1 Timothy 1

1 Pavl an Apostle of Iesvs Christ, by the commandement of God our Sauiour, and of our Lord Iesus Christ our hope,

Paul Apôtre de Jésus-Christ par le commandement de Dieu notre Sauveur, et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ, notre espérance:

2 Vnto Timotheus my naturall sonne in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father, and from Christ Iesus our Lord.

A Timothée mon vrai fils en la foi; que la grâce, la miséricorde et la paix te soient données de la part de Dieu notre Père, et de la part de Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur.

3 As I besought thee to abide still in Ephesus, when I departed into Macedonia, so doe, that thou mayest warne some, that they teach none other doctrine,

Suivant la prière que je te fis de demeurer à Ephèse, lorsque j'allais en Macédoine, [je te prie encore] d'annoncer à certaines personnes de n'enseigner point une autre doctrine;

4 Neither that they giue heede to fables and genealogies which are endles, which breede questions rather then godly edifying which is by fayth.

Et de ne s'adonner point aux fables et aux généalogies, qui sont sans fin, et qui produisent plutôt des disputes, que l'édification de Dieu, laquelle consiste en la foi.

5 For the end of the commandement is loue out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith vnfained.

Or la fin du Commandement, c'est la charité qui procède d'un cœur pur, et d'une bonne conscience, et d'une foi sincère:

6 From the which things some haue erred, and haue turned vnto vaine iangling.

Desquelles choses quelques-uns s'étant écartés, se sont détournés à un vain babil.

7 They would be doctours of the Law, and yet vnderstande not what they speake, neither whereof they affirme.

Voulant être docteurs de la Loi, [mais] n'entendant point ni ce qu'ils disent, ni ce qu'ils assurent.

8 And we knowe, that the Law is good, if a man vse it lawfully,

Or nous savons que la Loi est bonne, si quelqu'un en use légitimement.

9 Knowing this, that the Lawe is not giuen vnto a righteous man, but vnto the lawles and disobedient, to the vngodly, and to sinners, to the vnholy, and to the prophane, to murtherers of fathers and mothers, to manslayers,

Sachant ceci, que la Loi n'est point donnée pour le juste, mais pour les iniques, et pour ceux qui ne se peuvent point ranger; pour ceux qui sont sans piété, et qui vivent mal; pour des gens sans religion, et pour les profanes; pour les meurtriers de père et de mère, et pour les homicides;

10 To whoremongers, to buggerers, to menstealers, to lyers, to the periured, and if there be any other thing, that is contrary to wholesome doctrine,

Pour les fornicateurs, pour ceux qui commettent des péchés contre nature, pour ceux qui dérobent des hommes, pour les menteurs, pour les parjures, et contre telle autre chose qui est contraire à la saine doctrine;

11 Which is according to the glorious Gospel of the blessed God, which is committed vnto me.

Suivant l'Evangile de la gloire de Dieu bienheureux, lequel [Evangile] m'a été commis.

12 Therefore I thanke him, which hath made me strong, that is, Christ Iesus our Lord: for he counted me faithfull, and put me in his seruice:

Et je rends grâces à celui qui m'a fortifié, [c'est-à-dire], à Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur, de ce qu'il m'a estimé fidèle, m'ayant établi dans le Ministère;

13 When before I was a blasphemer, and a persecuter, and an oppresser: but I was receiued to mercie: for I did it ignorantly through vnbeliefe.

[Moi] qui auparavant étais un blasphémateur, et un persécuteur, et un oppresseur, mais j'ai obtenu miséricorde parce que j'ai agi par ignorance, [étant] dans l'infidélité.

14 But the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and loue, which is in Christ Iesus.

Or la grâce de Notre-Seigneur a surabondé [en moi], avec la foi, et avec l'amour qui est [en] Jésus-Christ.

15 This is a true saying, and by all meanes worthy to be receiued, that Christ Iesus came into the worlde to saue sinners, of whom I am chiefe.

Cette parole est certaine, et digne d'être entièrement reçue, que Jésus-Christ est venu au monde pour sauver les pécheurs, desquels je suis le premier.

16 Notwithstanding, for this cause was I receiued to mercie, that Iesus Christ should first shewe on me all long suffering vnto the ensample of them, which shall in time to come beleeue in him vnto eternall life. (aiōnios g166)

Mais j'ai obtenu grâce, afin que Jésus-Christ montrât en moi le premier toute sa clémence, pour servir d'exemple à ceux qui viendront à croire en lui pour la vie éternelle. (aiōnios g166)

17 Nowe vnto the King euerlasting, immortall, inuisible, vnto God onely wise, be honour and glorie, for euer, and euer, Amen. (aiōn g165)

Or au Roi des siècles, immortel, invisible, à Dieu seul sage soit honneur et gloire aux siècles des siècles, Amen! (aiōn g165)

18 This commandement commit I vnto thee, sonne Timotheus, according to the prophecies, which went before vpon thee, that thou by them shouldest fight a good fight,

Mon fils Timothée, je te recommande ce commandement, que conformément aux prophéties qui auparavant ont été faites de toi, tu t'acquittes, selon elles, du devoir de combattre en cette bonne guerre;

19 Hauing faith and a good conscience, which some haue put away, and as concerning faith, haue made shipwracke.

Gardant la foi avec une bonne conscience, laquelle quelques-uns ayant rejetée, ont fait naufrage quant à la foi;

20 Of whom is Hymeneus, and Alexander, whom I haue deliuered vnto Satan, that they might learne not to blaspheme.

Entre lesquels sont Hyménée et Alexandre, que j'ai livrés à satan, afin qu'ils apprennent par ce châtiment à ne plus blasphémer.
