2 Kings 10
1 Ahab had nowe seuentie sonnes in Samaria. And Iehu wrote letters, and sent to Samaria vnto the rulers of Izreel, and to the Elders, and to the bringers vp of Ahabs children, to this effect,
Il y avait dans Samarie soixante-dix fils d’Achab. Jéhu écrivit une lettre qu’il envoya à Samarie aux chefs de Jezrahel, les anciens, et aux gouverneurs des enfants d’Achab; il y disait:
2 Nowe when this letter commeth to you, (for ye haue with you your masters sonnes, yee haue with you both charets and horses, and a defenced citie, and armour)
« Aussitôt que cette lettre vous sera parvenue, — puisque vous avez avec vous les fils de votre maître, avec vous les chars et les chevaux, une ville forte et les armes, —
3 Consider therefore which of your masters sonnes is best and most meete, and set him on his fathers throne, and fight for your masters house.
voyez lequel des fils de votre maître est le meilleur et convient le mieux, mettez-le sur le trône de son père et combattez pour la maison de votre maître. »
4 But they were exceedingly afraid, and saide, Behold two Kings coulde not stande before him, how shall we then stand?
Ils eurent une très grande peur et ils dirent: « Voici que les deux rois n’ont pu lui résister; comment résisterions-nous? »
5 And he that was gouernour of Ahabs house, and he that ruled the citie, and the Elders, and the bringers vp of the children sent to Iehu, saying, We are thy seruants, and will doe all that thou shalt bid vs: we will make no King: do what seemeth good to thee.
Et le préfet du palais, le commandant de la ville, les anciens et les gouverneurs envoyèrent dire à Jéhu: « Nous sommes tes serviteurs et nous ferons tout ce que tu nous diras; nous n’établirons personne roi; fais ce qui te semblera bon. »
6 Then he wrote another letter to them, saying, If ye be mine, and wil obey my voyce, take the heads of ye men that are your masters sonnes, and come to me to Izreel by to morowe this time. (Nowe the Kings sonnes, euen seuentie persons were with the great men of the citie, which brought them vp)
Jéhu leur écrivit une seconde lettre; il disait: « Si vous êtes pour moi et si vous écoutez ma voix, prenez les têtes des hommes, fils de votre maître, et venez auprès de moi demain, à cette heure, à Jezrahel. » Or, les soixante-dix fils du roi étaient chez les grands de la ville, qui les élevaient.
7 And when the letter came to them, they tooke the Kings sonnes, and slewe the seuentie persons, and layde their heads in baskets, and sent them vnto him to Izreel.
Quand la lettre leur fut parvenue, ils prirent les fils du roi et égorgèrent ces soixante-dix hommes; puis, ayant mis leurs têtes dans des corbeilles, ils les envoyèrent à Jéhu, à Jézrahel.
8 Then there came a messenger and tolde him, saying, They haue brought the heads of the Kings sonnes. And he sayd, Let them lay them on two heapes at the entring in of the gate vntil the morning.
Le messager vint l’en informer, en disant: « Ils ont apporté les têtes des fils du roi. » Et il dit: « Mettez-les en deux tas à l’entrée de la porte jusqu’au matin. »
9 And when it was day, he went out, and stood and sayd to all the people, Ye be righteous: behold, I conspired against my master, and slew him: but who slew all these?
Le matin, il sortit et, se présentant à tout le peuple, il dit: « Vous êtes justes: voici que moi j’ai conspiré contre mon maître, et je l’ai tué; mais qui a frappé tous ceux-ci?
10 Knowe nowe that there shall fall vnto the earth nothing of the word of the Lord, which the Lord spake concerning the house of Ahab: for the Lord hath brought to passe the things that hee spake by his seruant Eliiah.
Sachez donc qu’il ne tombe rien à terre de la parole de Yahweh, de la parole que Yahweh a prononcée sur la maison d’Achab; Yahweh a accompli ce qu’il a déclaré par l’organe de son serviteur Elie. »
11 So Iehu slew al that remained of the house of Ahab in Izreel, and all that were great with him, and his familiars and his priestes, so that he let none of his remaine.
Et Jéhu frappa tous ceux qui restaient de la maison d’Achab à Jezrahel, tous ses grands, ses familiers et ses prêtres, jusqu’à ce qu’il n’en restât plus un seul.
