1 Samuel 16
1 The Lord then saide vnto Samuel, Howe long wilt thou mourne for Saul, seeing I haue cast him away from reigning ouer Israel? fill thine horne with oyle and come, I will sende thee to Ishai the Bethlehemite: for I haue prouided mee a King among his sonnes.
E IL Signore disse a Samuele: Infino a quando farai tu cordoglio di Saulle? conciossiachè io l'abbia sdegnato, acciocchè non regni più sopra Israele. Empi il tuo corno d'olio, e va'; io ti manderò ad Isai Betlehemita; perciocchè io mi sono provveduto di un re d'infra i suoi figliuoli.
2 And Samuel sayde, Howe can I goe? for if Saul shall heare it, he will kill me. Then the Lord answered, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to doe sacrifice to the Lord.
E Samuele disse: Come [v'] andrò io? se Saulle l'intende, egli mi ucciderà. Ma il Signore gli disse: Prendi teco una giovenca e di': Io son venuto per far sacrificio al Signore.
3 And call Ishai to the sacrifice, and I will shewe thee what thou shalt doe, and thou shalt anoynt vnto me him whom I name vnto thee.
Ed invita Isai al [convito del] sacrificio; ed io ti farò assapere ciò che tu avrai a fare, e tu mi ungerai colui ch'io ti dirò.
4 So Samuel did that the Lord bade him, and came to Beth-lehem, and the Elders of the towne were astonied at his comming, and sayd, Commest thou peaceablie?
Samuele adunque fece quello che il Signore [gli] avea detto, e venne in Bet-lehem. E gli Anziani della città furono spaventati al suo incontro, e dissero: La tua venuta [è ella] per bene?
5 And he answeared, Yea: I am come to doe sacrifice vnto the Lord: sanctifie your selues, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Ishai and his sonnes, and called them to the sacrifice.
Ed egli disse: [Sì, ella è] per bene. Io son venuto per sacrificare al Signore: santificatevi, e venite meco al sacrificio. Fece ancora santificare Isai, e i suoi figliuoli, e li invitò al [convito del] sacrificio.
6 And when they were come, hee looked on Eliab, and saide, Surely the Lordes Anointed is before him.
Ora, come essi entravano, egli vide Eliab, e disse: Certo, l'Unto del Signore [è] davanti a lui.
7 But the Lord said vnto Samuel, Looke not on his countenance, nor on the height of his stature, because I haue refused him: for God seeth not as man seeth: for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord beholdeth the heart.
Ma il Signore disse a Samuele: Non riguardare al suo aspetto, nè all'altezza della sua statura; perciocchè io l'ho lasciato indietro; conciossiachè [il Signore] non [riguardi a ciò] a che l'uomo riguarda; perchè l'uomo riguarda [a ciò che è] davanti agli occhi, ma il Signore riguarda al cuore.
8 Then Ishai called Abinadab, and made him come before Samuel. And he saide, Neither hath the Lord chosen this.
Poi Isai chiamò Abinadab, e lo fece passare davanti a Samuele. Ma egli disse: Nè anche costui ha eletto il Signore.
9 Then Ishai made Shammah come. And he said, Neither yet hath the Lord chosen him.
Poi Isai fece passare Samma; ma [Samuele] disse: Nè anche costui ha eletto il Signore.
10 Againe Ishai made his seue sonnes to come before Samuel: and Samuel saide vnto Ishai, The Lord hath chosen none of these.
Ed Isai fece passare i suoi sette figliuoli davanti a Samuele. Ma Samuele disse ad Isai: Il Signore non ha eletti costoro.
11 Finally, Samuel said vnto Ishai, Are there no more children but these? And hee sayde, There remaineth yet a litle one behinde, that keepeth the sheepe. Then Samuel saide vnto Ishai, Sende and set him: for we will not sit downe, till he be come hither.
E Samuele disse ad Isai: I giovani sono eglino tutti [passati]? Ed Isai disse: Ei vi resta ancora il più piccolo, ma ecco, egli pastura la greggia. E Samuele disse ad Isai: Manda per lui; perciocchè noi non ci metteremo a tavola, ch'egli non sia venuto qua.
