2 Chronicles 6

1 Then Salomon sayd, The Lord hath sayde that he would dwell in the darke cloude:

Alors Salomon dit: Le Seigneur a promis qu’il habiterai dans une nuée;

2 And I haue built thee an house to dwell in, an habitation for thee to dwell in for euer.

Et moi j’ai élevé une maison à son nom, afin qu’il y habitât à perpétuité.

3 And the King turned his face, and blessed all the Congregation of Israel (for all the Congregation of Israel stoode there)

Et le roi tourna sa face et bénit toute la multitude d’Israël (car toute la foule était debout et attentive), et il dit:

4 And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who spake with his mouth vnto Dauid my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying,

Béni soit le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël, qui a mis à effet ce qu’il promit à David, mon père, disant:

5 Since the day that I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no citie of al the tribes of Israel to buylde an house, that my Name might be there, neyther chose I any man to be a ruler ouer my people Israel:

Depuis le jour que j’ai retiré mon peuple de la terre d’Égypte, je n’ai point choisi de ville d’entre toutes les tribus d’Israël pour y bâtir une maison à mon nom, et je n’ai choisi aucun autre homme pour qu’il fût chef sur mon peuple Israël;

6 But I haue chosen Ierusalem, that my Name might be there, and haue chosen Dauid to be ouer my people Israel.

Mais j’ai choisi Jérusalem pour que mon nom y soit, et j’ai choisi David pour l’établir sur mon peuple Israël.

7 And it was in the heart of Dauid my father to builde an house vnto the Name of the Lord God of Israel,

Et lorsqu’il fut dans la volonté de David mon père de bâtir une maison au nom du Seigneur Dieu d’Israël,

8 But the Lord sayde to Dauid my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to buylde an house vnto my Name, thou diddest well, that thou wast so minded.

Le Seigneur lui dit: Puisque ta volonté a été de bâtir une maison à mon nom, tu as certainement bien fait d’avoir une pareille volonté;

9 Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house, but thy sonne which shall come out of thy loynes, he shall buylde an house vnto my Name.

Cependant ce ne sera pas toi qui bâtiras la maison; mais ton fils, qui sortira de tes flancs, bâtira lui-même la maison à mon nom.

10 And the Lord hath performed his worde that he spake: and I am risen vp in the roume of Dauid my father, and am set on the throne of Israel as the Lord promised, and haue built an house to the Name of the Lord God of Israel.

Le Seigneur accomplit donc sa parole qu’il avait dite: et moi, je me levai à la place de David, mon père; je me suis assis sur le trône d’Israël comme l’a dit le Seigneur, et j’ai bâti la maison au nom du Seigneur Dieu d’Israël.

11 And I haue set the Arke there, wherein is the couenant of the Lord, that he made with the children of Israel.

J’y ai mis l’arche, dans laquelle est l’alliance du Seigneur qu’il a faite avec les enfants d’Israël.

12 And the King stoode before the altar of the Lord, in the presence of all the Congregation of Israel, and stretched out his hands,

Il se tint donc devant l’autel du Seigneur, en face de toute la multitude d’Israël, et il étendit ses mains;

13 (For Salomon had made a brasen skaffold and set it in the middes of the court, of fiue cubites long, and fiue cubites broade, and three cubites of height, and vpon it he stoode, and kneeled downe vpon his knees before all the Congregation of Israel, and stretched out his hands toward heauen)

Car Salomon avait fait une estrade d’airain, et il l’avait placée au milieu de la basilique: elle avait cinq coudées de longueur, cinq coudées de largeur et trois coudées de hauteur; et il s’y tint debout; puis, les genoux fléchis en face de toute la multitude d’Israël, et les mains levées au ciel,

14 And sayd, O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in heauen nor in earth, which keepest couenant, and mercie vnto thy seruants, that walke before thee with all their heart.

Il dit: Seigneur Dieu d’Israël, il n’est pas un Dieu semblable à vous, dans le ciel et sur la terre; vous qui conservez l’alliance et la miséricorde à vos serviteurs qui marchent devant vous de tout leur cœur;

15 Thou that hast kept with thy seruant Dauid my father, that thou hast promised him: for thou spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as appeareth this day.

Vous qui avez exécuté en faveur de votre serviteur David, mon père, toutes les paroles que vous lui aviez dites, et qui avez mis à effet ce que vous lui aviez promis de bouche, comme le présent temps le prouve.

16 Therefore now Lord God of Israel, keepe with thy seruant Dauid my father, that thou hast promised him, saying, Thou shalt not want a man in my sight, that shall sit vpon the throne of Israel: so that thy sonnes take heede to their wayes, to walke in my Lawe, as thou hast walked before me.

Maintenant donc, Seigneur Dieu d’Israël, accomplissez en faveur de votre serviteur, mon père David, tout ce que vous lui avez promis, disant: Il ne manquera pas devant moi d’homme, sorti de toi, qui soit assis sur le trône d’Israël, pourvu cependant que tes fils gardent leurs voies, et qu’ils marchent dans ma loi, comme toi-même tu as marché devant moi.

