2 Samuel 17
1 Moreouer Ahithophel said to Absalom, Let me chuse out now twelue thousand men, and I will vp and follow after Dauid this night,
A-hi-tô-phe lại nói cùng Aùp-sa-lôm rằng: Xin cho phép tôi chọn mười hai ngàn quân. Tôi sẽ kéo ra đuổi theo Đa-vít nội đêm nay.
2 And I will come vpon him: for he is wearie, and weake handed: so I will feare him, and all the people that are with him, shall flee, and I will smite the King onely,
Tôi sẽ xông vào người trong lúc người mệt mỏi, ngã lòng, và làm cho người kinh khiếp; cả dân chúng đi theo người sẽ chạy trốn, và tôi sẽ giết một mình vua.
3 And I will bring againe all the people vnto thee, and when all shall returne, (the man whome thou seekest being slaine) all the people shalbe in peace.
Như vậy, tôi sẽ dẫn cả dân chúng trở về cùng ông; vì sự chết của một mình người mà ông vẫn đuổi theo đó, sẽ khiến cho mọi người trở về; vậy, cả dân chúng sẽ được bình yên.
4 And the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the Elders of Israel.
Aùp-sa-lôm và các trưởng lão Y-sơ-ra-ên đều nhận lời ấy là phải.
5 Then said Absalom, Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let vs heare likewise what he sayth.
Song Aùp-sa-lôm nói rằng: Hãy vời Hu-sai, người Aït-kít đến, để chúng ta cũng nghe lời người bàn nữa.
6 So when Hushai came to Absalom, Absalom spake vnto him, saying, Ahithophel hath spoken thus: shall we doe after his saying, or no? tell thou.
Hu-sai đã vào trong đền Aùp-sa-lôm, thì Aùp-sa-lôm nói cùng người rằng: A-hi-tô-phe đã nói lời như vậy; chúng ta có nên làm theo lời người đã bàn hay chăng?
7 Hushai then answered vnto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath giuen, is not good at this time.
Hu-sai bèn đáp cùng Aùp-sa-lôm rằng: Lần nầy, lời bàn của A-hi-tô-phe không được tốt lành.
8 For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father, and his men, that they be strong men, and are chafed in minde as a beare robbed of her whelps in the fielde: also thy father is a valiant warrier, and will not lodge with the people.
Người tiếp rằng: Vua đã biết vua cha và các người của vua cha, là những dõng sĩ, có lòng nóng giận khác nào gấu cái trên rừng bị người ta bắt con nó. Lại nữa, vua cha, là một người thạo việc chiến trận, chắc chẳng ở đêm cùng đạo binh đâu.
9 Behold, he is hid now in some caue, or in some place: and though some of them be ouerthrowen at the first, yet the people shall heare, and say, The people that follow Absalom, be ouerthrowen.
Quả lúc nầy người ẩn mình trong một hang hố nào hay là trong chỗ nào khác. Nếu khởi tiên, chúng ta bị thua, hết thảy những kẻ nghe sẽ nói rằng: Phe của Aùp-sa-lôm đã bị thua.
10 Then he also that is valiant whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall shrinke and faint: for all Israel knoweth, that thy father is valiant, and they which be with him, stout men.
Bây giờ, kẻ mạnh bạo hơn hết, dầu có lòng như sư tử, cũng phải nát gan; vì cả Y-sơ-ra-ên biết rằng vua cha là một tay anh hùng, và những kẻ theo người đều là can đảm.
11 Therefore my counsell is, that all Israel be gathered vnto thee, from Dan euen to Beer-sheba as the sand of the sea in nomber, and that thou goe to battell in thine owne person.
Nên tôi bàn rằng thà hết thảy dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, từ Đan cho đến Bê-e-Sê-ba, hiệp lại chung quanh ông, đông như cát trên bờ biển, thì hơn. Oâng sẽ thân hành ra trận.
12 So shall we come vpon him in some place, where we shall finde him, and we will vpon him as the dewe falleth on the ground: and of all the men that are with him, wee will not leaue him one.
Vô luận người ở chỗ nào, chúng ta sẽ xông đến người, đáp trên người như sương sa trên đất; rồi người và kẻ theo người cũng không thể thoát khỏi được.
13 Moreouer if he be gotten into a citie, then shall all the men of Israel bring ropes to that citie, and we will draw it into the riuer, vntill there be not one small stone founde there.
Nếu người ẩn mình trong thành nào, cả Y-sơ-ra-ên tất sẽ lấy dây vòng chung quanh thành đó, rồi kéo thành đó xuống đáy khe, đến đỗi người ta không thấy một cục đá nào còn lại.
14 Then Absalom and all the men of Israel sayde, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better, then the counsell of Ahithophel: for the Lord had determined to destroy the good counsell of Ahithophel, that the Lord might bring euill vpon Absalom.
Bấy giờ, Aùp-sa-lôm và cả dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đều nói rằng: Mưu của Hu-sai, người Aït-kít, hay hơn mưu của A-hi-tô-phe. Vả, Đức Giê-hô-va đã định làm bại mưu khôn ngoan của A-hi-tô-phe, hầu giáng sự tai họa trên Aùp-sa-lôn vậy.
15 Then said Hushai vnto Zadok and to Abiathar the Priests, Of this and that maner did Ahithophel and the Elders of Israel counsell Absalom: and thus and thus haue I counseled.
Bấy giờ, Hu-sai nói cùng hai thầy tế lễ Xa-đốc và A-bia-tha, rằng: A-hi-tô-phe có dâng mưu nọ mưu kia cho Aùp-sa-lôm, và cho các trưởng lão Y-sơ-ra-ên, nhưng ta lại dâng mưu khác nầy.
