1 Samuel 1
1 There was a man of one of the two Ramathaim Zophim, of mount Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah the sonne of Ieroham, the sonne of Elihu, the sonne of Tohu, the sonne of Zuph, an Ephrathite:
Il y avait dans les montagnes d'Ephraïm un homme d'Armathaïm-Sipha; il se nommait Elcana, fils de Jéréméel, fils d'Eliu, fils de Thocé, l'un des Nasib d'Ephraïm.
2 And he had two wiues: the name of one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
Il avait deux femmes: le nom de la première était Anne; le nom de la seconde, Phenenna; or, Phenenna avait des enfants, et Anne n'en avait point.
3 And this man went vp out of his citie euery yeere, to worship and to sacrifice vnto the Lord of hostes in Shiloh, where were the two sonnes of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas Priests of the Lord.
Les jours s'écoulèrent, et l'homme partit de la ville d'Armathaïm pour adorer le Seigneur Dieu sabaoth, et lui sacrifier en Silo; Héli et ses deux fils Ophni et Phinéès étaient alors prêtres du Seigneur.
4 And on a day, when Elkanah sacrificed, he gaue to Peninnah his wife and to all her sonnes and daughters portions,
Le jour venu, Elcana sacrifia; puis, il donna des parts à Phenenna, sa femme, et à ses fils.
5 But vnto Hannah he gaue a worthy portion: for he loued Hannah, and the Lord had made her barren.
Mais il ne donna qu'une part à Anne, parce qu'elle n'avait pas d'enfants. Cependant, Elcana aimait Anne plus que la première; et le Seigneur avait clos ses entrailles;
6 And her aduersarie vexed her sore, forasmuch as she vpbraided her, because the Lord had made her barren.
Car le Seigneur, quels que fussent son affliction et l'abattement causé par son affliction, ne lui avait point donné d'enfants. Elle était découragée, parce que le Seigneur avait clos ses entrailles, et ne lui avait point donné d'enfants.
7 (And so did he yeere by yeere) and as oft as she went vp to the house of the Lord, thus she vexed her, that she wept and did not eate.
Les choses se passaient de la sorte tous les ans lorsqu'elle montait à la maison du Seigneur; elle était abattue, et elle pleurait, et elle ne mangeait point.
8 Then sayd Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thine heart troubled? am not I better to thee then ten sonnes?
Et son époux Elcana lui dit: Anne; et elle répondit: Me voici, seigneur; et il reprit: Qu'as-tu à pleurer? Pourquoi ne manges-tu point? Pourquoi ton cœur te fait-il souffrir? Ne suis-je pas pour toi meilleur que dix enfants?
9 So Hannah rose vp after that they had eaten and drunke in Shiloh (and Eli the Priest sate vpon a stoole by one of the postes of the Temple of the Lord)
Et, après qu'ils eurent mangé à Silo, Anne se leva, puis elle alla se placer devant le Seigneur, pendant qu'Héli le prêtre était sur son siège, devant le seuil du temple du Seigneur.
10 And she was troubled in her minde, and prayed vnto the Lord, and wept sore:
Là, tout affligée en son cœur, elle fit au Seigneur une prière, et elle se prit à pleurer amèrement.
11 Also she vowed a vowe, and sayd, O Lord of hostes, if thou wilt looke on the trouble of thine handmaide, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaide, but giue vnto thine handmaide a manchilde, then I will giue him vnto the Lord all the dayes of his life, and there shall no rasor come vpon his head.
Et elle fit un vœu au Seigneur, disant: Adonaï, Seigneur, Eloé sabaoth, si vous jetez les yeux sur l'humiliation de votre servante, si vous vous souvenez de moi, si vous donnez à votre servante un fils, je vous le consacrerai jusqu'au jour de sa mort; il ne boira ni vin ni boisson enivrante, et le fer ne passera jamais sur sa tête.
12 And as she continued praying before the Lord, Eli marked her mouth.
Et pendant qu'elle prolongeait sa prière devant le Seigneur, Héli le prêtre était attentif au mouvement de ses lèvres,
13 For Hannah spake in her heart: her lips did moue onely, but her voyce was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had bene drunken.
Car elle parlait en son cœur, et elle remuait les lèvres, mais on n'entendait point sa voix; or, Héli la crut ivre.
14 And Eli sayde vnto her, Howe long wilt thou be drunken? Put away thy drunkennesse from thee.
Et le serviteur d'Héli alla lui dire: Jusqu'à quand seras-tu donc ivre? Va-t'en avec ton vin; retire-toi de devant le Seigneur.