17 And now, O Lord God of Israel, let thy worde be verified, which thou spakest vnto thy seruant Dauid.

Et maintenant, Seigneur Dieu d’Israël, qu’elle soit confirmée, la parole que vous avez dite à votre serviteur David.

18 (Is it true in deede that God will dwell with man on earth? beholde, the heauens, and the heauens of heauens are not able to conteine thee: how much more vnable is this house, which I haue buylt?)

Est-il donc croyable que Dieu habite avec les hommes sur la terre? Si le ciel et les cieux des cieux ne vous contiennent point, combien moins cette maison que j’ai bâtie!

19 But haue thou respect to the prayer of thy seruant, and to his supplication, O Lord my God, to heare the crye and prayer which thy seruant prayeth before thee,

Aussi a-t-elle été faite seulement pour que vous considériez, Seigneur mon Dieu, votre serviteur et ses supplications, et que vous écoutiez les prières que répand devant vous votre serviteur;

20 That thine eyes may be open toward this house day and night, euen toward the place, whereof thou hast sayde, that thou wouldest put thy Name there, that thou mayest hearken vnto the prayer, which thy seruant prayeth in this place.

Pour que vous ouvriez les yeux sur cette maison pendant les jours et les nuits, sur ce lieu en lequel vous avez promis que votre nom serait invoqué,

21 Heare thou therefore the supplication of thy seruant, and of thy people Israel, which they pray in this place: and heare thou in the place of thine habitation, euen in heauen, and when thou hearest, be mercifull.

Et que vous exauceriez la demande que votre serviteur vous y adresse; et pour que vous exauciez les prières de votre serviteur et de votre peuple Israël. Quiconque priera en ce lieu, exaucez-le de votre demeure, c’est-à-dire des cieux, et soyez-lui propice.

22 When a man shall sinne against his neighbour, and he laye vpon him an othe to cause him to sweare, and the swearer shall come before thine altar in this house,

Si quelqu’un pèche contre son prochain, et qu’il vienne prêt à jurer contre lui, et qu’il se lie par la malédiction devant l’autel dans cette maison,

23 Then heare thou in heauen, and doe, and iudge thy seruants, in recompensing the wicked to bring his way vpon his head, and in iustifying the righteous, to giue him according to his righteousnes.

Vous écouterez du ciel, et vous jugerez vos serviteurs, de telle sorte que vous rameniez la voie de l’homme inique sur sa propre tête, et que vous vengiez le juste, lui rendant selon sa justice.

24 And when thy people Israel shalbe ouerthrowen before the enemie, because they haue sinned against thee, and turne againe, and confesse thy Name, and pray, and make supplication before thee in this house,

Si le peuple d’Israël est vaincu par ses ennemis (car ils pécheront contre vous), et que, convertis, ils fassent pénitence, invoquent votre nom, et prient en ce lieu,

25 Then heare thou in heauen, and be mercifull vnto the sinne of thy people Israel, and bring them againe vnto the land which thou gauest to them and to their fathers.

Vous l’exaucerez du ciel; pardonnez le péché de votre peuple Israël, et ramenez-les dans la terre que vous leur avez donnée, à eux et à leurs pères.

26 When heauen shall be shut vp, and there shalbe no rayne, because they haue sinned against thee, and shall pray in this place, and confesse thy Name, and turne from their sinne, when thou doest afflict them,

Si, le ciel fermé, il ne tombe point de pluie à cause des péchés du peuple; s’ils prient en ce lieu et qu’ils rendent gloire à votre nom, et se convertissent de leurs péchés, lorsque vous les aurez affligés,

27 Then heare thou in heauen, and pardon the sinne of thy seruants, and of thy people Israel (when thou hast taught them the good way wherein they may walke) and giue rayne vpon thy lande, which thou hast giuen vnto thy people for an inheritance.

Exaucez-les du ciel, Seigneur, et pardonnez les péchés de vos serviteurs et de votre peuple Israël; enseignez-leur la bonne voie par laquelle ils doivent marcher, et donnez de la pluie à la terre que vous avez donnée à votre peuple pour la posséder.

28 When there shalbe famine in the land, when there shalbe pestilence, blasting, or mildew, when there shall be grashopper, or caterpiller, when their enemie shall besiege them in the cities of their land, or any plague or any sickenesse,

S’il se lève sur la terre une famine, une peste, la rouille, l’aridité, la sauterelle et la chenille, et que les ennemis, après avoir ravagé les contrées, assiègent les portes de la ville, et que toute sorte de plaies et d’infirmités nous accable;

29 Then what prayer and supplication so euer shalbe made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, whe euery one shall knowe his owne plague, and his owne disease, and shall stretch forth his hands toward this house,

Si quelqu’un de votre peuple Israël prie, reconnaissant sa plaie et son infirmité, et qu’il étende ses mains en cette maison,

30 Heare thou then in heauen, thy dwelling place, and be merciful, and giue euery man according vnto all his wayes, as thou doest knowe his heart (for thou onely knowest the hearts of the children of men)

Vous l’exaucerez du ciel, c’est-à-dire de votre demeure élevée; soyez propice, et rendez à chacun selon ses voies, que vous savez qu’il a en son cœur (car vous seul vous connaissez les cœurs des enfants des hommes);

31 That they may feare thee, and walke in thy wayes as long as they liue in the land which thou gauest vnto our fathers.

Afin qu’ils vous craignent et qu’ils marchent dans vos voies, pendant tous les jours qu’ils vivent sur la face de la terre que vous avez donnée à nos pères.

