2 Chronicles 24

1 Ioash was seuen yere olde, when he began to reigne, and he reigned fourty yeere in Ierusalem: and his mothers name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.

یوآش هفت ساله بود که پادشاه شد و چهل سال در اورشلیم سلطنت کرد. (مادرش ظبیه، از اهالی بئرشبع بود.)

2 And Ioash did vprightly in the sight of the Lord, all the dayes of Iehoiada the Priest.

مادامی که یهویاداع کاهن زنده بود یوآش مطابق میل خداوند رفتار می‌کرد.

3 And Iehoiada tooke him two wiues, and he begate sonnes and daughters.

یهویاداع دو زن برای یوآش گرفت و آنها برای او پسران و دختران به دنیا آوردند.

4 And afterward it came into Ioash mind, to renew the house of the Lord.

سپس یوآش تصمیم گرفت خانهٔ خداوند را تعمیر کند.

5 And he assembled the Priests and the Leuites, and said to them, Goe out vnto the cities of Iudah, and gather of all Israel money to repaire the house of your God, from yeere to yeere, and haste the thing: but the Leuites hasted not.

او کاهنان و لاویان را فرا خواند و این دستور را به ایشان داد: «به تمام شهرهای یهودا بروید و هدایای سالیانه را جمع کنید تا بتوانیم خانهٔ خدا را تعمیر کنیم. هر چه زودتر این کار را انجام دهید.» اما لاویان تأخیر نمودند.

6 Therefore the King called Iehoiada, the chiefe, and said vnto him, Why hast thou not required of the Leuites to bring in out of Iudah and Ierusalem the taxe of Moses the seruant of the Lord, and of the Congregation of Israel, for the Tabernacle of the testimonie?

بنابراین پادشاه، یهویاداع کاهن اعظم را خواست و به او گفت: «چرا از لاویان نخواسته‌ای که بروند و مالیات خانهٔ خدا را که موسی، خدمتگزار خداوند مقرر کرده، از شهرهای یهودا و اورشلیم جمع‌آوری کنند؟»

7 For wicked Athaliah, and her children brake vp the house of God: and all the things that were dedicate for the house of the Lord, did they bestowe vpon Baalim.

(پیروان عتلیای فاسد، خسارات زیادی به خانهٔ خدا وارد کرده بودند و اشیاء مقدّس آن را غارت نموده، آنها را در بتخانهٔ بعل گذاشته بودند.)

8 Therefore the King commanded, and they made a chest, and set it at the gate of the house of the Lord without.

پس پادشاه دستور داد که صندوقی بسازند و آن را بیرون دروازهٔ خانهٔ خداوند بگذارند.

9 And they made proclamation thorow Iudah and Ierusalem, to bring vnto the Lord the taxe of Moses the seruant of God, layde vpon Israel in the wildernesse.

سپس در همهٔ شهرهای یهودا و اورشلیم اعلام نمود که مالیاتی را که موسی برای قوم اسرائیل مقرر کرده، برای خداوند بیاورند.

10 And all the princes and all the people reioyced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, vntill they had finished.

بنابراین، تمام قوم و رهبرانشان با خوشحالی مالیات خود را می‌آوردند و در آن صندوق می‌ریختند تا اینکه پر می‌شد.

11 And when it was time, they brought the chest vnto the Kings officer by the hand of the Leuites: and when they saw that there was much siluer, then the Kings Scribe (and one appoynted by the hie Priest) came and emptied the chest, and tooke it, and caried it to his place againe: thus they did day by day, and gathered siluer in abundance.

سپس لاویان صندوق را به مسئول آن که از دربار بود تحویل می‌دادند. هر وقت پول زیادی جمع می‌شد کاتب و نمایندهٔ کاهن اعظم پولها را از صندوق خارج می‌کردند و صندوق را دوباره به خانهٔ خدا برمی‌گرداندند. این کار هر روز ادامه داشت و مردم مرتب در صندوق پول می‌ریختند.

12 And the King and Iehoiada gaue it to such as did the labour and worke in the house of the Lord, and hyred masons and carpenters to repayre the house of the Lord: they gaue it also to workers of yron and brasse, to repayre the house of the Lord.

پادشاه و یهویاداع پولها را به ناظران کار ساختمانی می‌دادند و ایشان بناها، نجارها و فلزکارها را برای تعمیر خانهٔ خداوند به کار می‌گرفتند.

13 So the workemen wrought, and the worke amended through their hands: and they restored the house of God to his state, and strengthened it.

به این ترتیب، کارگران به تعمیر خانهٔ خدا پرداختند و آن را مستحکم ساخته، به صورت اول درآوردند.

14 And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the siluer before the King and Iehoiada, and he made thereof vessels for the house of the Lord, euen vessels to minister, both morters and incense cuppes, and vessels of golde, and of siluer: and they offred burnt offrings in the house of the Lord continually all the dayes of Iehoiada.

وقتی تعمیرات خانهٔ خدا تمام شد، باقیماندهٔ پول را نزد پادشاه و یهویاداع آوردند و آنها دستور دادند با آن پول، ظروف طلا و نقره و وسایل دیگر برای خانهٔ خداوند درست کنند. در طول عمر یهویاداع کاهن، قربانیهای سوختنی به طور مرتب در خانهٔ خداوند تقدیم می‌شد.

