2 Chronicles 18

1 And Iehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance, but he was ioyned in affinitie with Ahab.

Or Josaphat ayant de grandes richesses et une grande gloire fit alliance avec Achab.

2 And after certaine yeeres he went downe to Ahab to Samaria: and Ahab slew sheepe and oxen for him in great nomber, and for the people that he had with him, and entised him to goe vp vnto Ramoth Gilead.

Et au bout de quelques années il descendit vers Achab à Samarie, et Achab tua pour lui et pour le peuple qui [était] avec lui un grand nombre de brebis et de bœufs, et le persuada de monter contre Ramoth de Galaad.

3 And Ahab King of Israel saide vnto Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, Wilt thou goe with mee to Ramoth Gilead? And hee answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people, and wee will ioyne with thee in the warre.

Car Achab, Roi d'Israël, dit à Josaphat Roi de Juda: Ne viendras-tu pas avec moi contre Ramoth de Galaad? Et il lui [répondit]: Compte sur moi comme sur toi, et sur mon peuple comme sur ton peuple; [nous irons] avec toi à cette guerre.

4 And Iehoshaphat sayde vnto the King of Israel, Aske counsel, I pray thee, at the worde of the Lord this day.

Josaphat dit aussi au Roi d'Israël: Je te prie qu'aujourd'hui tu t'enquières de la parole de l'Eternel.

5 Therefore the King of Israel gathered of Prophets foure hundreth men, and sayde vnto them, Shall we goe to Ramoth Gilead to battel, or shall I cease? And they sayd, Go vp: for God shall deliuer it into the Kings hand.

Et le Roi d'Israël assembla quatre cents Prophètes, auxquels il dit: Irons-nous à la guerre contre Ramoth de Galaad, ou m'en désisterai-je? Et ils répondirent: Monte; car Dieu la livrera entre les mains du Roi.

6 But Iehoshaphat sayde, Is there heere neuer a Prophet more of the Lord that wee might inquire of him?

Mais Josaphat dit: N'y a-t-il point encore ici quelque Prophète de l'Eternel, afin que nous l'interrogions?

7 And the King of Israel sayd vnto Iehoshaphat, There is yet one man, by whome wee may aske counsell of the Lord, but I hate him: for he doeth not prophesie good vnto me, but alway euil: it is Michaiah the sonne of Imla. Then Iehoshaphat said, Let not the King say so.

Et le Roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat: Il y a encore un homme par lequel on peut s'enquérir de l'Eternel, mais je le hais, parce qu'il ne prophétise rien de bon, quand il est question de moi, mais toujours du mal; c'est Michée fils de Jimla. Et Josaphat dit: Que le Roi ne parle point ainsi.

8 And the King of Israel called an eunuche, and said, Call quickly Michaiah the sonne of Imla.

Alors le Roi d'Israël appela un Eunuque, et lui dit: Fais venir en diligence Michée fils de Jimla.

9 And the King of Israel, and Iehoshaphat King of Iudah sate either of them on his throne clothed in their apparel: they sate euen in the threshing floore at the entring in of the gate of Samaria: and all the Prophets prophesied before them.

Or le Roi d'Israël et Josaphat Roi de Juda, étaient assis chacun sur son trône, revêtus de leurs habits; ils étaient assis en la place vers l'entrée de la porte de Samarie, et tous les Prophètes prophétisaient en leur présence.

10 And Zidkiah ye sonne of Chenaanah made him hornes of yron, and sayde, Thus sayth the Lord, With these shalt thou push the Aramites vntill thou hast consumed them.

Alors Tsidkija fils de Kénahana s'étant fait des cornes de fer, dit: Ainsi a dit l'Eternel, tu heurteras avec ces cornes les Syriens, jusqu'à les détruire entièrement.

11 And all the Prophets prophesied so, saying, Go vp to Ramoth Gilead, and prosper: for the Lord shall deliuer it into the hand of the King.

