1 Samuel 31
1 Now the Philistims fought against Israel, and the me of Israel fled away from ye Philistims, and they fell downe wounded in mount Gilboa.
Les Philistins livrèrent bataille à Israël, et les hommes d’Israël prirent la fuite devant les Philistins et tombèrent morts sur la montagne de Guilboa.
2 And the Philistims preassed sore vpon Saul and his sonnes, and slewe Ionathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua Sauls sonnes.
Les Philistins poursuivirent Saül et ses fils, et tuèrent Jonathan, Abinadab et Malkischua, fils de Saül.
3 And when the battel went sore against Saul, the archers and bowmen hit him, and hee was sore wounded of the archers.
L’effort du combat porta sur Saül; les archers l’atteignirent, et le blessèrent grièvement.
4 Then saide Saul vnto his armour bearer, Drawe out thy sworde, and thrust mee through therewith, lest the vncircumcised come and thrust me through and mocke me: but his armour bearer would not, for hee was sore afraid. Therefore Saul tooke a sworde and fell vpon it.
Saül dit alors à celui qui portait ses armes: Tire ton épée, et m’en transperce, de peur que ces incirconcis ne viennent me percer et me faire subir leurs outrages. Celui qui portait ses armes ne voulut pas, car il était saisi de crainte. Et Saül prit son épée, et se jeta dessus.
5 And when his armour bearer sawe that Saul was dead, he fell likewise vpon his sword, and dyed with him.
Celui qui portait les armes de Saül, le voyant mort, se jeta aussi sur son épée, et mourut avec lui.
6 So Saul dyed, and his three sonnes, and his armour bearer, and all his men that same day together.
Ainsi périrent en même temps, dans cette journée, Saül et ses trois fils, celui qui portait ses armes, et tous ses gens.
7 And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they of the other side Iorden saw that the men of Israel were put to flight, and that Saul and his sonnes were dead, then they left the cities, and ran away: and the Philistims came and dwelt in them.
Ceux d’Israël qui étaient de ce côté de la vallée et de ce côté du Jourdain, ayant vu que les hommes d’Israël s’enfuyaient et que Saül et ses fils étaient morts, abandonnèrent leurs villes pour prendre aussi la fuite. Et les Philistins allèrent s’y établir.
8 And on the morowe when the Philistims were come to spoyle them that were slaine, they founde Saul and his three sonnes lying in mount Gilboa,
Le lendemain, les Philistins vinrent pour dépouiller les morts, et ils trouvèrent Saül et ses trois fils tombés sur la montagne de Guilboa.
9 And they cut off his head, and stripped him out of his armour, and sent into the land of ye Philistims on euery side, that they should publish it in the temple of their idoles, and among the people.
Ils coupèrent la tête de Saül, et enlevèrent ses armes. Puis ils firent annoncer ces bonnes nouvelles par tout le pays des Philistins dans les maisons de leurs idoles et parmi le peuple.
10 And they layed vp his armour in the house of Ashtaroth, but they hanged vp his body on the wall of Beth-shan.
Ils mirent les armes de Saül dans la maison des Astartés, et ils attachèrent son cadavre sur les murs de Beth-Schan.
11 When the inhabitants of Iabesh Gilead heard, what the Philistims had done to Saul,
Lorsque les habitants de Jabès en Galaad apprirent comment les Philistins avaient traité Saül,
12 Then they arose (as many as were strong men) and went all night, and tooke the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sonnes, from the wall of Beth-shan, and came to Iabesh, and burnt them there,
tous les vaillants hommes se levèrent, et, après avoir marché toute la nuit, ils arrachèrent des murs de Beth-Schan le cadavre de Saül et ceux de ses fils. Puis ils revinrent à Jabès, où ils les brûlèrent;
13 And tooke their bones and buried them vnder a tree at Iabesh, and fasted seuen dayes.
ils prirent leurs os, et les enterrèrent sous le tamaris à Jabès. Et ils jeûnèrent sept jours.
