2 Samuel 11
1 And when the yeere was expired in the time when Kinges goe forth to battell, Dauid sent Ioab, and his seruantes with him, and all Israel, who destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah: but Dauid remayned in Ierusalem.
Le cours de l'année ramena le temps où les rois se mettent en campagne, et David fit partir Joab, ses serviteurs et tout Israël; ils ravagèrent la contrée des fils d'Ammon, et ils assiégèrent Rhabbath; cependant, David était resté à Jérusalem.
2 And when it was euening tide, Dauid arose out of his bed, and walked vpon the roofe of the Kings palace: and from the roofe he sawe a woman washing her selfe: and the woman was very beautifull to looke vpon.
Et ceci advint: sur le soir, David se leva de sa couche, et il se promena sur la plate-forme de la maison royale; et, de sa plate-forme, il vit une femme qui se baignait; or, la femme était extrêmement belle de visage.
3 And Dauid sent and inquired what woman it was: and one sayde, Is not this Bath-sheba the daughter of Eliam, wife to Vriah the Hittite?
Et David envoya, et il s'informa de la femme, et on lui dit: N'est-ce point Bersabée, fille d'Eliab, femme d'Urie l'Hettéen?
4 Then Dauid sent messengers, and tooke her away: and she came vnto him and he lay with her: (now she was purified from her vncleannes) and she returned vnto her house.
Aussitôt, David, dépêchant des messagers, la fit prendre, s'approcha d'elle, et dormit avec elle; puis, lorsqu'elle se fut purifiée de son impureté, elle retourna en sa maison.
5 And the woman conceiued: therefore shee sent and tolde Dauid, and sayd, I am with childe.
La femme conçut; elle le fit savoir à David, et elle dit: Je suis enceinte.
6 Then Dauid sent to Ioab, saying, Send me Vriah the Hittite. And Ioab sent Vriah to Dauid.
Et David fit dire à Joab: Envoie près de moi Urie l'Hettéen, et Joab envoya Urie près de David.
7 And when Vriah came vnto him, Dauid demanded him how Ioab did, and howe the people fared, and how the warre prospered.
Urie arriva, et il entra chez le roi, et David lui demanda comment allaient Joab, et l'armée, et la guerre.
8 Afterward Dauid said to Vriah, Go downe to thine house, and wash thy feete. So Vriah departed out of the Kings palace, and the king sent a present after him.
Et David dit à Urie: Va à ta maison, et lave-toi les pieds. Urie sortit donc de la demeure royale, et, derrière lui, on porta un mets de la table du roi.
9 But Vriah slept at the doore of the Kings palace with all the seruants of his lord, and went not downe to his house.
Mais Urie dormit devant la porte du roi, parmi les serviteurs de son maître, et il n'alla pas jusqu'à sa maison.
10 Then they tolde Dauid, saying, Vriah went not downe to his house: and Dauid saide vnto Vriah, Commest thou not from thy iourney? why didst thou not go downe to thine house?
On l'alla dire à David; il sut qu'Urie n'était pas allé jusqu'à sa maison, et David dit à Urie: Ne viens-tu pas de faire un voyage? Pourquoi n'es-tu pas entré en ta demeure?
11 Then Vriah answered Dauid, The Arke and Israel, and Iudah dwell in tents: and my lord Ioab and the seruants of my lord abide in the open fields: shall I then go into mine house to eate and drinke, and lie with my wife? by thy life, and by the life of thy soule, I will not do this thing.
Et Urie répondit à David: L'arche, Israël et Juda demeurent sous des tentes; mon maître Joab et les serviteurs de mon maître sont campés eu plein air, et moi j'entrerais en ma maison pour manger et boire, et dormir avec ma femme! Comment ferais-je pareille chose? Vive ton âme! je ne la ferai jamais.
12 Then Dauid sayd vnto Vriah, Tary yet this day, and to morow I will send thee away. So Vriah abode in Ierusalem that day, and the morowe.
Et David dit à Urie: Demeure encore avec nous aujourd'hui; demain, je te congédierai. Urie passa donc à Jérusalem cette journée là et le lendemain.
13 Then Dauid called him, and hee did eate and drinke before him, and he made him drunke: and at euen he went out to lie on his couch with the seruants of his Lord, but went not downe to his house.
