2 Kings 9
1 Then Elisha the Prophet called one of ye children of the Prophets, and sayde vnto him, Gird thy loynes and take this boxe of oyle in thine hand and get thee to Ramoth Gilead.
Or, Elisée avait mandé un des jeunes prophètes pour lui dire: "Ceins tes reins, prends cette fiole d’huile en ta main et rends-toi à Ramot-Galaad.
2 And when thou commest thither, looke where is Iehu ye sonne of Iehoshaphat, the sonne of Nimshi, and go, and make him arise vp from among his brethren, and leade him to a secret chamber.
Arrivé à destination, enquiers-toi de Jéhu, fils de Josaphat, fils de Nimchi. Une fois admis en sa présence, tu l’engageras à se lever du milieu de ses frères d’armes et l’introduiras dans une chambre retirée.
3 Then take the boxe of oyle and powre it on his head, and say, Thus sayth the Lord, I haue anointed thee for King ouer Israel. then open the doore, and flee without any tarying.
Prends alors la fiole d’huile, répands-la sur sa tête en disant: Ainsi a parlé l’Eternel: Je te sacre roi d’Israël. Puis ouvre la porte et enfuis-toi sans retard."
4 So the seruat of ye Prophet gate him to Ramoth Gilead.
Le jeune homme, le jeune prophète, alla à Ramot-Galaad.
5 And when he came in, behold, the captaines of the armie were sitting. And he sayde, I haue a message to thee, O captaine. And Iehu sayd, Vnto which of all vs? And he answered, To thee, O captaine.
Dès son arrivée, il trouva les chefs de l’armée siégeant ensemble, et il dit: "J’Ai une communication pour toi, ô commandant. Pour qui d’entre nous tous?" demanda Jéhu. "Pour toi, commandant," répondit-il.
6 And he arose, and went into the house, and he powred the oyle on his head and sayde vnto him, Thus sayth the Lord God of Israel, I haue anointed thee for King ouer the people of the Lord, euen ouer Israel.
Jéhu se leva, entra dans la chambre, et le prophète lui versa l’huile sur la tête en lui disant: "Ainsi a parlé l’Eternel, le Dieu d’Israël: Je te sacre roi du peuple de l’Eternel, d’Israël.
7 And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may auenge the blood of my seruants the Prophets, and the blood of al the seruants of the Lord of the hand of Iezebel.
Tu frapperas la maison de ton maître Achab, et ainsi je vengerai sur Jézabel le sang de mes serviteurs les prophètes et le sang de tous les serviteurs du Seigneur.
8 For the whole house of Ahab shalbe destroied: and I will cut off from Ahab, him that maketh water against the wall, as well him that is shut vp, as him that is left in Israel.
Toute la maison d’Achab doit périr: j’exterminerai la plus vile créature appartenant à Achab, tout ce qu’il possède de précieux et d’infime en Israël.
9 And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the sonne of Ahiiah.
Je ferai ainsi de la maison d’Achab ce que j’ai fait de la maison de Jéroboam, fils de Nebat, et de la maison de Baasa, fils d’Ahiyya.
10 And the dogges shall eate Iezebel in the fielde of Izreel, and there shalbe none to burie her. And he opened the doore, and fled.
Quant à Jézabel, les chiens la dévoreront sur le domaine de Jezreël, et personne ne l’ensevelira." Puis il ouvrit la porte et s’enfuit.
11 Then Iehu came out to the seruants of his lord. And one sayd vnto him, Is all well? wherefore came this mad fellowe to thee? And hee sayde vnto them, Ye knowe the man, and what his talke was.
Jéhu sortit pour rejoindre les serviteurs de son maître. On lui demanda: "Tout est-il bien? Pourquoi cet exalté est-il venu te trouver?" Il leur répondit: "Vous connaissez bien l’homme et ses discours.
12 And they sayde, It is false, tell vs it nowe. Then he sayd, Thus and thus spake he to me, saying, Thus saieth the Lord, I haue anointed thee for King ouer Israel.
—C’Est de la dissimulation, répliquèrent-ils; de grâce, raconte-nous tout." Il repartit: "C’Est de telle et telle façon qu’il m’a parlé; il m’a dit: Ainsi a parlé l’Eternel: Je te sacre roi d’Israël."
13 Then they made haste, and tooke euerie man his garment, and put it vnder him on the top of the staires, and blewe the trumpet, saying, Iehu is King.
