1 Timothy 1
1 Pavl an Apostle of Iesvs Christ, by the commandement of God our Sauiour, and of our Lord Iesus Christ our hope,
Paul, apôtre de Jésus-Christ, suivant l'ordre de Dieu, notre Sauveur, et de Jésus-Christ, notre espérance, —
2 Vnto Timotheus my naturall sonne in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father, and from Christ Iesus our Lord.
à Timothée, mon vrai fils en la foi. Que la grâce, la miséricorde et la paix te soient données de la part de Dieu, le Père, et de Jésus-Christ, notre Seigneur!
3 As I besought thee to abide still in Ephesus, when I departed into Macedonia, so doe, that thou mayest warne some, that they teach none other doctrine,
Je te rappelle la recommandation que je te fis, en partant pour la Macédoine, de rester à Éphèse, afin d'avertir certaines personnes de ne pas enseigner une autre doctrine,
4 Neither that they giue heede to fables and genealogies which are endles, which breede questions rather then godly edifying which is by fayth.
et de ne pas s'attacher à des fables et à des généalogies sans fin, qui provoquent des disputes, au lieu de contribuer au développement de l'oeuvre de Dieu, qui s'accomplit par la foi.
5 For the end of the commandement is loue out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith vnfained.
La recommandation que je t'adresse a pour but de t'exhorter à la charité qui procède d'un coeur pur, d'une bonne conscience et d'une foi sincère.
6 From the which things some haue erred, and haue turned vnto vaine iangling.
Quelques-uns, ayant perdu ces choses de vue, se sont égarés dans de vains discours:
7 They would be doctours of the Law, and yet vnderstande not what they speake, neither whereof they affirme.
ils veulent être docteurs de la loi, et ils ne comprennent ni ce qu'ils disent, ni ce qu'ils affirment.
8 And we knowe, that the Law is good, if a man vse it lawfully,
Or, nous savons que la loi est bonne pour celui qui en fait un usage légitime,
9 Knowing this, that the Lawe is not giuen vnto a righteous man, but vnto the lawles and disobedient, to the vngodly, and to sinners, to the vnholy, and to the prophane, to murtherers of fathers and mothers, to manslayers,
et qui sait bien que la loi n'a pas été établie pour le juste, mais pour les injustes et les rebelles, pour les impies et les pécheurs, les gens sans religion et les profanes, les meurtriers de père ou de mère et les homicides;
10 To whoremongers, to buggerers, to menstealers, to lyers, to the periured, and if there be any other thing, that is contrary to wholesome doctrine,
pour les impudiques, les infâmes, les voleurs d'hommes, les menteurs, les parjures, et pour quiconque s'oppose à la saine doctrine:
11 Which is according to the glorious Gospel of the blessed God, which is committed vnto me.
c'est là ce qu'enseigne le glorieux Évangile du Dieu bienheureux, dont la prédication m'a été confiée.
12 Therefore I thanke him, which hath made me strong, that is, Christ Iesus our Lord: for he counted me faithfull, and put me in his seruice:
Je rends grâces à celui qui m'a fortifié, Jésus-Christ, notre Seigneur, de ce qu'il m'a jugé fidèle et m'a établi dans le ministère,
13 When before I was a blasphemer, and a persecuter, and an oppresser: but I was receiued to mercie: for I did it ignorantly through vnbeliefe.
moi, qui étais auparavant un blasphémateur, un persécuteur, un homme violent; mais j'ai obtenu miséricorde, parce que j'ai agi par ignorance, étant dans l'incrédulité.
14 But the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and loue, which is in Christ Iesus.
Et la grâce de notre Seigneur a surabondé en moi avec la foi et la charité qui est en Jésus-Christ.
15 This is a true saying, and by all meanes worthy to be receiued, that Christ Iesus came into the worlde to saue sinners, of whom I am chiefe.
C'est une parole certaine et digne d'être reçue avec une entière confiance, que Jésus-Christ est venu dans le monde pour sauver les pécheurs, dont je suis le premier.
16 Notwithstanding, for this cause was I receiued to mercie, that Iesus Christ should first shewe on me all long suffering vnto the ensample of them, which shall in time to come beleeue in him vnto eternall life. (aiōnios g166)
Mais j'ai obtenu miséricorde, afin qu'en moi, le premier, Jésus-Christ manifestât toute sa clémence, et qu'il me fît servir d'exemple à ceux qui croiront en lui pour avoir la vie éternelle. (aiōnios g166)
17 Nowe vnto the King euerlasting, immortall, inuisible, vnto God onely wise, be honour and glorie, for euer, and euer, Amen. (aiōn g165)
Au Roi des siècles, immortel, invisible, seul Dieu, soient honneur et gloire aux siècles des siècles! Amen. (aiōn g165)
18 This commandement commit I vnto thee, sonne Timotheus, according to the prophecies, which went before vpon thee, that thou by them shouldest fight a good fight,
La recommandation que je t'adresse, Timothée, mon enfant, selon les prophéties qui ont été faites à ton sujet, c'est que, soutenu par elles, tu combattes le bon combat,
19 Hauing faith and a good conscience, which some haue put away, and as concerning faith, haue made shipwracke.
en gardant la foi et une bonne conscience. Quelques-uns ayant renoncé à cette bonne conscience, leur foi a fait naufrage:
20 Of whom is Hymeneus, and Alexander, whom I haue deliuered vnto Satan, that they might learne not to blaspheme.
de ce nombre sont Hyménée et Alexandre, que j'ai livrés à Satan, afin qu'ils apprennent à ne plus blasphémer.
