2 Kings 17
1 In the twelft yeere of Ahaz King of Iudah began Hoshea the sonne of Elah to reigne in Samaria ouer Israel, and reigned nine yeeres.
La douzième année d’Achaz, roi de Juda, Osée, fils d’Éla, régna sur Israël à Samarie. Il régna neuf ans.
2 And he did euill in the sight of the Lord, but not as the Kinges of Israel, that were before him.
Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l’Éternel, non pas toutefois comme les rois d’Israël qui avaient été avant lui.
3 And Shalmaneser king of Asshur came vp against him, and Hoshea became his seruant, and gaue him presents.
Salmanasar, roi d’Assyrie, monta contre lui; et Osée lui fut assujetti, et lui paya un tribut.
4 And the King of Asshur founde treason in Hoshea: for he had sent messengers to So King of Egypt, and brought no present vnto the King of Asshur, as he had done yeerely: therfore the king of Asshur shut him vp, and put him in prison.
Mais le roi d’Assyrie découvrit une conspiration chez Osée, qui avait envoyé des messagers à So, roi d’Égypte, et qui ne payait plus annuellement le tribut au roi d’Assyrie. Le roi d’Assyrie le fit enfermer et enchaîner dans une prison.
5 Then the king of Asshur came vp throughout all the lande, and went against Samaria, and besieged it three yeere.
Et le roi d’Assyrie parcourut tout le pays, et monta contre Samarie, qu’il assiégea pendant trois ans.
6 In the ninth yeere of Hoshea, the King of Asshur tooke Samaria, and caryed Israel away vnto Asshur, and put them in Halah, and in Habor by the riuer of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
La neuvième année d’Osée, le roi d’Assyrie prit Samarie, et emmena Israël captif en Assyrie. Il les fit habiter à Chalach, et sur le Chabor, fleuve de Gozan, et dans les villes des Mèdes.
7 For when the children of Israel sinned against the Lord their God, which had brought them out of the land of Egypt, from vnder ye hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and feared other gods,
Cela arriva parce que les enfants d’Israël péchèrent contre l’Éternel, leur Dieu, qui les avait fait monter du pays d’Égypte, de dessous la main de Pharaon, roi d’Égypte, et parce qu’ils craignirent d’autres dieux.
8 And walked according to the facions of the Heathen, whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel, and after the maners of the Kings of Israel, which they vsed,
Ils suivirent les coutumes des nations que l’Éternel avait chassées devant les enfants d’Israël, et celles que les rois d’Israël avaient établies.
9 And the children of Israel had done secretly things that were not vpright before the Lord their God, and throughout all their cities had built hie places, both from the tower of the watch, to the defensed citie,
Les enfants d’Israël firent en secret contre l’Éternel, leur Dieu, des choses qui ne sont pas bien. Ils se bâtirent des hauts lieux dans toutes leurs villes, depuis les tours des gardes jusqu’aux villes fortes.
10 And had made them images and groues vpon euery hie hill, and vnder euery greene tree,
Ils se dressèrent des statues et des idoles sur toute colline élevée et sous tout arbre vert.
11 And there burnt incense in all the hie places, as did the heathen, whom the Lord had taken away before them, and wrought wicked things to anger the Lord,
Et là ils brûlèrent des parfums sur tous les hauts lieux, comme les nations que l’Éternel avait chassées devant eux, et ils firent des choses mauvaises, par lesquelles ils irritèrent l’Éternel.
12 And serued idoles: whereof the Lord had sayd vnto them, Ye shall do no such thing,
Ils servirent les idoles dont l’Éternel leur avait dit: Vous ne ferez pas cela.
13 Notwithstanding the Lord testified to Israel, and to Iudah by all the Prophets, and by all the Seers, saying, Turne from your euill wayes, and keepe my commandements and my statutes, according to all the Lawe, which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my seruants the Prophets.
L’Éternel fit avertir Israël et Juda par tous ses prophètes, par tous les voyants, et leur dit: Revenez de vos mauvaises voies, et observez mes commandements et mes ordonnances, en suivant entièrement la loi que j’ai prescrite à vos pères et que je vous ai envoyée par mes serviteurs les prophètes.
14 Neuerthelesse they would not obey, but hardened their neckes, like to the neckes of their fathers, that did not beleeue in the Lord their God.
Mais ils n’écoutèrent point, et ils roidirent leur cou, comme leurs pères, qui n’avaient pas cru en l’Éternel, leur Dieu.
