2 Chronicles 20
1 After this also came the children of Moab and the children of Ammon, and with them of the Ammonites against Iehoshaphat to battell.
Après ces choses les enfants de Moab, et les enfants de Hammon vinrent, car les Hammonites s'étaient joints aux Moabites pour faire la guerre à Josaphat.
2 Then there came that tolde Iehoshaphat, saying, There commeth a great multitude against thee from beyonde the Sea, out of Aram: and beholde, they bee in Hazzon Tamar, which is En-gedi.
Et on vint faire ce rapport à Josaphat, en disant: Il est venu contre toi une grande multitude de gens, des quartiers de delà la mer, [et] de Syrie; et voici ils sont à Hatsa-tson-tamar, qui est Henguedi.
3 And Iehoshaphat feared, and set him selfe to seeke the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Iudah.
Alors Josaphat craignit, et se disposa à rechercher l'Eternel, et publia le jeûne par tout Juda.
4 And Iudah gathered them selues together to aske counsel of the Lord: they came euen out of all the cities of Iudah to inquire of the Lord,
Ainsi Juda fut assemblé pour demander du secours à l'Eternel; et on vint de toutes les villes de Juda pour invoquer l'Eternel.
5 And Iehoshaphat stoode in the Congregation of Iudah and Ierusalem in the house of the Lord before the new court,
Et Josaphat se tint debout en l'assemblée de Juda et de Jérusalem dans la maison de l'Eternel, au devant du nouveau parvis.
6 And saide, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heauen? and reignest not thou on all the kingdomes of the heathen? and in thine hande is power and might, and none is able to withstand thee.
Et il dit: Ô Eternel! Dieu de nos pères, n'es-tu pas le Dieu qui es aux cieux, et qui domines sur tous les Royaumes des nations? et certes en ta main est la force et la puissance, de sorte que nul ne peut te résister.
7 Diddest not thou our God cast out ye inhabitants of this lande before thy people Israel, and gauest it to the seede of Abraham thy friende for euer?
N'est-ce pas toi, ô notre Dieu! qui as dépossédé les habitants de ce pays de devant ton peuple d'Israël; et qui l'as donné pour toujours à la postérité d'Abraham, lequel t'aimait?
8 And they dwelt therein, and haue built thee a Sanctuarie therein for thy Name, saying,
De sorte qu'ils y ont habité, et t'y ont bâti un Sanctuaire pour ton Nom, en disant:
9 If euill come vpon vs, as the sworde of iudgement, or pestilence, or famine, we will stande before this house and in thy presence (for thy name is in this house) and will crie vnto thee in our tribulation, and thou wilt heare and helpe.
S'il nous arrive quelque mal, [savoir] l'épée de la vengeance, ou la peste, ou la famine, nous nous tiendrons devant cette maison et en ta présence; parce que ton Nom est en cette maison, nous crierons à toi à cause de notre angoisse, tu nous exauceras, et tu nous délivreras.
10 And now beholde, the children of Ammon and Moab, and mount Seir, by whome thou wouldest not let Israel goe, when they came out of the land of Egypt: but they turned aside from them, and destroyed them not:
Or maintenant voici, les enfants de Hammon et de Moab, et ceux du mont de Séhir, parmi lesquels tu ne permis point aux enfants d'Israël de passer quand ils venaient du pays d'Egypte, car ils se détournèrent d'eux, et ils ne les détruisirent point;
11 Behold, I say, they reward vs, in comming to cast vs out of thine inheritance, which thou hast caused vs to inherit.
Voici, pour nous récompenser, ils viennent nous chasser de ton héritage, que tu nous as fait posséder.
12 O our God, wilt thou not iudge them? for there is no strength in vs to stand before this great multitude that commeth against vs, neither doe wee knowe what to doe: but our eyes are toward thee.
Ô notre Dieu! ne les jugeras-tu pas? vu qu'il n'y a point de force en nous [pour subsister] devant cette grande multitude qui vient contre nous, et nous ne savons ce que nous devons faire; mais nos yeux sont sur toi.
13 And all Iudah stoode before the Lord with their yong ones, their wiues, and their children.
Et tous ceux de Juda se tenaient debout devant l'Eternel, avec leurs familles, leurs femmes, et leurs enfants.
14 And Iahaziel the sonne of Zechariah the sonne of Benaiah, the sonne of Ieiel, the sonne of Mattaniah, a Leuite of the sonnes of Asaph was there, vpon whome came the Spirite of ye Lord, in the middes of the Congregation.
