1 Kings 5
1 And Hiram King of Tyrus sent his seruants vnto Salomon, (for he had heard, that they had anoynted him King in the roume of his father) because Hiram had euer loued Dauid.
Hiram, roi de Tyr, envoya aussi ses serviteurs vers Salomon; car il apprit qu’on l’avait oint roi, en la place de son père, parce qu’Hiram avait toujours été l’ami de David.
2 Also Salomon sent to Hiram, saying,
Or Salomon envoya vers Hiram, disant:
3 Thou knowest that Dauid my father could not build an house vnto the Name of the Lord his God, for the warres which were about him on euery side, vntill the Lord had put them vnder the soles of his feete.
Vous savez le désir de David mon père, et qu’il n’a pu bâtir une maison au nom du Seigneur son Dieu, à cause des guerres qui le menaçaient de toutes parts, jusqu’à ce que le Seigneur eût mis ses ennemis sous la plante de ses pieds.
4 But now the Lord my God hath giuen me rest on euery side, so that there is neither aduersarie, nor euill to resist.
Mais maintenant le Seigneur mon Dieu m’a donné la paix alentour; et il n’y a ni adversaire, ni obstacle fâcheux.
5 And beholde, I purpose to build an house vnto ye Name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spake vnto Dauid my father, saying, Thy sonne, whom I wil set vpon thy throne for thee, he shall build an house vnto my Name.
C’est pourquoi je pense à bâtir un temple au nom du Seigneur mon Dieu, comme a parlé le Seigneur à David, mon père, disant: Ton fils, que je mettrai en ta place sur ton trône, sera celui qui bâtira une maison à mon nom.
6 Now therefore commaund, that they hewe me cedar trees out of Lebanon, and my seruants shall be with thy seruants, and vnto thee will I giue the hire for thy seruants, according to all that thou shalt appoynt: for thou knowest that there are none among vs, that can hewe timber like vnto the Sidonians.
Ordonnez donc que vos serviteurs coupent pour moi des cèdres du Liban, et que mes serviteurs soient avec les vôtres; quant à la récompense de vos serviteurs, je vous la donnerai telle que vous la demanderez; car vous savez que parmi mon peuple, il n’est pas d’homme qui sache couper le bois comme les Sidoniens.
7 And when Hiram heard the wordes of Salomon, he reioyced greatly, and sayde, Blessed be the Lord this day, which hath giuen vnto Dauid a wise sonne ouer this mightie people.
Lors donc qu’Hiram eut entendu les paroles de Salomon, il se réjouit beaucoup, et dit: Béni aujourd’hui le Seigneur Dieu, qui a donné à David un fils très sage pour gouverner ce très grand peuple!
8 And Hiram sent to Salomon, saying, I haue considered the things, for the which thou sentest vnto me, and will accomplish all thy desire, concerning the cedar trees and firre trees.
Et Hiram envoya vers Salomon, disant: J’ai entendu tout ce que vous m’avez mandé; je ferai tout ce que vous désirez pour les bois de cèdre et de sapin.
9 My seruants shall bring them downe from Lebanon to the sea: and I will conuey them by sea in raftes vnto the place that thou shalt shew me, and wil cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receiue them: nowe thou shalt doe mee a pleasure to minister foode for my familie.
Mes serviteurs les porteront du Liban à la mer, et moi je les ferai mettre en radeaux sur la mer, jusqu’au lieu que vous m’aurez marqué; je les y ferai aborder; vous les enlèverez, et vous me fournirez tout ce qui me sera nécessaire pour nourrir ma maison.
10 So Hiram gaue Salomon cedar trees and firre trees, euen his full desire.
C’est pourquoi Hiram donnait à Salomon des bois de cèdre et de sapin, selon tous ses désirs.
11 And Salomon gaue Hiram twentie thousand measures of wheate for foode to his householde, and twentie measures of beaten oyle. Thus much gaue Salomon to Hiram yere by yere.
Et Salomon fournissait à Hiram, pour nourrir sa maison, vingt mille cors de froment et vingt cors d’huile très pure: voilà ce que Salomon livrait chaque année à Hiram.
12 And the Lord gaue Salomon wisedome as he promised him. And there was peace betweene Hiram and Salomon, and they two made a couenant.
Le Seigneur donna aussi la sagesse à Salomon, comme il le lui avait dit: et il y avait paix entre Hiram et Salomon, et ils firent tous deux alliance.
13 And King Salomon raised a summe out of all Israel, and the summe was thirtie thousand men:
Et le roi Salomon choisit des ouvriers de tout Israël, et la taxation était de trente mille hommes.
14 Whome he sent to Lebanon, ten thousand a moneth by course: they were a moneth in Lebanon, and two moneths at home. And Adoniram was ouer the summe.
Et il les envoyait au Liban tour à tour, dix mille chaque mois, de sorte qu’ils étaient deux mois dans leurs maisons; et Adoniram était préposé à cette taxation.
15 And Salomon had seuentie thousand that bare burdens, and fourescore thousand masons in the mountaine,
Salomon avait soixante-dix mille hommes qui portaient des fardeaux, et quatre-vingt mille qui taillaient des pierres sur la montagne,
16 Besides the princes, whome Salomon appoynted ouer the worke, euen three thousande and three hundreth, which ruled the people that wrought in the worke.
Sans les préposés qui présidaient à chaque ouvrage, au nombre de trois mille trois cents, et qui donnaient les ordres au peuple et à ceux qui faisaient l’ouvrage.
17 And the King commanded them, and they brought great stones and costly stones to make the foundation of the house, euen hewed stones.
Et le roi leur ordonna de prendre de grandes pierres, des pierres de prix, pour les fondements du temple, et de les équarrir;
18 And Salomons workemen, and the workemen of Hiram, and the masons hewed and prepared timber and stones for the buylding of the house.
Et les maçons de Salomon et les maçons d’Hiram les taillèrent; or ceux de Giblos préparèrent les bois et les pierres pour bâtir la maison du Seigneur.