15 And they refused his statutes and his couenant, that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies (wherewith he witnessed vnto them) and they followed vanitie, and became vaine, and followed the heathen that were round about them: concerning whome the Lord had charged them, that they should not do like them.
Ils rejetèrent ses lois, l’alliance qu’il avait faite avec leurs pères, et les avertissements qu’il leur avait adressés. Ils allèrent après des choses de néant et ne furent eux-mêmes que néant, et après les nations qui les entouraient et que l’Éternel leur avait défendu d’imiter.
16 Finally they left all the commandements of the Lord their God, and made them molten images, euen two calues, and made a groue, and worshipped all the hoste of heauen, and serued Baal.
Ils abandonnèrent tous les commandements de l’Éternel, leur Dieu, ils se firent deux veaux en fonte, ils fabriquèrent des idoles d’Astarté, ils se prosternèrent devant toute l’armée des cieux, et ils servirent Baal.
17 And they made their sonnes and their daughters passe thorowe the fire, and vsed witchcraft and inchantments, yea, solde them selues to doe euill in the sight of the Lord, to anger him.
Ils firent passer par le feu leurs fils et leurs filles, ils se livrèrent à la divination et aux enchantements, et ils se vendirent pour faire ce qui est mal aux yeux de l’Éternel, afin de l’irriter.
18 Therefore the Lord was exceeding wroth with Israel, and put them out of his sight, and none was left but the tribe of Iudah onely.
Aussi l’Éternel s’est-il fortement irrité contre Israël, et les a-t-il éloignés de sa face. Il n’est resté que la seule tribu de Juda.
19 Yet Iudah kept not the commandements of the Lord their God, but walked according to the facion of Israel, which they vsed.
Juda même n’avait pas gardé les commandements de l’Éternel, son Dieu, et ils avaient suivi les coutumes établies par Israël.
20 Therefore the Lord cast off all the seede of Israel, and afflicted them, and deliuered them into the handes of spoylers, vntill he had cast them out of his sight.
L’Éternel a rejeté toute la race d’Israël; il les a humiliés, il les a livrés entre les mains des pillards, et il a fini par les chasser loin de sa face.
21 For he cut off Israel from the house of Dauid, and they made Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat King: and Ieroboam drewe Israel away from following the Lord, and made them sinne a great sinne.
Car Israël s’était détaché de la maison de David, et ils avaient fait roi Jéroboam, fils de Nebath, qui les avait détournés de l’Éternel, et avait fait commettre à Israël un grand péché.
22 For the children of Israel walked in all the sinnes of Ieroboam, which he did, and departed not therefrom,
Les enfants d’Israël s’étaient livrés à tous les péchés que Jéroboam avait commis; ils ne s’en détournèrent point,
23 Vntill the Lord put Israel away out of his sight, as he had said by all his seruants the Prophets, and caryed Israel away out of their land to Asshur vnto this day.
jusqu’à ce que l’Éternel eût chassé Israël loin de sa face, comme il l’avait annoncé par tous ses serviteurs les prophètes. Et Israël a été emmené captif loin de son pays en Assyrie, où il est resté jusqu’à ce jour.
24 And the King of Asshur brought folke from Babel, and from Cuthah, and from Aua, and from Hamath, and from Sepharuaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria in steade of the children of Israel: so they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.
Le roi d’Assyrie fit venir des gens de Babylone, de Cutha, d’Avva, de Hamath et de Sepharvaïm, et les établit dans les villes de Samarie à la place des enfants d’Israël. Ils prirent possession de Samarie, et ils habitèrent dans ses villes.
25 And at the beginning of their dwelling there, they feared not the Lord: therefore the Lord sent lions among them, which slewe them.
Lorsqu’ils commencèrent à y habiter, ils ne craignaient pas l’Éternel, et l’Éternel envoya contre eux des lions qui les tuaient.
26 Wherefore they spake to the King of Asshur, saying, The nations which thou hast remoued, and placed in the cities of Samaria, knowe not the maner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and behold, they slay them, because they knowe not the maner of the God of the land.
On dit au roi d’Assyrie: Les nations que tu as transportées et établies dans les villes de Samarie ne connaissent pas la manière de servir le dieu du pays, et il a envoyé contre elles des lions qui les font mourir, parce qu’elles ne connaissent pas la manière de servir le dieu du pays.
27 Then the King of Asshur commanded, saying, Carie thither one of the Priestes whome ye brought thence, and let him goe and dwell there, and teache them the maner of the God of the countrey.
