2 Kings 17
1 In the twelft yeere of Ahaz King of Iudah began Hoshea the sonne of Elah to reigne in Samaria ouer Israel, and reigned nine yeeres.
La douzième année d'Achaz, roi de Juda, Hosée, fils d'Éla, devint roi d'Israël à Samarie, pour neuf ans.
2 And he did euill in the sight of the Lord, but not as the Kinges of Israel, that were before him.
Et il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel, seulement pas à l'égal des rois d'Israël, ses prédécesseurs.
3 And Shalmaneser king of Asshur came vp against him, and Hoshea became his seruant, and gaue him presents.
Contre lui s'avança Salmanassar, roi d'Assyrie, et Hosée lui fut assujetti, et lui paya un tribut.
4 And the King of Asshur founde treason in Hoshea: for he had sent messengers to So King of Egypt, and brought no present vnto the King of Asshur, as he had done yeerely: therfore the king of Asshur shut him vp, and put him in prison.
Mais le roi d'Assyrie découvrit une menée chez Hosée, lequel envoyait des messagers à So, roi d'Egypte, et ne payait point le tribut au roi d'Assyrie année par année; c'est pourquoi le roi d'Assyrie le fit prisonnier et le mit aux fers dans un cachot.
5 Then the king of Asshur came vp throughout all the lande, and went against Samaria, and besieged it three yeere.
Et le roi d'Assyrie s'avança sur tout le pays, et marcha contre Samarie qu'il assiégea trois ans.
6 In the ninth yeere of Hoshea, the King of Asshur tooke Samaria, and caryed Israel away vnto Asshur, and put them in Halah, and in Habor by the riuer of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
La neuvième année d'Hosée le roi d'Assyrie prit Samarie et déporta les Israélites en Assyrie, et les établit à Chala et au Chabor, fleuve de Gozan, et dans les villes des Mèdes.
7 For when the children of Israel sinned against the Lord their God, which had brought them out of the land of Egypt, from vnder ye hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and feared other gods,
C'est que les enfants d'Israël s'étaient rendus coupables envers l'Éternel, leur Dieu, qui les avait retirés du pays d'Egypte, de dessous la main de Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, et qu'ils révérèrent des dieux différents.
8 And walked according to the facions of the Heathen, whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel, and after the maners of the Kings of Israel, which they vsed,
Et ils suivirent les us des nations que l'Éternel avait chassées devant les enfants d'Israël, et des rois d'Israël qui les avaient institués.
9 And the children of Israel had done secretly things that were not vpright before the Lord their God, and throughout all their cities had built hie places, both from the tower of the watch, to the defensed citie,
Et les enfants d'Israël firent parade de choses qui ne sont pas bien, en opposition à l'Éternel, leur Dieu, et s'élevèrent des tertres dans toutes leurs villes, depuis les tours d'observation aux places fortes.
10 And had made them images and groues vpon euery hie hill, and vnder euery greene tree,
Et ils se dressèrent des colonnes et des Astartés sur toute colline éminente, et sous tout arbre vert.
11 And there burnt incense in all the hie places, as did the heathen, whom the Lord had taken away before them, and wrought wicked things to anger the Lord,
Et là ils offrirent l'encens sur tous les tertres comme les nations que l'Éternel avait exilées devant eux, et pratiquèrent des choses mauvaises pour provoquer l'Éternel.
12 And serued idoles: whereof the Lord had sayd vnto them, Ye shall do no such thing,
Et ils servirent les idoles dont l'Éternel leur avait dit: Vous n'en ferez rien.
13 Notwithstanding the Lord testified to Israel, and to Iudah by all the Prophets, and by all the Seers, saying, Turne from your euill wayes, and keepe my commandements and my statutes, according to all the Lawe, which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my seruants the Prophets.
Et l'Éternel somma Israël et Juda par l'organe de tous ses prophètes, de tout Voyant, en ces termes: Quittez vos voies mauvaises et gardez mes commandements, mes statuts, d'après toute la Loi que j'ai prescrite à vos pères, et tous les messages que je vous ai envoyés par l'organe de mes serviteurs les prophètes!
14 Neuerthelesse they would not obey, but hardened their neckes, like to the neckes of their fathers, that did not beleeue in the Lord their God.
Mais ils n'écoutèrent point, ils roidirent leur col comme le col de leurs pères, qui n'avaient pas cru en l'Éternel, leur Dieu.
