1 Samuel 21
1 Then came Dauid to Nob, to Ahimelech the Priest, and Ahimelech was astonied at the meeting of Dauid, and saide vnto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?
David se rendit à Nomba chez le prêtre Abimélech; Abimélech, étonné de sa venue, lui dit: Pourquoi es-tu seul, et n'y a-t-il personne avec toi?
2 And Dauid saide to Ahimelech the Priest, The King hath commanded mee a certaine thing, and hath sayd vnto me, Let no man know whereabout I sende thee, and what I haue commanded thee: and I haue appointed my seruants to such and such places.
David dit au prêtre: Le roi aujourd'hui m'a donné ce commandement: Que nul ne sache l'affaire pour laquelle je t'envoie, et dont je te charge. J'ai donc convoqué mes serviteurs au lieu dit la Foi de Dieu (Phellani-Maimoni).
3 Nowe therefore if thou hast ought vnder thine hande, giue me fiue cakes of bread, or what commeth to hand.
Maintenant, as-tu sous la main cinq pains? Donne-moi ce que tu pourras trouver.
4 And the Priest answered Dauid, and saide, There is no common bread vnder mine hande, but here is halowed bread, if the yong men haue kept themselues, at least from women.
Le prêtre répondit à David, et il lui dit: Je n'ai point sous la main de pains profanes, je n'ai que des pains consacrés; si tes gens se sont au moins abstenus de femmes, ils en peuvent manger.
5 Dauid then answered the Priest, and sayde vnto him, Certainely women haue bene separarate from vs these two or three dayes since I came out: and the vessels of the yong men were holy, though the way were prophane, and how much more then shall euery one be sanctified this day in the vessell?
David reprit: Quant aux femmes, depuis trois jours, nous nous en sommes abstenus; lorsque je suis parti, tous mes hommes ont été purifiés; mais la route elle-même les souille; c'est pourquoi nous nous purifions aujourd'hui en lavant nos vêtements.
6 So the Priest gaue him halowed bread: for there was no bread there, saue the shewe bread that was taken from before the Lord, to put hote bread there, the day that it was taken away.
Alors, Abimélech le prêtre lui donna les pains de proposition; car il n'y avait là d'autres pains que ceux qu'on venait d'ôter de devant la face du Seigneur, pour les remplacer par des pains chauds, le jour même où David les prit.
7 (And there was the same day one of the seruants of Saul abiding before the Lord, named Doeg the Edomite, the chiefest of Sauls heardmen)
Or, il se trouvait là un serviteur de Saül, retenu devant le Seigneur; il se nommait Doeg le Syrien, et il faisait paître les mulets de Saül.
8 And Dauid said vnto Ahimelech, Is there not here vnder thine hand a speare or a sworde? for I haue neither brought my sworde nor mine harnesse with me, because the Kings businesse required haste.
Et David dit à Abimélech: Vois si tu as ici sous la main quelque javeline ou quelque épée; car je n'ai pris ni mon glaive ni aucune arme, tant l'affaire du roi exigeait de précipitation.
9 And the Priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistim, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is wrapt in a cloth behinde the Ephod: if thou wilt take that to thee, take it: for there is none other saue that here: And Dauid sayd, There is none to that, giue it me.
Et le prêtre dit: Voici l'épée de Goliath le Philistin, que tu as vaincu dans le vallon d'Ela; elle est enveloppée dans un manteau; si tu la veux, tu peux l'emporter; hormis cette arme, il n'en est aucune ici. A quoi David répondit: Donne-la-moi; elle n'a pas sa pareille.
10 And Dauid arose and fled the same day from the presence of Saul, and went to Achish the King of Gath.
Le prêtre la lui donna, et David partit. Ce jour-là, il s'enfuit loin de Saül, et il alla chez Achis, roi de Geth.
11 And the seruants of Achish said vnto him, Is not this Dauid the King of the land? did they not sing vnto him in daunces, saying, Saul hath slayne his thousand, and Dauid his ten thousande?
Et les serviteurs d'Achis dirent à leur maître: N'est-ce point là David, le roi de la terre? N'est-ce pas celui dont les danseuses, en chantant, disaient: Saül les a tués par milliers, David les a tués par myriades?
12 And Dauid considered these wordes, and was sore afraide of Achish the King of Gath.
Et David pesa ces paroles en son cœur, et il eut grande crainte en présence du roi Achis.
13 And hee changed his behauiour before them, and fayned him selfe mad in their handes, and scrabled on the doores of the gate, and let his spettel fall downe vpon his beard.
Aussitôt, devant lui, il se donna un nouvel aspect, et, ce jour-là, il usa de feinte; il tambourina sur les portes de la ville; il fit de ses mains des gestes insensés; il tomba contre les battants des portes, et l'écume ruisselait sur sa barbe.
14 Then said Achish vnto his seruants, Lo, ye see the man is beside him selfe, wherefore haue ye brought him to me?
Et Achis dit à ses serviteurs: Voyez, cet homme est épileptique. Pourquoi me l'avez-vous amené?
15 Haue I neede of mad men, that ye haue brought this fellowe to play the mad man in my presence? shall he come into mine house?
Ai-je besoin d'épileptiques? A quoi bon l'avoir amené pour qu'il tombe en épilepsie devant moi? Il n'entrera pas dans ma maison.