32 Moreouer, as touching ye stranger which is not of thy people Israel, who shall come out of a farre countrey for thy great Names sake, and thy mighty hande, and thy stretched out arme: when they shall come and pray in this house,

Même l’étranger qui n’est point de votre peuple Israël, s’il vient d’une terre lointaine à cause de votre grand nom, et à cause de votre main puissante, de votre bras étendu, et qu’il vous adore en ce lieu,

33 Heare thou in heauen thy dwelling place, and doe according to all that the stranger calleth for vnto thee, that all the people of the earth may knowe thy Name, and feare thee like thy people Israel, and that they may knowe, that thy Name is called vpon in this house which I haue built.

Vous l’exaucerez du ciel, votre demeure inébranlable, et vous ferez toutes les choses pour lesquelles cet étranger vous invoquera, afin que tous les peuples de la terre sachent votre nom, et qu’ils vous craignent comme le fait votre peuple Israël, et qu’ils reconnaissent que votre nom a été invoqué sur cette maison que j’ai bâtie.

34 When thy people shall goe out to battell against their enemies, by the way that thou shalt send them, and they pray to thee, in the way towarde this citie, which thou hast chosen, euen toward the house which I haue built to thy Name,

Si votre peuple sort pour la guerre contre ses ennemis, et que dans la voie dans laquelle vous les aurez envoyés, ils vous adorent, tournés vers la voie dans laquelle est cette ville que vous avez choisie, et la maison que j’ai bâtie à votre nom,

35 Then heare thou in heauen their prayer and their supplication, and iudge their cause.

Vous exaucerez du ciel leurs prières et leurs supplications, et veuillez les venger.

36 If they sinne against thee (for there is no man that sinneth not) and thou be angry with them and deliuer them vnto the enemies, and they take them and cary them away captiue vnto a land farre or neere,

Que s’ils pèchent contre vous (car il n’y a point d’homme qui ne pèche), que si vous êtes irrité contre eux, et que vous les livriez à leurs ennemis, et que ceux-ci les emmènent captifs dans une terre lointaine, ou bien qui est proche,

37 If they turne againe to their heart in the lande whither they be caryed in captiues, and turne and pray vnto thee in the lande of their captiuitie, saying, We haue sinned, we haue transgressed and haue done wickedly,

Et que, convertis en leur cœur, dans la terre dans laquelle ils auront été emmenés captifs, ils fassent pénitence, et vous prient dans la terre de leur captivité, disant: Nous avons péché, nous avons fait l’iniquité, et nous avons agi injustement,

38 If they turne againe to thee with all their heart, and with all their soule in the land of their captiuitie, whither they haue caryed them captiues, and pray toward their land, which thou gauest vnto their fathers, and toward the citie which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I haue built for thy Name,

Et qu’ils reviennent à vous en tout leur cœur et en toute leur âme dans la terre de leur captivité, dans laquelle ils ont été emmenés, et qu’ils vous adorent, tournés du côté de la terre que vous avez donnée à leurs pères, de la ville que vous avez choisie, et de la maison que j’ai bâtie à votre nom,

39 Then heare thou in heauen, in the place of thine habitation their prayer and their supplication, and iudge their cause, and be mercifull vnto thy people, which haue sinned against thee.

Vous exaucerez du ciel, c’est-à-dire de votre demeure stable, leurs prières; veuillez faire justice, et pardonner votre peuple, quoique pécheur:

40 Nowe my God, I beseech thee, let thine eyes be open, and thine eares attent vnto the prayer that is made in this place.

Car vous êtes mon Dieu. Que vos yeux soient ouverts, je vous en conjure, et que vos oreilles soient attentives à la prière qui se fait en ce lieu.

41 Nowe therefore arise, O Lord God, to come into thy rest, thou, and the Arke of thy strength: O Lord God, let thy Priestes be clothed with saluation, and let thy Saints reioyce in goodnesse.

Maintenant donc, levez-vous, Seigneur Dieu, pour établir ici votre repos, vous et l’arche de votre puissance; que vos prêtres, Seigneur Dieu, soient revêtus de salut, et que vos saints se réjouissent en vos biens.

42 O Lord God, refuse not the face of thine anoynted: remember the mercies promised to Dauid thy seruant.

Seigneur mon Dieu, ne détournez pas la face de votre christ: souvenez-vous des miséricordes de David, votre serviteur.
