1 Kings 3
1 Salomon then made affinitie with Pharaoh King of Egypt, and tooke Pharaohs daughter, and brought her into the citie of Dauid, vntill hee had made an ende of buylding his owne house, and the house of the Lord, and the wall of Ierusalem round about.
૧સુલેમાને મિસરના રાજા ફારુનની સાથે સંબંધ બાંધીને તેની દીકરી સાથે લગ્ન કર્યું. તે પોતાનો મહેલ, યહોવાહનું ભક્તિસ્થાન તથા યરુશાલેમની ફરતે દીવાલ બાંધી રહ્યો, ત્યાં સુધી તેણે ફારુનની દીકરીને દાઉદનગરમાં રાખી.
2 Only the people sacrificed in the hie places, because there was no house buylt vnto the name of the Lord, vntill those dayes.
૨લોકો ધર્મસ્થાનોમાં અર્પણ કરતા, કેમ કે તે દિવસો સુધી યહોવાહના નામનું ભક્તિસ્થાન બાંધવામાં આવ્યું નહોતું.
3 And Salomon loued the Lord, walking in the ordinances of Dauid his father: onely he sacrificed and offred incense in the hie places.
૩સુલેમાન પોતાના પિતા દાઉદના વિધિઓ પ્રમાણે ચાલીને યહોવાહ પર પ્રેમ રાખતો હતો, તે ધર્મસ્થાનોમાં અર્પણ કરતો હતો અને ધૂપ બાળતો હતો.
4 And the King went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the chiefe hie place: a thousand burnt offrings did Salomon offer vpon that altar.
૪રાજા ગિબ્યોનમાં અર્પણ કરવા ગયો, કેમ કે તે મોટું ધર્મસ્થાન હતું. તે વેદી પર સુલેમાને એક હજાર દહનીયાર્પણ ચઢાવ્યાં.
5 In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Salomon in a dreame by night: and God sayd, Aske what I shall giue thee.
૫ગિબ્યોનમાં યહોવાહે રાત્રે સુલેમાનને સ્વપ્નમાં દર્શન આપીને કહ્યું, “માગ! હું તને શું આપું?”
6 And Salomon sayd, Thou hast shewed vnto thy seruant Dauid my father great mercie, when hee walked before thee in trueth, and in righteousnesse, and in vprightnes of heart with thee: and thou hast kept for him this great mercie, and hast giuen him a sonne, to sit on his throne, as appeareth this day.
૬તેથી સુલેમાને કહ્યું, “તમારા સેવક, મારા પિતા દાઉદ જે પ્રમાણે તમારી આગળ સત્યતાથી, ન્યાયીપણાથી તથા તમારી સાથે પ્રામાણિક હૃદયથી ચાલ્યા, તે પ્રમાણે તમે તેમના પર મોટી કૃપા પણ કરી. તમે તેમના પર આ મોટી કૃપા કરી છે એટલે જેમ આજે છે તેમ, તેમના રાજ્યાસન પર બેસવા તમે તેમને દીકરો આપ્યો છે.
7 And now, O Lord my God, thou hast made thy seruant King in steade of Dauid my father: and I am but a yong childe, and know not howe to go out and in.
૭હવે હે યહોવાહ મારા ઈશ્વર, તમે આ તમારા દાસને મારા પિતા દાઉદને સ્થાને રાજા કર્યો છે, હું તો હજી માત્ર નાનો બાળક છું. કેવી રીતે બહાર જવું અથવા અંદર આવવું તે હું જાણતો નથી.
8 And thy seruant is in the mids of thy people, which thou hast chosen, euen a great people which cannot be told nor nobred for multitude.
૮તમારા પસંદ કરેલા લોકો કે, જે એક એવી મહાન પ્રજા છે, જેની ગણતરી કે સંખ્યા પુષ્કળતાને લીધે કરી શકાય નહિ તેઓ મધ્યે તમારો સેવક છે.
9 Giue therefore vnto thy seruant an vnderstanding heart, to iudge thy people, that I may discerne betweene good and bad: for who is able to iudge this thy mightie people?
૯માટે તમારા લોકોનો ન્યાય કરવા મને તમારા સેવકને વિવેક અને બુદ્વિવાળું હૃદય આપો, કે જેથી સાચા અને ખોટાનો તફાવત હું પારખી શકું. કેમ કે આ તમારી મહાન પ્રજાનો ન્યાય કરવા કોણ શક્તિમાન છે?”
