2 Samuel 18
1 Then Dauid numbred the people that were with him, and set ouer them captaines of thousands and captaines of hundreths.
दावीद ने अपने साथियों की गिनती की, और इसमें उन्होंने हज़ारों और सैकड़ों के ऊपर प्रधान बना दिए.
2 And Dauid sent foorth the third part of the people vnder the hand of Ioab, and the thirde part vnder the hand of Abishai Ioabs brother the sonne of Zeruiah: and the other third part vnder the hand of Ittai the Gittite. and the King said vnto the people, I will go with you my selfe also.
तब उन्होंने सेना को तीन भागों में बांटकर एक तिहाई भाग योआब के नेतृत्व में, दूसरी तिहाई भाग ज़ेरुइयाह के पुत्र और योआब के भाई अबीशाई के नेतृत्व में और तीसरी तिहाई भाग गाथी इत्तई के नेतृत्व में भेज दिया. राजा ने सेना के सामने यह घोषित किया, “मैं स्वयं तुम्हारे साथ चलूंगा.”
3 But the people answered, Thou shalt not goe foorth: for if we flee away, they will not regarde vs, neither will they passe for vs, though halfe of vs were slaine: but thou art now worth ten thousande of vs: therefore nowe it is better that thou succour vs out of the citie.
मगर सैनिकों ने विरोध किया, “नहीं, आपका हमारे साथ जाना सही नहीं है. यदि हमें भागना ही पड़ जाए, तो उन्हें तो हमारी कोई परवाह नहीं है. यदि हम आधे मार दिये जाए तो भी अबशालोम के सैनिक परवाह नहीं करेंगे. मगर आपका महत्व हम जैसे दस हज़ार के बराबर है. तब इस स्थिति में ठीक यही है कि आप नगर में रहते हुए ही हमारा समर्थन करें.”
4 Then the King said vnto them, What seemeth you best, that I will doe. So the King stood by the gate side, and all the people came out by hundreths and by thousands.
यह सुन राजा ने उन्हें उत्तर दिया, “मैं वही करूंगा जो तुम्हारी दृष्टि में सही है.” तब राजा नगर फाटक के पास खड़े हो गए और सारी सेना सौ-सौ और हज़ार के समान समूहों में उनके पास से निकलते चले गए.
5 And the King commanded Ioab and Abishai, and Ittai, saying, Entreate the yong man Absalom gently for my sake. and all the people heard whe the King gaue al the captaines charge concerning Absalom.
राजा ने योआब, अबीशाई और इत्तई को आदेश दिया, “मेरे हित का ध्यान रखते हुए इस युवा अबशालोम के साथ दया दिखाना.” राजा द्वारा अबशालोम के विषय में सारे प्रधानों को दिए गए इस आदेश को सारी सेना ने भी सुना.
6 So the people went out into the fielde to meete Israel, and the battell was in the wood of Ephraim:
तब यह सेना इस्राएल से युद्ध करने मैदान में जा पहुंची, और यह युद्ध एफ्राईम के वन में छिड़ गया.
7 Where the people of Israel were slaine before the seruants of Dauid: so there was a great slaughter that day, euen of twentie thousande.
दावीद के सैनिकों ने इस्राएल की सेना को हरा दिया. उस दिन की मार बहुत ही भयानक थी जिसमें 20,000 सैनिक मारे गये.
8 For the battel was skattered ouer all the countrey: and the wood deuoured much more people that day, then did the sworde.
यह युद्ध पूरे देश में फैल गया था. तलवार की अपेक्षा वन के घनत्व ने ही अधिकतर सैनिकों के प्राण ले लिए.
9 Nowe Absalom met the seruants of Dauid, and Absalom rode vpon a mule, and the mule came vnder a great thicke oke: and his head caught holde of the oke, and he was taken vp betweene the heauen and the earth: and the mule that was vnder him went away.