12 And he arose, and departed and came to Samaria. And as Iehu was in the way by an house where the shepheards did shere,
Puis, s’étant levé, il partit pour aller à Samarie. Arrivé à une maison de réunion des bergers, sur le chemin,
13 He met with the brethre of Ahaziah king of Iudah, and sayd, Who are ye? And they answered, We are the brethren of Ahaziah, and goe downe to salute the children of the King and the children of the Queene.
Jéhu trouva les frères d’Ochozias, roi de Juda, et il dit: « Qui êtes-vous? » Ils répondirent: « Nous sommes les frères d’Ochozias, et nous descendons pour saluer les fils du roi et les fils de la reine. »
14 And he sayde, Take them aliue. And they tooke them aliue, and slew them at the well beside the house where the sheepe are shorne, euen two and fourtie men, and he left not one of them.
Jéhu dit: « Saisissez-les vivants. » Et, les ayant saisis vivants, ils les égorgèrent à la citerne de la maison de réunion, au nombre de quarante-deux, sans que Jéhu en laissât échapper un seul.
15 And when he was departed thence, hee met with Iehonadab the sonne of Rechab comming to meete him, and he blessed him, and sayde to him, Is thine heart vpright, as mine heart is towarde thine? And Iehonadab answered, Yea, doubtlesse. Then giue me thine hande. And when he had giuen him his hande, he tooke him vp to him into the charet.
Etant parti de là, il rencontra Jonadab, fils de Réchab, qui venait au-devant de lui. Il le salua et lui dit: « Ton cœur est-il sincère, comme mon cœur l’est envers le tien? » Jonadab répondit: « Il l’est. » Et Jéhu dit: « S’il l’est, donne-moi ta main. » Il lui donna la main, et Jéhu le fit monter auprès de lui, dans le char,
16 And he sayde, Come with me, and see the zeale that I haue for the Lord: so they made him ride in his charet.
en disant: « Viens avec moi, et tu verras mon zèle pour Yahweh. » Il l’emmena ainsi sur son char.
17 And when he came to Samaria, he slew all that remained vnto Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the worde of the Lord, which he spake to Eliiah.
Arrivé à Samarie, Jéhu frappa tous ceux qui restaient à Samarie de la famille d’Achab, et il l’extermina, selon la parole que Yahweh avait dite à Elie.
18 Then Iehu assembled all the people, and sayd vnto them, Ahab serued Baal a litle, but Iehu shall serue him much more.
Jéhu assembla ensuite tout le peuple et leur dit: « Achab a peu servi Baal; Jéhu le servira beaucoup.
19 Now therefore call vnto me all ye prophets of Baal, all his seruants, and all his priests, and let not a man be lacking: for I haue a great sacrifice for Baal: whosoeuer is lacking, he shall not liue. But Iehu did it by a subtiltie to destroy ye seruats of Baal.
Et maintenant, convoquez auprès de moi tous les prophètes de Baal, tous ses serviteurs et tous ses prêtres, sans qu’il en manque un seul, car j’ai un grand sacrifice à offrir à Baal; quiconque manquera ne vivra pas. » Or Jéhu agissait avec ruse, pour faire périr les serviteurs de Baal.
20 And Iehu sayd, Proclaime a solemne assemblie for Baal. And they proclaimed it.
Jéhu dit: « Publiez une assemblée solennelle en l’honneur de Baal »; et ils la publièrent.
21 So Iehu sent vnto all Israel, and all the seruants of Baal came, and there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of Baal, and the house of Baal was full from ende to ende.
Jéhu envoya des messagers dans tout Israël, et tous les serviteurs de Baal vinrent, sans qu’un seul demeurât sans venir; ils entrèrent dans la maison de Baal, et la maison de Baal fut remplie d’un bout à l’autre.
22 Then he said vnto him that had the charge of the vestrie, Bring forth vestments for al the seruants of Baal. And he brought the out vestments.
Jéhu dit à celui qui avait la garde du vestiaire: « Sorts des vêtements pour tous les serviteurs de Baal. » Et cet homme sortit des vêtements pour eux.
23 And when Iehu went, and Iehonadab the sonne of Rechab into the house of Baal, he sayde vnto the seruants of Baal, Searche diligently, and looke, lest there be here with you any of the seruants of the Lord, but the seruants of Baal only.
