2 Chronicles 18

1 And Iehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance, but he was ioyned in affinitie with Ahab.

La gloire et la richesse de Josaphat s'accrurent encore, et il s'allia par un mariage à la famille d'Achab.

2 And after certaine yeeres he went downe to Ahab to Samaria: and Ahab slew sheepe and oxen for him in great nomber, and for the people that he had with him, and entised him to goe vp vnto Ramoth Gilead.

Au bout de quelques années, il alla voir Achab en Samarie, et Achab immola, pour lui et sa suite, quantité de bœufs et de brebis; il lui fit beaucoup d'amitiés pour l'emmener avec lui contre Ramoth-Galaad.

3 And Ahab King of Israel saide vnto Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, Wilt thou goe with mee to Ramoth Gilead? And hee answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people, and wee will ioyne with thee in the warre.

Et Achab, roi d'Israël, dit à Josaphat, roi de Juda: Viendras-tu avec moi à Ramoth-Galaad? L'autre répondit: Comme tu es, je suis; mon peuple est comme ton peuple, il fera la guerre comme lui.

4 And Iehoshaphat sayde vnto the King of Israel, Aske counsel, I pray thee, at the worde of the Lord this day.

Et Josaphat dit au roi d'Israël: Consulte aujourd'hui le Seigneur.

5 Therefore the King of Israel gathered of Prophets foure hundreth men, and sayde vnto them, Shall we goe to Ramoth Gilead to battel, or shall I cease? And they sayd, Go vp: for God shall deliuer it into the Kings hand.

Et le roi d'Israël rassembla tous les prophètes, au nombre de quatre cents, et il leur dit: Irai-je en guerre à Ramoth-Galaad, ou m'abstiendrai-je? Et ils répondirent: Marche, le Seigneur les livrera aux mains du roi.

6 But Iehoshaphat sayde, Is there heere neuer a Prophet more of the Lord that wee might inquire of him?

Et Josaphat dit: N'y a-t-il plus ici un seul prophète du Seigneur par qui nous puissions consulter?

7 And the King of Israel sayd vnto Iehoshaphat, There is yet one man, by whome wee may aske counsell of the Lord, but I hate him: for he doeth not prophesie good vnto me, but alway euil: it is Michaiah the sonne of Imla. Then Iehoshaphat said, Let not the King say so.

Et le roi d'Israël répondit à Josaphat: Il y a encore un homme par qui l'on peut consulter le Seigneur; mais je le hais, parce que, à mon sujet, il ne prophétise jamais le bien, mais toujours le mal. C'est Michée, fils de Semis. Et Josaphat reprit: Que le roi ne tienne pas un tel langage.

8 And the King of Israel called an eunuche, and said, Call quickly Michaiah the sonne of Imla.

Et le roi appela un eunuque, et il dit: Fais venir tout de suite Michée, fils de Semis.

9 And the King of Israel, and Iehoshaphat King of Iudah sate either of them on his throne clothed in their apparel: they sate euen in the threshing floore at the entring in of the gate of Samaria: and all the Prophets prophesied before them.

Or, le roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, revêtus de robes, étaient assis chacun sur son trône, sur l'esplanade de la porte de Samarie, et tous les prophètes prophétisaient devant eux.

10 And Zidkiah ye sonne of Chenaanah made him hornes of yron, and sayde, Thus sayth the Lord, With these shalt thou push the Aramites vntill thou hast consumed them.

L'un d'eux, Sédécias, fils de Chanaan, s'était fait des cornes de fer, et il dit: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Avec ces cornes tu frapperas la Syrie jusqu'à ce qu'elle soit abattue.

11 And all the Prophets prophesied so, saying, Go vp to Ramoth Gilead, and prosper: for the Lord shall deliuer it into the hand of the King.

Et tous les prophètes prédisaient ainsi: Marche sur Ramoth-Galaad, et tu réussiras, et le Seigneur livrera à tes mains le roi de Syrie.

12 And the messenger that went to call Michaiah, spake to him, saying, Beholde, the wordes of the Prophets declare good to the King with one accord: let thy word therefore, I pray thee, be like one of theirs, and speake thou good.

Et le messager qui était allé querir Michée dit à celui-ci: Tous les prophètes n'ont qu'une voix pour dire de bonnes choses concernant le roi; que tes paroles soient comme celles de l'un d'eux, et tu auras bien parlé.

13 And Michaiah saide, As the Lord liueth, whatsoeuer my God saith, that will I speake.

Mais Michée répondit: Vive le Seigneur! ce que le Seigneur me dira, je le répèterai.

14 So he came to the King, and the King said vnto him, Michaiah, shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battel, or shall I leaue off? And he said, Goe yee vp, and prosper, and they shalbe deliuered into your hand.

Et il alla devant le roi, et le roi lui dit: Michée, dois je aller en guerre à Ramoth-Galaad, ou m'en abstenir? Et il répondit: Marche, et tu réussiras, et ils te seront livrés.

15 And the King sayd to him, Howe oft shall I charge thee, that thou tell mee nothing but the trueth in the Name of the Lord?

Et le roi lui dit: Combien de fois t'adjurerai-je pour que tu ne me dises rien que la vérité au nom du Seigneur?

16 Then he said, I saw al Israel scattered in the mountaines, as sheepe that haue no shepheard: and the Lord sayd, These haue no Master: let them returne euery man to his house in peace.

Et Michée reprit: J'ai vu Israël dispersé sur les montagnes, comme un troupeau sans pasteur. Et le Seigneur a dit: Ces hommes n'ont point de chef, que chacun retourne en paix dans sa maison.

17 And the King of Israel sayde to Iehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee, that he would not prophesie good vnto me, but euill?

