1 Samuel 2
1 And Hannah prayed, and said, Mine heart reioyceth in the Lord, mine horne is exalted in the Lord: my mouth is enlarged ouer mine enemies, because I reioyce in thy saluation.
Mon âme a tressailli d’allégresse dans le Seigneur, et ma force a été exaltée en mon Dieu; ma bouche s’est dilatée sur mes ennemis, parce que je me suis réjouie dans votre assistance.
2 There is none holy as the Lord: yea, there is none besides thee, and there is no god like our God.
Il n’est pas de saint comme est le Seigneur; car il n’en est pas d’autre en dehors de vous, et il n’est pas de fort comme notre Dieu.
3 Speake no more presumptuously: let not arrogancie come out of your mouth: for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him enterprises are established.
Ne multipliez point des paroles hautaines en vous glorifiant; que les anciens discours s’éloignent de votre bouche, parce que le Seigneur est le Dieu des sciences, et que c’est pour lui que sont préparées les pensées.
4 The bow and the mightie men are broken, and the weake haue girded themselues with strength.
L’arc des forts a été vaincu, et les faibles ont été ceints de force.
5 They that were full, are hired foorth for bread, and the hungrie are no more hired, so that the barren hath borne seuen: and shee that had many children, is feeble.
Ceux qui auparavant regorgeaient se sont loués pour du pain; et les affamés ont été rassasiés, jusque là qu’une femme stérile a enfanté un grand nombre d’enfants, et que celle qui en avait beaucoup est tombée dans la langueur.
C’est le Seigneur qui fait mourir et qui fait vivre, qui conduit aux enfers et qui en ramène. (Sheol h7585)
7 The Lord maketh poore and maketh rich: bringeth lowe, and exalteth.
C’est le Seigneur qui fait le pauvre et qui enrichit, qui abaisse et qui relève.
8 He raiseth vp ye poore out of the dust, and lifteth vp the begger from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherite the seate of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the Lordes, and he hath set the world vpon them.
Il fait sortir de la poussière l’indigent, et du fumier il élève le pauvre, afin qu’il s’asseye avec les princes, et qu’il occupe un trône de gloire; car au Seigneur appartiennent les pôles de la terre, et il a posé sur eux l’univers.
9 Hee will keepe the feete of his Saintes, and the wicked shall keepe silence in darkenes: for in his owne might shall no man be strong.
Il gardera les pieds de ses saints, et les impies se tairont dans les ténèbres, parce que ce n’est point par sa propre force que l’homme se fortifiera.
10 The Lordes aduersaries shall be destroyed, and out of heauen shall he thunder vpon them: the Lord shall iudge the endes of the worlde, and shall giue power vnto his King, and exalt the horne of his Anoynted.
C’est le Seigneur que redouteront ses ennemis, et c’est sur eux-mêmes qu’il tonnera dans les cieux. Le Seigneur jugera les confins de la terre, il donnera l’empire à son roi, et il élèvera la puissance de son christ.
11 And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house, and the childe did minister vnto the Lord before Eli the Priest.
Après cela, Elcana s’en alla à Ramatha dans sa maison; mais l’enfant servait en la présence du Seigneur et devant Héli, le prêtre.
12 Now the sonnes of Eli were wicked men, and knewe not the Lord.
Or, les fils d’Héli étaient des fils de Bélial, ne connaissant point le Seigneur,
13 For the Priestes custome towarde the people was this: when any man offered sacrifice, the Priestes boy came, while the flesh was seething, and a fleshhooke with three teeth, in his hand,
Ni le devoir des prêtres envers le peuple; car quiconque avait immolé une victime, le serviteur du prêtre venait, tandis que les chairs cuisaient, et il avait la fourchette à trois dents en sa main,
14 And thrust it into the kettle, or into the caldron, or into the panne, or into the potte: all that the fleshhooke brought vp, the Priest tooke for himselfe: thus they did vnto all the Israelites, that came thither to Shiloh.