15 But Iehoiada waxed olde, and was ful of dayes and dyed. An hundreth and thirtie yeere olde was he when he dyed.

یهویاداع در کمال پیری، در سن ۱۳۰ سالگی درگذشت

16 And they buried him in the citie of Dauid with the kings, because he had done good in Israel, and toward God and his house.

و در شهر داوود در آرامگاه سلطنتی دفن شد، زیرا در اسرائیل برای خدا و خانهٔ او خدمات ارزنده‌ای انجام داده بود.

17 And after the death of Iehoiada, came the princes of Iudah, and did reuerence to the King, and the King hearkened vnto them.

اما پس از مرگ یهویاداع، بزرگان یهودا نزد یوآش پادشاه آمده، با سخنان خود او را تحریک کردند تا دست از خانهٔ خداوند، خدای اجدادش بکشد و همراه ایشان بت شرم‌آور اشیره و بتهای دیگر را بپرستد. پادشاه سخنان آنها را پذیرفت و از این رو بار دیگر خشم خدا بر یهودا و اورشلیم افروخته شد.

18 And they left the house of the Lord God of their fathers, and serued groues and idoles: and wrath came vpon Iudah and Ierusalem, because of this their trespasse.

19 And God sent Prophets amog the, to bring them againe vnto the Lord: and they made protestation among them, but they would not heare.

خداوند انبیایی فرستاد تا آنها را به سوی خود بازگرداند، ولی مردم اعتنا نکردند.

20 And the Spirit of God came vpon Zechariah the sonne of Iehoiada the Priest, which stoode aboue the people, and sayde vnto them, Thus sayth God, Why transgresse ye the commandements of the Lord? surely ye shall not prosper: because ye haue forsaken the Lord, he also hath forsaken you.

سپس روح خدا بر زکریا، پسر یهویاداع نازل شد. او در مقابل قوم ایستاده، گفت: «خداوند می‌فرماید: چرا از دستورهای من سرپیچی می‌کنید و خود را دچار مصیبت می‌نمایید. شما مرا ترک گفته‌اید، من هم شما را ترک می‌گویم.»

21 Then they conspired against him and stoned him with stones at the commandement of the King, in the court of the house of the Lord.

بزرگان یهودا بر ضد زکریا توطئه چیدند و به دستور یوآش پادشاه، او را در حیاط خانهٔ خداوند سنگسار کرده، کشتند.

22 Thus Ioash the King remembred not the kindnesse which Iehoiada his father had done to him, but slewe his sonne. And when he dyed, he sayd, The Lord looke vpon it, and require it.

پس یوآش خوبی‌های یهویاداع را فراموش کرد و پسرش را کشت. زکریا قبل از مرگش چنین گفت: «خداوند این را ببیند و از شما بازخواست کند.»

23 And when the yeere was out, the host of Aram came vp against him, and they came against Iudah and Ierusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoyle of them vnto the King of Damascus.

چند ماه پس از کشته شدن زکریا، نیروهای سوری، یهودا و اورشلیم را تسخیر کردند و همهٔ سران کشور را کشتند. آنها تمام غنایمی را که به چنگ آوردند برای پادشاه سوریه فرستادند.

24 Though the armie of Aram came with a small company of men, yet the Lord deliuered a very great armie into their hand, because they had forsaken the Lord God of their fathers: and they gaue sentence against Ioash.

برای سپاه کوچک سوریه این یک پیروزی بزرگ محسوب می‌شد. خداوند به آنها اجازه داد سپاه نیرومند یهودا را شکست دهند، زیرا مردم یهودا خداوند، خدای اجدادشان را ترک گفته بودند. به این طریق خدا یوآش پادشاه را مجازات کرد.

25 And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases) his owne seruants conspired against him for the blood of the children of Iehoiada the Priest, and slewe him on his bed, and he dyed, and they buryed him in the citie of Dauid: but they buryed him not in the sepulchres of the Kings.

سوری‌ها یوآش را به شدت مجروح کرده، از آنجا رفتند. در این ضمن دو نفر از افراد یوآش تصمیم گرفتند انتقام خون زکریا پسر یهویاداع را از او بگیرند. پس او را در بسترش کشتند و بعد در شهر داوود دفن کردند، اما نه در آرامگاه سلطنتی.

26 And these are they that conspired against him, Zabad the sonne of Shimrath an Ammonitesse, and Iehozabad the sonne of Shimrith a Moabitesse.

توطئه‌کنندگان، زاباد پسر یک زن عمونی به نام شمعه و یهوزاباد پسر یک زن موآبی به نام شمریت بودند.

27 But his sonnes, and the summe of the taxe gathered by him, and the foundation of the house of God, behold, they are written in the storie of the booke of the Kings. And Amaziah his sonne reigned in his steade.

شرح حال پسران یوآش و نبوّتهایی که دربارهٔ او شد و شرح تعمیر خانهٔ خدا در کتاب «تاریخ پادشاهان» نوشته شده است. بعد از مرگ یوآش، پسرش اَمَصیا به جای او پادشاه شد.
