2 Chronicles 24
1 Ioash was seuen yere olde, when he began to reigne, and he reigned fourty yeere in Ierusalem: and his mothers name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.
Joas avait sept ans lorsqu’il devint roi, et il régna quarante ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s’appelait Sébia, de Bersabée.
2 And Ioash did vprightly in the sight of the Lord, all the dayes of Iehoiada the Priest.
Joas fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de Yahweh pendant toute la vie du prêtre Joïada.
3 And Iehoiada tooke him two wiues, and he begate sonnes and daughters.
Joïada prit deux femmes pour Joas, qui engendra des fils et des filles.
4 And afterward it came into Ioash mind, to renew the house of the Lord.
Après cela, Joas eut à cœur de restaurer la maison de Yahweh.
5 And he assembled the Priests and the Leuites, and said to them, Goe out vnto the cities of Iudah, and gather of all Israel money to repaire the house of your God, from yeere to yeere, and haste the thing: but the Leuites hasted not.
Il assembla les prêtres et les lévites et leur dit: « Allez dans les villes de Juda, et vous recueillerez parmi tout Israël de l’argent, chaque année, pour réparer la maison de votre Dieu, et faites cela avec hâte. » Mais les lévites ne se hâtèrent point.
6 Therefore the King called Iehoiada, the chiefe, and said vnto him, Why hast thou not required of the Leuites to bring in out of Iudah and Ierusalem the taxe of Moses the seruant of the Lord, and of the Congregation of Israel, for the Tabernacle of the testimonie?
Le roi appela Joïada, le grand prêtre, et lui dit: « Pourquoi n’as-tu pas veillé sur les lévites pour qu’ils apportent de Juda et de Jérusalem la taxe imposée à Israël par Moïse, serviteur de Yahweh, et par l’assemblée, pour la tente du témoignage?
7 For wicked Athaliah, and her children brake vp the house of God: and all the things that were dedicate for the house of the Lord, did they bestowe vpon Baalim.
Car l’impie Athalie et ses fils ont ravagé la maison de Dieu, et ils ont fait servir pour les Baals toutes les choses consacrées à la maison de Yahweh. »
8 Therefore the King commanded, and they made a chest, and set it at the gate of the house of the Lord without.
Alors le roi ordonna qu’on fit un coffre et qu’on le plaçât à la porte de la maison de Yahweh, en dehors.
9 And they made proclamation thorow Iudah and Ierusalem, to bring vnto the Lord the taxe of Moses the seruant of God, layde vpon Israel in the wildernesse.
Et l’on publia dans Juda et dans Jérusalem que chacun eût à apporter à Yahweh la taxe imposée dans le désert à Israël par Moïse, serviteur de Yahweh.
10 And all the princes and all the people reioyced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, vntill they had finished.
Tous les chefs et tout le peuple en eurent de la joie, et ils apportèrent et jetèrent dans le coffre tout ce qu’ils devaient payer.
11 And when it was time, they brought the chest vnto the Kings officer by the hand of the Leuites: and when they saw that there was much siluer, then the Kings Scribe (and one appoynted by the hie Priest) came and emptied the chest, and tooke it, and caried it to his place againe: thus they did day by day, and gathered siluer in abundance.
Le temps venu de livrer le coffre aux inspecteurs du roi par l’intermédiaire des lévites, lorsque ceux-ci voyaient qu’il y avait beaucoup d’argent dans le coffre, le secrétaire du roi et le commissaire du grand prêtre venaient vider le coffre; ils le prenaient et le remettaient à sa place. Ainsi faisaient-ils chaque fois, et ils recueillaient de l’argent en abondance.
12 And the King and Iehoiada gaue it to such as did the labour and worke in the house of the Lord, and hyred masons and carpenters to repayre the house of the Lord: they gaue it also to workers of yron and brasse, to repayre the house of the Lord.
Le roi et Joïada le donnaient à ceux qui faisaient exécuter l’ouvrage de la maison de Yahweh, et ceux-ci prenaient à gage des tailleurs de pierres et des charpentiers pour restaurer la maison de Yahweh, ainsi que des artisans en fer et en airain pour consolider la maison de Yahweh.
13 So the workemen wrought, and the worke amended through their hands: and they restored the house of God to his state, and strengthened it.
Les ouvriers travaillèrent, et la restauration progressa en leurs mains; ils rétablirent la maison de Dieu en son état ancien et l’affermirent.
14 And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the siluer before the King and Iehoiada, and he made thereof vessels for the house of the Lord, euen vessels to minister, both morters and incense cuppes, and vessels of golde, and of siluer: and they offred burnt offrings in the house of the Lord continually all the dayes of Iehoiada.
Quand ils eurent fini, ils apportèrent devant le roi et devant Joïada l’argent qui restait, et l’on en fit des ustensiles pour la maison de Yahweh, des ustensiles pour le service et pour les holocaustes, des coupes et d’autres ustensiles d’or et d’argent. Et l’on offrit continuellement des holocaustes dans la maison de Yahweh pendant toute la vie de Joïada.
