1 Kings 20
1 Then Ben-hadad the King of Aram assembled all his armie, and two and thirtie Kings with him, with horses, and charets, and went vp and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.
ইত্যবসরে অরামের রাজা বিন্হদদ তাঁর সমগ্র সৈন্যদল একত্রিত করলেন। বত্রিশজন রাজা ও তাদের ঘোড়া ও রথ সঙ্গে নিয়ে গিয়ে তিনি চারদিক থেকে শমরিয়া নগরটিকে ঘিরে ধরে সেখানে আক্রমণ চালিয়েছিলেন।
2 And he sent messengers to Ahab King of Israel, into the citie,
তিনি এই কথা বলার জন্য নগরে ইস্রায়েলের রাজা আহাবের কাছে দূত পাঠালেন, “বিনহদদ এই কথা বলেন:
3 And sayd vnto him, Thus sayth Ben-hadad, Thy siluer and thy golde is mine: also thy women, and thy fayre children are mine.
‘আপনার রুপো ও সোনাদানা সব আমার, এবং আপনার বাছাই করা স্ত্রী ও সন্তানেরাও আমার।’”
4 And the King of Israel answered, and sayd, My lord King, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I haue.
ইস্রায়েলের রাজা উত্তর দিলেন, “হে আমার প্রভু মহারাজ, আপনি ঠিকই বলেছেন। আমি ও আমার সবকিছুই আপনার।”
5 And when the messengers came againe, they said, Thus commandeth Ben-hadad, and saith, When I shall send vnto thee, and command, thou shalt deliuer me thy siluer and thy golde, and thy women, and thy children,
দূতেরা আরেকবার এসে বলল, “বিন্হদদ একথাই বলেন: ‘আমি আপনার রুপো ও সোনাদানা, আপনার স্ত্রী ও সন্তানদের চেয়ে নেওয়ার জন্য লোক পাঠিয়েছিলাম।
6 Or els I will sende my seruants vnto thee by to morow this time: and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy seruants: and whatsoeuer is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall take it in their handes, and bring it away.
কিন্তু আগামীকাল মোটামুটি এসময় আপনার রাজপ্রাসাদে ও আপনার কর্মকর্তাদের বাড়িতে তল্লাসি চালানোর জন্য আমি আমার কর্মকর্তাদের পাঠাতে যাচ্ছি। আপনার কাছে যা যা মূল্যবান, সেসবকিছু তারা বাজেয়াপ্ত করে নিয়ে চলে যাবে।’”
7 Then the King of Israel sent for all the Elders of the land, and sayd, Take heede, I pray you, and see how he seeketh mischiefe: for he sent vnto me for my wiues, and for my children, and for my siluer, and for my golde, and I denyed him not.
ইস্রায়েলের রাজা আহাব দেশের সব প্রাচীনকে ডেকে পাঠালেন এবং তাদের বললেন, “দেখুন কীভাবে এই লোকটি অনিষ্ট করার চেষ্টা করছেন! তিনি যখন আমার স্ত্রী ও সন্তানদের, আমার রুপো ও সোনাদানা চেয়ে পাঠালেন, আমি তাঁর কথা অমান্য করিনি।”
8 And all the Elders, and all the people sayd to him, Hearken not vnto him, nor consent.
প্রাচীনেরা ও সব লোকজন উত্তর দিয়েছিল, “তাঁর কথা শুনবেন না বা তাঁর দাবি মানবেন না।”
9 Wherefore hee sayde vnto the messengers of Ben-hadad, Tell my lorde the King, All that thou didddest sende for to thy seruant at the first time, that I will doe, but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him an answere.
অতএব তিনি বিনহদদের দূতদের জবাব দিলেন, “আমার প্রভু মহারাজকে গিয়ে বলো, ‘আপনি প্রথমবার যে যে দাবি জানিয়েছিলেন, আপনার দাস সেসব মানবে, কিন্তু আপনার এই দাবিটি আমি মানতে পারছি না।’” তারা এই উত্তর নিয়ে বিন্হদদের কাছে ফিরে গেল।
10 And Ben-hadad sent vnto him, and sayde, The gods do so to me and more also, if the dust of Samaria be ynough to all the people that follow me, for euery man an handfull.
