2 Chronicles 34
1 Iosiah was eight yeere olde when hee began to reigne, and he reigned in Ierusalem one and thirtie yeere.
Josias avait huit ans lorsqu’il devint roi, et il régna trente et un an à Jérusalem.
2 And he did vprightly in the sight of ye Lord, and walked in the wayes of Dauid his father, and bowed neither to the right hand nor to the left.
Il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de Yahweh, et il marcha dans les voies de David, son père, et il ne s’en détourna ni à droite ni à gauche.
3 And in the eight yeere of his reigne (when he was yet a childe) he began to seeke after the God of Dauid his father: and in the twelft yeere he began to purge Iudah, and Ierusalem from the hie places, and the groues, and the carued images, and molten images:
La huitième année de son règne, lorsqu’il était encore un adolescent, il commença à rechercher le Dieu de David, son père, et, la douzième année, il commença à purifier Juda et Jérusalem des hauts lieux, des aschérahs, des images sculptées et des images fondues.
4 And they brake downe in his sight the altars of Baalim, and hee caused to cut downe the images that were on hie vpon them: he brake also the groues, and the carued images, and the molten images, and stampt them to pouder, and strowed it vpon the graues of them that had sacrificed vnto them.
On renversa devant lui les autels des Baals, et il abattit les statues consacrées au soleil qui étaient placées dessus; il brisa les aschérahs, les images taillées et les images fondues, et, les ayant réduites en poussière, il répandit cette poussière sur les tombeaux de ceux qui leur avaient offert des sacrifices;
5 Also he burnt the bones of the Priests vpon their altars, and purged Iudah and Ierusalem.
et il brûla les ossements des prêtres sur leurs autels. Et il purifia Juda et Jérusalem.
6 And in the cities of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and Simeon, euen vnto Naphtali, with their maules they brake all round about.
Dans les villes de Manassé, d’Éphraïm, de Siméon et jusqu’en Nephthali, — au milieu de leurs ruines, —
7 And when he had destroyed the altars and the groues, and had broken and stamped to pouder the images, and had cut downe all the idoles throughout all the land of Israel, hee returned to Ierusalem.
il renversa les autels, brisa et réduisit en poussière les aschérahs et les images sculptées, et abattit toutes les statues consacrées au soleil dans tout le pays d’Israël. Puis il retourna à Jérusalem.
8 Then in the eightenth yere of his reigne, when hee had purged the lande and the Temple, he sent Shaphan the sonne of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the gouernour of the citie, and Ioah the sonne of Ioahaz the recorder, to repaire the house of the Lord his God.
La dix-huitième année de son règne, après qu’il eut purifié le pays et la maison de Dieu, il envoya Saphan, fils d’Aslia, Maasias, commandant de la ville, et Joha, fils de Joachaz, l’archiviste, pour réparer la maison de Yahweh, son Dieu.
9 And when they came to Hilkiah the hie Priest, they deliuered ye money that was brought into the house of God, which the Leuites that kept the doore, had gathered at the hand of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and of all the residue of Israel, and of all Iudah and Beniamin, and of the inhabitantes of Ierusalem.
Ils se rendirent auprès d’Helcias, le grand prêtre, et ils livrèrent l’argent qui avait été apporté dans la maison de Dieu, et que les lévites gardiens de la porte avaient recueilli de Manassé et d’Éphraïm, et de tout le reste d’Israël, et de tout Juda et Benjamin et des habitants de Jérusalem.
10 And they put it in the hands of them that should doe the worke and had the ouersight in the house of the Lord: and they gaue it to the workemen that wrought in the house of ye Lord, to repaire and amend the house.
Ils remirent cet argent entre les mains de ceux qui faisaient exécuter l’ouvrage, qui étaient établis surveillants dans la maison de Yahweh, et ceux-ci le donnèrent aux ouvriers qui travaillaient à la maison de Yahweh, pour réparer et consolider la maison.
11 Euen to the workemen and to the builders gaue they it, to bye hewed stone and timber for couples and for beames of the houses, which the Kings of Iudah had destroyed.
Et ils le donnèrent aux charpentiers et aux maçons, et ils l’employèrent à acheter des pierres de taille et du bois pour la charpente, et pour mettre des poutres aux bâtiments qu’avaient détruits les rois de Juda.