Ensuite, David l'invita; il mangea, il but, il s'enivra, et il sortit sur le soir pour dormir où il s'était déjà couché, parmi les serviteurs de son maître; mais il n'entra point en sa maison.
14 And on the morowe Dauid wrote a letter to Ioab, and sent it by the hand of Vriah.
Le jour parut, et David écrivit une lettre à Joab, et il la remit à Urie.
15 And he wrote thus in the letter, Put ye Vriah in the forefront of the strength of the battell, and recule ye backe from him, that he may be smitten, and die.
Voici ce qu'en sa lettre il disait: Conduis Urie au fort du péril, et laisse-le là seul; qu'il soit frappé et qu'il meure.
16 So when Ioab besieged the citie, he assigned Vriah vnto a place, where he knewe that strong men were.
Et, pendant que Joab plaçait des gardes autour de la ville, il donna à Urie un poste où il savait qu'il se trouvait des hommes vaillants.
17 And the men of the citie came out, and fought with Ioab: and there fell of the people of the seruants of Dauid, and Vriah the Hittite also dyed.
Ces hommes, en effet, firent une sortie; ils combattirent Joab; plusieurs hommes de l'armée, serviteurs de David, tombèrent, et Urie l'Hettéen fut au nombre des morts.
18 Then Ioab sent and tolde Dauid all the things concerning the warre,
Et Joab envoya rapporter à David tout ce qui venait de se passer dans ce combat.
19 And he charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an ende of telling all the matters of the warre vnto the King,
Et il donna ses instructions au messager, disant: Lorsque tu auras fini de rapporter à David tout ce qui s'est passé dans le combat,
20 And if the kings anger arise, so that he say vnto thee, Wherefore approched ye vnto the citie to fight? knewe ye not that they would hurle from the wall?
Peut-être le roi se mettra-t-il en colère, et te dira-t-il: Pourquoi donc combattre si près de la ville? Ne saviez-vous pas que du haut des remparts on vous atteindrait?
21 Who smote Abimelech sonne of Ierubesheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a milstone vpon him from the wall, and he died in Thebez? why went you nie the wall? Then say thou, Thy seruant Vriah the Hittite is also dead.
Qui donc a renversé Abimélech, fils de Jérobaal, fils de Ner? N'est-ce pas une femme qui lui a lancé, de la muraille, un éclat de meule dont il est mort à Thamasi? Pourquoi donc vous êtes-vous approchés du rempart? Alors, tu répondras: Urie l'Hettéen, ton serviteur, est du nombre des morts.
22 So the messenger went, and came and shewed Dauid all that Ioab had sent him for.
Le messager de Joab se rendit à Jérusalem, et, selon l'ordre de Joab, il fit au roi le rapport de tout ce qui était arrivé à la guerre.
23 And the messenger said vnto Dauid, Certainely the men preuailed against vs, and came out vnto vs into the field, but we pursued them vnto the entring of the gate.
Le messager répondit à David: Parce que ceux de la ville ont prévalu sur nous; ils ont fait une sortie dans la campagne; puis, nous les avons repoussés jusqu'aux portes de la ville.
24 But the shooters shot from ye wall against thy seruants, and some of the Kings seruants be dead: and thy seruant Vriah the Hittite is also dead.
Alors, des archers ont tiré du haut des remparts sur tes serviteurs; plusieurs des serviteurs du roi ont péri; ton serviteur Urie l'Hettéen est du nombre des morts.
25 Then Dauid said vnto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say vnto Ioab, Let not this thing trouble thee: for the sworde deuoureth one as well as another: make thy battell more strong against the citie and destroy it, and encourage thou him.
Et David dit au messager: Voici ce que tu diras à Joab: Ne t'afflige pas de cet événement; le glaive dévore tantôt celui-ci, tantôt celui-là; fortifie tes postes autour de la ville, enlève-la, et t'en rends maître.
26 And when the wife of Vriah heard that her husband Vriah was dead, she mourned for her husband.
Et la femme d'Urie apprit que son mari était mort, et elle pleura sur son mari.
27 So when the mourning was past, Dauid sent and tooke her into his house, and shee became his wife, and bare him a sonne: but ye thing that Dauid had done, displeased the Lord.
Le temps du deuil écoulé, David envoya près d'elle, la fit venir en sa demeure, et la prit pour femme; elle lui enfanta un fils. Mais l'action que David avait commise était mauvaise aux yeux du Seigneur.