12 And he sent, and brought him in: and he was ruddie, and of a good countenance, and comely visage. And the Lord saide, Arise, and anoynt him: for this is he.
Egli adunque mandò, e lo fece venire (or egli [era] biondo, di bello sguardo, e di formoso aspetto). E il Signore disse [a Samuele: ] Levati, ungilo; perciocchè costui [è] desso.
13 Then Samuel tooke the horne of oyle, and anoynted him in the middes of his brethren. And the Spirit of the Lord came vpon Dauid, from that day forwarde: then Samuel rose vp, and went to Ramah.
Samuele adunque prese il corno dell'olio, e l'unse in mezzo de' suoi fratelli; e lo Spirito del Signore da quel dì innanzi si avventò sopra Davide. Poi Samuele si levò, e se ne andò in Rama.
14 But the Spirite of the Lord departed from Saul, and an euill spirite sent of the Lord vexed him.
E LO Spirito del Signore si partì da Saulle; e lo spirito malvagio, [mandato] da Dio, lo turbava.
15 And Sauls seruants said vnto him, Beholde nowe, the euill spirite of God vexeth thee.
Laonde i servitori di Saulle gli dissero: Ecco, ora lo spirito malvagio di Dio ti turba.
16 Let our Lord therefore command thy seruants, that are before thee, to seeke a man that is a cunning plaier vpon the harpe: that when the euil spirit of God commeth vpon thee, hee may play with his hand, and thou maiest be eased.
Deh! dica il nostro signore a' suoi servitori [che stanno] davanti a lui, che cerchino un uomo che sappia sonare con la cetera; e quando lo spirito malvagio di Dio sarà sopra te, egli sonerà con le sue mani, e tu ne sarai sollevato.
17 Saul then saide vnto his seruantes, Prouide me a man, I pray you, that can play well, and bring him to me.
E Saulle disse a' suoi servitori: Deh! provvedetemi di un uomo che suoni bene, e menatemelo.
18 Then answered one of his seruauntes, and sayde, Beholde, I haue seene a sonne of Ishai, a Bethlehemite, that can plaie, and is strong, valiant and a man of warre and wise in matters, and a comely person, and the Lord is with him.
Ed uno de' servitori rispose, e disse: Ecco, io ho veduto un figliuolo di Isai Betlehemita, il quale sa sonare, ed [è] uomo prode e valente, e guerriero, ed avveduto nel parlare, ed [è] un bell'uomo, e il Signore [è] con lui.
19 Wherefore Saul sent messengers vnto Ishai, and said, Send me Dauid thy sonne which is with the sheepe.
Saulle adunque mandò de' messi ad Isai a dirgli: Mandami Davide, tuo figliuolo, che [è] appresso alla greggia.
20 And Ishai tooke an asse laden with breade and a flagon of wine and a kidde, and sent them by the hand of Dauid his sonne vnto Saul.
Ed Isai prese un asino [carico] di pane, e di un barile di vino, e d'un capretto; e lo mandò a Saulle, per Davide suo figliuolo.
21 And Dauid came to Saul, and stoode before him: and he loued him verie well, and he was his armour bearer.
E Davide venne a Saulle, e stette davanti a lui. E [Saulle] l'amò forte, e [Davide] fu suo scudiere.
22 And Saul sent to Ishai, saying, Let Dauid nowe remaine with me: for he hath found fauour in my sight.
E Saulle mandò a dire ad Isai: Deh! [lascia] che Davide stia davanti a me; perciocchè egli mi è in grazia.
23 And so when the euil spirite of God came vpon Saul, Dauid tooke an harpe and plaied with his hande, and Saul was refreshed, and was eased: for the euill spirit departed from him.
Ora, quando lo spirito malvagio, [mandato] da Dio, era sopra Saulle, Davide pigliava la cetera, e ne sonava con la mano; e Saulle n'era sollevato, e ne stava meglio, e lo spirito malvagio si partiva da lui.