পরে বিন্হদদ আহাবের কাছে অন্য একটি খবর দিয়ে পাঠালেন: “আমার লোকজনের হাতে দেওয়ার মতো ধুলোও যদি শমরিয়ায় পড়ে থাকে, তবে যেন দেবদেবীরা আমায় কঠোর থেকে কঠোরতর দণ্ড দেন।”
11 And the King of Israel answered, and sayd, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth his harneis, boast himselfe, as he that putteth it off.
ইস্রায়েলের রাজা উত্তর দিলেন, “তাঁকে গিয়ে বলো: ‘যিনি রক্ষাকবচ ধারণ করলেন, তাঁর এমন কোনও লোকের মতো অহংকার করা উচিত নয়, যিনি তা খুলে ফেলেছেন।’”
12 And when he heard that tidings, as he was with the Kings drinking in the pauilions, he sayd vnto his seruants, Bring forth your engines, and they set them against the citie.
বিনহদদ ও অন্যান্য রাজারা যখন তাঁবুতে বসে মদ্যপান করছিলেন, তখনই তিনি এই খবরটি পেয়েছিলেন, এবং তিনি তাঁর লোকজনকে আদেশ দিলেন: “আক্রমণ করার জন্য প্রস্তুত হও।” অতএব তারা নগরটি আক্রমণ করার জন্য প্রস্তুত হল।
13 And beholde, there came a Prophet vnto Ahab King of Israel, saying, Thus sayeth the Lord, Hast thou seene all this great multitude? beholde, I will deliuer it into thine hande this day, that thou mayest knowe, that I am the Lord.
এদিকে একজন ভাববাদী ইস্রায়েলের রাজা আহাবের কাছে এসে ঘোষণা করলেন, “সদাপ্রভু একথাই বলেন: ‘তুমি কি এই বিশাল সৈন্যদল দেখছ? আজই আমি এদের তোমার হাতে তুলে দেব, আর তখনই তুমি জানতে পারবে যে আমিই সদাপ্রভু।’”
14 And Ahab sayd, By whome? And he sayde, Thus sayth the Lord, By the seruants of the princes of the prouinces. He sayde againe, Who shall order the battel? And he answered, Thou.
“কিন্তু কে এ কাজ করবে?” আহাব জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন। ভাববাদীমশাই উত্তরে বললেন, “সদাপ্রভু একথাই বলেন: ‘প্রাদেশিক সেনাপতিদের অধীনে থাকা নিম্নপদস্থ কর্মকর্তারা এ কাজ করবে।’” “আর যুদ্ধ কে শুরু করবে?” তিনি জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন। ভাববাদীমশাই উত্তর দিলেন, “আপনিই করবেন।”
15 Then he nombred the seruantes of the princes of the prouinces, and they were two hundreth, two and thirtie: and after them he nombred the whole people of all the children of Israel, euen seuen thousand.
অতএব আহাব প্রাদেশিক সেনাপতিদের অধীনে থাকা 232 জন নিম্নপদস্থ কর্মকর্তাকে ডেকে পাঠালেন। পরে তিনি অবশিষ্ট মোট 7,000 ইস্রায়েলী লোক একত্রিত করলেন।
16 And they went out at noone: but Ben-hadad did drinke till he was drunken in the tentes, both he and the Kings: for two and thirtie Kings helped him.
বিন্হদদ ও তাঁর মিত্রপক্ষের বত্রিশজন রাজা যখন দুপুরবেলায় তাঁবুতে মাতাল হয়ে পড়েছিলেন, তখনই তারা রওনা হল।
17 So the seruants of the princes of the prouinces went out first: and Ben-hadad sent out, and they shewed him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.
