1 Peter 2
1 Wherefore, laying aside all maliciousnes, and all guile, and dissimulation, and enuie, and all euill speaking,
Então, desistam de todas as coisas ruins que vocês fazem: toda a desonestidade, hipocrisia e inveja e de tudo de ruim que dizem sobre os outros.
2 As newe borne babes desire that sincere milke of the woorde, that yee may growe thereby,
Vocês devem ser como recém-nascidos, que só se alimentam do leite espiritual puro, para que cresçam e encontrem a salvação.
3 Because yee haue tasted that the Lord is bountifull.
Pois, agora, vocês provaram como o Senhor é realmente bom.
4 To whome comming as vnto a liuing stone disallowed of men, but chosen of God and precious,
Ao se aproximar dele – da pedra viva, que as pessoas rejeitaram, achando que fosse inútil, mas que Deus escolheu e que tem grande valor para ele –
5 Yee also as liuely stones, bee made a spirituall house, an holy Priesthoode to offer vp spirituall sacrifices acceptable to God by Iesus Christ.
vocês também se tornarão como pedras vivas, que fazem parte da construção de um templo espiritual. Vocês são como sacerdotes sagrados, que oferecem sacrifícios espirituais que Deus recebe, por intermédio de Jesus Cristo.
6 Wherefore also it is conteyned in the Scripture, Beholde, I put in Sion a chiefe corner stone, elect and precious: and hee that beleeueth therein, shall not be ashamed.
Como está escrito nas Sagradas Escrituras: “Vejam! Eu coloco em Sião uma pedra de muito valor, que foi especialmente escolhida e que é muito importante. Quem crer nela não se desapontará.”
7 Vnto you therefore which beleeue, it is precious: but vnto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
Ela tem muito valor para aqueles que creem nela. Mas, para os que não creem: “A pedra que os construtores rejeitaram se tornou o pilar fundamental.”
8 And a stone to stumble at, and a rocke of offence, euen to them which stumble at the woorde, being disobedient, vnto the which thing they were euen ordeined.
E, também: “A pedra que vai fazer com que vocês tropecem e a rocha que os fará cair.” As pessoas tropeçam nessa mensagem porque se recusam a aceitá-la, e isso já estava destinado a acontecer com elas.
9 But yee are a chosen generation, a royall Priesthoode, an holy nation, a people set at libertie, that yee shoulde shewe foorth the vertues of him that hath called you out of darkenesse into his marueilous light,
Mas, vocês são uma família especialmente escolhida por Deus, são sacerdotes reais, uma nação santa, um povo que pertence exclusivamente a Deus. Por isso, vocês podem revelar as maravilhas que ele fez, tirando vocês das trevas e guiando-os para a sua maravilhosa luz.
10 Which in time past were not a people, yet are nowe the people of God: which in time past were not vnder mercie, but nowe haue obteined mercie.
No passado, vocês eram desconhecidos; mas, agora, são o povo de Deus. No passado, vocês não recebiam misericórdia; mas, agora, recebem-na de Deus.
11 Dearely beloued, I beseeche you, as strangers and pilgrims, abstaine from fleshly lusts, which fight against the soule,
Meus amigos, estou implorando a vocês, como estrangeiros e visitantes neste mundo, para não se entregarem às paixões carnais, que estão em conflito com o que é espiritual.
12 And haue your conuersation honest among the Gentiles, that they which speake euill of you as of euill doers, may by your good woorkes which they shall see, glorifie God in the day of visitation.
Comportem-se adequadamente quando estiverem com não cristãos, pois mesmo que eles os acusem de estarem fazendo algo errado, eles verão as boas ações que vocês realizam e também glorificarão a Deus, quando ele vier.
13 Therefore submit your selues vnto all maner ordinance of man for the Lordes sake, whether it be vnto the King, as vnto the superiour,
Obedeçam à autoridade humana por causa do Senhor, seja ao rei, como a mais alta autoridade,
14 Or vnto gouernours, as vnto them that are sent of him, for the punishment of euill doers, and for the praise of them that doe well.
ou aos governadores que Deus escolheu para punir aqueles que fazem o mal e para elogiar quem faz o bem.
15 For so is the will of God, that by well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of the foolish men,
Ao fazerem o que é bom e justo, Deus quer que vocês façam com que as pessoas tolas parem de fazer acusações sem fundamento.
16 As free, and not as hauing the libertie for a cloke of maliciousnesse, but as the seruauntes of God.
Sim, vocês são pessoas livres! Então, tratem de não usar a sua liberdade como um pretexto para fazer o mal; vivam como servos de Deus.
17 Honour all men: loue brotherly fellowship: feare God: honour the King.
Respeitem a todos. Mostrem todo o seu amor para os irmãos de fé. Tenham respeito por Deus. Respeitem o rei.
18 Seruaunts, be subiect to your masters with all feare, not onely to the good and courteous, but also to the froward.
Se vocês são empregados, então, sejam obedientes aos seus patrões, não apenas em relação aos patrões que são bons e gentis, mas, também, àqueles que são severos.
19 For this is thanke worthie, if a man for conscience toward God endure griefe, suffering wrongfully.
Pois é digno de louvor que vocês suportem as dores da vida e o sofrimento injusto, por causa do seu respeito para com Deus.
20 For what praise is it, if when ye be buffeted for your faultes, yee take it paciently? but and if when ye doe well, ye suffer wrong and take it paciently, this is acceptable to God.
No entanto, não há crédito quando vocês são punidos por fazerem algo errado. Mas, se vocês sofrem por algo que seja bom e justo e suportam tudo, então, a graça de Deus estará com vocês.
21 For hereunto ye are called: for Christ also suffred for you, leauing you an ensample that ye should follow his steppes.
Na verdade, foi para isso que vocês foram chamados, pois Cristo sofreu por vocês e lhes deu o exemplo, para que possam seguir os seus passos.
22 Who did no sinne, neither was there guile found in his mouth.
Ele nunca pecou, nunca mentiu;
23 Who when hee was reuiled, reuiled not againe: when hee suffered, hee threatned not, but comitted it to him that iudgeth righteously.
e, quando foi maltratado, não revidou os ataques que sofreu. Quando ele sofreu, não ameaçou se vingar daqueles que lhe fizeram mal. Ele simplesmente se colocou nas mãos daquele que sempre julga com justiça.
24 Who his owne selfe bare our sinnes in his body on the tree, that we being dead to sinne, should liue in righteousnesse: by whose stripes ye were healed.
O próprio Cristo levou as consequências dos nossos pecados em seu corpo, na cruz, para que pudéssemos morrer para o pecado e viver uma vida correta. “Por suas feridas vocês foram curados.”
25 For ye were as sheepe going astray: but are nowe returned vnto the shepheard and Bishop of your soules.
Em algum momento, vocês eram como ovelhas que se perderam pelo caminho, mas, agora, voltaram a seguir o Pastor, o único que toma conta de vocês.
