2 Chronicles 12
1 And when Rehoboam had established the kingdome and made it strong, hee forsooke the Lawe of the Lord, and all Israel with him.
Une fois que Roboam eut affermi sa royauté et fut devenu puissant, il abandonna la Loi de l’Eternel, suivi de tout Israël.
2 Therefore in the fift yeere of King Rehoboam, Shishak the King of Egypt came vp against Ierusalem (because they had transgressed against the Lord)
Dans la cinquième année du règne de Roboam, Sésak, roi d’Egypte, vint attaquer Jérusalem, parce qu’on était devenu infidèle au Seigneur;
3 With twelue hundreth charets, and three score thousande horsemen, and the people were without nomber, that came with him from Egypt, euen the Lubims, Sukkiims, and the Ethiopians.
il disposait de douze cents chars, de soixante mille cavaliers. Innombrable était la multitude venue avec lui d’Egypte et composée de Libyens, de Soukkiites et d’Ethiopiens.
4 And he tooke the strong cities which were of Iudah, and came vnto Ierusalem.
Il s’empara des villes fortes de Juda et arriva jusqu’à Jérusalem.
5 Then came Shemaiah the Prophet to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Iudah, that were gathered together in Hierusalem, because of Shishak, and sayde vnto them, Thus sayth the Lord, Ye haue forsaken me, therefore haue I also left you in the handes of Shishak.
Alors Chemaya, le prophète, vint trouver Roboam et les grands de Juda qui s’étaient retirés à Jérusalem à l’approche de Sésak, et leur dit: "Ainsi parle le Seigneur: Vous m’avez abandonné, à mon tour je vous abandonne à la merci de Sésak."
6 Then the princes of Israel, and the King humbled themselues, and sayde, The Lord is iust.
Les grands d’Israël et Roboam s’humilièrent et dirent: "L’Eternel est juste!"
7 And when the Lord sawe that they humbled themselues, the worde of the Lord came to Shemaiah, saying, They haue humbled theselues, therefore I will not destroy them, but I will sende them deliuerance shortly, and my wrath shall not bee powred out vpon Ierusalem by the hand of Shishak.
Le Seigneur, voyant qu’ils s’humiliaient, s’adressa à Chemaya en ces termes: "Ils se sont humiliés, je ne les détruirai point; mais encore un peu, j’assurerai leur salut, et mon courroux ne fondra pas sur Jérusalem par l’entremise de Sésak.
8 Neuerthelesse they shalbe his sernants: so shall they knowe my seruice, and the seruice of the kingdomes of the earth.
Mais quand ils lui seront asservis, ils sauront ce que c’est de me servir ou de servir les royaumes étrangers."
9 Then Shishak King of Egypt came vp against Ierusalem, and tooke the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the Kings house he tooke euen all, and hee caried away the shields of golde, which Salomon had made.
Sésak, roi d’Egypte, marcha donc contre Jérusalem: il s’empara des trésors de la maison du Seigneur et de ceux de la maison du roi, et emporta le tout. Il enleva aussi les boucliers d’or qu’avait fait faire Salomon.
10 In stead whereof King Rehoboam made shieldes of brasse, and committed them to the handes of the chiefe of the garde, that wayted at the doore of the Kings house.
Le roi Roboam les remplaça par des boucliers de cuivre, dont il confia la garde aux chefs des coureurs chargés de surveiller l’entrée du palais royal.
11 And when the King entred into the house of the Lord, the garde came and bare them and brought them againe vnto the garde chamber.
Chaque fois que le roi se rendait à la maison du Seigneur, les coureurs venaient porter les boucliers, puis les replaçaient dans leur salle de service.
12 And because hee humbled himselfe, the wrath of the Lord turned from him, that hee woulde not destroy all together. And also in Iudah the things prospered.
Comme il s’était humilié, la colère de l’Eternel se détourna de lui et n’acheva point sa ruine. Aussi bien, Juda avait conservé de bonnes qualités.
13 So King Rehoboam was strong in Ierusalem and reigned: for Rehoboam was one and fourtie yere olde, when he began to reigne, and reigned seuenteene yeres in Ierusalem, the citie which the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel to put his Name there. And his mothers name was Naamah an Ammonitesse.
Le roi Roboam s’affermit dans Jérusalem et continua de régner. En effet, Roboam était âgé de quarante et un ans à son avènement et il régna dix-sept ans à Jérusalem, la ville que le Seigneur avait choisie entre toutes les tribus d’Israël pour y faire dominer son nom. Sa mère se nommait Naama; elle était Ammonite.
14 And he did euill: for hee prepared not his heart to seeke the Lord.
Il fit le mal, car il n’avait pas appliqué son cœur à rechercher l’Eternel.
15 The actes also of Rehoboam, first and last, are they not written in the booke of Shemaiah the Prophet, and Iddo the Seer, in rehearsing the genealogie? and there was warre alway betweene Rehoboam and Ieroboam.
L’Histoire de Roboam, du début à la fin, se trouve consignée dans le récit du prophète Schemaya et du Voyant Iddo, avec les livres de généalogie. La guerre fut permanente entre Roboam et Jéroboam.
16 And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the citie of Dauid, and Abiiah his sonne reigned in his stead.
Roboam s’endormit avec ses pères et fut enseveli dans la Cité de David. Il eut pour successeur son fils Abiyya.