Alors l'Esprit de l'Eternel fut sur Jahaziël, fils de Zacharie, fils de Bénéia, fils de Jéhiël, fils de Mattania Lévite d'entre les enfants d'Asaph, au milieu de l'assemblée.
15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Iudah, and ye inhabitantes of Ierusalem, and thou, King Iehoshaphat: thus saith the Lord vnto you, Feare you not, neither be afraide for this great multitude: for the battel is not yours, but Gods.
Et il dit: Vous tous de Juda, et vous qui habitez à Jérusalem, et toi, Roi Josaphat, soyez attentifs. L'Eternel vous parle ainsi: Ne craignez point, et ne soyez point effrayés à cause de cette grande multitude; car ce ne sera pas à vous de conduire cette guerre, mais à Dieu.
16 To morowe goe yee downe against them: beholde, they come vp by the cleft of Ziz, and ye shall finde them at the ende of the brooke before the wildernesse of Ieruel.
Descendez demain vers eux; voici, ils vont monter par la montée de Tsits, et vous les trouverez au bout du torrent, vis-à-vis du désert de Jéruël.
17 Ye shall not neede to fight in this battell: stand still, moue not, and behold the saluation of the Lord towardes you: O Iudah, and Ierusalem, feare ye not, neither be afraid: to morow goe out against them, and the Lord wilbe with you.
Ce ne sera point à vous à combattre dans cette bataille, présentez-vous, tenez-vous debout, et voyez la délivrance que l'Eternel vous va donner. Juda et Jérusalem, ne craignez point, et ne soyez point effrayés; sortez demain au devant d'eux, car l'Eternel sera avec vous.
18 Then Iehoshaphat bowed downe with his face to the earth, and all Iudah and the inhabitants of Ierusalem fell downe before the Lord, worshipping the Lord.
Alors Josaphat s'inclina le visage contre terre, et tout Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem se jetèrent devant l'Eternel, se prosternant devant l'Eternel.
19 And the Leuites of the children of the Kohathites and of the childre of the Corhites stood vp to prayse the Lord God of Israel with a loude voyce on hie.
Et les Lévites d'entre les enfants des Kéhathites, et d'entre les enfants des Corites, se levèrent pour louer d'une voix haute et éclatante l'Eternel le Dieu d'Israël.
20 And when they arose early in the morning, they went forth to the wildernesse of Tekoa: and as they departed, Iehoshaphat stoode and sayde, Heare ye me, O Iudah, and ye inhabitants of Ierusalem: put your trust in the Lord your God, and ye shalbe assured: beleeue his Prophets, and ye shall prosper.
Puis ils se levèrent de grand matin, et sortirent vers le désert de Tékoah, et comme ils sortaient, Josaphat se tenant debout, dit: Juda, et vous habitants de Jérusalem, écoutez-moi. Croyez en l'Eternel votre Dieu, et vous serez en sûreté; croyez ses Prophètes, et vous prospérerez.
21 And when he had consulted with the people, and appoynted singers vnto the Lord, and them that should prayse him that is in the beautifull Sanctuarie, in going forth before the men of armes, and saying, Prayse ye the Lord, for his mercy lasteth for euer,
Puis ayant consulté avec le peuple, il établit des gens pour chanter à l'Eternel et pour louer sa sainte magnificence, [lesquels] marchant devant l'armée, disaient: Célébrez l'Eternel, car sa gratuité demeure à toujours.
22 And when they began to shoute, and to prayse, the Lord layed ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Iudah, and they slewe one another.
Et à l'heure qu'ils commencèrent le chant du triomphe et la louange, l'Eternel mit des embûches contre les enfants de Hammon, les Moabites, et ceux du mont de Séhir, qui venaient contre Juda, de sorte qu'ils furent battus.
23 For the children of Ammon and Moab rose against the inhabitants of mount Seir, to slay and to destroy them and when they had made an end of the inhabitantes of Seir, euery one helped to destroy another.
Car les enfants de Hammon et les Moabites s'élevèrent contre les habitants du mont de Séhir, pour les détruire à la façon de l'interdit, et pour les exterminer; et quand ils eurent achevé d'exterminer les habitants de Séhir, ils s'aidèrent l'un l'autre à se détruire mutuellement.
24 And when Iudah came towarde Mizpah in the wildernes, they looked vnto the multitude: and behold, the carkeises were fallen to the earth, and none escaped.
