2 Kings 11
1 Then Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah when she saw that her sonne was dead, she arose, and destroyed all the Kings seede.
Athalie, mère d’Ochozias, voyant que son fils était mort, se leva et fit périr toute la race royale.
2 But Iehosheba the daughter of King Ioram, and sister to Ahaziah tooke Ioash the sonne of Ahaziah, and stale him from among the Kings sonnes that shoulde be slaine, both him and his nource, keeping them in the bed chaber, and they hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not slaine.
Mais Josaba, fille du roi Joram et sœur d’Ochozias, prit Joas, fils d’Ochozias, et l’enleva du milieu des fils du roi que l’on massacrait; elle le mit avec sa nourrice dans la chambre des lits. On le déroba ainsi aux regards d’Athalie, et il ne fut pas mis à mort.
3 And he was with her hid in the house of the Lord sixe yeere: and Athaliah did reigne ouer the land.
Il resta six ans caché avec Joschéba dans la maison de Yahweh; et ce fut Athalie qui régna sur le pays.
4 And the seuenth yeere Iehoiada sent and tooke the captaines ouer hundreths, with other captaines and them of the garde, and caused them to come vnto him into the house of the Lord, and made a couenant with them, and tooke an othe of them in the house of the Lord, and shewed them the Kings sonne.
La septième année, Joïada envoya chercher les centurions des Cariens et des coureurs, et il les fit venir auprès de lui dans la maison de Yahweh. Il conclut une alliance avec eux et, après leur avoir fait prêter serment dans la maison de Yahweh, il leur montra le fils du roi.
5 And he commanded them, saying, This is it that ye must doe, The third part of you, that commeth on the Sabbath, shall warde towarde the Kings house:
Puis il leur donna ses ordres, en disant: « Voici ce que vous ferez: Le tiers d’entre vous qui entre en service le jour du sabbat, pour monter la garde à la maison du roi,
6 And another third part in the gate of Sur: and another thirde part in the gate behinde them of the garde: and ye shall keepe watche in the house of Massah.
— le tiers à la porte de Sur, et le tiers à la porte des coureurs, — vous ferez la garde à la maison de Yahweh pour en interdire l’entrée.
7 And two parts of you, that is, all that goe out on the Sabbath day, shall keepe the watch of the house of the Lord about the King.
Et vos deux autres divisions, tous ceux qui sortent de service le jour du sabbat, pour monter la garde à la maison de Yahweh auprès du roi,
8 And ye shall compasse the King rounde about, euery man with his weapon in his hande, and whosoeuer commeth within the ranges, let him be slayne: be you with the King, as he goeth out and in.
vous entourerez le roi de toutes parts, chacun les armes à la main; si quelqu’un entre dans les rangs, qu’on le mette à mort; et vous serez près du roi quand il sortira et quand il entrera. »
9 And the captaines of the hundreths did according to all that Iehoiada the Priest commaded, and they tooke euery man his men that entred in to their charge on the Sabbath with them that went out of it on the Sabbath, and came to Iehoiada the Priest.
Les centurions agirent selon tout ce qu’avait ordonné le prêtre Joïada. Ayant pris chacun leurs gens, ceux qui entraient en service le jour du sabbat et ceux qui sortaient de service le jour du sabbat, ils se rendirent auprès du prêtre Joïada.
10 And the Priest gaue to the captaines of hundreths the speares and the shieldes that were King Dauids, and were in the house of the Lord.
Le prêtre remit aux centurions les lances et les boucliers qui avaient appartenu au roi David, et qui se trouvaient dans la maison de Yahweh.
11 And the garde stoode, euery man with his weapon in his hande, from the right side of the house to the left side, about the altar and about the house, round about the King.
Les coureurs, chacun les armes à la main, se tinrent depuis le côté droit de la maison jusqu’au côté gauche de la maison, près de l’autel et près de la maison, de manière à entourer le roi.
12 Then he brought out the Kings sonne, and put the crowne vpon him and gaue him the Testimonie, and they made him King: also they anoynted him, and clapt their handes, and sayde, God saue the King.
Et le prêtre fit avancer le fils du roi, et il mit sur lui le diadème et le témoignage. Ils l’établirent roi et l’oignirent, et, frappant des mains, ils dirent: « Vive le roi! »
13 And when Athaliah heard the noyse of the running of the people, shee came in to the people in the house of the Lord.
Lorsque Athalie entendit le bruit des coureurs et du peuple, elle vint vers le peuple, à la maison de Yahweh.
14 And when shee looked, beholde, the King stoode by a pillar, as the maner was, and the princes and the trumpetters by the King, and al the people of the land reioyced, and blew with trumpets. Then Athaliah rent her clothes, and cryed, Treason, treason.
Elle regarda, et voici que le roi se tenait sur l’estrade, selon l’usage; près du roi, étaient les chefs et les trompettes, et tout le peuple du pays était dans la joie, et l’on sonnait des trompettes. Athalie déchira ses vêtements et cria: « Conspiration! Conspiration! »
15 But Iehoiada the Priest commanded the captaines of the hundreths that had the rule of the hoste, and sayde vnto them, Haue her forth of the ranges, and he that followeth her, let him die by the sworde: for the Priest had sayd, Let her not be slaine in the house of the Lord.
Alors le prêtre Joïada donna un ordre aux centurions qui étaient à la tête de l’armée et leur dit: « Faites-la sortir de la maison entre les rangs, et tuez par l’épée quiconque la suivra. » Car le prêtre avait dit: « Qu’elle ne soit pas mise à mort dans la maison de Yahweh. »
16 Then they laid hands on her, and she went by the way, by the which the horses goe to the house of the King, and there was she slaine.
On lui fit place des deux côtés, et elle se rendit par le chemin de l’entrée des chevaux, vers la maison du roi, et c’est là qu’elle fut tuée.
17 And Iehoiada made a couenant betweene the Lord, and the King and the people, that they should be the Lordes people: likewise betweene the King and the people.
Joïada conclut, entre Yahweh, le roi et le peuple, l’alliance par laquelle ils devaient être le peuple de Yahweh; il fit aussi l’alliance entre le roi et le peuple.
18 Then all the people of the lande went into the house of Baal, and destroyed it with his altars, and his images brake they downe courageously, and slewe Mattan the Priest of Baal before the altars: and the Priest set a garde ouer the house of the Lord.
Et tout le peuple du pays entra dans la maison de Baal, et ils la démolirent; ils brisèrent entièrement ses autels et ses images, et ils tuèrent devant les autels Mathan, prêtre de Baal. Après avoir mis des gardiens dans la maison de Yahweh,
19 Then he tooke the captaines of hudreths, and the other captaines, and the garde, and all the people of the lande: and they brought the King from the house of the Lord, and came by the way of the gate of the garde to the Kings house: and he sate him downe on the throne of the Kings.
le prêtre Joïada prit les centurions, les Cariens et les coureurs, et tout le peuple du pays, et ils firent descendre le roi de la maison de Yahweh, et ils entrèrent dans la maison du roi par la porte des coureurs; et Joas s’assit sur le trône des rois.
20 And all the people of the land reioyced, and the citie was in quiet: for they had slaine Athaliah with the sworde beside the Kings house.
Tout le peuple du pays se réjouit, et la ville fut tranquille; et l’on fit mourir Athalie par l’épée dans la maison du roi.
21 Seuen yeere olde was Iehoash when he began to reigne.
Joas avait sept ans lorsqu’il devint roi.