12 And the men did the worke faithfully, and the ouerseers of them were Iahath and Obadiah the Leuites, of the children of Merari, and Zechariah, and Meshullam, of the children of the Kohathites to set it forward: and of the Leuites all that could skill of instruments of musike.
Ces hommes travaillaient fidèlement à leur tâche. Ils avaient pour surveillants Jahath et Abdias, lévites d’entre les fils de Mérari, Zacharias et Mosollam, d’entre les fils des Caathites, qui les dirigeaient, ainsi que d’autres lévites qui tous s’entendaient aux instruments de musique.
13 And they were ouer the bearers of burdens, and them that set forwarde all the workemen in euery worke: and of the Leuites were scribes, and officers and porters.
Ceux-ci surveillaient aussi les manœuvres et dirigeaient tous les ouvriers pour chaque travail. Il y avait encore des lévites secrétaires, commissaires et portiers.
14 And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the Lord, Hilkiah the Priest found the booke of the Lawe of the Lord giuen by the hand of Moses.
Au moment où l’on retirait l’argent qui avait été apporté dans la maison de Yahweh, le prêtre Helcias trouva le livre de la loi de Yahweh, donnée par l’organe de Moïse.
15 Therefore Hilkiah answered and sayde to Shaphan the chaceler, I haue found the booke of the Law in the house of the Lord: and Hilkiah gaue the booke to Shaphan.
Alors Helcias, prenant la parole, dit à Saphan, le secrétaire: « J’ai trouvé le livre de la loi dans la maison de Yahweh »; et Helcias donna le livre à Saphan.
16 And Shaphan caried the booke to the King, and brought the King worde againe, saying, All that is committed to the hand of thy seruants, that do they.
Saphan porta le livre au roi, et il rendit aussi compte au roi, en disant: « Tout ce qui a été confié à tes serviteurs, ils l’ont fait:
17 For they haue gathered the money that was found in the house of the Lord, and haue deliuered it into the handes of the ouerseers, and to the handes of the workemen.
ils ont vidé l’argent qui se trouvait dans la maison de Yahweh et l’ont remis entre les mains de ceux qui sont établis surveillants et entre les mains de ceux qui font exécuter l’ouvrage. »
18 Also Shaphan ye chanceler declared to the King, saying, Hilkiah the Priest hath giuen mee a booke, and Shaphan read it before the King.
Saphan, le secrétaire, fit encore au roi cette communication: « Le prêtre Helcias m’a donné un livre. » Et Saphan lut dans ce livre devant le roi.
19 And when the King had heard the wordes of the Lawe, he tare his clothes.
Lorsque le roi eut entendu les paroles de la loi, il déchira ses vêtements,
20 And the King commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan, and Abdon the sonne of Micah, and Shaphan the chanceler, and Asaiah the Kings seruant, saying,
et il donna cet ordre à Helcias, à Ahicam, fils de Saphan, à Abdon, fils de Micha, à Saphan, le secrétaire, et à Asaa, serviteur du roi:
21 Goe and enquire of the Lord for me, and for the rest in Israel and Iudah, concerning the wordes of this booke that is founde: for great is the wrath of the Lord that is fallen vpon vs, because our fathers haue not kept the worde of the Lord, to doe after all that is written in this booke.
« Allez consulter Yahweh pour moi et pour ce qui reste en Israël et en Juda, au sujet des paroles du livre qu’on a trouvé; car grande est la colère de Yahweh qui s’est répandue sur nous, parce que nos pères n’ont pas observé la parole de Yahweh, en agissant selon tout ce qui est écrit dans ce livre. »
22 Then Hilkiah and they that the King had appoynted, went to Huldah the Prophetesse ye wife of Shallum, the sonne of Tokhath, the sonne of Hasrah keeper of the wardrobe (and she dwelt in Ierusalem within the colledge) and they communed hereof with her.
Helcias et ceux que le roi avait désignés se rendirent auprès de la prophétesse Holda, femme de Sellum, fils de Thecuath, fils de Hasra, gardien des vêtements; elle habitait à Jérusalem, dans le second quartier. Lorsqu’ils lui eurent parlé selon leur mission,
23 And shee answered them, Thus sayth the Lord God of Israel, Tell yee the man that sent you to me,
elle leur dit: « Ainsi dit Yahweh, Dieu d’Israël: Dites à l’homme qui vous a envoyés vers moi:
24 Thus saith the Lord, Beholde, I will bring euill vpon this place, and vpon the inhabitantes thereof, euen all the curses, that are written in the booke which they haue read before the King of Iudah:
Ainsi dit Yahweh: Voici que je vais faire venir des malheurs sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants, toutes les malédictions écrites dans le livre qu’on a lu devant le roi de Juda.
25 Because they haue forsaken me, and burnt incense vnto other gods, to anger mee with al the workes of their hands, therefore shall my wrath fall vpon this place, and shall not be quenched.
Parce qu’ils m’ont abandonné et qu’ils ont offert des parfums à d’autres dieux, de manière à m’irriter par tous les ouvrages de leurs mains, ma colère s’est répandue sur ce lieu, et elle ne s’éteindra point.
26 But to the King of Iudah, who sent you to enquire of the Lord, so shall ye say vnto him, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The words which thou hast heard, shall come to passe.
Et vous direz au roi de Juda qui vous a envoyés pour consulter Yahweh: Ainsi dit Yahweh, Dieu d’Israël: Quant aux paroles que tu as entendues,
27 But because thine heart did melt, and thou didest humble thy selfe before God, when thou heardest his wordes against this place and against the inhabitantes thereof, and humbledst thy selfe before mee and tarest thy clothes, and weptest before mee, I haue also heard it, sayth the Lord.
parce que ton cœur s’est repenti, et que tu t’es humilié devant Dieu en entendant ces paroles contre ce lieu et contre ses habitant; parce que, en t’humiliant devant moi, tu as déchiré tes vêtements et pleuré devant moi, moi aussi je t’ai entendu, oracle de Yahweh.
28 Beholde, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt bee put in thy graue in peace, and thine eyes shall not see all the euill, which I will bring vpon this place, and vpon the inhabitants of the same. Thus they brought ye King word againe.
Voici que je te recueillerai auprès de tes pères, tu seras recueilli en paix dans ton sépulcre, et tes yeux ne verront pas tous les malheurs que je ferai venir sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants. » Ils rapportèrent au roi cette réponse.
29 Then the King sent and gathered all the Elders of Iudah and Ierusalem.
Le roi envoya rassembler tous les anciens de Juda et de Jérusalem.
30 And the King went vp into the house of the Lord, and all the men of Iudah, and the inhabitants of Ierusalem, and the Priests and the Leuites, and all the people from the greatest to the smallest, and hee read in their eares all the wordes of the booke of the couenant that was found in the house of the Lord.
Et le roi monta à la maison de Yahweh avec tous les hommes de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem, les prêtres, les lévites et tout le peuple, depuis le plus grand jusqu’au plus petit, et il lut devant eux toutes les paroles du livre de l’alliance qu’on avait trouvé dans la maison de Yahweh.
31 And the King stood by his pillar, and made a couenant before the Lord, to walke after the Lord, and to keepe his commandements, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soule, and that he would accomplish the wordes of the couenant written in the same booke.
Le roi, se tenant sur son estrade, conclut l’alliance devant Yahweh, s’engageant à suivre Yahweh, et à observer ses préceptes, ses ordonnances et ses lois de tout son cœur et de toute son âme, en mettant en pratique les paroles de l’alliance qui sont écrites dans ce livre.
32 And he caused all that were found in Ierusalem, and Beniamin to stande to it: and the inhabitants of Ierusalem did according to the couenant of God, euen the God of their fathers.
Et il fit acquiescer à l’ alliance tous ceux qui se trouvaient à Jérusalem et en Benjamin; et les habitants de Jérusalem agirent selon l’alliance de Dieu, du Dieu de leurs pères.
33 So Iosiah tooke away al the abominations out of all the countreis that perteined to the children of Israel, and compelled all that were found in Israel, to serue the Lord their God: so all his dayes they turned not backe from the Lord God of their fathers.