संयोगवश, अबशालोम की भेंट दावीद के सैनिकों से हो गई. उस समय अबशालोम अपने खच्चर पर चढ़ा हुआ था. खच्चर एक विशालकाय बांज वृक्ष के नीचे से भागने लगा. परिणामस्वरूप, अबशालोम का सिर बांज वृक्ष की डालियों में मजबूती से जा फंसा. उसका खच्चर तो आगे बढ़ गया मगर वह स्वयं भूमि और आकाश के बीच लटका रह गया.
10 And one that sawe it, tolde Ioab, saying, Beholde, I sawe Absalom hanged in an oke.
किसी ने अबशालोम को इस स्थिति में देख लिया और जाकर योआब को इसकी सूचना दे दी, “सुनिए, मैंने अबशालोम को बांज वृक्ष से लटके हुए देखा है.”
11 Then Ioab saide vnto the man that tolde him, And hast thou in deede seene? why then diddest thou not there smite him to the grounde, and I woulde haue giuen thee ten shekels of siluer, and a girdle?
योआब ने उस व्यक्ति से कहा, “अच्छा! तुमने उसे सचमुच देखा है? तब तुमने उसे मारकर भूमि पर क्यों न गिरा दिया? इसके लिए मैं तुम्हें खुशी से दस चांदी के सिक्के और योद्धा का एक कमरबंध भी दे देता.”
12 Then the man saide vnto Ioab, Though I should receiue a thousande shekels of siluer in mine hande, yet woulde I not lay mine hande vpon the Kings sonne: for in our hearing the King charged thee, and Abishai, and Ittai, saying, Beware, least any touche the yong man Absalom.
मगर उस व्यक्ति ने योआब को उत्तर दिया, “यदि मेरे हाथ पर हज़ार चांदी के सिक्के भी रख दिए जाते, मेरा हाथ राजकुमार पर नहीं उठ सकता था; क्योंकि स्वयं हमने राजा को आपको, अबीशाई को और इत्तई को यह आदेश देते हुए सुन रखा है, ‘मेरे हित का ध्यान रखते हुए उस युवा अबशालोम को सुरक्षित रखना.’
13 If I had done it, it had bene the danger of my life: for nothing can be hid from the King: yea, thou thy selfe wouldest haue bin against me.
इसके अलावा यदि मैंने उसके प्राण लेकर राजा के प्रति विश्वासघात किया भी होता, तो आप तो मुझसे स्वयं को पूरी तरह अलग ही कर लेते, जबकि राजा से कुछ भी छिपा नहीं रह सकता.”
14 Then saide Ioab, I will not thus tary with thee. And he tooke three dartes in his hande, and thrust them through Absalom, while he was yet aliue in the middes of the oke.
इस पर योआब ने कहा, “व्यर्थ है तुम्हारे साथ समय नष्ट करना.” उन्होंने तीन भाले लिए और बांज वृक्ष में लटके हुए जीवित अबशालोम के हृदय में भोंक दिए.
15 And tenne seruants that bare Ioabs armour, compassed about and smote Absalom, and slewe him.
उसके बाद दस सैनिकों ने, जो योआब के हथियार उठानेवाले थे, अबशालोम को घेरकर उस पर वार कर उसे घात कर दिया.
16 Then Ioab blewe the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel: for Ioab helde backe the people.
यह होने के बाद योआब ने युद्ध समाप्ति की तुरही फूंकी, और सैनिक इस्राएल का पीछा करना छोड़ लौट आए, युद्ध समापन योआब का आदेश था.
17 And they tooke Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and layed a mightie great heape of stones vpon him: and all Israel fled euery one to his tent.
उन्होंने अबशालोम के शव को वन में एक गहरे गड्ढे में डालकर उसके ऊपर पत्थरों का बहुत विशाल ढेर लगा दिया. सभी इस्राएली सैनिक भाग गये, हर एक अपने-अपने तंबू में.
18 Nowe Absalom in his life time had taken and reared him vp a pillar, which is in the kings dale: for he saide, I haue no sonne to keepe my name in remembrance. and he called the pillar after his owne name, and it is called vnto this day, Absaloms place.