15 And they refused his statutes and his couenant, that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies (wherewith he witnessed vnto them) and they followed vanitie, and became vaine, and followed the heathen that were round about them: concerning whome the Lord had charged them, that they should not do like them.
Et ils méprisèrent ses statuts et son alliance qu'il avait conclue avec leurs pères, et ses sommations qu'il leur adressait, et ils suivirent les vaines idoles et s'adonnèrent à la vanité, et imitèrent les nations de leurs alentours que l'Éternel leur avait commandé de ne point imiter.
16 Finally they left all the commandements of the Lord their God, and made them molten images, euen two calues, and made a groue, and worshipped all the hoste of heauen, and serued Baal.
Et ils négligèrent tous les commandements de l'Éternel, leur Dieu, et se fabriquèrent des images de fonte, deux veaux, et ils se firent des Astartés, et adorèrent toute l'armée des cieux, et rendirent un culte à Baal.
17 And they made their sonnes and their daughters passe thorowe the fire, and vsed witchcraft and inchantments, yea, solde them selues to doe euill in the sight of the Lord, to anger him.
Et ils firent passer par le feu leurs fils et leurs filles et pratiquèrent la divination et les augures et se vendirent pour faire ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel, afin de le provoquer.
18 Therefore the Lord was exceeding wroth with Israel, and put them out of his sight, and none was left but the tribe of Iudah onely.
Alors l'Éternel se courrouça fort contre Israël et Il les exclut de sa présence: il ne resta que la tribu de Juda seule.
19 Yet Iudah kept not the commandements of the Lord their God, but walked according to the facion of Israel, which they vsed.
Même Juda ne garda pas les commandements de l'Éternel, leur Dieu; ils marchèrent d'après les statuts dressés par les Israélites.
20 Therefore the Lord cast off all the seede of Israel, and afflicted them, and deliuered them into the handes of spoylers, vntill he had cast them out of his sight.
Ce qui fit que l'Éternel répudia la totalité de la race d'Israël qu'il humilia et livra à la merci des spoliateurs jusque-là qu'il les bannit de sa présence.
21 For he cut off Israel from the house of Dauid, and they made Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat King: and Ieroboam drewe Israel away from following the Lord, and made them sinne a great sinne.
C'est pourquoi Israël avait fait scission avec la maison de David, et s'était donné pour roi Jéroboam, fils de Nebat, et Jéroboam avait débauché Israël du service de l'Éternel et l'avait entraîné à un péché grand.
22 For the children of Israel walked in all the sinnes of Ieroboam, which he did, and departed not therefrom,
Et les enfants d'Israël persistèrent dans tous les péchés de Jéroboam, que celui-ci avait commis, et ne s'en départirent pas,
23 Vntill the Lord put Israel away out of his sight, as he had said by all his seruants the Prophets, and caryed Israel away out of their land to Asshur vnto this day.
jusque là que l'Éternel exclut Israël de sa présence, comme Il avait dit par l'organe de tous ses serviteurs les prophètes, et Israël fut déporté de son pays en Assyrie; ce qu'il est encore aujourd'hui.
24 And the King of Asshur brought folke from Babel, and from Cuthah, and from Aua, and from Hamath, and from Sepharuaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria in steade of the children of Israel: so they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.
Et le roi d'Assyrie fit venir [du monde] de Babel et de Cutha et de Arva et de Hamath et de Sepharvaïm, et il l'établit dans les villes de la Samarie en place des enfants d'Israël; et ils prirent possession de la Samarie et se domicilièrent dans les villes.
25 And at the beginning of their dwelling there, they feared not the Lord: therefore the Lord sent lions among them, which slewe them.
Et il arriva au début de l'établissement de ces gens qui ne craignaient pas l'Éternel, que l'Éternel envoya contre eux les lions, qui firent du carnage parmi eux.
26 Wherefore they spake to the King of Asshur, saying, The nations which thou hast remoued, and placed in the cities of Samaria, knowe not the maner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and behold, they slay them, because they knowe not the maner of the God of the land.
Alors ils s'adressèrent au roi d'Assyrie en ces termes: Les nations que tu as transportées et établies dans les villes de la Samarie, ne connaissent pas le rite du dieu du pays: aussi a-t-il envoyé contre eux les lions qui, voici, les tuent, parce qu'ils ignorent, le rite du dieu du pays.
27 Then the King of Asshur commanded, saying, Carie thither one of the Priestes whome ye brought thence, and let him goe and dwell there, and teache them the maner of the God of the countrey.