Alors Jéhu, étant venu à la maison de Baal avec Jonadab, fils de Réchab, dit aux serviteurs de Baal: « Cherchez et regardez afin qu’il n’y ait ici avec nous aucun des serviteurs de Yahweh, mais seulement des serviteurs de Baal. »
24 And when they went in to make sacrifice and burnt offering, Iehu appoynted foure score men without, and sayd, If any of the men whome I haue brought into your hands, escape, his soule shalbe for his soule.
Lorsqu’ils furent entrés pour offrir des sacrifices et des holocaustes, Jéhu posta dehors quatre-vingts hommes, en leur disant: « Si quelqu’un des hommes que je mets entre vos mains s’échappe, la vie de celui qui l’aura laissé échapper paiera pour la sienne. »
25 And when hee had made an ende of the burnt offring, Iehu sayde to the garde, and to the captaines, Goe in, slay them, let not a man come out. And they smote them with the edge of the sworde. And the garde, and the captaines cast them out, and went vnto the citie, where was the temple of Baal.
Aussitôt qu’il eut achevé d’offrir l’holocauste, Jéhu dit aux coureurs et aux officiers: « Entrez, frappez-les, que pas un ne sorte! » Et ils les frappèrent du tranchant de l’épée. Les coureurs et les officiers les jetèrent là, et, pénétrant dans le sanctuaire de la maison de Baal,
26 And they brought out the images of the temple of Baal, and burnt them.
ils tirèrent dehors les stèles de la maison de Baal et les brûlèrent;
27 And they destroyed the image of Baal, and threwe downe the house of Baal, and made a iakes of it vnto this day.
ils mirent en pièces la stèle de Baal; ils renversèrent aussi la maison de Baal et ils en firent un cloaque, qui a subsisté jusqu’à ce jour.
28 So Iehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.
Jéhu extermina Baal du milieu d’Israël.
29 But from the sinnes of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat which made Israel to sinne, Iehu departed not from them, neither from the golden calues that were in Beth-el and that were in Dan.
Mais Jéhu ne se détourna pas des péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, qui avait fait pécher Israël, ni des veaux d’or qui étaient à Béthel et qui étaient à Dan.
30 And the Lord sayde vnto Iehu, Because thou hast diligently executed that which was right in mine eyes, and hast done vnto the house of Ahab according to all things that were in mine heart, therefore shall thy sonnes vnto the fourth generation sit on the throne of Israel.
Yahweh dit à Jéhu: « Parce que tu as bien exécuté ce qui était droit à mes yeux, et que tu as fait à la maison d’Achab tout ce qui était dans mon cœur, tes fils jusqu’à la quatrième génération seront assis sur le trône d’Israël. »
31 But Iehu regarded not to walke in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart: for hee departed not from the sinnes of Ieroboam, which made Israel to sinne.
Mais Jéhu ne prit pas garde à marcher de tout son cœur dans la loi de Yahweh, Dieu d’Israël; il ne se détourna pas des péchés de Jéroboam qui avait fait pécher Israël.
32 In those dayes the Lord began to lothe Israel, and Hazael smote them in all the coastes of Israel,
En ces jours-là, Yahweh commença à retrancher du territoire d’Israël, et Hazaël battit les Israélites sur toute la frontière d’Israël;
33 From Iorden Eastward, euen all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and them that were of Manasseh, from Aroer (which is by the riuer Arnon) and Gilead and Bashan.
depuis le Jourdain, vers le soleil levant, il battit tout le pays de Galaad, les Gadites, les Rubénites, les Manassites, depuis Aroër, qui est sur le torrent de l’Arnon, jusqu’à Galaad et à Basan.
34 Concerning the rest of the actes of Iehu, and all that he did, and all his valiant deedes, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
Le reste des actes de Jéhu, tout ce qu’il a fait et tous ses exploits, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d’Israël?
35 And Iehu slept with his fathers, and they buryed him in Samaria, and Iehoahaz his sonne reigned in his stead.
Et Jéhu se coucha avec ses pères, et on l’enterra à Samarie. Joachaz, son fils, régna à sa place.
36 And the time that Iehu reigned ouer Israel in Samaria is eight and twentie yeeres.
Le temps que régna Jéhu sur Israël, à Samarie, fut de vingt-huit ans.
