2 Kings 10

1 Ahab had nowe seuentie sonnes in Samaria. And Iehu wrote letters, and sent to Samaria vnto the rulers of Izreel, and to the Elders, and to the bringers vp of Ahabs children, to this effect,

Akab hadde sytti sønner i Samaria; og Jehu skrev brever og sendte dem til Samaria, til de øverste i Jisre'el, de eldste, og til de formyndere som Akab hadde innsatt for sine sønner; i brevene stod det:

2 Nowe when this letter commeth to you, (for ye haue with you your masters sonnes, yee haue with you both charets and horses, and a defenced citie, and armour)

Når nu dette brev kommer til eder, I som har eders herres sønner hos eder, og som råder over vognene og hestene og en fast by og våbnene,

3 Consider therefore which of your masters sonnes is best and most meete, and set him on his fathers throne, and fight for your masters house.

så utse eder den beste og mest skikkede blandt eders herres sønner og sett ham på hans fars trone og strid for eders herres hus!

4 But they were exceedingly afraid, and saide, Behold two Kings coulde not stande before him, how shall we then stand?

Men de blev meget forferdet og sa: De to konger holdt ikke stand mot ham; hvorledes skulde da vi kunne det?

5 And he that was gouernour of Ahabs house, and he that ruled the citie, and the Elders, and the bringers vp of the children sent to Iehu, saying, We are thy seruants, and will doe all that thou shalt bid vs: we will make no King: do what seemeth good to thee.

Så sendte slottshøvdingen og høvdingen over byen og de eldste og formynderne bud til Jehu og lot si: Vi er dine tjenere, og alt hvad du sier til oss, vil vi gjøre; vi vil ikke gjøre nogen til konge; gjør du hvad du finner for godt!

6 Then he wrote another letter to them, saying, If ye be mine, and wil obey my voyce, take the heads of ye men that are your masters sonnes, and come to me to Izreel by to morowe this time. (Nowe the Kings sonnes, euen seuentie persons were with the great men of the citie, which brought them vp)

Da skrev han atter et brev til dem, og i det stod det: Dersom I holder med mig og vil lyde mitt bud, så hugg hodet av eders herres sønner og kom til mig i Jisre'el imorgen ved denne tid! Men kongens sønner, sytti i tallet, bodde hos de store i byen, som opfostret dem.

7 And when the letter came to them, they tooke the Kings sonnes, and slewe the seuentie persons, and layde their heads in baskets, and sent them vnto him to Izreel.

Da nu brevet kom til dem, tok de kongens sønner og drepte dem, sytti i tallet, og la deres hoder i kurver og sendte dem til ham i Jisre'el.

8 Then there came a messenger and tolde him, saying, They haue brought the heads of the Kings sonnes. And he sayd, Let them lay them on two heapes at the entring in of the gate vntil the morning.

Da budet kom og meldte ham at de var kommet med kongesønnenes hoder, sa han: Legg dem i to hauger foran inngangen til porten til imorgen!

9 And when it was day, he went out, and stood and sayd to all the people, Ye be righteous: behold, I conspired against my master, and slew him: but who slew all these?

Og om morgenen gikk han ut og trådte frem og sa til alt folket: I er uten skyld! Det er jeg som har fått i stand en sammensvergelse mot min herre og drept ham; men hvem har slått alle disse ihjel?

10 Knowe nowe that there shall fall vnto the earth nothing of the word of the Lord, which the Lord spake concerning the house of Ahab: for the Lord hath brought to passe the things that hee spake by his seruant Eliiah.

Nu ser I at ikke noget av det som Herren har talt mot Akabs hus, faller til jorden; men Herren har gjort det som han talte gjennem sin tjener Elias.

11 So Iehu slew al that remained of the house of Ahab in Izreel, and all that were great with him, and his familiars and his priestes, so that he let none of his remaine.

Så slo Jehu ihjel alle som var tilbake av Akabs hus i Jisre'el, og alle hans stormenn og hans kjenninger og hans prester; han lot ikke nogen bli i live eller slippe unda.