16 Now therefore sende quickely, and shewe Dauid, saying, Tarie not this night in the fieldes of the wildernesse, but rather get thee ouer, lest the King be deuoured and all the people that are with him.
Vậy bây giờ, hãy mau mau báo tin cho Đa-vít mà rằng: Chớ ở đêm ngoài đồng bằng của sa mạc; hãy đi tới xa hơn, kẻo vua và các người đi theo phải bị tai vạ chăng.
17 Now Ionathan and Ahimaaz abode by En-rogel: (for they might not be seene to come into the citie) and a maid went, and tolde them, and they went and shewed King Dauid.
Giô-na-than và A-hi-mát đứng tại Eân-Rô-ghên, không dám vào trong thành, e người ta thấy; một con đòi đến báo tin cho hai người phải báo lại cho vua Đa-vít.
18 Neuerthelesse a yong man sawe them, and tolde it to Absalom. therefore they both departed quickely, and came to a mans house in Bahurim, who had a well in his court, into the which they went downe.
Nhưng có một người trai trẻ thấy họ, bèn đến thuật cho Aùp-sa-lôm hay. Hai người đã vội vã cùng đi và đến nhà của một người ở Ba-hu-rim; trong sân người có một cái giếng, hai người bèn xuống đó.
19 And the wife tooke and spred a couering ouer the welles mouth, and spred ground corne thereon, that the thing should not be knowen.
Vợ của người nầy lấy một cái mền trải trên miệng giếng, rồi trên đó người rải phơi lúa mạch, cho người ta không nghi ngờ chi hết.
20 And when Absaloms seruants came to the wife into the house, they said, Where is Ahimaaz and Ionathan? And the woman answered them, They be gone ouer the brooke of water. And when they had sought them, and could not finde them, they returned to Ierusalem.
Các tôi tớ của Aùp-sa-lôm đến nhà người nữ nầy mà hỏi rằng: A-hi-mát và Giô-na-than ở đâu? Người nữ đáp rằng: Hai người đã qua suối rồi. Vậy, họ đi theo tìm, song không gặp, bèn trở về Giê-ru-sa-lem.
21 And assoone as they were departed, the other came out of the well, and went and tolde King Dauid, and sayde vnto him, Vp, and get you quickely ouer the water: for such counsell hath Ahithophel giuen against you.
Sau khi chúng đi rồi, A-hi-mát và Giô-na-than đi lên khỏi giếng, rồi đi báo tin nầy cho Đa-vít, rằng: Hãy chổi dậy, mau qua sông, vì A-hi-tô-phe đã bàn định mưu nầy nghịch cùng vua.
22 Then Dauid arose, and all the people that were with him, and they went ouer Iorden vntil the dawning of the day, so that there lacked not one of them, that was not come ouer Iorden.
Đa-vít bèn chổi dậy, với cả dân theo người, rồi đi qua sông Giô-đanh. Vừa rạng đông, chẳng còn sót một người nào chưa qua sông.
23 Nowe when Ahithophel sawe that his counsell was not followed, he sadled his asse, and arose, and he went home vnto his citie, and put his houshold in order, and hanged him selfe, and dyed, and was buryed in his fathers graue.
A-hi-tô-phe thấy người ta không theo mưu của mình, bèn thắng lừa, trở về thành mình, và vào trong nhà người. Sau khi người đã sắp đặt việc mình rồi, thì tự thắt cổ mà chết. Người ta chôn người trong mộ của cha người.
24 Then Dauid came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed ouer Iorden, he, and all the men of Israel with him.
Đang lúc Đa-vít đi đến Ma-ha-na-im, thì Aùp-sa-lôm đi ngang qua sông Giô-đanh, có cả đạo quân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi theo.
25 And Absalom made Amasa captaine of the hoste in the stead of Ioab: which Amasa was a mans sonne named Ithra an Israelite, that went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah Ioabs mother.
Aùp-sa-lôm đã lập A-ma-sa làm tổng binh thế cho Giô-áp. Vả, A-ma-sa là con trai của một người Y-sơ-ra-ên, tên là Gít-ra, xưa đã ăn ở cùng A-bi-ganh, là con gái của Na-hách, chị của Xê-ru-gia, mẹ của Giô-áp.
26 So Israel and Absalom pitched in the land of Gilead.
Y-sơ-ra-ên đóng trại với Aùp-sa-lôm tại trong xứ Ga-la-át.
27 And when Dauid was come to Mahanaim, Shobi the sonne of Nahash out of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the sonne of Ammiel out of Lo-debar, and Barzelai the Gileadite out of Rogel
Khi Đa-vít đã đến Ma-ha-na-im, thì Sô-bi, con trai Na-hách, quê ở Ráp-ba, là thành của dân Am-môn, với Ma-ki, con trai A-mi-ên ở thành Lô-đê-ba, và Bát-xi-lai, người Ga-la-át, ở thành Rô-ghê-lim, đều đem cho Đa-vít và cho cả dân theo người
28 Brought beds, and basens, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and floure, and parched corne, and beanes, and lentiles, and parched corne.
những giường, chén, chậu đất, lúa mì, lúa mạch, bột mì, hột rang, đậu, phạn đậu, và các thứ hột rang khác,
29 And they brought hony, and butter, and sheepe, and cheese of kine for Dauid and for the people that were with him, to eate: for they said, The people is hungry, and wearie, and thirstie in the wildernesse.
mật ong, mỡ sữa, con chiên, và bánh sữa bò, đặng cho Đa-vít và đạo quân người ăn; vì chúng nói rằng: Dân sự đã đói khát và mệt nhọc trong đồng vắng.
