2 Kings 4

1 And one of the wiues of the sonnes of the Prophets cryed vnto Elisha, saying, Thy seruant mine husband is dead, and thou knowest, that thy seruant did feare the Lord: and the creditour is come to take my two sonnes to bee his bondmen.

Et une femme d’entre les femmes des fils des prophètes cria à Élisée, disant: Ton serviteur, mon mari, est mort; et tu sais que ton serviteur craignait l’Éternel; et le créancier est venu pour prendre mes deux enfants, afin qu’ils soient ses serviteurs.

2 Then Elisha saide vnto her, What shall I do for thee? tell mee, what hast thou at home? And she sayd, Thine handmayd hath nothing at home, saue a pitcher of oyle.

Et Élisée lui dit: Que ferai-je pour toi? Dis-moi ce que tu as à la maison. Et elle dit: Ta servante n’a rien du tout dans la maison qu’ un pot d’huile.

3 And he sayde, Goe, and borowe thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, emptie vessels, and spare not.

Et il dit: Va, demande pour toi, du dehors, des vases à tous tes voisins, des vases vides (n’en demande pas peu);

4 And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the doore vpon thee and vpon thy sonnes, and powre out into all those vessels, and set aside those that are full.

et rentre, et ferme la porte sur toi et sur tes fils, et verse dans tous ces vases, et ôte ceux qui seront remplis.

5 So shee departed from him, and shut the doore vpon her, and vpon her sonnes. And they brought to her, and she powred out.

Et elle s’en alla d’auprès de lui, et elle ferma la porte sur elle et sur ses fils: ceux-ci lui apportaient [les vases], et elle versait.

6 And when the vessels were full, shee sayde vnto her sonne, Bring mee yet a vessel. And hee said vnto her, There is no moe vessels. And the oyle ceased.

Et il arriva que, quand les vases furent remplis, elle dit à son fils: Apporte-moi encore un vase. Et il lui dit: Il n’y a plus de vase. Et l’huile s’arrêta.

7 Then shee came and tolde the man of God. And he saide, Goe, and sell the oyle, and pay them that thou art in debt vnto, and liue thou and thy children of the rest.

Et elle s’en vint et le raconta à l’homme de Dieu, et il dit: Va, vends l’huile, et paie ta dette; et vous vivrez, toi et tes fils, de ce qui restera.

8 And on a time Elisha came to Shunem, and there a woman of great estimation constrained him to eate bread: and as he passed by, he turned in thither to eate bread.

Et, un jour, il arriva qu’Élisée passa par Sunem; et il y avait là une femme riche, et elle le retint pour manger le pain. Et il se trouva que, chaque fois qu’il passait, il se retirait là pour manger le pain.

9 And she sayde vnto her husband, Beholde, I know now, that this is an holy man of God that passeth by vs continually.

Et elle dit à son mari: Voici, je connais que c’est un saint homme de Dieu qui passe chez nous continuellement.

10 Let vs make him a litle chamber, I pray thee, with walles, and let vs set him there a bed, and a table, and a stoole, and a candlesticke, that hee may turne in thither when hee commeth to vs.

Faisons, je te prie, une petite chambre haute en maçonnerie, et mettons-y pour lui un lit, et une table, et un siège, et un chandelier; et il arrivera que, quand il viendra chez nous, il se retirera là.

11 And on a day, hee came thither and turned into the chamber, and lay therein,

Or, un jour, il arriva qu’il vint là, et qu’il se retira dans la chambre haute et y coucha.

12 And sayd to Gehazi his seruant, Call this Shunammite: and when hee called her, she stood before him.

Et il dit à Guéhazi, son jeune homme: Appelle cette Sunamite. Et il l’appela, et elle se tint devant lui.

13 Then he sayd vnto him, Say vnto her now, Beholde, thou hast had all this great care for vs, what shall we doe for thee? Is there any thing to bee spoken for thee to the King or to the captaine of the hoste? And shee answered, I dwell among mine owne people.

Et il dit à Guéhazi: Dis-lui, je te prie: Voici, tu as montré pour nous tout cet empressement; qu’y a-t-il à faire pour toi? Faut-il parler pour toi au roi, ou au chef de l’armée? Et elle dit: J’habite au milieu de mon peuple.

14 Againe he sayde, What is then to be done for her? Then Gehazi answered, In deede she hath no sonne, and her husband is olde.

Et il dit: Qu’y a-t-il donc à faire pour elle? Et Guéhazi dit: Eh bien, elle n’a pas de fils, et son mari est vieux.

15 Then said he, Cal her. And hee called her, and shee stoode in the doore.

Et [Élisée] dit: Appelle-la. Et il l’appela. Et elle se tint dans la porte.