Et tous les Prophètes prophétisaient la même chose, en disant: Monte à Ramoth de Galaad, et tu prospéreras, et l'Eternel la livrera entre les mains du Roi.

12 And the messenger that went to call Michaiah, spake to him, saying, Beholde, the wordes of the Prophets declare good to the King with one accord: let thy word therefore, I pray thee, be like one of theirs, and speake thou good.

Or le messager qui était allé appeler Michée, lui parla, en disant: Voici, les Prophètes prédisent tous d'une voix du bonheur au Roi, je te prie donc que ta parole soit semblable à celle de l'un d'eux, et prophétise-lui du bonheur.

13 And Michaiah saide, As the Lord liueth, whatsoeuer my God saith, that will I speake.

Mais Michée répondit: L'Eternel est vivant, que je dirai ce que mon Dieu dira.

14 So he came to the King, and the King said vnto him, Michaiah, shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battel, or shall I leaue off? And he said, Goe yee vp, and prosper, and they shalbe deliuered into your hand.

Il vint donc vers le Roi; et le Roi lui dit: Michée, irons-nous à la guerre contre Ramoth de Galaad, ou m'en désisterai-je? Et il répondit: Montez, et vous prospérerez, et ils seront livrés entre vos mains.

15 And the King sayd to him, Howe oft shall I charge thee, that thou tell mee nothing but the trueth in the Name of the Lord?

Et le Roi lui dit: Jusqu'à combien de fois t'adjurerai-je que tu ne me dises que la vérité au Nom de l'Eternel?

16 Then he said, I saw al Israel scattered in the mountaines, as sheepe that haue no shepheard: and the Lord sayd, These haue no Master: let them returne euery man to his house in peace.

Et [Michée] répondit: J'ai vu tout Israël dispersé par les montagnes, comme un troupeau de brebis qui n'a point de pasteur; et l'Eternel a dit: Ceux-ci sont sans Seigneurs; que chacun s'en retourne dans sa maison en paix.

17 And the King of Israel sayde to Iehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee, that he would not prophesie good vnto me, but euill?

Alors le Roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat: Ne t'ai-je pas bien dit qu'il ne prophétise rien de bon, quand il est question de moi, mais du mal?

18 Againe hee saide, Therefore heare ye the worde of the Lord: I sawe the Lord sit vpon his throne, and all the hoste of heauen standing at his right hand, and at his left.

Et [Michée] dit: Ecoutez pourtant la parole de l'Eternel. J'ai vu l'Eternel assis sur son trône, et toute l'armée des cieux se tenant à sa droite et à sa gauche.

19 And the Lord sayd, Who shall perswade Ahab King of Israel, that he may go vp, and fall at Ramoth Gilead? And one spake and said thus, and another said that.

Et l'Eternel a dit: Qui est-ce qui induira Achab Roi d'Israël à monter, afin qu'il tombe en Ramoth de Galaad? et il ajouta: L'un dit d'une manière, et l'autre d'une autre.

20 Then there came forth a spirit and stoode before the Lord, and said, I will perswade him. And the Lord said vnto him, Wherein?

Alors un esprit s'avança, et se tint devant l'Eternel, et dit: Je l'y induirai. Et l'Eternel lui dit: Comment?

21 And he saide, I will goe out, and bee a false spirit in the mouth of all his Prophets. And hee said, Thou shalt perswade, and shalt also preuaile: goe forth and do so.

Et il répondit: Je sortirai et je serai un esprit de mensonge en la bouche de tous ses Prophètes. Et [l'Eternel] dit: [Oui] tu l'induiras, et même tu en viendras à bout, sors et fais-le ainsi.

22 Now therefore behold, the Lord hath put a false spirit in the mouth of these thy Prophets, and the Lord hath determined euill against thee.

Maintenant donc voici, l'Eternel a mis un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tes Prophètes, et l'Eternel a prononcé du mal contre toi.