Et le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat, roi de Juda: Ne t'ai-je point dit qu'à mon sujet il ne prophétisait jamais le bien, mais toujours le mal?

18 Againe hee saide, Therefore heare ye the worde of the Lord: I sawe the Lord sit vpon his throne, and all the hoste of heauen standing at his right hand, and at his left.

Michée reprit: Il n'en est pas ainsi; écoutez la parole du Seigneur: J'ai vu le Seigneur assis sur son trône, et toute l'armée du ciel se tenait auprès de lui à sa droite et à sa gauche.

19 And the Lord sayd, Who shall perswade Ahab King of Israel, that he may go vp, and fall at Ramoth Gilead? And one spake and said thus, and another said that.

Et le Seigneur a dit: Qui trompera Achab, roi d'Israël, pour qu'il parte et succombe à Ramoth-Galaad? Et l'un répondit au Seigneur d'une sorte, l'autre différemment.

20 Then there came forth a spirit and stoode before the Lord, and said, I will perswade him. And the Lord said vnto him, Wherein?

Et l'esprit sortit des rangs, et il se plaça devant le Seigneur, et il dit: C'est moi qui le tromperai. Et le Seigneur reprit: De quelle manière?

21 And he saide, I will goe out, and bee a false spirit in the mouth of all his Prophets. And hee said, Thou shalt perswade, and shalt also preuaile: goe forth and do so.

Et il dit: Je partirai, et je serai un esprit trompeur en la bouche de tous ses prophètes. Et le Seigneur dit: Tu le tromperas, et tu prévaudras; va, et fais ce que tu as dit.

22 Now therefore behold, the Lord hath put a false spirit in the mouth of these thy Prophets, and the Lord hath determined euill against thee.

Maintenant donc, voici que le Seigneur a placé un esprit trompeur en la bouche de tous tes prophètes, et le Seigneur t'a annoncé le mal.

23 Then Zidkiah the sonne of Chenaanah came neere, and smote Michaiah vpon the cheeke, and sayde, By what way went the Spirit of the Lord from me, to speake with thee?

Alors, Sédécias le Chananéen s'avança, frappa Michée à la joue, et dit: Par quel chemin l'Esprit du Seigneur est-il sorti de moi pour te parler à toi?

24 And Michaiah saide, Behold, thou shalt see that day when thou shalt goe from chamber to chamber to hide thee.

Et Michée reprit: Tu le verras le jour où tu passeras de chambre en chambre pour te cacher.

25 And the King of Israel sayde, Take ye Michaiah, and cary him to Amon the gouernour of the citie, and to Ioash the Kings sonne,

Et le roi d'Israël s'écria: Que l'on saisisse Michée; menez-le chez Emer, gouverneur de la ville, et chez le prince Joas, fils du roi,

26 And say, Thus saith the King, Put this man in the prison house, and feede him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction vntil I returne in peace.

Et dites: Voici ce que dit le roi: Emprisonnez cet homme; qu'il se nourrisse du pain et de l'eau de l'affiction jusqu'à je revienne en paix.

27 And Michaiah said, If thou returne in peace, the Lord hath not spoken by me. And he saide, Heare, all ye people.

Et Michée reprit: Si tu reviens en paix, le Seigneur n'a point parlé par ma bouche. Et il ajouta: Peuple, écoutez-moi tous.

28 So the King of Israel and Iehoshaphat the King of Iudah went vp to Ramoth Gilead.

Après cela, le roi d'Israël partit avec Josaphat, roi de Juda, pour Ramoth-Galaad.

29 And the King of Israel said vnto Iehoshaphat, I will change my selfe, and enter into the battel: but put thou on thine apparel. So the King of Israel changed himselfe, and they went into the battel.

Et le roi d'Israël dit au roi de Juda: Aide-moi à me déguiser, et j'engagerai la bataille, et toi tu auras mes vêtements. Le roi d'Israël se déguisa donc, et il engagea la bataille.

30 And the King of Aram had commanded the captaines of the charets that were with him, saying, Fight you not with small, nor great, but against the King of Israel onely.

Et le roi de Syrie donna cet ordre aux chefs des chars qui l'accompagnaient: N'attaquez ni petit ni grand, mais le seul roi d'Israël.

31 And when the captaines of the charets saw Iehoshaphat, they sayde, It is the King of Israel: and they compassed about him to fight. But Iehoshaphat cryed, and the Lord helped him and moued them to depart from him.

Et ceci advint: quand les chefs des chars virent Josaphat, roi de Juda, ils se dirent: C'est le roi d'Israël. Et ils l'entourèrent pour l'attaquer; mais Josaphat cria au Seigneur, et le Seigneur voulut le sauver, et Dieu les détourna de lui.

32 For when the captaines of the charets saw that hee was not the King of Israel, they turned backe from him.

Et quand les chefs des chars virent que ce n'était pas le roi d'Israël, ils s'éloignèrent de lui.

33 Then a certaine man drewe a bowe mightily, and smote the King of Israel betweene the ioyntes of his brigandine: Therefore he saide to his charetman, Turne thine hand, and carie mee out of the host: for I am hurt.

Alors, un homme adroit, ayant tendu son arc, frappa le roi d'Israël au flanc, au défaut de la cuirasse; et le roi dit à son cocher: Tourne bride, emmène-moi hors de la mêlée, car j'ai une blessure.

34 And the battel increased that day: and the King of Israel stood still in his charet against the Aramites vntil euen, and dyed at the time of the sunne going downe.

Et la bataille fut perdue pour lui ce jour-là, et il resta jusqu'au soir sur son char, en face de l'armée syrienne, et, au soleil couchant, il mourut.