16 And he said, At this time appointed, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a sonne. And she sayd, Oh my Lord, thou man of God, doe not lye vnto thine handmayd.

Et il [lui] dit: À cette même époque, quand ton terme sera là, tu embrasseras un fils. Et elle dit: Non, mon seigneur, homme de Dieu, ne mens pas à ta servante!

17 So the woman conceiued, and bare a sonne at that same season, according to the time of life, that Elisha had sayd vnto her.

Et la femme conçut, et enfanta un fils à cette même époque, quand son terme fut là, comme Élisée lui avait dit.

18 And when the childe was growen, it fell on a day, that he went out to his father, and to the reapers.

Et l’enfant grandit: et il arriva qu’un jour il sortit vers son père, vers les moissonneurs;

19 And he sayde to his father, Mine head, mine head. Who sayd to his seruant, Beare him to his mother.

et il dit à son père: Ma tête! ma tête! Et [le père] dit au serviteur: Porte-le à sa mère.

20 And hee tooke him and brought him to his mother, and hee sate on her knees till noone, and dyed.

Et il l’emporta, et l’amena à sa mère; et il resta sur ses genoux jusqu’à midi, et mourut.

21 Then shee went vp, and layed him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the doore vpon him, and went out.

Et elle monta, et le coucha sur le lit de l’homme de Dieu; et elle ferma la porte sur lui, et sortit.

22 Then she called to her husband, and sayd, Send with me, I pray thee, one of the yong men and one of the asses: for I will haste to the man of God, and come againe.

Et elle appela son mari, et dit: Envoie-moi, je te prie, un des jeunes hommes, et une des ânesses, et je courrai jusqu’à l’homme de Dieu; et je reviendrai.

23 And he sayd, Wherefore wilt thou goe to him to day? it is neither newe moone nor Sabbath day. And she answered, All shalbe well.

Et il dit: Pourquoi vas-tu vers lui aujourd’hui? Ce n’est ni nouvelle lune ni sabbat. Et elle dit: Tout va bien.

24 Then she sadled an asse, and sayde to her seruant, Driue, and goe forward: staye not for me to get vp, except I bid thee.

Et elle fit seller l’ânesse, et dit à son jeune homme: Mène-la, et marche; ne m’arrête pas dans la course, à moins que je ne te le dise.

25 So she went, and came vnto the man of God to mount Carmel. And when the man of God sawe her ouer against him, he sayd to Gehazi his seruant, Beholde, the Shunammite.

Et elle s’en alla, et vint vers l’homme de Dieu, sur la montagne du Carmel. Et il arriva que, quand l’homme de Dieu la vit de loin, il dit à Guéhazi, son jeune homme: Voici cette Sunamite!

26 Runne nowe, I say, to meete her, and say vnto her, Art thou in health? is thine husband in health? and is the child in health? And she answered, We are in health.

Cours maintenant, je te prie, à sa rencontre, et dis-lui: Tout va-t-il bien? Ton mari va-t-il bien? L’enfant va-t-il bien? Et elle dit: Bien.

27 And when shee came to the man of God vnto the moutaine, she caught him by his feete: and Gehazi went to her, to thrust her away: but the man of God said, Let her alone: for her soule is vexed within her, and the Lord hath hid it from me, and hath not told it mee.

Et elle vint vers l’homme de Dieu sur la montagne, et elle le saisit par les pieds; et Guéhazi s’approcha pour la repousser; et l’homme de Dieu dit: Laisse-la, car son âme est dans l’amertume, et l’Éternel me l’a caché et ne me l’a pas déclaré.

28 Then she said, Did I desire a sonne of my lord? did I not say, Deceiue me not?

Alors elle dit: Ai-je demandé un fils à mon seigneur? N’ai-je pas dit: Ne me trompe pas?

29 Then he sayd to Gehazi, Gird thy loynes, and take my staffe in thine hand, and goe thy way: if thou meete any, salute him not: and if any salute thee, answere him not: and laye my staffe vpon the face of the childe.

Et il dit à Guéhazi: Ceins tes reins, et prends mon bâton en ta main, et va-t’en: si tu trouves quelqu’un, ne le salue pas, et si quelqu’un te salue, ne lui réponds pas, et tu mettras mon bâton sur le visage du jeune garçon.

30 And the mother of the childe sayde, As the Lord liueth, and as thy soule liueth, I will not leaue thee. Therefore he arose, and followed her.

Et la mère du jeune garçon dit: L’Éternel est vivant, et ton âme est vivante, que je ne te laisserai point! Et il se leva, et s’en alla après elle.

