1 Samuel 28
1 Nowe at that time the Philistims assembled their bandes and armie to fight with Israel: therfore Achish said to Dauid, Be sure, thou shalt go out with me to the battel, thou, and thy men.
En ce temps-là, les Philistins rassemblèrent leurs troupes en armée pour combattre Israël. Akhich dit à David "Sache que tu partiras en guerre avec moi, toi et tes hommes."
2 And Dauid said to Achish, Surely thou shalt knowe, what thy seruant can doe. And Achish sayde to Dauid, Surely I will make thee keeper of mine head for euer.
David répondit à Akhich: "Certes, tu sais bien ce que fera ton serviteur. Aussi, dit Akhich à David, je te donne la garde de ma personne à jamais."
3 (Samuel was then dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah his owne citie: and Saul had put away the sorcerers, and the soothsayers out of the land)
Samuel étant mort, tout Israël avait mené son deuil et l’avait enterré à Rama, sa ville. D’Autre part, Saül avait fait disparaître du pays les nécromanciens et les devins.
4 Then the Philistims assembled themselues, and came, and pitched in Shunem: and Saul assembled all Israel, and they pitched in Gilboa.
Les Philistins, s’étant donc rassemblés, vinrent camper à Sunem. Saül rassembla tout Israël, et ils campèrent à Ghelboé.
5 And when Saul saw the hoste of the Philistims, he was afraid, and his heart was sore astonied.
En voyant l’armée des Philistins, Saül fut effrayé et trembla fort en son cœur.
6 Therefore Saul asked counsel of the Lord, and the Lord answered him not, neither by dreames, nor by Vrim, nor yet by Prophets.
Il consulta le Seigneur, mais le Seigneur ne lui répondit pas, ni par des songes, ni par les Ourim, ni par les prophètes.
7 Then saide Saul vnto his seruants, Seeke me a woman that hath a familiar spirite, that I may goe to her, and aske of her. And his seruants said to him, Beholde, there is a woman at En-dor that hath a familiar spirit.
Alors Saül dit à ses serviteurs: "Cherchez-moi une nécromancienne, que j’aille la trouver et la consulter." Ses serviteurs lui répondirent: "Il y a une nécromancienne à Endor."
8 Then Saul changed him selfe, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he saide, I pray thee, coniecture vnto me by the familiar spirite, and bring me him vp whome I shall name vnto thee.
Saül se déguisa en changeant de vêtements, s’en alla accompagné de deux hommes, et ils arrivèrent de nuit chez cette femme. Il lui dit: "Fais pour moi l’opération magique et évoque-moi celui que je te désignerai."
9 And the woman saide vnto him, Beholde, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath destroyed the sorcerers, and the southsayers out of the land: wherefore then seekest thou to take me in a snare to cause me to die?
La femme lui répondit: "Tu sais bien ce qu’a fait Saül, qu’il a extirpé nécromanciens et devins de ce pays: pourquoi donc me tends-tu un piège en vue de causer ma mort?"
10 And Saul sware to her by the Lord, saying, As the Lord liueth, no harme shall come to thee for this thing.
Et Saül lui jura par l’Eternel, disant: "Par le Dieu vivant! Il ne t’arrivera aucun malheur pour cette affaire."
11 Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring vp vnto thee? And he answered, Bring me vp Samuel.
La femme demanda: "Qui dois-je évoquer pour toi? Il répondit: "Evoque-moi Samuel."
12 And when the woman sawe Samuel, she cryed with a loude voyce, and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceiued me? for thou art Saul.
La femme, en voyant Samuel, jeta un grand cri et dit à Saül: "Mais tu es Saül! Pourquoi m’as-tu trompée?"
13 And the King said vnto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said vnto Saul, I saw gods ascending vp out of the earth.
Le roi lui répondit: "Sois sans crainte. Qu’as-tu vu? J’Ai vu, répondit-elle à Saül, un être divin montant de dessous terre."
14 Then he said vnto her, What facion is hee of? And she answered, An olde man commeth vp lapped in a mantel: and Saul knewe that it was Samuel, and he enclined his face to the grounde, and bowed him selfe.
