1 Samuel 7
1 Then the men of Kiriath-iearim came, and tooke vp the Arke of the Lord, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill: and they sanctified Eleazar his sonne, to keepe the Arke of the Lord.
Les gens de Cariathiarim vinrent et firent monter l'arche de Yahweh; ils la conduisirent dans la maison d'Abinadab, sur la colline, et ils consacrèrent son fils Eléazar pour garder l'arche de Yahweh.
2 (For while the Arke abode in Kiriath-iearim, the time was long, for it was twentie yeeres) and al the house of Israel lamented after ye Lord.
Depuis le jour où l'arche fut déposée à Cariathiarim, il se passa un long temps, vingt années, et toute la maison d'Israël poussa des gémissements vers Yahweh.
3 Then Samuel spake vnto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye be come againe vnto the Lord with all your heart, put away the strange gods from among you, and Ashtaroth, and direct your hearts vnto the Lord, and serue him only, and he shall deliuer you out of the hand of ye Philistims.
Et Samuel dit à toute la maison d'Israël: « Si c'est de tout votre cœur que vous revenez à Yahweh, ôtez du milieu de vous les dieux étrangers et les Astartés, attachez fermement votre cœur à Yahweh et servez-le lui seul, et il vous délivrera de la main des Philistins. »
4 Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and serued the Lord onely.
Alors les enfants d'Israël ôtèrent du milieu d'eux les Baals et les Astartés, et ils servirent Yahweh seul.
5 And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you vnto the Lord.
Samuel dit: « Assemblez tout Israël à Maspha, et je prierai Yahweh pour vous. »
6 And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drewe water and powred it out before the Lord, and fasted the same day, and sayd there, We haue sinned against the Lord. And Samuel iudged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.
Et ils s'assemblèrent à Maspha. Ils puisèrent de l'eau et la répandirent devant Yahweh, et ils jeûnèrent ce jour-là, en disant: « Nous avons péché contre Yahweh. » Et Samuel jugea les enfants d'Israël à Maspha.
7 When the Philistims heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the princes of the Philistims went vp against Israel: and when the children of Israel heard that, they were afraide of the Philistims.
Les Philistins apprirent que les enfants d'Israël s'étaient assemblés à Maspha, et les princes des Philistins montèrent contre Israël. Les enfants d'Israël l'apprirent et eurent peur des Philistins;
8 And the children of Israel sayd to Samuel, Cease not to crie vnto the Lord our God for vs, that hee may saue vs out of the hand of the Philistims.
et les enfants d'Israël dirent à Samuel: « Ne cesse point de crier pour nous vers Yahweh, notre Dieu, afin qu'il nous sauve de la main des Philistins. »
9 Then Samuel tooke a sucking lambe, and offered it all together for a burnt offering vnto the Lord, and Samuel cryed vnto the Lord for Israel, and the Lord heard him.
Samuel prit un agneau de lait, et l'offrit tout entier en holocauste à Yahweh; et Samuel cria vers Yahweh pour Israël, et Yahweh l'exauça.
10 And as Samuel offered the burnt offering, the Philistims came to fight against Israel: but the Lord thundred with a great thunder that day vpon the Philistims, and scattered them: so they were slaine before Israel.
Pendant que Samuel offrait l'holocauste, les Philistins s'approchèrent pour attaquer Israël. Mais Yahweh fit retentir en ce jour le tonnerre, avec un grand bruit, sur les Philistins, et les mit en déroute, et ils furent battus devant Israël.
11 And the men of Israel went from Mizpeh and pursued the Philistims, and smote them vntill they came vnder Beth-car.
Les hommes d'Israël, sortant de Maspha, poursuivirent les Philistins et les battirent jusqu'au-dessous de Beth-Char.
12 Then Samuel tooke a stone and pitched it betweene Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name thereof, Eben-ezer, and he sayd, Hitherto hath the Lord holpen vs.
Samuel prit une pierre, qu'il plaça entre Maspha et Sen, et il lui donna le nom d'Eben-Ezer, en disant: « Jusqu'ici Yahweh nous a secourus. »
13 So the Philistims were brought vnder, and they came no more againe into the coastes of Israel: and the hand of the Lord was against the Philistims all the dayes of Samuel.
Ainsi humiliés, les Philistins ne revinrent plus sur le territoire d'Israël; la main de Yahweh fut sur les Philistins pendant toute la vie de Samuel.
14 Also the cities which the Philistims had taken from Israel, were restored to Israel, from Ekron euen to Gath: and Israel deliuered the coastes of the same out of the hands of the Philistims: and there was peace betweene Israel and the Amorites.
Les villes que les Philistins avaient prises sur Israël retournèrent à Israël, depuis Accaron jusqu'à Geth; Israël arracha leur territoire des mains des Philistins. Et il y eut paix entre Israël et les Amorrhéens.
15 And Samuel iudged Israel all the dayes of his life,
Samuel jugea Israël tout le temps de sa vie.
16 And went about yeere by yere to Beth-el, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and iudged Israel in all those places.
Chaque année il s'en allait, faisant le tour par Béthel, Galgala et Maspha, et il jugeait Israël dans tous ces lieux.
17 Afterward hee returned to Ramah: for there was his house, and there he iudged Israel: also he built an altar there vnto the Lord.
Il revenait ensuite à Rama, où était sa maison, et là il jugeait Israël; il y bâtit un autel à Yahweh.
