2 Chronicles 12
1 And when Rehoboam had established the kingdome and made it strong, hee forsooke the Lawe of the Lord, and all Israel with him.
Lorsque Roboam se fut affermi dans son royaume et qu’il eut acquis de la force, il abandonna la loi de l’Éternel, et tout Israël l’abandonna avec lui.
2 Therefore in the fift yeere of King Rehoboam, Shishak the King of Egypt came vp against Ierusalem (because they had transgressed against the Lord)
La cinquième année du règne de Roboam, Schischak, roi d’Égypte, monta contre Jérusalem, parce qu’ils avaient péché contre l’Éternel.
3 With twelue hundreth charets, and three score thousande horsemen, and the people were without nomber, that came with him from Egypt, euen the Lubims, Sukkiims, and the Ethiopians.
Il avait mille deux cents chars et soixante mille cavaliers; et il vint d’Égypte avec lui un peuple innombrable, des Libyens, des Sukkiens et des Éthiopiens.
4 And he tooke the strong cities which were of Iudah, and came vnto Ierusalem.
Il prit les villes fortes qui appartenaient à Juda, et arriva jusqu’à Jérusalem.
5 Then came Shemaiah the Prophet to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Iudah, that were gathered together in Hierusalem, because of Shishak, and sayde vnto them, Thus sayth the Lord, Ye haue forsaken me, therefore haue I also left you in the handes of Shishak.
Alors Schemaeja, le prophète, se rendit auprès de Roboam et des chefs de Juda qui s’étaient retirés dans Jérusalem à l’approche de Schischak, et il leur dit: Ainsi parle l’Éternel: Vous m’avez abandonné; je vous abandonne aussi, et je vous livre entre les mains de Schischak.
6 Then the princes of Israel, and the King humbled themselues, and sayde, The Lord is iust.
Les chefs d’Israël et le roi s’humilièrent et dirent: L’Éternel est juste!
7 And when the Lord sawe that they humbled themselues, the worde of the Lord came to Shemaiah, saying, They haue humbled theselues, therefore I will not destroy them, but I will sende them deliuerance shortly, and my wrath shall not bee powred out vpon Ierusalem by the hand of Shishak.
Et quand l’Éternel vit qu’ils s’humiliaient, la parole de l’Éternel fut ainsi adressée à Schemaeja: Ils se sont humiliés, je ne les détruirai pas, je ne tarderai pas à les secourir, et ma colère ne se répandra pas sur Jérusalem par Schischak;
8 Neuerthelesse they shalbe his sernants: so shall they knowe my seruice, and the seruice of the kingdomes of the earth.
mais ils lui seront assujettis, et ils sauront ce que c’est que me servir ou servir les royaumes des autres pays.
9 Then Shishak King of Egypt came vp against Ierusalem, and tooke the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the Kings house he tooke euen all, and hee caried away the shields of golde, which Salomon had made.
Schischak, roi d’Égypte, monta contre Jérusalem. Il prit les trésors de la maison de l’Éternel et les trésors de la maison du roi, il prit tout. Il prit les boucliers d’or que Salomon avait faits.
10 In stead whereof King Rehoboam made shieldes of brasse, and committed them to the handes of the chiefe of the garde, that wayted at the doore of the Kings house.
Le roi Roboam fit à leur place des boucliers d’airain, et il les remit aux soins des chefs des coureurs, qui gardaient l’entrée de la maison du roi.
11 And when the King entred into the house of the Lord, the garde came and bare them and brought them againe vnto the garde chamber.
Toutes les fois que le roi allait à la maison de l’Éternel, les coureurs venaient et les portaient; puis ils les rapportaient dans la chambre des coureurs.
12 And because hee humbled himselfe, the wrath of the Lord turned from him, that hee woulde not destroy all together. And also in Iudah the things prospered.
Comme Roboam s’était humilié, l’Éternel détourna de lui sa colère et ne le détruisit pas entièrement. Et il y avait encore de bonnes choses en Juda.
13 So King Rehoboam was strong in Ierusalem and reigned: for Rehoboam was one and fourtie yere olde, when he began to reigne, and reigned seuenteene yeres in Ierusalem, the citie which the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel to put his Name there. And his mothers name was Naamah an Ammonitesse.
Le roi Roboam s’affermit dans Jérusalem et régna. Il avait quarante et un ans lorsqu’il devint roi, et il régna dix-sept ans à Jérusalem, la ville que l’Éternel avait choisie sur toutes les tribus d’Israël pour y mettre son nom. Sa mère s’appelait Naama, l’Ammonite.
14 And he did euill: for hee prepared not his heart to seeke the Lord.
Il fit le mal, parce qu’il n’appliqua pas son cœur à chercher l’Éternel.
15 The actes also of Rehoboam, first and last, are they not written in the booke of Shemaiah the Prophet, and Iddo the Seer, in rehearsing the genealogie? and there was warre alway betweene Rehoboam and Ieroboam.
Les actions de Roboam, les premières et les dernières, ne sont-elles pas écrites dans les livres de Schemaeja, le prophète et d’Iddo, le prophète, parmi les registres généalogiques? Il y eut toujours guerre entre Roboam et Jéroboam.
16 And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the citie of Dauid, and Abiiah his sonne reigned in his stead.
Roboam se coucha avec ses pères, et il fut enterré dans la ville de David. Et Abija, son fils, régna à sa place.