15 Then Hannah answered and sayd, Nay my lord, but I am a woman troubled in spirit: I haue drunke neither wine nor strong drinke, but haue powred out my soule before the Lord.
Anne répondit, et elle dit au prêtre: Non, seigneur, je suis aujourd'hui une femme pleine d'affliction, je n'ai bu ni vin ni boisson enivrante, et je répands mon âme devant le Seigneur.
16 Count not thine handmaide for a wicked woman: for of the abundance of my complaint and my griefe haue I spoken hitherto.
Ne prends pas ta servante pour une fille de pestilence; c'est à cause de l'abondance de mes méditations que j'ai prolongé jusqu'à ce moment ma prière.
17 Then Eli answered, and sayd, Go in peace, and the God of Israel graunt thy petition that thou hast asked of him.
Héli reprenant, lui dit: Va en paix, que le Dieu d'Israël t'accorde toute ta prière, tout ce que tu lui as demandé.
18 She sayd againe, Let thine handmayd finde grace in thy sight: so the woman went her way, and did eate, and looked no more sad.
Alors, elle dit: Ta servante a trouvé grâce devant tes yeux. Et la femme s'en alla, elle rentra à son logis, elle mangea et but avec son mari, et son visage cessa d'être abattu.
19 Then they rose vp early, and worshipped before the Lord, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah. Nowe Elkanah knewe Hannah his wife, and the Lord remembred her.
Ensuite, s'étant levés de grand matin, ils adorèrent le Seigneur, et reprirent leur chemin; Elcana rentra dans sa maison d'Armathaïm, et il connut Anne; or, le Seigneur se souvint d'elle, et elle conçut.
20 For in processe of time Hannah conceiued, and bare a sonne, and she called his name Samuel, Because, said she, I haue asked him of the Lord.
Le temps révolu, elle enfanta un fils, et elle l'appela Samuel, parce que, dit-elle, je l'avais demandé au Seigneur Dieu sabaoth.
21 So the man Elkanah and all his house went vp to offer vnto the Lord the yeerely sacrifice, and his vowe:
Or, son époux Elcana, avec toute sa famille, monta à Silo pour offrir au Seigneur le sacrifice de la saison, ses oblations votives, et la dîme de tous les fruits de ses champs.
22 But Hannah went not vp: for she sayd vnto her husband, I will tarie vntill the childe be weined, then I will bring him that hee may appeare before the Lord, and there abide for euer.
Mais Anne ne partit pas avec lui, et elle dit à son époux: J'irai quand l'enfant ira, quand je l'aurai sevré, et qu'il sera présenté au Seigneur pour y rester toujours.
23 And Elkanah her husband sayd vnto her, Do what seemeth thee best: tarie vntill thou hast weined him: only the Lord accomplish his word. So the woman abode, and gaue her sonne sucke vntill she weined him.
Son époux Elcana lui répondit: Fais ce que bon te semble, demeure ici jusqu'à ce que tu l'aies sevré; que le Seigneur accomplisse toutes les paroles qui sont sorties de ta bouche. Et la femme ne bougea pas, et elle allaita son fils jusqu'à ce qu'elle le sevrât.
24 And when she had weined him, she tooke him with her with three bullockes and an Ephah of floure and a bottell of wine, and brought him vnto the house of the Lord in Shiloh, and the childe was yong.
Alors, elle partit avec Elcana pour Silo; ils avaient un bœuf de trois ans, des pains, un éphi de fleur de farine et un nébel de vin; elle entra à Silo dans la maison du Seigneur, et son enfant était avec eux.
25 And they slewe a bullocke, and brought the childe to Eli.
Et ils le conduisirent devant le Seigneur; son père égorgea la victime que de saison en saison il sacrifiait au Seigneur; il présenta l'enfant après avoir égorgé le bœuf; et Anne, la mère de l'enfant, le conduisit à Héli,
26 And she said, Oh my Lord, as thy soule liueth, my lord, I am the woman that stoode with thee here praying vnto the Lord.
Et elle dit: Je te prie, seigneur, aussi vrai que tu vis, je suis la femme que tu as vue assise devant toi, priant le Seigneur.
27 I prayed for this childe, and the Lord hath giuen me my desire which I asked of him.
J'ai prié pour obtenir cet enfant, et le Seigneur a exaucé la prière que je lui avais faite.
28 Therefore also I haue giuen him vnto the Lord: as long as he liueth hee shalbe giuen vnto the Lord: and he worshipped the Lord there.
Cet enfant, je le donne au Seigneur pour être tous les jours de sa vie au service du Seigneur; puis, elle dit:
