1 Samuel 24
1 When Saul was turned from ye Philistims, they told him, saying, Behold, Dauid is in the wildernes of En-gedi.
Et il arriva que, quand Saül fut revenu de la poursuite des Philistins, on lui rapporta, en disant: Voici, David est au désert d’En-Guédi.
2 Then Saul tooke three thousande chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seeke Dauid and his men vpon the rocks among the wilde goates.
Et Saül prit 3 000 hommes d’élite de tout Israël, et il s’en alla pour chercher David et ses hommes sur les rochers des bouquetins.
3 And hee came to the sheepecoates by the way where there was a caue, and Saul went in to do his easement: and Dauid and his men sate in the inward parts of the caue.
Et il vint aux parcs du menu bétail, sur le chemin; et là il y avait une caverne, et Saül y entra pour se couvrir les pieds; et David et ses hommes étaient assis au fond de la caverne.
4 And the men of Dauid said vnto him, See, the day is come, whereof the Lord sayde vnto thee, Beholde, I will deliuer thine enemie into thine hande, and thou shalt doe to him as it shall seeme good to thee. Then Dauid arose and cut off the lap of Sauls garment priuily.
Et les hommes de David lui dirent: Voici le jour dont l’Éternel t’a dit: Voici, je livre ton ennemi en ta main, et tu lui feras comme il sera bon à tes yeux. Et David se leva et coupa secrètement le pan de la robe de Saül.
5 And afterward Dauid was touched in his heart, because he had cut off the lappe which was on Sauls garment.
Et il arriva, après cela, que le cœur de David le reprit de ce qu’il avait coupé le pan [de la robe] de Saül.
6 And he said vnto his men, The Lord keepe mee from doing that thing vnto my master the Lords Anoynted, to lay mine hand vpon him: for he is the Anoynted of the Lord.
Et il dit à ses hommes: Loin de moi, de par l’Éternel, que je fasse une telle chose à mon seigneur, à l’oint de l’Éternel, que d’étendre ma main sur lui; car il est l’oint de l’Éternel.
7 So Dauid ouercame his seruants with these words, and suffered them not to arise against Saul: so Saul rose vp out of the caue and went away.
Et David retint ses hommes par ses paroles, et ne leur permit pas de s’élever contre Saül. Et Saül se leva de la caverne, et alla son chemin.
8 Dauid also arose afterward, and went out of the caue, and cryed after Saul, saying, O my lorde the King. And when Saul looked behinde him, Dauid inclined his face to the earth, and bowed himselfe.
Et après cela, David se leva, et sortit de la caverne, et cria après Saül, disant: Ô roi, mon seigneur! Et Saül regarda derrière lui, et David s’inclina le visage contre terre et se prosterna.
9 And Dauid saide to Saul, Wherefore giuest thou an eare to mens words, that say, Behold, Dauid seeketh euill against thee?
Et David dit à Saül: Pourquoi écouterais-tu les paroles des hommes qui disent: Voici, David cherche à te faire du mal?
10 Behold, this day thine eyes haue seene, that the Lord had deliuered thee this day into mine hand in the caue, and some bade me kill thee, but I had compassion on thee, and said, I will not lay mine hande on my master: for he is the Lordes Anoynted.
Voici, tes yeux ont vu en ce jour que l’Éternel t’a livré aujourd’hui en ma main, dans la caverne. Et on m’a dit de te tuer; et [mon œil] t’a épargné, et j’ai dit: Je n’étendrai point ma main sur mon seigneur, car il est l’oint de l’Éternel.
11 Moreouer my father, behold: behold, I say, the lappe of thy garment in mine hand: for when I cut off the lappe of thy garment, I killed thee not. Vnderstad and see, that there is neither euil nor wickednesse in mee, neither haue I sinned against thee, yet thou huntest after my soule to take it.
Et regarde, mon père, regarde le pan de ta robe dans ma main; car en ce que j’ai coupé le pan de ta robe et ne t’ai point tué, sache et vois qu’il n’y a pas de mal en ma main, ni de transgression, et que je n’ai pas péché contre toi; et toi, tu fais la chasse à mon âme pour la prendre.
12 The Lord be iudge betweene thee and me, and the Lord auenge me of thee, and let not mine hand be vpon thee.
L’Éternel jugera entre moi et toi, et l’Éternel me vengera de toi; mais ma main ne sera pas sur toi.
13 According as the olde prouerbe sayeth, Wickednesse proceedeth from the wicked, but mine hand be not vpon thee.
Comme dit le proverbe des anciens: Des méchants vient la méchanceté; mais ma main ne sera pas sur toi.
14 After whom is the King of Israel come out? after whome doest thou pursue? after a dead dog, and after a flea?
Après qui est sorti le roi d’Israël? Qui poursuis-tu? Un chien mort, une puce!
15 The Lord therfore be iudge, and iudge betweene thee and me, and see, and pleade my cause, and deliuer me out of thine hand.
Et l’Éternel sera juge, et il jugera entre moi et toi; et il verra et plaidera ma cause, et me fera droit [en me délivrant] de ta main.
16 Whe Dauid had made an end of speaking these words to Saul, Saul sayd, Is this thy voyce, my sonne Dauid? and Saul lift vp his voice, and wept,
Et lorsque David eut achevé de dire ces paroles à Saül, Saül dit: Est-ce là ta voix, mon fils David? Et Saül éleva sa voix et pleura.
17 And sayd to Dauid, Thou art more righteous then I: for thou hast rendred me good, and I haue rendred thee euill.
Et il dit à David: Tu es plus juste que moi, car toi tu m’as rendu le bien, et moi je t’ai rendu le mal;
18 And thou hast shewed this day, that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the Lord had closed me in thine hands, thou killedst me not.
et tu as fait connaître aujourd’hui que tu agissais en bien envers moi, en ce que l’Éternel m’avait livré en ta main, et que tu ne m’as pas tué.
19 For who shall finde his enemie, and let him depart free? wherefore the Lord render thee good for that thou hast done vnto me this day.
Et si un homme a trouvé son ennemi, le laissera-t-il aller sain et sauf? Que l’Éternel te fasse du bien, en récompense de ce que tu as fait aujourd’hui à mon égard!
20 For now behold, I know that thou shalt be King, and that the kingdome of Israel shall be stablished in thine hand.
Et maintenant, voici, je sais que certainement tu régneras, et que le royaume d’Israël sera établi en ta main.
21 Sweare now therfore vnto me by the Lord, that thou wilt not destroy my seede after me, and that thou wilt not abolish my name out of my fathers house.
Et maintenant, jure-moi par l’Éternel que tu ne retrancheras point ma semence après moi, et que tu n’ôteras point mon nom de la maison de mon père.
22 So Dauid sware vnto Saul, and Saul went home: but Dauid and his men went vp vnto ye hold.
Et David le jura à Saül; et Saül s’en alla dans sa maison; et David et ses hommes montèrent au lieu fort.