Et ceux de Juda vinrent jusqu'à l'endroit de Mitspa au désert, et regardant vers cette multitude, voilà, c'étaient tous des corps abattus par terre, sans qu'il en fût échappé un seul.
25 And when Iehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoyle of them, they founde among them in abundance both of substance and also of bodies laden with precious iewels, which they tooke for themselues, till they could cary no more: they were three dayes in gathering of the spoyle: for it was much.
Ainsi Josaphat et son peuple vinrent pour piller leur butin, et ils trouvèrent de grandes richesses parmi les morts, et des hardes précieuses, et ils en prirent tant, qu'ils n'en pouvaient plus porter; ils pillèrent le butin pendant trois jours, car il y en avait en abondance.
26 And in the fourth day they assembled themselues in the valley of Berachah: for there they blessed the Lord: therefore they called the name of that place, The valley of Berachah vnto this day.
Puis au quatrième jour ils s'assemblèrent dans la vallée [appelée] de bénédiction, parce qu'ils bénirent là l'Eternel; c'est pourquoi on a appelé ce lieu-là, la vallée de bénédiction, jusqu'à ce jour.
27 Then euery man of Iudah and Ierusalem returned with Iehoshaphat their head, to goe againe to Ierusalem with ioy: for the Lord had made them to reioyce ouer their enemies.
Et tous les hommes de Juda et de Jérusalem, et Josaphat marchant le premier, tournèrent visage pour revenir à Jérusalem avec joie: car l'Eternel les avait remplis de joie à cause de leurs ennemis.
28 And they came to Ierusalem with viols and with harpes, and with trumpets, euen vnto the house of the Lord.
Et ils entrèrent à Jérusalem dans la maison de l'Eternel, avec des musettes, des violons, et des trompettes.
29 And the feare of God was vpon all the kingdomes of the earth, whe they had heard that the Lord had fought against ye enemies of Israel.
Et la frayeur de Dieu fut sur tous les Royaumes de ce pays-là, quand ils eurent appris que l'Eternel avait combattu contre les ennemis d'Israël.
30 So the kingdom of Iehoshaphat was quiet, and his God gaue him rest on euery side.
Ainsi le Royaume de Josaphat fut en repos, parce que son Dieu lui donna du repos tout à l'entour.
31 And Iehoshaphat reigned ouer Iudah, and was fiue and thirtie yeere olde, when he began to reigne: and reigned fiue and twentie yeere in Ierusalem, and his mothers name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
Josaphat donc régna sur Juda. Il était âgé de trente-cinq ans quand il commença à régner, et il régna vingt-cinq ans à Jérusalem; sa mère avait nom Hazuba, et elle était fille de Silhi.
32 And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not therefrom, doing that which was right in the sight of the Lord.
Il suivit la voie d'Asa son père, et ne s'en détourna point, faisant ce qui est droit devant l'Eternel.
33 Howbeit the hie places were not taken away: for the people had not yet prepared their hearts vnto the God of their fathers.
Toutefois les hauts lieux ne furent point ôtés, parce que le peuple n'avait pas encore disposé son cœur envers le Dieu de ses pères.
34 Concerning the rest of the actes of Iehoshaphat first and last, beholde, they are written in the booke of Iehu the sonne of Hanani, which is mentioned in the booke of the kings of Israel.
Or le reste des faits de Josaphat, tant les premiers que les derniers, voilà ils sont écrits dans les Mémoires de Jéhu fils de Hanani, selon qu'il a été enregistré au Livre des Rois d'Israël.
35 Yet after this did Iehoshaphat King of Iudah ioyne himselfe with Ahaziah King of Israel, who was giuen to do euill.
Après cela Josaphat Roi de Juda se joignit à Achazia Roi d'Israël, qui ne s'employait qu'à faire du mal.
36 And he ioyned with him, to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the shippes in Ezion Gaber.
Et il s'associa avec lui pour faire des navires et pour les envoyer en Tarsis; et ils firent ces navires à Hetsjonguéber.
37 Then Eliezer ye sonne of Dodauah of Mareshah prophecied against Iehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast ioyned thy selfe with Ahaziah, the Lord hath broken thy workes. and the shippes were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.
Alors Elihézer fils de Dodava, de Marésa, prophétisa contre Josaphat, en disant: Parce que tu t'es joint à Achazia, l'Eternel a détruit tes ouvrages. Les navires donc furent brisés, et ils ne purent point aller en Tarsis.
