1 Timothy 3
1 This is a true saying, If any man desire the office of a Bishop, he desireth a worthie worke.
Esta afirmação é verdadeira: “Se alguém pretende ser um bispo na igreja, esse é um bom trabalho a se querer.”
2 A Bishop therefore must be vnreproueable, the husband of one wife, watching, temperate, modest, harberous, apt to teache,
Um bispo deve ser alguém acima de qualquer suspeita, ser casado apenas com uma esposa, ter autocontrole, ser equilibrado, sensível, acolhedor e ter capacidade para ensinar.
3 Not giuen to wine, no striker, not giuen to filthy lucre, but gentle, no fighter, not couetous,
Ele não deve ser chegado ao vinho ou se tornar violento e, sim, ser gentil. Também não deve ser questionador ou amar o dinheiro.
4 One that can rule his owne house honestly, hauing children vnder obedience with all honestie.
Ele deve conduzir bem a sua família. Os seus filhos devem respeitar o que ele lhes diz.
5 For if any cannot rule his owne house, how shall he care for the Church of God?
Pois, se um homem não sabe como controlar a sua própria família, como ele poderá cuidar da igreja de Deus?
6 He may not be a yong scholer, lest he being puffed vp fall into the condemnation of the deuill.
Ele não deve ser alguém que tenha se convertido há pouco tempo, pois, caso ele se torne muito arrogante, sofrerá a mesma condenação que o diabo.
7 He must also be well reported of, euen of them which are without, lest he fall into rebuke, and the snare of the deuill.
As pessoas que não fazem parte da igreja também devem falar bem dele, para que ele não seja desacreditado e caia na armadilha do diabo.
8 Likewise must Deacons be graue, not double tongued, not giuen vnto much wine, neither to filthy lucre,
Da mesma maneira, os diáconos devem ser dignos e, não, hipócritas. Eles não devem beber muito vinho e não devem tentar se enriquecer de forma desonesta.
9 Hauing the mysterie of the faith in pure conscience.
Eles devem se apegar à verdade revelada sobre Deus, crendo nele com uma consciência pura.
10 And let them first be proued: then let them minister, if they be found blameles.
Eles devem ser testados primeiro e, se não houver nada contra eles, então, podem se tornar diáconos.
11 Likewise their wiues must be honest, not euill speakers, but sober, and faithfull in all things.
As esposas dos diáconos também devem ser pessoas dignas. Elas não devem fazer fofocas a respeito dos outros e devem ter autocontrole e serem confiáveis em tudo o que fazem.
12 Let the Deacons be the husbands of one wife, and such as can rule their children well, and their owne housholdes.
Os diáconos devem ter apenas uma única esposa, devem cuidar bem dos seus filhos e de suas casas.
13 For they that haue ministred well, get them selues a good degree, and great libertie in the faith, which is in Christ Iesus.
Aqueles que trabalham bem como diáconos ganham o respeito dos irmãos e muita confiança em sua fé em Cristo Jesus.
14 These things write I vnto thee, trusting to come very shortly vnto thee.
Embora eu espere vê-lo logo, estou escrevendo sobre tudo isso a você para que,
15 But if I tary long, that thou maist yet know, how thou oughtest to behaue thy self in ye house of God, which is the Church of the liuing God, the pillar and ground of trueth.
seu eu me atrasar, você saberá como as pessoas devem se comportar na casa de Deus. Esta é a igreja do Deus vivo, o pilar de apoio e a fundação da verdade.
16 And without controuersie, great is the mysterie of godlinesse, which is, God is manifested in the flesh, iustified in the Spirit, seene of Angels, preached vnto the Gentiles, beleeued on in the world, and receiued vp in glorie.
Não há dúvida em relação a isto: a verdade revelada sobre Deus é maravilhosa! Nós o conhecemos em sua forma humana. Ele foi aprovado pelo Espírito e visto pelos anjos. Foi anunciado para as nações, e o mundo creu nele. E finalmente retornou em glória!