Aussitôt ils s’empressèrent tous de prendre leurs manteaux, les étendirent sous lui au haut de l’escalier, et sonnèrent du cor en s’écriant: "Jéhu est roi!"
14 So Iehu ye sonne of Iehoshaphat the sonne of Nimshi conspired against Ioram: (Now Ioram kept Ramoth Gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael King of Aram.
C’Est de la sorte que Jéhu, fils de Josaphat, fils de Nimchi, complota contre Joram. Celui-ci avait été en observation à Ramot-Galaad, avec tout Israël, en face de Hazaël, roi de Syrie.
15 And King Ioram returned to bee healed in Izreel of the woundes, which the Aramites had giuen him, when hee fought with Hazael King of Aram) and Iehu sayde, If it be your mindes, let no man depart and escape out of the citie, to goe and tell in Izreel.
Mais le roi Joram s’en était retourné pour attendre à Jezreël la guérison des blessures que lui avaient faites les Syriens au cours de sa campagne contre Hazaël, roi de Syrie. Jéhu dit: "Si vous le voulez bien, qu’aucun transfuge ne sorte de la ville pour porter des nouvelles à Jezreël."
16 So Iehu gate vp into a charet, and went to Izreel: for Ioram lay there, and Ahaziah King of Iudah was come downe to see Ioram.
Jehu monta sur son char et se rendit à Jezreël, où Joram était alité. Achazia, roi de Juda, était descendu pour rendre visite à Joram.
17 And the watchman that stoode in the towre in Izreel spyed the companie of Iehu as hee came, and sayd, I see a companie. And Iehoram said, Take a horseman and send to meete them, that hee may say, Is it peace?
Or, le gardien qui se tenait sur la tour de Jezreël remarqua la troupe de Jéhu qui avançait, et il dit: "J’Aperçois une troupe." Joram répliqua: "Prends un cavalier, dépêche-le au-devant d’eux pour qu’il demande: Est-ce la paix?"
18 So there went one on horseback to meete him, and sayde, Thus sayth the King, Is it peace? And Iehu sayd, What hast thou to do with peace? Turne behinde me. And the watchman tolde, saying, The messenger came to them, but he commeth not againe.
Le cavalier se rendit au-devant de Jéhu et dit: "Voici ce que demande le roi: Est-ce la paix?" Jéhu répondit: "Quoi de commun entre toi et la paix? Passe derrière moi." La sentinelle en fit part en disant: "Le messager est arrivé jusqu’à eux, mais n’est point revenu."
19 Then hee sent out another on horsebacke, which came to them, and sayde, Thus sayth the King, Is it peace? And Iehu answered, What hast thou to doe with peace? turne behinde me.
Il envoya un second cavalier, qui, arrivé auprès d’eux, dit: Voici ce que demande le roi: Est-ce la paix?" Jéhu répondit: "Quoi de commun entre toi et la paix? Passe derrière moi."
20 And the watchman tolde, saying, He came to them also, but commeth not againe, and the marching is like the marching of Iehu the sonne of Nimshi: for he marcheth furiously.
La sentinelle en fit part en ces termes: "Il est arrivé jusqu’à eux et n’est point revenu. Or, le train ressemble au train de Jéhu, fils de Nimchi; car il dirige d’une manière désordonnée."
21 Then Iehoram sayd, Make ready: and his charet was made ready. And Iehoram King of Israel and Ahaziah King of Iudah went out eyther of them in his charet against Iehu, and met him in the fielde of Naboth the Izreelite.
Joram dit: "Attelle!" On attela son char, et Joram, roi d’Israël, Achazia, roi de Juda, chacun sur son char, sortirent à la rencontre de Jéhu. Ils le joignirent près du domaine de Nabot, le Jezreélite.
22 And when Iehoram sawe Iehu, he sayde, Is it peace, Iehu? And he answered, What peace? whiles the whoredomes of thy mother Iezebel, and her witchcraftes are yet in great nomber?
Dès que Joram aperçut Jéhu, il dit: "Est-ce la paix, Jéhu?" Peut-il être question de paix, fut la réponse, tant que durent les débordements de ta mère Jézabel et ses nombreux sortilèges?"
23 Then Iehoram turned his hand, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, O Ahaziah, there is treason.
Joram tourna bride et prit la fuite, en disant à Achazia: "Trahison, Achazia!"
24 But Iehu tooke a bowe in his hande, and smote Iehoram betweene the shoulders, that the arowe went through his heart: and he fell downe in his charet.