23 Then Zidkiah the sonne of Chenaanah came neere, and smote Michaiah vpon the cheeke, and sayde, By what way went the Spirit of the Lord from me, to speake with thee?

Alors Tsidkija fils de Kénahana s'approcha, et frappa Michée sur la joue, et lui dit: Par quel chemin l'esprit de l'Eternel s'est-il retiré de moi pour te parler?

24 And Michaiah saide, Behold, thou shalt see that day when thou shalt goe from chamber to chamber to hide thee.

Et Michée répondit: Voici, tu le verras le jour que tu iras de chambre en chambre pour te cacher.

25 And the King of Israel sayde, Take ye Michaiah, and cary him to Amon the gouernour of the citie, and to Ioash the Kings sonne,

Alors le Roi d'Israël dit: Qu'on prenne Michée, et qu'on le mène à Amon, capitaine de la ville, et vers Joas fils du Roi;

26 And say, Thus saith the King, Put this man in the prison house, and feede him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction vntil I returne in peace.

Et qu'on leur dise: Ainsi a dit le Roi: Mettez cet homme en prison, et ne lui donnez qu'un peu de pain à manger et un peu d'eau [à boire], jusqu'à ce que je retourne en paix.

27 And Michaiah said, If thou returne in peace, the Lord hath not spoken by me. And he saide, Heare, all ye people.

Et Michée répondit: Si jamais tu retournes en paix, l'Eternel n'aura point parlé par moi. Il dit encore: Entendez cela peuples, vous tous qui êtes ici.

28 So the King of Israel and Iehoshaphat the King of Iudah went vp to Ramoth Gilead.

Le Roi d'Israël donc monta avec Josaphat Roi de Juda, contre Ramoth de Galaad.

29 And the King of Israel said vnto Iehoshaphat, I will change my selfe, and enter into the battel: but put thou on thine apparel. So the King of Israel changed himselfe, and they went into the battel.

Et le Roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat: Que je me déguise, et que j'aille à la bataille; mais toi, vêts-toi de tes habits. Le Roi d'Israël donc se déguisa, et ils allèrent ainsi à la bataille.

30 And the King of Aram had commanded the captaines of the charets that were with him, saying, Fight you not with small, nor great, but against the King of Israel onely.

Or le Roi des Syriens avait commandé aux capitaines de ses chariots, en disant: Vous ne combattrez contre personne que contre le Roi d'Israël.

31 And when the captaines of the charets saw Iehoshaphat, they sayde, It is the King of Israel: and they compassed about him to fight. But Iehoshaphat cryed, and the Lord helped him and moued them to depart from him.

Il arriva donc qu'aussitôt que les capitaines des chariots eurent vu Josaphat, ils dirent: C'est ici le Roi d'Israël; et ils l'environnèrent pour le combattre. Mais Josaphat s'écria, et l'Eternel le secourut; et Dieu les porta à s'éloigner de lui.

32 For when the captaines of the charets saw that hee was not the King of Israel, they turned backe from him.

Or dès que les capitaines des chariots eurent vu que ce n'était point le Roi d'Israël, ils se détournèrent de lui.

33 Then a certaine man drewe a bowe mightily, and smote the King of Israel betweene the ioyntes of his brigandine: Therefore he saide to his charetman, Turne thine hand, and carie mee out of the host: for I am hurt.

Alors quelqu'un tira de son arc de toute sa force; et il frappa le Roi d'Israël entre les tassettes et le harnois; et [le Roi] dit à son cocher: Tourne ta main, et mène-moi hors du camp; car on m'a fort blessé.

34 And the battel increased that day: and the King of Israel stood still in his charet against the Aramites vntil euen, and dyed at the time of the sunne going downe.

Il y eut en ce jour-là un très rude combat, et le Roi d'Israël demeura dans son chariot, vis-à-vis des Syriens, jusqu'au soir, et il mourut vers le temps que le soleil se couchait.