Le roi d’Assyrie donna cet ordre: Faites-y aller l’un des prêtres que vous avez emmenés de là en captivité; qu’il parte pour s’y établir, et qu’il leur enseigne la manière de servir le dieu du pays.
28 So one of the Priestes, which they had caryed from Samaria, came and dwelt in Beth-el, and taught them how they shoulde feare the Lord.
Un des prêtres qui avaient été emmenés captifs de Samarie vint s’établir à Béthel, et leur enseigna comment ils devaient craindre l’Éternel.
29 Howbeit euery nation made their gods, and put them in the houses of the hie places, which the Samaritanes had made, euery nation in their cities, wherein they dwelt.
Mais les nations firent chacune leurs dieux dans les villes qu’elles habitaient, et les placèrent dans les maisons des hauts lieux bâties par les Samaritains.
30 For the men of Babel made Succoth-Benoth: and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,
Les gens de Babylone firent Succoth-Benoth, les gens de Cuth firent Nergal, les gens de Hamath firent Aschima,
31 And the Auims made Nibhaz, and Tartak: and the Sepharuims burnt their children in the fire to Adrammelech, and Anammelech the gods of Sepharuaim.
ceux d’Avva firent Nibchaz et Tharthak; ceux de Sepharvaïm brûlaient leurs enfants par le feu en l’honneur d’Adrammélec et d’Anammélec, dieux de Sepharvaïm.
32 Thus they feared the Lord, and appoynted out Priestes out of them selues for the hie places, who prepared for them sacrifices in the houses of the hie places.
Ils craignaient aussi l’Éternel, et ils se créèrent des prêtres des hauts lieux pris parmi tout le peuple: ces prêtres offraient pour eux des sacrifices dans les maisons des hauts lieux.
33 They feared the Lord, but serued their gods after the maner of the nations whome they caryed thence.
Ainsi ils craignaient l’Éternel, et ils servaient en même temps leurs dieux d’après la coutume des nations d’où on les avait transportés.
34 Vnto this day they doe after the olde maner: they neyther feare God, neyther doe after their ordinances, nor after their customes, nor after the Lawe, nor after the commandement, which the Lord commanded the children of Iaakob, whom he named Israel,
Ils suivent encore aujourd’hui leurs premiers usages: ils ne craignent point l’Éternel, et ils ne se conforment ni à leurs lois et à leurs ordonnances, ni à la loi et aux commandements prescrits par l’Éternel aux enfants de Jacob qu’il appela du nom d’Israël.
35 And with whom the Lord had made a couenant, and charged them, saying, Feare none other gods, nor bowe your selues to them, nor serue them, nor sacrifice to them:
L’Éternel avait fait alliance avec eux, et leur avait donné cet ordre: Vous ne craindrez point d’autres dieux; vous ne vous prosternerez point devant eux, vous ne les servirez point, et vous ne leur offrirez point de sacrifices.
36 But feare the Lord which brought you out of the land of Egypt with great power, and a stretched out arme: him feare ye, and worshippe him, and sacrifice to him.
Mais vous craindrez l’Éternel, qui vous a fait monter du pays d’Égypte avec une grande puissance et à bras étendu; c’est devant lui que vous vous prosternerez, et c’est à lui que vous offrirez des sacrifices.
37 Also keepe ye diligently the statutes and the ordinances, and the Lawe, and the commandement, which he wrote for you, that ye do them continually, and feare not other gods.
Vous observerez et mettrez toujours en pratique les préceptes, les ordonnances, la loi et les commandements, qu’il a écrits pour vous, et vous ne craindrez point d’autres dieux.
38 And forget not the couenant that I haue made with you, neither feare ye other gods,
Vous n’oublierez pas l’alliance que j’ai faite avec vous, et vous ne craindrez point d’autres dieux.
39 But feare the Lord your God, and he will deliuer you out of the handes of all your enemies.
Mais vous craindrez l’Éternel, votre Dieu; et il vous délivrera de la main de tous vos ennemis.
40 Howbeit they obeyed not, but did after their olde custome.
Et ils n’ont point obéi, et ils ont suivi leurs premiers usages.
41 So these nations feared the Lord, and serued their images also: so did their children, and their childrens children: as did their fathers, so do they vnto this day.
Ces nations craignaient l’Éternel et servaient leurs images; et leurs enfants et les enfants de leurs enfants font jusqu’à ce jour ce que leurs pères ont fait.