जब अबशालोम जीवित ही था, उसने राजा की घाटी नामक स्थान पर अपने लिए एक स्मारक खंभा बनवा दिया था. उसका विचार था, “मेरे नाम की याद स्थायी रखने के लिए, क्योंकि मेरे कोई पुत्र नहीं है.” इस स्मारक स्तंभ को उसने अपना ही नाम दिया. आज तक यह अबशालोम स्मारक के नाम से जाना जाता है.
19 Then said Ahimaaz the sonne of Zadok, I pray thee, let me runne, and beare the King tidings that the Lord hath deliuered him out of the hande of his enemies.
यह सब होने पर सादोक के पुत्र अहीमाज़ ने विचार किया, “मैं दौड़कर राजा को यह संदेश दूंगा कि याहवेह ने उन्हें उनके शत्रुओं के सामर्थ्य से छुड़ाया है.”
20 And Ioab said vnto him, Thou shalt not be the messenger to day, but thou shalt beare tidings another time, but to day thou shalt beare none: for the Kings sonne is dead.
मगर योआब ने उससे कहा, “आज तुम कोई भी संदेश नहीं ले जाओगे. तुम किसी दूसरे दिन संदेश ले जाना, लेकिन तुम्हें आज ऐसा नहीं करना चाहिए, क्योंकि यह राजकुमार की मृत्यु का समाचार है.”
21 Then said Ioab to Cushi, Goe, tel the king, what thou hast seene. And Cushi bowed himselfe vnto Ioab, and ran.
वहां कूश देश का एक निवासी था. योआब ने आदेश दिया, “तुमने जो कुछ देखा है, उसकी सूचना जाकर राजा को दे दो.” कूश देशवासी ने झुककर योआब का अभिवंदन किया और दौड़ पड़ा.
22 Then saide Ahimaaz the sonne of Zadok againe to Ioab, What, I pray thee, if I also runne after Cushi? And Ioab said, Wherefore now wilt thou runne, my sonne, seeing that thou hast no tidings to bring?
सादोक के पुत्र अहीमाज़ ने योआब से दोबारा विनती की, “कुछ भी हो, मुझे भी उस कूश देश निवासी के पीछे जाने दीजिए.” योआब ने उससे पूछा, “मेरे पुत्र, तुम क्यों जाना चाह रहे हो? इस समाचार को प्रेषित करने का तुम्हें कोई पुरस्कार तो मिलेगा नहीं.”
23 Yet what if I runne? Then he saide vnto him, Runne. So Ahimaaz ranne by the way of the plaine, and ouerwent Cushi.
“कुछ भी हो,” उसने उत्तर दिया, “मैं तो जाऊंगा.” तब योआब ने उसे उत्तर दिया, “जाओ!” तब अहीमाज़ दौड़ पड़ा और मैदान में से दौड़ता हुआ उस कूश देश निवासी से आगे निकल गया.
24 Now Dauid sate betweene the two gates. And the watchman went to the top of the gate vpon the wall, and lift vp his eyes, and sawe, and beholde, a man came running alone.
दावीद दो द्वारों के मध्य बैठे हुए थे. प्रहरी दीवार से चढ़कर द्वार पर बने छत पर पहुंच गया. जब उसने दृष्टि की तो उसे एक अकेला व्यक्ति दौड़ता हुआ नजर आया.
25 And the watchman cryed, and tolde ye king. And the King said, If he be alone, he bringeth tidings. And he came apace, and drew neere.
प्रहरी ने पुकारते हुए राजा को इसकी सूचना दी. राजा ने उससे कहा, “यदि वह अकेला व्यक्ति है तो उसके मुख से आनंददायक संदेश ही सुना जाएगा.” वह व्यक्ति निकट-निकट आता गया.
26 And the watchman saw another man running, and the watchman called vnto the porter, and said, Behold, another man runneth alone. And the King said, He also bringeth tidings.