12 And he arose, and departed and came to Samaria. And as Iehu was in the way by an house where the shepheards did shere,

Siden gjorde Jehu sig rede og drog avsted til Samaria. Og da han underveis kom til Bet-Eked-Haro'im,

13 He met with the brethre of Ahaziah king of Iudah, and sayd, Who are ye? And they answered, We are the brethren of Ahaziah, and goe downe to salute the children of the King and the children of the Queene.

møtte han Judas konge Akasjas brødre. Han spurte dem: Hvem er I? De svarte: Vi er brødre av Akasja og er på vei ned for å hilse på kongens barn og dronningens barn.

14 And he sayde, Take them aliue. And they tooke them aliue, and slew them at the well beside the house where the sheepe are shorne, euen two and fourtie men, and he left not one of them.

Da sa han: Grip dem levende! Så grep de dem levende og drepte dem ved brønnen i Bet-Eked, to og firti i tallet; han lot ikke en av dem bli i live.

15 And when he was departed thence, hee met with Iehonadab the sonne of Rechab comming to meete him, and he blessed him, and sayde to him, Is thine heart vpright, as mine heart is towarde thine? And Iehonadab answered, Yea, doubtlesse. Then giue me thine hande. And when he had giuen him his hande, he tooke him vp to him into the charet.

Da han så drog derfra, traff han på Jonadab, Rekabs sønn, som kom ham i møte, og han hilste på ham og sa til ham: Mener du det like så opriktig med mig som jeg med dig? Jonadab svarte: Ja. Er det så sa Jehu, da gi mig din hånd! Da gav han ham hånden; og han lot ham stige op til sig i vognen.

16 And he sayde, Come with me, and see the zeale that I haue for the Lord: so they made him ride in his charet.

Og han sa: Følg med mig og se hvor nidkjær jeg er for Herren! Så lot han ham kjøre på sin vogn.

17 And when he came to Samaria, he slew all that remained vnto Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the worde of the Lord, which he spake to Eliiah.

Og da han kom til Samaria, slo han ihjel alle som var tilbake av Akabs hus i Samaria, til han hadde utryddet det, efter det ord som Herren hadde talt til Elias.

18 Then Iehu assembled all the people, and sayd vnto them, Ahab serued Baal a litle, but Iehu shall serue him much more.

Siden samlet Jehu alt folket og sa til dem: Akab har dyrket Ba'al lite, Jehu vil dyrke ham meget.

19 Now therefore call vnto me all ye prophets of Baal, all his seruants, and all his priests, and let not a man be lacking: for I haue a great sacrifice for Baal: whosoeuer is lacking, he shall not liue. But Iehu did it by a subtiltie to destroy ye seruats of Baal.

Så kall nu alle Ba'als profeter, alle hans tjenere og alle hans prester hit til mig, ikke en må mangle! For jeg vil holde en stor slaktofferfest for Ba'al; hver den som ikke møter, skal late livet. Men dette gjorde Jehu med svik for å utrydde Ba'als tjenere.

20 And Iehu sayd, Proclaime a solemne assemblie for Baal. And they proclaimed it.

Så sa Jehu: Hold en hellig festforsamling for Ba'al! Da utropte de en sådan fest.

21 So Iehu sent vnto all Israel, and all the seruants of Baal came, and there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of Baal, and the house of Baal was full from ende to ende.

Og Jehu sendte bud omkring i hele Israel, og alle Ba'als tjenere kom; det var ikke nogen som lot være å komme. Og de gikk inn i Ba'als hus, og Ba'als hus blev fullt fra ende til annen.

22 Then he said vnto him that had the charge of the vestrie, Bring forth vestments for al the seruants of Baal. And he brought the out vestments.

Så sa han til den som hadde tilsyn med klædekammeret: Hent frem klædninger for alle Ba'als tjenere! Og han hentet klædningene frem til dem.

23 And when Iehu went, and Iehonadab the sonne of Rechab into the house of Baal, he sayde vnto the seruants of Baal, Searche diligently, and looke, lest there be here with you any of the seruants of the Lord, but the seruants of Baal only.