Jéhu saisit l’arc de sa main, et la flèche atteignit Joram entre les épaules, de façon à transpercer son cœur: il s’affaissa dans son char.
25 Then said Iehu to Bidkar a captaine, Take, and cast him in some place of the fielde of Naboth the Izreelite: for I remember that when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, the Lord layed this burden vpon him.
Jéhu dit à Bidkar, son officier: "Enlève son corps et jette-le à terre dans le champ de Nabot, le Jezreélite; car je me souviens avec toi du jour où nous chevauchions de concert à la suite d’Achab, son père, alors que l’Eternel a émis contre lui cette prédiction:
26 Surely I haue seene yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sonnes, saide the Lord, and I will render it thee in this fielde, saith the Lord: nowe therefore take and cast him in the fielde, according to the word of the Lord.
A coup sûr, j’ai remarqué hier le sang de Nabot et le sang de ses enfants (dit l’Eternel); je t’en paierai le prix dans ce champ même (dit l’Eternel); enlève-le donc et jette-le dans ce champ, conformément à la parole du Seigneur."
27 But when Ahaziah the King of Iudah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house: And Iehu pursued after him, and sayd, Smite him also in the charet: and they smote him in the going vp to Gur, which is by Ibleam. And hee fled to Megiddo, and there dyed.
A cette vue, Achazia, roi de Juda, se mit à fuir dans la direction de la maison du parc; Jéhu se lança à sa poursuite et dit: "Lui aussi, frappez-le!" Il fut atteint dans son char, sur la montée de Gour du côté de Yibleam. Il se réfugia à Meghiddo et y mourut.
28 And his seruants caried him in a charet to Ierusalem, and buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers in the citie of Dauid.
Ses serviteurs le transportèrent à Jérusalem et l’ensevelirent dans son sépulcre, auprès de ses aïeux, dans la Cité de David.
29 And in the eleuenth yere of Ioram the sonne of Ahab, began Ahaziah to reigne ouer Iudah.
(C’Était dans la onzième année de Joram, fils d’Achab, qu’Achazia avait commencé à régner sur Juda.)
30 And when Iehu was come to Izreel, Iezebel heard of it, and painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a windowe.
Puis Jéhu entra à Jezreël. Or, Jézabel avait tout appris: elle s’enduisit les yeux de fard, se para la tête et regarda par la fenêtre.
31 And as Iehu entred at the gate, shee sayde, Had Zimri peace, which slewe his master?
Jéhu franchissant la porte, elle s’écria: "Est-ce la paix, Zimri, assassin de ton maître?"
32 And he lift vp his eyes to the windowe, and sayd, Who is on my side, who? Then two or three of her Eunuches looked vnto him.
Il leva les regards vers la fenêtre: "Qui est avec moi, qui?" dit-il. Deux ou trois officiers tournèrent les yeux vers lui,
33 And he sayde, Cast her downe: and they cast her downe, and hee sprinkled of her blood vpon the wall, and vpon the horses, and he trode her vnder foote.
et il leur dit: "Précipitez-la!" Ils la précipitèrent. Son sang rejaillit sur le mur et sur les chevaux, et il la foula aux pieds.
34 And when he was come in, he did eate and drinke, and sayde, Visite now yonder cursed woman, and burie her: for she is a Kings daughter.
Il pénétra dans la ville, mangea et but; puis il dit: "Voyez donc après cette maudite et ensevelissez-la, puisqu’elle est fille de roi.
35 And they went to burie her, but they foud no more of her, then the skull and the feete, and the palmes of her handes.
Ils allèrent pour l’ensevelir, mais ne trouvèrent plus d’elle que le crâne, les pieds et les paumes des mains.
36 Wherefore they came agayne and tolde him. And he said, This is the worde of the Lord, which he spake by his seruant Eliiah the Tishbite, saying, In the fielde of Izreel shall ye dogs eate the flesh of Iezebel.
Ils revinrent lui en faire part. Alors il s’écria: "Ainsi s’accomplit cette parole de l’Eternel, énoncée par la bouche de son serviteur, Elie le Tisbite: Sur le domaine de Jezreël, les chiens dévoreront la chair de Jézabel,
37 And the carkeis of Iezebel shalbe as doung vpon the ground in the field of Izreel, so that none shall say, This is Iezebel.
et le cadavre de Jézabel sera étendu sur le domaine de Jezreël, pareil au fumier qui couvre les champs, de telle sorte qu’on ne puisse pas dire: C’Est là Jézabel!"
