2 Chronicles 23
1 And in the seuenth yeere Iehoiada waxed bolde, and tooke the captaines of hundreths, to wit, Azariah the sonne of Ieroham, and Ishmael the sonne of Iehohanan, and Azariah the sonne of Obed, and Maasiah the sonne of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the sonne of Zichri in couenant with him.
Mais en la septième année Jéhojadah se fortifia, et prit avec soi des centeniers; [savoir] Hazaria fils de Jéroham, Ismahël fils de Jéhohanan, Hazaria fils de Hobed, Mahaséja fils de Hadaja, Elisaphat fils de Zicri, et traita alliance avec eux.
2 And they went about in Iudah, and gathered the Leuites out of all the cities of Iudah, and the chiefe fathers of Israel: and they came to Ierusale.
Et ils firent le tour de Juda, et assemblèrent de toutes les villes de Juda les Lévites, et les Chefs des pères d'Israël, et vinrent à Jérusalem.
3 And al the Congregation made a couenant with the King in the house of God: and he sayde vnto them, Behold, the Kings sonne must reigne, as the Lord hath sayd of the sonnes of Dauid.
Et toute cette assemblée traita alliance avec le Roi dans la maison de Dieu, et [Jéhojadah] leur dit: Voici, le fils du Roi régnera selon que l'Eternel en a parlé touchant les fils de David.
4 This is it that ye shall do, The third part of you that come on the Sabbath of the Priests, and the Leuites, shalbe porters of the doores.
C'est ici [donc] ce que vous ferez: La troisième partie de ceux d'entre vous qui entrerez en semaine, tant des Sacrificateurs, que des Lévites, sera à la porte de Sippim.
5 And another third part towarde the Kings house, and another thirde part at the gate of the foundation, and al the people shalbe in the courts of the house of the Lord.
Et la troisième partie se tiendra vers la maison du Roi; et la troisième partie à la porte du fondement; et que tout le peuple soit dans les parvis de la maison de l'Eternel.
6 But let none come into the house of the Lord, saue the Priests, and the Leuites that minister: they shall go in, for they are holy: but all the people shall keepe the watch of the Lord.
Que nul n'entre dans la maison de l'Eternel, que les Sacrificateurs et les Lévites servants; ceux-ci y entreront, parce qu'ils sont sanctifiés; et le reste du peuple fera la garde de l'Eternel.
7 And the Leuites shall compasse the King rounde about, and euery man with his weapon in his hand, and he that entreth into the house, shall be slaine, and be you with the King, when he commeth in, and when he goeth out.
Et ces Lévites-là environneront le Roi tout autour, ayant chacun ses armes en sa main; mais que celui qui entrera dans la maison, soit mis à mort; et tenez-vous auprès du Roi quand il sortira et quand il entrera.
8 So the Leuites and all Iudah did according to all things that Iehoiada the Priest had commanded, and tooke euery man his men that came on the Sabbath, with them that went out on the Sabbath: for Iehoiada the Priest did not discharge the courses.
Les Lévites donc et tous ceux de Juda firent tout ce que Jéhojadah le Sacrificateur avait commandé, et prirent chacun ses gens, tant ceux qui entraient en semaine que ceux qui sortaient de semaine; car Jéhojadah le Sacrificateur n'avait point donné congé aux départements.
9 And Iehoiada the Priest deliuered to the captaines of hundreths speares, and shieldes, and bucklers which had bene King Dauids, and were in the house of God.
Et Jéhojadah le sacrificateur donna aux centeniers des hallebardes, des boucliers, et des rondelles, qui avaient été au Roi David, et qui étaient dans la maison de Dieu.
10 And he caused all the people to stand (euery man with his weapon in his hande) from the right side of the house, to ye left side of the house by the altar and by the house round about ye king.
Et il rangea tout le peuple, tout autour du Roi; chacun tenant ses armes en sa main, depuis le côté droit du Temple jusqu'au côté gauche du Temple, tant pour l'autel, que pour le Temple.
11 Then they brought out the Kings sonne, and put vpon him the crowne and gaue him the testimonie, and made him King. And Iehoiada and his sonnes anoynted him, and sayd, God saue the King.