Da nu Jehu sammen med Jonadab, Rekabs sønn, kom til Ba'als hus, sa han til Ba'als tjenere: Se nøie efter at det ikke er nogen av Herrens tjenere her iblandt eder, men bare Ba'als-tjenere!

24 And when they went in to make sacrifice and burnt offering, Iehu appoynted foure score men without, and sayd, If any of the men whome I haue brought into your hands, escape, his soule shalbe for his soule.

Så gikk de inn for å ofre slaktoffer og brennoffer, og Jehu stilte åtti mann utenfor huset og sa: Hvis nogen slipper unda av de menn som jeg overgir i eders hender, skal det bøtes liv for liv.

25 And when hee had made an ende of the burnt offring, Iehu sayde to the garde, and to the captaines, Goe in, slay them, let not a man come out. And they smote them with the edge of the sworde. And the garde, and the captaines cast them out, and went vnto the citie, where was the temple of Baal.

Da de var ferdig med å ofre brennofferet, sa Jehu til drabantene og livvakten: Gå inn, slå dem ihjel, la ikke en slippe ut! Så slo de dem med sverdets egg, og drabantene og livvakten kastet dem ut og gikk til Ba'als-husets by.

26 And they brought out the images of the temple of Baal, and burnt them.

Og de bar ut støttene i Ba'als hus og brente dem op,

27 And they destroyed the image of Baal, and threwe downe the house of Baal, and made a iakes of it vnto this day.

og Ba'als egen støtte rev de ned; og Ba'als hus rev de ned og gjorde det til vannhuser, som er der den dag idag.

28 So Iehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.

Således utryddet Jehu Ba'al av Israel.

29 But from the sinnes of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat which made Israel to sinne, Iehu departed not from them, neither from the golden calues that were in Beth-el and that were in Dan.

Men fra Jeroboams, Nebats sønns synder, som han hadde fått Israel til å gjøre, vek Jehu ikke - fra gullkalvene i Betel og Dan.

30 And the Lord sayde vnto Iehu, Because thou hast diligently executed that which was right in mine eyes, and hast done vnto the house of Ahab according to all things that were in mine heart, therefore shall thy sonnes vnto the fourth generation sit on the throne of Israel.

Herren sa til Jehu: Fordi du har gjort til gagns hvad rett var i mine øine, og gjort mot Akabs hus alt det jeg vilde, så skal dine sønner til fjerde ledd sitte på Israels trone.

31 But Iehu regarded not to walke in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart: for hee departed not from the sinnes of Ieroboam, which made Israel to sinne.

Men Jehu gav ikke akt på å vandre i Herrens, Israels Guds lov av alt sitt hjerte; han vek ikke fra Jeroboams synder, som han hadde fått Israel til å gjøre.

32 In those dayes the Lord began to lothe Israel, and Hazael smote them in all the coastes of Israel,

Ved denne tid begynte Herren å løsrive stykker av Israel; Hasael slo dem på hele Israels grense

33 From Iorden Eastward, euen all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and them that were of Manasseh, from Aroer (which is by the riuer Arnon) and Gilead and Bashan.

og tok på østsiden av Jordan hele Gileads land, gadittene og rubenittene og manassittene, like fra Aroer ved Arnon-åen, både Gilead og Basan.

34 Concerning the rest of the actes of Iehu, and all that he did, and all his valiant deedes, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

Hvad som ellers er å fortelle om Jehu, om alt det han gjorde og alle hans store gjerninger, det er opskrevet i Israels kongers krønike.

35 And Iehu slept with his fathers, and they buryed him in Samaria, and Iehoahaz his sonne reigned in his stead.

Og Jehu la sig til hvile hos sine fedre, og han blev begravet i Samaria; og hans sønn Joakas blev konge i hans sted.

36 And the time that Iehu reigned ouer Israel in Samaria is eight and twentie yeeres.

Den tid Jehu var konge over Israel i Samaria, var åtte og tyve år.