Il lui demanda: "Quelle figure a-t-il?" Elle répondit: "C’Est un vieillard qui monte, enveloppé d’un manteau." Saül comprit que c’était Samuel, et il s’inclina jusqu’à terre et se prosterna.
15 And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me vp? Then Saul answered, I am in great distresse: for the Philistims make warre against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by Prophetes, neither by dreames: therefore I haue called thee, that thou mayest tell me, what I shall doe.
Samuel dit à Saül: "Pourquoi troubles-tu mon repos en me faisant évoquer? Mon angoisse est grande, répondit Saül; les Philistins m’attaquent, et Dieu m’abandonne et ne me répond plus, ni par l’entremise des prophètes ni par des songes. Je t’ai donc appelé pour que tu m’apprennes ce que je dois faire."
16 Then said Samuel, Wherefore then doest thou aske of me, seeing the Lord is gone from thee, and is thine enemie?
Samuel reprit: "Pourquoi m’interroges-tu, alors que l’Eternel t’a abandonné pour ton rival?
17 Euen the Lord hath done to him, as hee spake by mine hande: for the Lord will rent the kingdome out of thine hande, and giue it thy neighbour Dauid.
Oui, l’Eternel a agi pour lui comme il l’avait déclaré par mon organe: il t’a arraché la royauté et l’a donnée à ton rival, à David.
18 Because thou obeyedst not the voyce of the Lord, nor executedst his fierce wrath vpon the Amalekites, therefore hath the Lord done this vnto thee this day.
Comme tu n’as pas écouté la voix du Seigneur et n’as pas servi son courroux contre Amalec, le Seigneur t’a traité de la sorte en ce jour.
19 Moreouer the Lord wil deliuer Israel with thee into the handes of the Philistims: and to morowe shalt thou and thy sonnes be with me, and the Lord shall giue the hoste of Israel into the handes of the Philistims.
Et il livrera également Israël, avec toi, au pouvoir des Philistins: demain, toi et tes fils vous serez où je suis, et l’armée d’Israël sera livrée par le Seigneur aux Philistins."
20 Then Saul fell streight way all along on the earth, and was sore afraide because of the wordes of Samuel, so that there was no strength in him: for he had eaten no bread all the day nor all the night.
Aussitôt Saül tomba tout de son long par terre, fort épouvanté du discours de Samuel, et d’ailleurs épuisé de forces, car il n’avait rien mangé tout ce jour, ni toute cette nuit.
21 Then the woman came vnto Saul, and sawe that he was sore troubled, and said vnto him, See, thine handmaide hath obeyed thy voyce, and I haue put my soule in mine hande, and haue obeyed thy wordes which thou saydest vnto me.
La femme s’approcha de Saül et, le voyant tout terrifié, lui dit: "Or çà, ta servante a écouté ta voix; j’ai exposé ma vie pour obéir aux paroles que tu m’as dites.
22 Now therefore, I pray thee, hearke thou also vnto ye voyce of thine handmaid, and let me set a morsell of bread before thee, that thou mayest eat and get thee strength, and go on thy iourney.
Donc, à ton tour, de grâce, écoute la voix de ta servante: je veux te servir une tranche de pain, mange pour être réconforté quand tu te mettras en route."
23 But he refused, and said, I will not eate: but his seruants and the woman together compelled him, and he obeyed their voyce: so he arose from the earth, and sate on the bed.
Il refusa, disant: "Je ne mangerai pas." Mais ses serviteurs le pressèrent, la femme pareillement, et il céda à leur voix. Il se releva de terre et s’assit sur le lit.
24 Nowe the woman had a fat calfe in the house, and she hasted, and killed it, and tooke floure and kneaded it, and baked of it vnleauened bread.
La femme avait chez elle un veau gras; elle se hâta de le tuer, puis elle prit de la farine qu’elle pétrit et qu’elle fit cuire en pains azymes.
25 Then she brought them before Saul, and before his seruants: and when they had eaten, they stoode, and went away the same night.
Elle servit ce repas à Saül et à ses gens. Après avoir mangé, ils se levèrent et repartirent cette même nuit.