तब प्रहरी ने एक और व्यक्ति को दौड़ते हुए आते देखा. प्रहरी ने पुकारते हुए द्वारपाल को सूचित किया, “देखो, देखो, एक और व्यक्ति अकेला दौड़ा आ रहा है!” राजा कहने लगा, “वह भी आनंददायक संदेश ही ला रहा है.”
27 And the watchman said, Me thinketh the running of the formost is like the running of Ahimaaz the sonne of Zadok. Then the King said, He is a good man, and commeth with good tidings.
प्रहरी ने उन्हें बताया, “मेरे विचार से प्रथम व्यक्ति के दौड़ने के ढंग से ऐसा लग रहा है कि वह सादोक का पुत्र अहीमाज़ है.” यह सुन राजा ने कहा, “वह एक अच्छा व्यक्ति है. वह अवश्य ही शुभ संदेश ला रहा है.”
28 And Ahimaaz called, and sayde vnto the King, Peace be with thee: and he fell downe to the earth vpon his face before the King, and saide, Blessed be the Lord thy God, who hath shut vp the men that lift vp their handes against my lorde the King.
अहीमाज़ ने पुकारकर राजा से कहा, “सब कुछ कुशल है.” तब वह राजा के समक्ष भूमि पर दंडवत हो गया, उसने आगे कहा, “स्तुत्य हैं याहवेह, आपके परमेश्वर जिन्होंने महाराज मेरे स्वामी के शत्रुओं को पराजित कर दिया है!”
29 And the King saide, Is the yong man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Ioab sent the Kings seruant, and me thy seruant, I sawe a great tumult, but I knewe not what.
राजा ने उससे पूछा, “क्या युवा अबशालोम सकुशल है?” अहीमाज़ ने उत्तर दिया, “जब योआब ने आपके सेवक को महाराज के लिए संदेश के साथ प्रेषित किया था, तब मैंने वहां बड़ी अव्यवस्था देखी, मगर मुझे यह ज्ञात नहीं कि वह सब क्या था.”
30 And the King said vnto him, Turne aside, and stand here. so he turned aside and stoode still.
तब राजा ने उसे आदेश दिया, “आकर यहां खड़े रहो.” तब वह जाकर वहां खड़ा हो गया.
31 And beholde, Cushi came, and Cushi saide, Tidings, my lorde the King: for the Lord hath deliuered thee this day out of the hande of all that rose against thee.
तब वह कूश देशवासी भी वहां आ पहुंचा. उसने सूचना दी, “महाराज, मेरे स्वामी के लिए खुशखबरी है! आज याहवेह ने आपको विद्रोहियों पर जयंत किया है.”
32 Then the King saide vnto Cushi, Is the yong man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, The enemies of my lorde the King, and all that rise against thee to doe thee hurt, be as that yong man is.
यह सुनने के बाद राजा ने कूश देशवासी से प्रश्न किया, “युवा अबशालोम तो सकुशल है न?” कूशवासी ने उत्तर दिया, “महाराज मेरे स्वामी के शत्रुओं की और उन सभी की नियति, जो आपके हानि के कटिबद्ध हो जाते हैं, वही हो, जो उस युवा की हुई है.”
33 And the King was mooued, and went vp to the chamber ouer the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my sonne Absalom, my sonne, my sonne Absalom: woulde God I had dyed for thee, O Absalom, my sonne, my sonne.
भावना से अभिभूत राजा नगर द्वार के ऊपर बने हुए कक्ष में जाकर शोक करने लगे. जब वह वहां जा रहे थे, उनके द्वारा उच्चारे गए ये शब्द सुने गए, “मेरे पुत्र अबशालोम, मेरे पुत्र, मेरे पुत्र अबशालोम! उत्तम तो यह होता, तुम्हारे स्थान पर मेरी ही मृत्यु हो जाती, अबशालोम, मेरे पुत्र—मेरे पुत्र!”