Et il la plongeait dans la chaudière, ou dans le chaudron, ou dans la marmite, ou dans le pot; et tout ce qu’enlevait la fourchette, le prêtre l’emportait pour lui. C’est ainsi qu’ils faisaient à tous ceux d’Israël qui venaient à Silo.
15 Yea, before they burnt the fat, the priests boy came and saide to the man that offered, Giue me flesh to rost for the priest: for he wil not haue sodden flesh of thee, but rawe.
Même avant qu’on brûlât la graisse, le serviteur du prêtre venait, et disait à celui qui immolait: Donne-moi de la chair, afin que je la fasse cuire pour le prêtre; car je ne recevrai pas de toi de la chair cuite, mais de la crue.
16 And if any man saide vnto him, Let them burne the fatte according to the custome, then take as much as thine heart desireth: then hee would answere, No, but thou shalt giue it nowe: and if thou wilt not, I will take it by force.
Et celui qui immolait lui disait: Que la graisse d’abord soit brûlée aujourd’hui, selon l’usage, et prenez pour vous tout autant qu’en désire votre âme. Et celui-ci, répondant, lui disait: Point du tout; car tu m’en donneras maintenant, ou bien j’en prendrai de force.
17 Therefore the sinne of the yong men was very great before the Lord: for men abhorred the offering of the Lord.
Ainsi le péché des enfants d’Héli était très grand devant le Seigneur, puisqu’ils détournaient les hommes des sacrifices du Seigneur.
18 Now Samuel being a yong childe ministred before the Lord, girded with a linen Ephod.
Cependant devant la face du Seigneur servait Samuel, enfant revêtu d’un éphod de lin.
19 And his mother made him a litle coat, and brought it to him from yeere to yeere, when she came vp with her husband, to offer the yerely sacrifice.
Et sa mère lui faisait une petite tunique qu’elle lui apportait aux jours prescrits, montant avec son mari, pour immoler l’hostie solennelle.
20 And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The Lord giue thee seede of this woman, for the petition that she asked of the Lord: and they departed vnto their place.
Et Héli bénit Elcana et sa femme et dit à Elcana: Que le Seigneur te rende une postérité par cette femme pour l’intérêt de ce que tu as prêté au Seigneur. Et ils s’en allèrent dans leur demeure.
21 And the Lord visited Hannah, so that she conceiued, and bare three sonnes, and two daughters. And the childe Samuel grewe before the Lord.
Le Seigneur visita donc Anne, et elle conçut et enfanta trois fils et deux filles, et l’enfant Samuel devint grand devant le Seigneur.
22 So Eli was very olde, and heard all that his sonnes did vnto all Israel, and howe they laye with the women that assembled at the doore of the tabernacle of the Congregation.
Or, Héli était fort vieux; et il apprit tout ce que faisaient ses fils à tout Israël, et comment ils dormaient avec les femmes qui veillaient à la porte du tabernacle,
23 And hee saide vnto them, Why doe ye such things? for of all this people I heare euill reportes of you.
Et il leur demanda: Pourquoi faites-vous des choses de cette nature, choses très mauvaises, que j’apprends moi-même de tout le peuple?
24 Do no more, my sonnes, for it is no good report that I heare, which is, that ye make the Lords people to trespasse.
Cessez, mes enfants; car il n’est pas honorable le bruit qui est parvenu jusqu’à moi, que vous faites transgresser le peuple du Seigneur.
25 If one man sinne against another, the Iudge shall iudge it: but if a man sinne against the Lord, who will pleade for him? Notwithstanding they obeyed not the voyce of their father, because the Lord would slay them.
Si un homme pèche contre un homme, Dieu pourra être apaisé pour lui; mais si c’est contre le Seigneur qu’un homme pèche, qui priera pour lui? Et ils n’écoutèrent pas la voix de leur père, parce que le Seigneur voulut les perdre.
26 (Nowe the childe Samuel profited and grewe, and was in fauour both with the Lord and also with men)
Cependant l’enfant Samuel avançait et croissait, et plaisait autant au Seigneur qu’aux hommes.
