2 Kings 18

1 Now in the third yeere of Hoshea, sonne of Elah King of Israel, Hezekiah the sonne of Ahaz king of Iudah began to reigne.

I Israels konge Hoseas, Elas sønns tredje år blev Esekias, sønn av Judas konge Akas, konge.

2 He was fiue and twentie yeere olde when he began to reigne, and reigned nine and twenty yeere in Ierusalem. His mothers name also was Abi the daughter of Zachariah,

Han var fem og tyve år gammel da han blev konge, og han regjerte ni og tyve år i Jerusalem; hans mor hette Abi og var datter av Sakarja.

3 And he did vprightly in the sight of the Lord, according to all that Dauid his father had done.

Han gjorde hvad rett var i Herrens øine, aldeles som hans far David hadde gjort.

4 He tooke away the hie places, and brake the images, and cut downe the groues, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for vnto those dayes the children of Israel did burne incense to it, and hee called it Nehushtan.

Han nedla offerhaugene og sønderslo billedstøttene og hugg Astarte-billedet i stykker og knuste den kobberslange Moses hadde gjort; for like til den tid hadde Israels barn brent røkelse for den; de kalte den Nehustan.

5 He trusted in the Lord God of Israel: so that after him was none like him among all the Kings of Iudah, neither were there any such before him.

Til Herren, Israels Gud, satte han sin lit, og efter ham har det ikke vært hans like blandt alle Judas konger, heller ikke blandt dem som hadde vært før ham.

6 For he claue to the Lord, and departed not from him, but kept his commandements, which the Lord had commanded Moses.

Han holdt fast ved Herren, han vek ikke fra ham, og han holdt hans bud, dem som Herren hadde gitt Moses.

7 So the Lord was with him, and he prospered in all thinges, which he tooke in hande: also he rebelled against the King of Asshur, and serued him not.

Og Herren var med ham; i alt han tok sig fore, bar han sig viselig at. Han falt fra kongen i Assyria og vilde ikke tjene ham lenger.

8 He smote the Philistims vnto Azzah, and the coastes thereof, from the watch towre vnto the defensed citie.

Han slo filistrene og tok deres land like til Gasa og de omliggende bygder like fra vakttårnene til de faste byer.

9 And in the fourth yere of King Hezekiah, (which was the seuenth yeere of Hoshea sonne of Elah King of Israel) Shalmaneser King of Asshur came vp against Samaria, and besieged it.

I kong Esekias' fjerde år, som var Israels konge Hoseas, Elas sønns syvende år, drog Salmanassar, kongen i Assyria, op imot Samaria og kringsatte det.

10 And after three yeeres they tooke it, euen in the sixt yeere of Hezekiah: that is, the ninth yeere of Hoshea King of Israel was Samaria taken.

Da tre år var gått, inntok de det; det var i Esekias' sjette år, som var Israels konge Hoseas niende år, Samaria blev inntatt.

11 Then the King of Asshur did carry away Israel vnto Asshur, and put them in Halah and in Habor, by the riuer of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,

Og kongen i Assyria bortførte Israel til Assyria og flyttet dem til Halah og til Habor, en elv i Gosan, og til Medias byer,

12 Because they woulde not obey the voyce of the Lord their God, but transgressed his couenant: that is, all that Moses the seruant of the Lord had commanded, and would neyther obey nor doe them.

fordi de ikke hadde hørt på Herrens, sin Guds røst, men overtrådt hans pakt - alt det Moses, Herrens tjener, hadde befalt; de hverken hørte eller gjorde efter det.

13 Moreouer, in the fourteenth yeere of King Hezekiah, Saneherib King of Asshur came vp against all the strong cities of Iudah, and tooke them.

I kong Esekias' fjortende år drog kongen i Assyria Sankerib op imot alle Judas faste byer og inntok dem.

14 Then Hezekiah King of Iudah sent vnto the King of Asshur to Lachish, saying, I haue offended: depart from me, and what thou layest vpon me, I wil beare it. And the King of Asshur appoynted vnto Hezekiah King of Iudah three hudreth talents of siluer, and thirty talets of golde.