প্রাদেশিক সেনাপতিদের অধীনে থাকা নিম্নপদস্থ কর্মকর্তারাই প্রথমে রওনা হল। ইত্যবসরে বিন্হদদ শত্রুপক্ষের খবর নেওয়ার জন্য লোক পাঠালেন, এবং তারা খবর দিয়েছিল, “শমরিয়া থেকে লোকজন এগিয়ে আসছে।”
18 And he sayde, Whether they be come out for peace, take them aliue: or whether they bee come out to fight, take them yet aliue.
তিনি বললেন, “তারা যদি সন্ধি করার জন্য আসছে, তবে তাদের জ্যান্ত অবস্থায় ধরো; যদি তারা যুদ্ধ করার জন্য আসছে, তাও তাদের জ্যান্ত অবস্থায় ধরো।”
19 So they came out of the citie, to wit, the seruants of the princes of the prouinces, and the hoste which followed them.
প্রাদেশিক সেনাপতিদের অধীনে থাকা নিম্নপদস্থ কর্মকর্তারা নগর ছেড়ে কুচকাওয়াজ করে বের হয়ে এসেছিল। সৈন্যদল ছিল তাদের পিছনে
20 And they slew euery one his enemie: and the Aramites fled, and Israel pursued them: but Ben-hadad ye King of Aram escaped on an horse with his horsemen.
এবং এক একজন তাদের প্রতিপক্ষকে আঘাত করল। তাতে অরামীয়রা পালিয়ে গেল, এবং ইস্রায়েলীরা তাদের পিছু ধাওয়া করল। কিন্তু অরামের রাজা বিন্হদদ কয়েকজন অশ্বারোহী সৈন্য সাথে নিয়ে ঘোড়ার পিঠে চেপে পালিয়ে গেলেন।
21 And the King of Israel went out, and smote the horses and charets, and with a great slaughter slew he the Aramites.
ইস্রায়েলের রাজা এগিয়ে গিয়ে ঘোড়া ও রথগুলি কাবু করলেন এবং অরামীয়দের উপর ভারী ক্ষয়ক্ষতির বোঝা চাপিয়ে দিলেন।
22 (For there had come a Prophet to the King of Israel, and had sayd vnto him, Goe, be of good courage, and consider, and take heede what thou doest: for when the yeere is gone about, the King of Aram wil come vp against thee)
পরে, সেই ভাববাদী ইস্রায়েলের রাজার কাছে এসে বললেন, “নিজের অবস্থান মজবুত করুন এবং দেখুন কী করতে হবে, কারণ আগামী বছর বসন্তকালে অরামের রাজা আবার আপনাকে আক্রমণ করবেন।”
23 Then the seruants of the King of Aram said vnto him, Their gods are gods of the moutaines, and therefore they ouercame vs: but let vs fight against them in the playne, and doubtlesse we shall ouercome them.
এদিকে, অরামের রাজার কর্মকর্তারা তাঁকে পরামর্শ দিয়েছিল, “ওদের দেবদেবীরা পাহাড়ের দেবদেবী। এজন্যই ওরা আমাদের তুলনায় বেশি শক্তিশালী হয়ে গিয়েছে। কিন্তু আমরা যদি সমতলে নেমে ওদের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করি, নিঃসন্দেহে আমরা ওদের তুলনায় বেশি শক্তিশালী হব।
24 And this doe, Take the Kings away, euery one out of his place, and place captaines for them.
আপনি এক কাজ করুন: রাজাদের সরিয়ে দিয়ে তাদের স্থানে অন্যান্য কর্মকর্তাদের কাজে লাগান।
25 And nomber thy selfe an armie, like the armie that thou hast lost, with such horses, and such charets, and we wil fight against them in the plaine, and doubtlesse we shall ouercome them: and he hearkened vnto their voyce, and did so.