27 And there came a man of God vnto Eli, and said vnto him, Thus saith the Lord, Did not I plainely appeare vnto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaohs house?
Or, il vint un homme de Dieu vers Héli, et il lui dit: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Ne me suis-je pas ouvertement révélé à la maison de ton père, lorsqu’ils étaient en Égypte, dans la maison de Pharaon?
28 And I chose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my Priest, to offer vpon mine altar, and to burne incense, and to weare an Ephod before me, and I gaue vnto the house of thy father all the offrings made by fire of the children of Israel.
Je l’ai choisi entre toutes les tribus d’Israël pour mon prêtre, afin qu’il montât à mon autel, qu’il brûlât pour moi de l’encens, et qu’il portât un éphod devant moi; et j’ai donné à la maison de ton père de tous les sacrifices des enfants d’Israël.
29 Wherefore haue you kicked against my sacrifice and mine offering, which I commanded in my Tabernacle, and honourest thy children aboue mee, to make your selues fatte of the first fruites of all the offerings of Israel my people?
Pourquoi avez-vous jeté sous vos pieds ma victime et mes présents que j’ai ordonné d’offrir dans le temple, et as-tu plus honoré tes fils que moi, pour que vous mangeassiez les prémices de tous les sacrifices d’Israël mon peuple?
30 Wherefore the Lord God of Israel saith, I saide, that thine house and the house of thy father should walke before mee for euer: but nowe the Lord saith, It shall not be so: for them that honour me, I will honour, and they that despise me, shall be despised.
C’est pour cela que le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël dit: Parlant, j’ai parlé, afin que ta maison et la maison de ton père servit en ma présence pour toujours. Or, le Seigneur dit maintenant: Loin de moi cela! mais quiconque m’aura glorifié, je le glorifierai; ceux au contraire qui me méprisent, seront avilis.
31 Beholde, the dayes come, that I will cut off thine arme, and the arme of thy fathers house, that there shall not be an olde man in thine house.
Voici que des jours viendront, et je couperai ton bras, et le bras de la maison de ton père, en sorte qu’il n’y ait point de vieillard dans ta maison.
32 And thou shalt see thine enemie in the habitation of the Lord in all thinges wherewith God shall blesse Israel, and there shall not be an olde man in thine house for euer.
Et tu verras ton rival dans le temple, au milieu de toutes les prospérités d’Israël; et il n’y aura de vieillard dans ta maison en aucun jour.
33 Neuerthelesse, I will not destroy euery one of thine from mine altar, to make thine eyes to faile, and to make thine heart sorowfull: and all ye multitude of thine house shall die when they be men.
Cependant je n’enlèverai pas entièrement de mon autel tout homme issu de toi; mais je ferai que tes yeux s’éteindront, et que ton âme se desséchera: et une grande partie de ta maison mourra, lorsqu’elle sera parvenue à l’âge viril.
34 And this shalbe a signe vnto thee, that shall come vpon thy two sonnes Hophni and Phinehas: in one day they shall die both.
Or, ce qui en sera pour toi le signe, est ce qui doit arriver à tes deux fils, Ophni et Phinéès: en un seul jour ils mourront tous les deux.
35 And I will stirre me vp a faithfull Priest, that shall do according to mine heart and according to my minde: and I wil build him a sure house, and he shall walke before mine Anointed for euer.
Et je me susciterai un prêtre fidèle qui agira selon mon cœur et mon âme; et je lui édifierai une maison fidèle, et il marchera devant mon christ, tous les jours.
36 And all that are left in thine house, shall come and bowe downe to him for a piece of siluer and a morsell of bread, and shall say, Appoint me, I pray thee, to one of the priestes offices, that I may eate a morsell of bread.
Or, il arriva, que quiconque sera resté dans ta maison, viendra, afin qu’on prie pour lui et qu’il offre une pièce d’argent, et une miche de pain, et qu’il dise: Admettez-moi, je vous conjure, à une fonction sacerdotale, afin que je mange une bouchée de pain.