Da sendte Judas konge Esekias bud til den assyriske konge i Lakis og lot si: Jeg har syndet; vend tilbake fra mig! Hvad du legger på mig, vil jeg bære. Da påla kongen i Assyria Judas konge Esekias å betale tre hundre talenter sølv og tretti talenter gull.

15 Therefore Hezekiah gaue all the siluer that was found in the house of the Lord, and in the treasures of the Kings house.

Og Esekias gav alt det sølv som fantes i Herrens hus og i skattkammerne i kongens hus.

16 At the same season did Hezekiah pul off the plates of the doores of the Temple of the Lord, and the pillars (which the sayd Hezekiah King of Iudah had couered ouer) and gaue them to the King of Asshur.

Ved den leilighet lot Esekias gullet bryte av dørene på Herrens tempel og av dørstolpene som Esekias, Judas konge, hadde klædd med gull, og gav det til kongen i Assyria.

17 And the King of Asshur sent Tartan, and Rab-saris, and Rabshakeh from Lachish to King Hezekiah with a great hoste against Ierusalem. And they went vp, and came to Ierusalem, and when they were come vp, they stood by the conduite of the vpper poole, which is by the path of the fullers fielde,

Men kongen i Assyria sendte Tartan og Rabsaris og Rabsake med en stor hær fra Lakis til kong Esekias i Jerusalem; og de drog op og kom til Jerusalem, og da de var kommet dit, stanset de ved vannledningen fra den øvre dam, ved alfarveien til Vaskervollen.

18 And called to the King. Then came out to them Eliakim the sonne of Hilkiah, which was steward of the house, and Shebnah the chanceller, and Ioah the sonne of Asaph the recorder.

Og de ropte på kongen; da gikk slottshøvdingen Eljakim, Hilkias' sønn, ut til dem sammen med statsskriveren Sebna og historieskriveren Joah, Asafs sønn.

19 And Rabshakeh sayde vnto them, Tell ye Hezekiah, I pray you, Thus saith the great King, euen the great King of Asshur, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?

Og Rabsake sa til dem: Si til Esekias: Så sier den store konge, kongen i Assyria: Hvad er det for en trygghet som er kommet over dig?

20 Thou thinkest, Surely I haue eloquence, but counsell and strength are for the warre. On whom then doest thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?

Du sier - men det er bare tomme ord -: Her er innsikt og styrke nok til krig. Til hvem setter du da din lit, siden du har gjort oprør mot mig?

21 Lo, thou trustest now in this broken staffe of reede, to wit, on Egypt, on which if a man leane, it will goe into his hand, and pearce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt vnto all that trust on him.

Nuvel, du setter din lit til Egypten, denne knekkede rørstav, som når en støtter sig på den, går inn i hans hånd og gjennemborer den; således er kongen i Egypten Farao for alle dem som setter sin lit til ham.

22 But if ye say vnto me, We trust in the Lord our God, is not that he whose hie places, and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath sayd to Iudah and Ierusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Ierusalem?

Men sier I til mig: Vi setter vår lit til Herren vår Gud - er det da ikke hans offerhauger og altere Esekias har tatt bort, da han sa til Juda og Jerusalem: For dette alter skal I tilbede, her i Jerusalem?

23 Now therefore giue hostages to my lord the King of Asshur, and I will giue thee two thousand horses, if thou be able to set riders vpon them.

Men gjør nu et veddemål med min herre, kongen i Assyria: Jeg vil gi dig to tusen hester om du kan få dig folk til å ride på dem.

24 For how canst thou despise any captaine of the least of my masters seruants, and put thy trust on Egypt for charets and horsemen?

Hvorledes skulde du da kunne drive tilbake en eneste stattholder, en av min herres ringeste tjenere? Derfor setter du din lit til Egypten og håper å få vogner og hestfolk derfra.

25 Am I now come vp without the Lord to this place, to destroy it? the Lord sayd to me, Goe vp against this land, and destroy it.

Mener du da at jeg har draget op mot dette sted for å ødelegge det, uten at Herren har villet det? Nei, Herren har selv sagt til mig: Dra op mot dette land og ødelegg det!