Alors on amena le fils du Roi, et on mit sur lui la couronne et le témoignage, et ils l'établirent Roi; et Jéhojadah et ses fils l'oignirent, et dirent: Vive le Roi!
12 But when Athaliah heard the noyse of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people into the house of the Lord.
Et Hathalie entendant le bruit du peuple qui courait, et qui chantait les louanges [de Dieu] autour du Roi, vint vers le peuple en la maison de l'Eternel.
13 And when she looked, beholde, the King stoode by his pillar at the entring in, and the princes and the trumpets by the King, and all the people of the land reioyced, and blew the trumpets, and the singers were with instruments of musike, and they that could sing prayse: then Athaliah rent her clothes, and said, Treason, treason.
Et elle regarda, et voilà, le Roi était près de sa colonne à l'entrée, et les capitaines, et les trompettes étaient près du Roi, et tout le peuple du pays était en joie, et on sonnait des trompettes; les chantres aussi [chantaient] avec des instruments de musique, et montraient comment il fallait chanter les louanges [de Dieu]; et sur cela Hathalie déchira ses vêtements, et dit: Conjuration! conjuration!
14 Then Iehoiada the Priest brought out the captaines of hundreths that were gouernours of the hoste, and said vnto them, Haue her foorth of the ranges, and he that followeth her, let him dye by the sword: for the Priest had said, Slay her not in the house of the Lord.
Alors le Sacrificateur Jéhojadah fit sortir les centeniers, qui avaient la charge de l'armée, et leur dit: Menez-la hors des rangs; et que celui qui la suivra, soit mis à mort par l'épée; car le Sacrificateur avait dit: Ne la mettez point à mort dans la maison de l'Eternel.
15 So they layde hands on her: and when she was come to the entring of the horsegate by the Kings house, they slew her there.
Ils lui firent donc place; et elle s'en retourna en la maison du Roi par l'entrée de la porte des chevaux, et ils la firent mourir là.
16 And Iehoiada made a couenant betweene him, and all the people, and the King, that they would be the Lords people.
Et Jéhojadah, tout le peuple, et le Roi traitèrent cette alliance, qu'ils seraient le peuple de l'Eternel.
17 And all the people went to the house of Baal, and destroyed, and brake his altars and his images, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.
Alors tout le peuple entra dans la maison de Bahal, et ils la démolirent; ils brisèrent ses autels et ses images, et tuèrent Mattan Sacrificateur de Bahal, devant les autels.
18 And Iehoiada appointed officers for the house of the Lord, vnder the handes of the Priestes and Leuites, whome Dauid had distributed for the house of the Lord, to offer burnt offrings vnto the Lord, as it is written in the Law of Moses, with reioycing and singing by the appoyntment of Dauid.
Jéhojadah rétablit aussi les charges de la maison de l'Eternel, entre les mains des Sacrificateurs Lévites, que David avait distribués pour la maison de l'Eternel, afin qu'ils offrissent les holocaustes à l'Eternel, ainsi qu'il est écrit dans la Loi de Moïse, avec joie et avec des cantiques, selon la disposition qui en avait été faite par David.
19 And he set porters by the gates of ye house of the Lord, that none that was vncleane in any thing, should enter in.
Il établit aussi des portiers aux portes de la maison de l'Eternel; afin qu'aucune personne souillée, pour quelque chose que ce fût, n'y entrât.
20 And he tooke the captaines of hundreths, and the noble men, and the gouernours of the people, and all the people of the land, and he caused the King to come downe out of the house of the Lord, and they went thorowe the hie gate of the Kings house, and set the King vpon the throne of the kingdome.
Il prit [ensuite] les centeniers, les hommes les plus considérables, ceux qui étaient établis en autorité sur le peuple, et tout le peuple du pays; et il fit descendre le Roi de la maison de l'Eternel, et ils entrèrent par le milieu de la haute porte dans la maison du Roi; puis ils firent asseoir le Roi sur le trône Royal.
21 Then all the people of the land reioyced, and the citie was quiet, after that they had slaine Athaliah with the sword.
Et tout le peuple du pays fut en joie, et la ville demeura tranquille, bien qu'on eût mis à mort Hathalie par l'épée.