10 And this pleased the Lord well, that Salomon had desired this thing.
૧૦સુલેમાનની વિનંતીથી પ્રભુ પ્રસન્ન થયા.
11 And God sayde vnto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thy selfe long life, neyther hast asked riches for thy selfe, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thy selfe vnderstanding to heare iudgement,
૧૧તેથી ઈશ્વરે તેને કહ્યું, “તેં યોગ્ય માગણી કરી છે અને પોતાના માટે લાબું આયુષ્ય માગ્યું નથી. વળી તેં પોતાને માટે સંપત્તિ અથવા તારા દુશ્મનોના જીવ માગ્યા નથી, પણ ન્યાય કરવા માટે બુદ્ધિ માગી છે,
12 Beholde, I haue done according to thy wordes: lo, I haue giuen thee a wise and an vnderstanding heart, so that there hath bene none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall arise the like vnto thee.
૧૨તે માટે મેં તારી ઇચ્છા પ્રમાણે કર્યું છે. મેં તને જ્ઞાની તથા વિવેકબુદ્ધિવાળું હૃદય આપ્યું છે. હવે કૌશલ્ય અને બુદ્ધિમતામાં તારી અગાઉ તારા જેવો કોઈ થયો નથી અને હવે પછી તારા જેવો કોઈ થશે પણ નહિ.
13 And I haue also giuen thee that, which thou hast not asked, both riches and honour, so that among the Kings there shall be none like vnto thee all thy dayes.
૧૩વળી તેં જે માગ્યું નથી તે પણ એટલે દ્રવ્ય તથા સન્માન, એ બન્ને મેં તને આપ્યાં છે. તારા સર્વ દિવસોભર રાજાઓમાં તારા જેવો કોઈ થશે નહિ.
14 And if thou wilt walke in my wayes, to keepe mine ordinances and my commandements, as thy father Dauid did walke, I will prolong thy dayes.
૧૪જો તું તારા પિતા દાઉદની જેમ મારા વિધિઓ તથા મારી આજ્ઞાઓ પાળીને મારા માર્ગે ચાલશે, તો હું તને લાંબુ આયુષ્ય આપીશ.”
15 And when Salomon awoke, behold, it was a dreame, and he came to Ierusalem, and stoode before the Arke of the couenant of the Lord, and offred burnt offrings and made peace offrings, and made a feast to all his seruants.
૧૫પછી સુલેમાન જાગ્યો, તો જુઓ, એ તો સ્વપ્ન હતું. તે યરુશાલેમ આવ્યો અને પ્રભુના કરારકોશ આગળ ઊભો રહ્યો. તેણે દહનીયાર્પણ તથા શાંત્યર્પણ ચઢાવ્યાં અને પોતાના સર્વ ચાકરોને મિજબાની આપી.
16 Then came two harlots vnto the King, and stoode before him.
૧૬પછી બે સ્ત્રીઓ જે ગણિકા હતી તે રાજા પાસે આવીને ઊભી રહી.
17 And the one woman sayd, Oh my lorde, I and this woman dwell in one house, and I was deliuered of a childe with her in the house.
૧૭તેમાંની એક સ્ત્રીએ કહ્યું, “હે મારા માલિક, હું તથા આ સ્ત્રી એક જ ઘરમાં રહીએ છીએ અને જે ઘરમાં હું તેની સાથે રહું છું તેમાં મેં એક બાળકને જન્મ આપ્યો.
18 And the third day after that I was deliuered, this woman was deliuered also: and we were in the house together: no stranger was with vs in the house, saue we twaine.
૧૮મારી પ્રસૂતિને ત્રીજે દિવસે એમ થયું કે આ સ્ત્રીને પણ એક બાળક જનમ્યું. અમે એકસાથે રહેતાં હતાં. અમારી સાથે ઘરમાં બીજું કોઈ નહોતું, પણ અમે બે જ ઘરમાં હતાં.
19 And this womans sonne died in the night: for she ouerlay him.
૧૯આ સ્ત્રીનો દીકરો રાત્રે મરણ પામ્યો, કારણ કે ઊંઘમાં પાસું ફેરવતાં તેનો દીકરો તેનાથી દબાઈ ગયો હતો.
