1 Samuel 7
1 Then the men of Kiriath-iearim came, and tooke vp the Arke of the Lord, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill: and they sanctified Eleazar his sonne, to keepe the Arke of the Lord.
Et les hommes de Cariath-Iarim vinrent; ils emmenèrent l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur, et ils l'introduisirent dans la maison qu'Aminadab possédait sur la colline. Puis ils sanctifièrent son fils Eléazar, afin qu'il gardât l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur.
2 (For while the Arke abode in Kiriath-iearim, the time was long, for it was twentie yeeres) and al the house of Israel lamented after ye Lord.
A partir du jour où l'arche entra à Cariath-Iarim, bien des jours s'écoulèrent, elle y était déjà depuis vingt ans, quand tout Israël se tourna vers le Seigneur.
3 Then Samuel spake vnto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye be come againe vnto the Lord with all your heart, put away the strange gods from among you, and Ashtaroth, and direct your hearts vnto the Lord, and serue him only, and he shall deliuer you out of the hand of ye Philistims.
Alors, Samuel parla à toute la maison d'Israël, disant: Si c'est de tout votre cœur que vous revenez à Dieu, chassez du milieu de vous les dieux étrangers, détruisez leurs bois sacrés, préparez vos âmes pour le Seigneur Dieu, ne servez que lui seul; et il vous affranchira du joug des Philistins.
4 Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and serued the Lord onely.
Les fils d'Israël chassèrent donc Baal; ils détruisirent les bois sacrés d'Astaroth, et ils ne servirent que le Seigneur.
5 And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you vnto the Lord.
Et Samuel dit: Réunissez tout Israël en Masphath; et je prierai pour vous le Seigneur.
6 And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drewe water and powred it out before the Lord, and fasted the same day, and sayd there, We haue sinned against the Lord. And Samuel iudged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.
Et ils se rassemblèrent en Masphath; ils puisèrent de l'eau, et la répandirent sur la terre devant le Seigneur; ce jour-là ils jeûnèrent, et ils dirent: Nous avons péché devant le Seigneur. Puis, Samuel jugea les fils d'Israël en Masphath.
7 When the Philistims heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the princes of the Philistims went vp against Israel: and when the children of Israel heard that, they were afraide of the Philistims.
Et les Philistins apprirent que tous les fils d'Israël étaient assemblés en Masphath, les chefs des Philistins se mirent aussitôt en marche contre Israël; les fils d'Israël le surent, et ils eurent crainte des étrangers.
8 And the children of Israel sayd to Samuel, Cease not to crie vnto the Lord our God for vs, that hee may saue vs out of the hand of the Philistims.
Et les fils d'Israël dirent à Samuel: Ne cesse pas de crier pour nous au Seigneur ton Dieu; il nous sauvera des mains de nos ennemis.
9 Then Samuel tooke a sucking lambe, and offered it all together for a burnt offering vnto the Lord, and Samuel cryed vnto the Lord for Israel, and the Lord heard him.
Samuel prit un agneau de lait, et avec tout le peuple, il l'offrit en holocauste au Seigneur; Samuel cria au Seigneur en faveur du peuple, et le Seigneur l'exauça.
10 And as Samuel offered the burnt offering, the Philistims came to fight against Israel: but the Lord thundred with a great thunder that day vpon the Philistims, and scattered them: so they were slaine before Israel.
Samuel était à offrir l'holocauste pendant que les Philistins s'avançaient pour combattre Israël; et ce jour-là le Seigneur fit entendre contre les Philistins la grande voix du tonnerre; ils furent confondus, et ils s'enfuirent devant Israël.
11 And the men of Israel went from Mizpeh and pursued the Philistims, and smote them vntill they came vnder Beth-car.
Et les hommes d'Israël sortirent de Masphath, poursuivirent les Philistins, et les taillèrent en pièces jusqu'au-dessous de Bethchor.
12 Then Samuel tooke a stone and pitched it betweene Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name thereof, Eben-ezer, and he sayd, Hitherto hath the Lord holpen vs.
Après cela, Samuel prit une pierre qu'il dressa entre Masphath et la vieille ville; et il l'appela Abenézer, Pierre du Secours, et il dit: ici le Seigneur nous a secourus.
13 So the Philistims were brought vnder, and they came no more againe into the coastes of Israel: and the hand of the Lord was against the Philistims all the dayes of Samuel.
Ainsi, le Seigneur humilia les Philistins; ils cessèrent d'envahir le territoire d'Israël, et la main du Seigneur se tourna contre les Philistins durant tous les jours de Samuel.
14 Also the cities which the Philistims had taken from Israel, were restored to Israel, from Ekron euen to Gath: and Israel deliuered the coastes of the same out of the hands of the Philistims: and there was peace betweene Israel and the Amorites.
Et les Philistins rendirent toutes les villes qu'ils avaient prises aux fils d'Israël; ils les rendirent à Israël depuis Ascalon jusqu'à Azot. Israël recouvra ses limites qu'il reprit aux Philistins; cependant la paix régnait entre Israël et l'Amorrhéen.
15 And Samuel iudged Israel all the dayes of his life,
Ensuite, Samuel jugea le peuple, durant tons les jours de sa vie.
16 And went about yeere by yere to Beth-el, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and iudged Israel in all those places.
Tous les ans il voyageait; il passait dans sa tournée par Béthel, Galgala et Masphath; et en tous ces lieux saints, il jugeait Israël.
17 Afterward hee returned to Ramah: for there was his house, and there he iudged Israel: also he built an altar there vnto the Lord.
Enfin, il rentrait en Armathem, où était sa demeure; il y jugeait Israël, et il y bâtit un autel au Seigneur.
