2 Chronicles 25
1 Amaziah was fiue and twentie yere old when he began to reigne, and he reigned nine and twentie yeere in Ierusalem: and his mothers name was Iehoaddan, of Ierusalem.
Fünfundzwanzig Jahre alt wurde Amazja König und neunundzwanzig Jahre regierte er zu Jerusalem. Seine Mutter aber hieß Joaddan und stammte aus Jerusalem.
2 And he did vprightly in the eyes of the Lord, but not with a perfite heart.
Und er that, was Jahwe wohlgefiel, jedoch nicht mit ungeteiltem Herzen.
3 And when the kingdome was established vnto him, he slewe his seruants, that had slaine the King his father.
Sobald er aber im Besitze der königlichen Macht war, ließ er seine Diener, die den König, seinen Vater, erschlagen hatten, töten.
4 But he slewe not their children, but did as it is written in the Lawe, and in the booke of Moses, where the Lord commanded, saying, The fathers shall not dye for the children, neyther shall the children die for the fathers, but euery man shall dye for his owne sinne.
Ihre Kinder ließ er jedoch nicht hinrichten, sondern verfuhr nach dem Gebote Jahwes, das im Gesetz, im Buche Moses, geschrieben steht und so lautet: Es sollen nicht Väter um der Kinder willen und Kinder um der Väter willen sterben, sondern sollen ein jeder nur wegen seines eigenen Vergehens getötet werden dürfen.
5 And Amaziah assembled Iudah, and made them captaines ouer thousandes, and captaines ouer hundreths, according to the houses of their fathers, thorowout all Iudah and Beniamin: and he nombred them from twentie yeere olde and aboue, and founde among them three hundreth thousand chosen men, to goe foorth to the warre, and to handle speare and shield.
Und Amazja versammelte die Judäer und stellte sie familienweise auf, nach den Obersten über die Tausendschaften und den Obersten über die Hundertschaften von ganz Juda und Benjamin. Sodann musterte er sie von den Zwanzigjährigen an und darüber und fand, daß es 300000 auserlesene, Speer und Schild führende Krieger waren.
6 He hyred also an hundreth thousand valiant men out of Israel for an hundreth talents of siluer.
Dazu dingte er aus Israel für hundert Talente Silbers 100000 tapfere Männer.
7 But a man of God came to him, saying, O King, let not the armie of Israel goe with thee: for the Lord is not with Israel, neither with all the house of Ephraim.
Aber ein Mann Gottes kam zu ihm und sprach: O König! Das israelitische Heer darf nicht mir dir ziehen; denn Jahwe ist nicht mit Israel, mit allen Ephraimiten.
8 If not, goe thou on, doe it, make thy selfe strong to the battel, but God shall make thee fall before the enemie: for God hath power to helpe, and to cast downe.
Vielmehr ziehe du allein, gehe mutig an den Streit; Gott könnte dich sonst vor dem Feinde zu Falle bringen.
9 And Amaziah sayde to the man of God, What shall we doe then for the hundreth talents, which I haue giuen to the hoste of Israel? Then the man of God answered, The Lord is able to giue thee more then this.
Amazja erwiderte dem Manne Gottes: Was soll aber in betreff der hundert Talente geschehen, die ich der israelitischen Heerschar gegeben habe? Der Mann Gottes erwiderte: Jahwe kann dir weit mehr als das geben!
10 So Amaziah separated them, to wit, the armie that was come to him out of Ephraim, to returne to their place: wherefore their wrath was kindled greatly against Iudah, and they returned to their places with great anger.
Da sondere Amazja die Heerschar, die aus Ephraim zu ihm gekommen war, ab, damit sie wieder heimgingen. Da wurden diese sehr zornig auf die Judäer und kehrten in hellem Zorne heim.
11 Then Amaziah was encouraged, and led forth his people, and went to the salt valley, and smote of the children of Seir, ten thousand.
Amazja aber faßte Mut, führte sein Volk von dannen, zog ins Salzthal und schlug die Seïriten, zehntausend Mann.
12 And other ten thousand did the children of Iudah take aliue, and caryed them to the top of a rocke, and cast them downe from the top of the rocke, and they all burst to pieces.
Zehntausend andere aber nahmen die Judäer lebendig gefangen; die führten sie auf die Spitze des Felsens und stürzten sie von der Spitze des Felsen herab, so daß sie insgesamt zerschellten.
13 But the men of the armie, which Amaziah sent away, that they should not goe with his people to battell, fell vpon the cities of Iudah from Samaria vnto Beth-horon, and smote three thousand of them, and tooke much spoyle.
Die Glieder der Streifschar aber, die Amazja zurückgeschickt hatte, so daß sie nicht mit ihm in den Streit ziehen durfte, die fielen in die Städte der Judäer ein, von Samaria an bis Beth Horon, erschlugen dreitausend von ihnen und machten große Beute.
14 Now after that Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them vp to be his gods, and worshipped them, and burned incense vnto them.
Als aber Amazja nach dem Sieg über die Edomiter heimgekommen war, brachte er die Götter der Seïriten mit und stellte sie sich als Götter auf, und vor ihnen pflegte er fortan anzubeten und ihnen räucherte er.
15 Wherefore the Lord was wroth with Amaziah, and sent vnto him a Prophet, which sayd vnto him, Why hast thou sought the gods of the people, which were not able to deliuer their owne people out of thine hand?