Et le roi d'Assyrie donna cet ordre: Ramenez-y l'un des prêtres que vous avez emmenés de là en captivité; afin qu'ils puissent aller y habiter étant initiés [par le prêtre] au rite du dieu du pays.
28 So one of the Priestes, which they had caryed from Samaria, came and dwelt in Beth-el, and taught them how they shoulde feare the Lord.
Il vint donc un des prêtres qu'ils avaient emmenés de Samarie, et il se fixa à Béthel, et il leur enseigna comment ils devaient célébrer le culte de l'Éternel.
29 Howbeit euery nation made their gods, and put them in the houses of the hie places, which the Samaritanes had made, euery nation in their cities, wherein they dwelt.
Cependant chaque peuplade se faisait d'ailleurs son dieu, et elles les placèrent dans les temples des tertres élevés par les Samaritains, chacune dans les villes où elle était établie.
30 For the men of Babel made Succoth-Benoth: and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,
Et les gens de Babel firent des loges de filles, et les gens de Cuth [l'idole] Nergal, et les gens de Hamath, Asima,
31 And the Auims made Nibhaz, and Tartak: and the Sepharuims burnt their children in the fire to Adrammelech, and Anammelech the gods of Sepharuaim.
et les Avites, Nibchaz et Thirthak, et les Sepharvites brûlaient leurs fils dans le feu à Adrammelech et Anammelech, divinités de Sepharvaïm.
32 Thus they feared the Lord, and appoynted out Priestes out of them selues for the hie places, who prepared for them sacrifices in the houses of the hie places.
Et ils rendaient aussi un culte à l'Éternel, et se créèrent de leur sein des prêtres pour les tertres, qui sacrifiaient pour eux dans les temples des tertres.
33 They feared the Lord, but serued their gods after the maner of the nations whome they caryed thence.
Ils rendaient un culte à l'Éternel et servaient leurs dieux selon le rite des nations d'où on les avait transportés.
34 Vnto this day they doe after the olde maner: they neyther feare God, neyther doe after their ordinances, nor after their customes, nor after the Lawe, nor after the commandement, which the Lord commanded the children of Iaakob, whom he named Israel,
Jusqu'aujourd'hui leur pratique est conforme à leurs premiers usages; ils ne rendent point un culte à l'Éternel [seul]; et n'agissent point [uniquement] d'après leurs us, et coutumes, nom plus que d'après la Loi et le Commandement prescrit par l'Éternel aux fils de Jacob à qui Il avait donné le nom d'Israël.
35 And with whom the Lord had made a couenant, and charged them, saying, Feare none other gods, nor bowe your selues to them, nor serue them, nor sacrifice to them:
Car l'Éternel avait conclu une alliance avec eux, et leur avait donné cet ordre: Vous ne craindrez pas d'autres dieux et vous ne les adorerez pas et ne les servirez pas et ne leur ferez pas de sacrifices;
36 But feare the Lord which brought you out of the land of Egypt with great power, and a stretched out arme: him feare ye, and worshippe him, and sacrifice to him.
mais l'Éternel, qui vous a retirés du pays d'Egypte avec une grande puissance et le bras étendu, c'est Lui que vous craindrez, adorerez, Lui à qui vous offrirez des sacrifices;
37 Also keepe ye diligently the statutes and the ordinances, and the Lawe, and the commandement, which he wrote for you, that ye do them continually, and feare not other gods.
et les statuts et les rites et la Loi et le Commandement qu'il vous a donnés par écrit, c'est ce que vous observerez pour le pratiquer en tout temps, sans craindre d'autres dieux;
38 And forget not the couenant that I haue made with you, neither feare ye other gods,
et l'alliance que J'ai conclue avec vous, vous ne l'oublierez pas, et vous ne craindrez pas d'autres dieux;
39 But feare the Lord your God, and he will deliuer you out of the handes of all your enemies.
mais l'Éternel, votre Dieu, vous le craindrez, et Il vous sauvera de la main de tous vos ennemis.
40 Howbeit they obeyed not, but did after their olde custome.
Mais ils n'obéirent pas; au contraire, ils se réglèrent d'après leurs premiers usages.
41 So these nations feared the Lord, and serued their images also: so did their children, and their childrens children: as did their fathers, so do they vnto this day.
C'est ainsi que ces nations, tout en rendant un culte à l'Éternel, servaient leurs idoles, et leurs enfants et petits-enfants agissent aujourd'hui encore, comme ont agi leurs pères.