20 And she rose at midnight, and tooke my sonne from my side, while thine handmaide slept, and layde him in her bosome, and layde her dead sonne in my bosome.
૨૦તેથી તેણે મધરાત્રે ઊઠીને આ તમારી દાસી ઊંઘતી હતી એટલામાં મારા દીકરાને મારી પાસેથી લઈ જઈને પોતાની પાસે સુવડાવ્યો અને તેના મરણ પામેલા દીકરાને મારી પાસે સુવડાવ્યો.
21 And when I rose in the morning to giue my sonne sucke, beholde, he was dead: and when I had well considered him in the morning, beholde, it was not my sonne, whom I had borne.
૨૧જયારે હું સવારમાં મારા બાળકને દૂધ પીવડાવવા ઊઠી, ત્યારે તો તે મરણ પામેલો હતો. પણ મેં તેને સવારમાં ધ્યાનથી જોયો, તો તે મારાથી જન્મેલો મારો દીકરો નહોતો.”
22 Then the other woman sayd, Nay, but my sonne liueth, and thy sonne is dead. Againe she sayde, No, but thy sonne is dead, and mine aliue: thus they spake before the King.
૨૨પછી બીજી સ્ત્રી બોલી, “ના, જે જીવતો દીકરો છે તે તો મારો છે અને જે મરણ પામેલો છે તે તારો દીકરો છે.” પ્રથમ સ્ત્રીએ કહ્યું, “ના, મરણ પામેલો દીકરો તારો છે અને જે જીવતો છે તે મારો છે.” આમ તેઓએ રાજા આગળ વિવાદ કર્યો.
23 Then sayde the King, She sayth, This that liueth is my sonne, and the dead is thy sonne: and the other sayth, Nay, but the dead is thy sonne, and the liuing is my sonne.
૨૩પછી રાજાએ કહ્યું, “એક કહે છે, ‘આ જીવતો તે મારો દીકરો છે અને મરણ પામેલો તે તારો દીકરો છે.’ અને બીજી કહે છે, ‘ના, મરણ પામેલો દીકરો તારો છે અને જીવતો દીકરો મારો છે.’
24 Then the King said, Bring me a sworde: and they brought out a sworde before the King.
૨૪રાજાએ કહ્યું, “મને એક તલવાર લાવી આપો.” તેઓ રાજા પાસે એક તલવાર લાવ્યા.
25 And the King sayde, Deuide ye the liuing child in twaine, and giue the one halfe to the one, and the other halfe to the other.
૨૫પછી રાજાએ કહ્યું, “આ જીવતા બાળકના ઉપરથી નીચે બે સરખા ભાગ કરીને એકને અડધો ભાગ અને બીજીને અડધો ભાગ આપો.”
26 Then spake the woman, whose the liuing child was, vnto the King, for her compassion was kindled toward her sonne, and she sayde, Oh my lorde, giue her the liuing childe, and slay him not: but the other sayde, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but deuide it.
૨૬પછી જે સ્ત્રીનો દીકરો જીવતો હતો તેણે રાજાને અરજ કરી, કેમ કે પોતાના દીકરાને માટે તેનું હૃદય ભરાઈ આવ્યું હતું. તેણે કહ્યું, “હે મારા માલિક, તે સ્ત્રીને જીવતો દીકરો આપો અને ગમે તે હોય પણ તેને મારી તો ન જ નાખો.” પણ બીજી સ્ત્રીએ કહ્યું, “તે મારો પણ ન થાય તેમ જ તારો પણ ન થાય. તેના બે ભાગ કરો.”
27 Then the King answered, and sayde, Giue her the liuing childe, and slay him not: this is his mother.
૨૭પછી રાજાએ જવાબ આપ્યો, “જીવતો દીકરો પહેલી સ્ત્રીને આપો. કેમ કે તે જ તેની માતા છે, દીકરાને મારી નાખો નહિ.”
28 And all Israel heard the iudgement, which the King had iudged, and they feared the King: for they sawe that the wisedome of God was in him to doe iustice.
૨૮રાજાએ જે ન્યાય કર્યો હતો, તે વિષે જયારે સર્વ ઇઝરાયલે સાંભળ્યું, ત્યારે તેઓને રાજાનો ભય લાગ્યો, કેમ કે તેઓએ જોયું કે ન્યાય કરવા તેનામાં ઈશ્વરનું જ્ઞાન છે.