31 But Gehazi was gone before them, and had layed the staffe vpon the face of the childe, but he neither spake nor heard: wherefore hee returned to meete him, and told him, saying, The childe is not waken.

Et Guéhazi les devança, et il mit le bâton sur le visage du jeune garçon, mais il n’y eut pas de voix, pas de signe d’attention. Et il s’en retourna à la rencontre d’Élisée, et lui rapporta, disant: Le jeune garçon ne s’est pas réveillé.

32 Then came Elisha into the house, and beholde, the childe was dead, and layed vpon his bedde.

Et Élisée entra dans la maison, et voici, le jeune garçon était mort, couché sur son lit.

33 He went in therefore, and shut the doore vpon them twayne, and prayed vnto the Lord.

Et il entra, et ferma la porte sur eux deux, et supplia l’Éternel.

34 After he went vp, and lay vpon the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, and his eyes vpon his eies, and his hands vpon his handes, and stretched himselfe vpon him, and the flesh of the child waxed warme.

Et il monta, et se coucha sur l’enfant, et mit sa bouche sur sa bouche, et ses yeux sur ses yeux, et ses mains sur ses mains, et se courba sur lui; et la chair de l’enfant se réchauffa.

35 And hee went from him, and walked vp and downe in the house, and went vp and spred himselfe vpon him: then the childe neesed seuen times, and opened his eyes.

Et il se retirait et allait par la maison, tantôt ici, tantôt là; et il montait, et se courbait sur lui. Et le jeune garçon éternua par sept fois, et le jeune garçon ouvrit ses yeux.

36 Then he called Gehazi, and sayd, Call this Shunammite. So he called her, which came in vnto him. And he said vnto her, Take thy sonne.

Et [Élisée] appela Guéhazi, et [lui] dit: Appelle cette Sunamite. Et il l’appela, et elle vint vers lui. Et il dit: Prends ton fils.

37 And she came, and fell at his feete, and bowed her selfe to the ground, and tooke vp her sonne, and went out.

Et elle vint et tomba à ses pieds, et se prosterna en terre; et elle prit son fils et sortit.

38 Afterward Elisha returned to Gilgal, and a famine was in the land, and the children of the Prophets dwelt with him. And hee sayd vnto his seruant, Set on the great pot, and seethe pottage for the children of the Prophets.

Et Élisée retourna à Guilgal. Or il y avait une famine dans le pays. Et les fils des prophètes étaient assis devant lui; et il dit à son jeune homme: Mets la grande marmite, et cuis un potage pour les fils des prophètes.

39 And one went out into the fielde, to gather herbes, and founde, as it were, a wilde vine, and gathered thereof wilde gourdes his garment ful, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage: for they knew it not.

Et l’un [d’eux] sortit aux champs pour cueillir des herbes, et il trouva de la vigne sauvage et y cueillit des coloquintes sauvages, plein sa robe; et il rentra et les coupa en morceaux dans la marmite du potage, car on ne les connaissait pas.

40 So they powred out for the men to eate: and when they did eate of the pottage, they cryed out, and sayde, O thou man of God, death is in the pot: and they could not eate thereof.

Et on versa à manger aux hommes; et il arriva que, comme ils mangeaient du potage, on cria et dit: Homme de Dieu, la mort est dans la marmite! Et ils n’en pouvaient manger.

41 Then he said, Bring meale. And hee cast it into the potte, and sayd, Powre out for the people, that they may eate: and there was none euill in the pot.

Et il dit: Apportez de la farine. Et il la jeta dans la marmite, et dit: Verses-en à ce peuple, et qu’ils mangent. Et il n’y avait rien de mauvais dans la marmite.

42 Then came a man from Baal-shalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the first fruits, euen twenty loaues of barley, and full eares of corne in the huske. And hee saide, Giue vnto the people, that they may eate.

Et il vint de Baal-Shalisha un homme qui apporta à l’homme de Dieu du pain des premiers fruits, 20 pains d’orge et du grain en épi dans son sac. Et [Élisée] dit: Donne [cela] au peuple, et qu’ils mangent.

43 And his seruant answered, How shoulde I set this before an hundreth men? He sayd againe, Giue it vnto the people, that they may eate: for thus sayth the Lord, They shall eate, and there shall remaine.

Et celui qui le servait, dit: Comment mettrai-je ceci devant 100 hommes? Et il dit: Donne-le au peuple, et qu’ils mangent; car ainsi dit l’Éternel: On mangera, et il y en aura de reste.

44 So he set it before them, and they did eate, and left ouer, according to the word of the Lord.

Et il le mit devant eux, et ils mangèrent, et ils en eurent de reste, selon la parole de l’Éternel.