15 But Iehoiada waxed olde, and was ful of dayes and dyed. An hundreth and thirtie yeere olde was he when he dyed.
Joïada devint vieux et rassasié de jours, et il mourut; il avait cent trente ans quand il mourut.
16 And they buried him in the citie of Dauid with the kings, because he had done good in Israel, and toward God and his house.
On l’enterra dans la ville de David avec les rois, parce qu’il avait fait du bien en Israël et à l’égard de Dieu et de sa maison.
17 And after the death of Iehoiada, came the princes of Iudah, and did reuerence to the King, and the King hearkened vnto them.
Après la mort de Joïada, les chefs de Juda vinrent se prosterner devant le roi; alors le roi les écouta.
18 And they left the house of the Lord God of their fathers, and serued groues and idoles: and wrath came vpon Iudah and Ierusalem, because of this their trespasse.
Et, abandonnant la maison de Yahweh, le Dieu de leurs pères, ils honorèrent les aschérahs et les idoles. La colère de Yahweh vint sur Juda et sur Jérusalem, à cause de cette prévarication.
19 And God sent Prophets amog the, to bring them againe vnto the Lord: and they made protestation among them, but they would not heare.
Pour les faire revenir vers lui, Yahweh envoya parmi eux des prophètes qui rendirent témoignage contre eux, mais ils ne les écoutèrent pas.
20 And the Spirit of God came vpon Zechariah the sonne of Iehoiada the Priest, which stoode aboue the people, and sayde vnto them, Thus sayth God, Why transgresse ye the commandements of the Lord? surely ye shall not prosper: because ye haue forsaken the Lord, he also hath forsaken you.
L’esprit de Dieu revêtit Zacharie, fils du prêtre Joïada, qui se présenta devant le peuple et lui dit: « Ainsi dit Dieu: Pourquoi transgressez-vous les commandements de Yahweh, pour ne pas prospérer? Parce que vous avez abandonné Yahweh, il vous abandonne à son tour. »
21 Then they conspired against him and stoned him with stones at the commandement of the King, in the court of the house of the Lord.
Et ils conspirèrent contre lui, et ils le lapidèrent par ordre du roi, dans le parvis de la maison de Yahweh.
22 Thus Ioash the King remembred not the kindnesse which Iehoiada his father had done to him, but slewe his sonne. And when he dyed, he sayd, The Lord looke vpon it, and require it.
Joas ne se souvint pas de l’affection qu’avait eue pour lui Joïada, père de Zacharie, et il fit périr son fils. Zacharie dit en mourant: « Que Yahweh voie et fasse justice! »
23 And when the yeere was out, the host of Aram came vp against him, and they came against Iudah and Ierusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoyle of them vnto the King of Damascus.
Au retour de l’année, l’armée des Syriens monta contre Joas et vint en Juda et à Jérusalem. Ils tuèrent parmi le peuple tous les chefs du peuple, et ils envoyèrent tout leur butin au roi de Damas.
24 Though the armie of Aram came with a small company of men, yet the Lord deliuered a very great armie into their hand, because they had forsaken the Lord God of their fathers: and they gaue sentence against Ioash.
L’armée des Syriens était venue avec un petit nombre d’hommes, et Yahweh livra entre leurs mains une armée considérable, parce qu’ils avaient abandonné Yahweh, le Dieu de leurs pères. Les Syriens exécutèrent le jugement contre Joas.
25 And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases) his owne seruants conspired against him for the blood of the children of Iehoiada the Priest, and slewe him on his bed, and he dyed, and they buryed him in the citie of Dauid: but they buryed him not in the sepulchres of the Kings.
Lorsqu’ils se furent éloignés de lui, l’ayant laissé couvert de nombreuses blessures, ses serviteurs conspirèrent contre lui, à cause du sang des fils du prêtre Joïada; ils le tuèrent sur son lit, et il mourut. On l’enterra dans la ville de David, mais on ne l’enterra pas dans les sépulcres des rois.
26 And these are they that conspired against him, Zabad the sonne of Shimrath an Ammonitesse, and Iehozabad the sonne of Shimrith a Moabitesse.
Voici ceux qui conspirèrent contre lui: Zabad, fils de Semmaath, femme Ammonite, et Jozabad, fils de Samarith, femme Moabite.
27 But his sonnes, and the summe of the taxe gathered by him, and the foundation of the house of God, behold, they are written in the storie of the booke of the Kings. And Amaziah his sonne reigned in his steade.
Ce qui concerne ses fils, le grand nombre de prophéties dirigées contre lui et la restauration de la maison de Dieu, voici que cela est écrit dans les Mémoires sur le livre des Rois. Amasias, son fils, régna à sa place.