Da entbrannte der Zorn Jahwes wider Amazja, und er sandte einen Propheten zu ihm. Der sprach zu ihm: Warum hältst du dich an die Götter dieses Volks, die ihr eigenes Volk nicht aus deiner Gewalt erretten konnten?
16 And as he talked with him, he said vnto him, Haue they made thee the Kings counseler? cease thou: why should they smite thee? And the Prophet ceased, but said, I knowe that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not obeyed my counsell.
Als er aber so zu ihm redete, sprach jener zu ihm: Haben wir dich zum Ratgeber des Königs bestellt? Höre auf, sonst wird man dich schlagen! Da ließ der Prophet ab und sprach: Ich merke nun, daß Gott beschlossen hat, dich zu verderben, weil du so gehandelt hast und auf meinen Rat nicht hören willst!
17 Then Amaziah King of Iudah tooke counsell, and sent to Ioash the sonne of Iehoahaz, the sonne of Iehu King of Israel, saying, Come, let vs see one another in the face.
Und nachdem sich Amazja, der König von Juda, beraten, sandte er Boten an Joas, den Sohn Joahas', des Sohnes Jehus, den König von Israel, und ließ ihm sagen: Wohlan, wir wollen uns miteinander messen!
18 But Ioash King of Israel sent to Amaziah King of Iudah, saying, The thistle that is in Lebanon, sent to the cedar that is in Lebanon, saying, Giue thy daughter to my sonne to wife: and the wilde beast that was in Lebanon went and trode downe the thistle.
Da ließ Joas, der König von Israel, Amazja, dem Könige von Juda, Folgendes entbieten: Die Distel auf dem Libanon sandte zur Ceder auf dem Libanon und ließ ihr sagen: Gieb deine Tochter meinem Sohne zum Weibe! Aber das Wild auf dem Libanon lief über die Distel und zertrat sie.
19 Thou thinkest: lo, thou hast smitten Edom, and thine heart lifteth thee vp to bragge: abide now at home: why doest thou prouoke to thine hurt, that thou shouldest fall, and Iudah with thee?
Du denkst: Habe ich doch die Edomiter geschlagen! So reißt dich nun dein Hochmut fort, dich zu überheben. Bleibe nur daheim! Warum willst du das Unglück herausfordern, daß du zu Falle kommest und Juda mit dir?
20 But Amaziah would not heare: for it was of God, that he might deliuer them into his had, because they had sought the gods of Edom.
Aber Amazja wollte nicht hören; denn solches war von Gott verhängt, um sie in Feindesgewalt zu überliefern, weil sie sich an die Götter Edoms gehalten hatten.
21 So Ioash the King of Israel went vp: and he, and Amaziah King of Iudah saw one another in the face at Bethshemesh, which is in Iudah.
Da rückte Joas, der König von Israel, heran, und sie maßen sich miteinander, er und Amazja, der König von Juda, zu Bethsemes, welches zu Juda gehört.
22 And Iudah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fled euery man to his tents.
Und die Judäer wurden von den Israeliten geschlagen, so daß ein jeder in seine Heimat floh.
23 But Ioash the King of Israel tooke Amaziah King of Iudah, the sonne of Ioash, the sonne of Iehoahaz in Bethshemesh, and brought him to Ierusalem, and brake downe the wall of Ierusalem, from the gate of Ephraim vnto the corner gate, foure hundreth cubites.
Amazja aber, den König von Juda, den Sohn Jehoas', des Sohnes Jehoahas, nahm Joas, der König von Israel, zu Bethsemes gefangen und brachte ihn nach Jerusalem. Und er legte in die Mauer Jerusalems eine Bresche vom Ephraimthor an bis an das Eckthor, eine Strecke von vierhundert Ellen.
24 And he tooke all the gold and the siluer, and all the vessels that were found in the house of God with Obed Edom, and in the treasures of the Kings house, and the children that were in hostage, and returned to Samaria.
Und er nahm alles Gold und Silber und alle Geräte, die sich im Tempel Gottes bei Obed Edom vorfanden, sowie die Schätze des königlichen Palastes und die Geiseln und kehrte nach Samaria zurück.
25 And Amaziah the sonne of Ioash King of Iudah liued after the death of Ioash sonne of Iehoahaz King of Israel, fifteene yeere.
Amazja aber, der Sohn Jehoas', der König von Juda, lebte nach dem Tode Joas', des Sohnes Joahas', des Königs von Israel, noch fünfzehn Jahre.
26 Concerning the rest of the actes of Amaziah first and last, are they not written in the booke of the Kings of Iudah and Israel?
Die übrige Geschichte Amazjas aber, die frühere und die spätere, findet sich ja aufgezeichnet im Buche der Könige von Juda und Israel.
27 Nowe after the time that Amaziah did turne away from ye Lord, they wrought treason against him in Ierusalem: and when he was fled to Lachish, they sent to Lachish after him, and slewe him there.
Und von der Zeit an, wo Amazja von Jahwe abtrünnig geworden war, zettelten sie zu Jerusalem eine Verschwörung gegen ihn an. Da floh er nach Lachis; aber man sandte hinter ihm drein nach Lachis und ließ ihn daselbst ermorden.
28 And they brought him vpon horses, and buried him with his fathers in the citie of Iudah.
Sodann hob man ihn auf den Wagen und begrub ihn zu Jerusalem bei seinen Vätern in der Stadt Davids.