26 Then Eliakim the sonne of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Ioah said vnto Rabshakeh, Speake I pray thee, to thy seruants in the Aramites language, for we vnderstand it, and talke not with vs in the Iewes tongue, in the audience of the people that are on the wall.

Da sa Eljakim, Hilkias' sønn, og Sebna og Joah til Rabsake: Tal til dine tjenere på syrisk, for vi forstår det sprog, og tal ikke til oss på jødisk, så folket som står på muren, hører det!

27 But Rabshakeh saide vnto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speake these words, and not to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eate their owne doung, and drinke their owne pisse with you?

Men Rabsake svarte: Er det til din herre og til dig min herre har sendt mig for å tale disse ord? Er det ikke til de menn som sitter på muren og må ete sitt eget skarn og drikke sitt eget vann likesom I selv?

28 So Rabshakeh stoode and cryed with a loude voyce in the Iewes language, and spake, saying, Heare the wordes of the great King, of the king of Asshur.

Og Rabsake trådte frem og ropte med høi røst på jødisk og talte således: Hør den store konges, den assyriske konges ord!

29 Thus sayth the King, Let not Hezekiah deceiue you: for he shall not be able to deliuer you out of mine hand.

Så sier kongen: La ikke Esekias få narret eder! For han makter ikke å redde eder av hans hånd.

30 Neither let Hezekiah make you to trust in the Lord, saying, The Lord will surely deliuer vs, and this citie shall not be giuen ouer into the hand of the king of Asshur.

Og la ikke Esekias få eder til å sette eders lit til Herren, idet han sier: Herren vil redde oss, og denne by skal ikke gis i kongen av Assyrias hånd.

31 Hearken not vnto Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Asshur, Make appointment with me, and come out to me, that euery man may eate of his owne vine, and euery man of his owne figge tree, and drinke euery man of the water of his owne well,

Hør ikke på Esekias! For så sier kongen i Assyria: Gjør fred med mig og kom ut til mig, så skal I få ete hver av sitt vintre og av sitt fikentre og drikke hver av vannet i sin brønn,

32 Till I come, and bring you to a land like your owne land, euen a land of wheate and wine, a land of bread and vineyardes, a lande of oliues oyle, and hony, that ye may liue and not die: and obey not Hezekiah, for he deceiueth you, saying, The Lord will deliuer vs.

til jeg kommer og henter eder til et land som ligner eders land, et land med korn og most, et land med brød og vingårder, et land med oljetrær og honning, så I kan leve og ikke skal dø! Hør ikke på Esekias når han vil forføre eder og si: Herren vil redde oss!

33 Hath any of the gods of the nations deliuered his lande out of the hand of the King of Asshur?

Har vel nogen av folkenes guder reddet sitt land av kongen i Assyrias hånd?

34 Where is the god of Hamah, and of Arpad? where is the god of Sepharuaim, Hena and Iuah? how haue they deliuered Samaria out of mine hand?

Hvor er Hamats og Arpads guder? Hvor er Sefarva'ims, Henas og Ivvas guder? Har vel Samarias guder reddet det av min hånd?

35 Who are they among all the gods of the nations, that haue deliuered their lande out of mine hand, that the Lord should deliuer Ierusalem out of mine hand?

Hvem er det blandt alle landenes guder som har reddet sitt land av min hånd, så Herren skulde redde Jerusalem av min hånd?

36 But the people helde their peace, and answered not him a worde: for the Kings commandement was, saying, Answere ye him not.

Men folket tidde og svarte ham ikke et ord; for kongens bud lød så: I skal ikke svare ham.

37 Then Eliakim, the sonne of Hilkiah which was steward of the house, and Shebnah the chanceller, and Ioah the sonne of Asaph the recorder came to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and tolde him the wordes of Rabshakeh.

Så kom slottshøvdingen Eljakim, Hilkias' sønn, og statsskriveren Sebna og historieskriveren Joah, Asafs sønn, til Esekias med sønderrevne klær og meldte ham hvad Rabsake hadde sagt.