যে সৈন্যদল আপনি হারিয়েছেন, সেটির মতো আরও একটি সৈন্যদল গড়ে তুলুন—ঘোড়ার পরিবর্তে ঘোড়া এবং রথের পরিবর্তে রথ—তবেই আমরা সমতলে ইস্রায়েলের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করতে পারব। তখন নিঃসন্দেহে আমরা ওদের তুলনায় বেশি শক্তিশালী হয়ে যাব।” তিনি তাদের কথায় রাজি হয়ে সেইমতোই কাজ করলেন।
26 And after the yeere was gone about, Ben-hadad nombred the Aramites, and went vp to Aphek to fight against Israel.
পরের বছর বসন্তকালে বিন্হদদ অরামীয়দের একত্রিত করে অফেকে ইস্রায়েলের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করতে গেলেন।
27 And the children of Israel were nombred, and were all assembled and went against them, and the children of Israel pitched before them, like two litle flockes of kiddes: but the Aramites filled the countrey.
ইস্রায়েলীদেরও যখন একত্রিত করে সবকিছুর জোগান দেওয়া হল, তারা কুচকাওয়াজ করে অরামীয়দের সম্মুখীন হতে গেল। ইস্রায়েলীরা ছোটো দুটি ছাগপালের মতো তাদের বিপরীত দিকে শিবির স্থাপন করল, অন্যদিকে অরামীয়দের দ্বারা গ্রামাঞ্চলের সম্পূর্ণ এলাকা ঢাকা পড়ে গেল।
28 And there came a man of God, and spake vnto the King of Israel, saying, Thus sayeth the Lord, Because the Aramites haue sayd, The Lord is the God of the mountaines, and not God of the valleis, therefore will I deliuer all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
ঈশ্বরের সেই লোক এসে ইস্রায়েলের রাজাকে বললেন, “সদাপ্রভু একথাই বলেন: ‘যেহেতু অরামীয়রা মনে করেছে সদাপ্রভু পাহাড়ের দেবতা এবং তিনি উপত্যকার দেবতা নন, তাই আমি এই বিশাল সংখ্যক সৈন্যদল তোমাদের হাতে সমর্পণ করব, এবং তোমরা জানবে যে আমিই সদাপ্রভু।’”
29 And they pitched one ouer against the other seuen dayes, and in the seuenth day the battel was ioyned: and the children of Israel slew of the Aramites an hundreth thousand footemen in one day.
সাত দিন পর্যন্ত তারা পরস্পরের বিপরীতে শিবির স্থাপন করে বসেছিল, এবং সপ্তম দিনে যুদ্ধ বেধে গেল। একদিনেই ইস্রায়েলীরা অরামীয়দের এক লক্ষ পদাতিক সৈন্য মেরে ফেলেছিল।
30 But the rest fled to Aphek into the citie: and there fel a wall vpon seuen and twentie thousand men that were left: and Ben-hadad fled into the citie, and came into a secret chamber.
অবশিষ্ট সৈন্যরা সেই অফেক নগরে পালিয়ে গেল, যেখানে সাতাশ হাজার সৈন্যের উপর প্রাচীর ভেঙে পড়েছিল। বিন্হদদ সেই নগরে পালিয়ে গিয়ে ভিতরের একটি ঘরে লুকিয়েছিলেন।
31 And his seruants sayd vnto him, Beholde nowe, we haue heard say that the Kings of the house of Israel are mercifull Kings: we pray thee, let vs put sacke cloth about our loynes, and ropes about our heads, and goe out to the King of Israel: it may be that he will saue thy life.
তাঁর কর্মকর্তারা তাঁকে বলল, “দেখুন, আমরা শুনেছি যে ইস্রায়েলের রাজারা নাকি খুব দয়ালু। আসুন, আমরা সবাই কোমরের চারপাশে চট ঝুলিয়ে ও মাথার চারপাশে দড়ি বেঁধে ইস্রায়েলের রাজার কাছে যাই। হয়তো তিনি আপনার প্রাণভিক্ষা দেবেন।”
32 Then they gyrded sackecloth about their loynes, and put ropes about their heads, and came to the King of Israel, and sayd, Thy seruant Ben-hadad sayth, I pray thee, let me liue: and he sayd, Is he yet aliue? he is my brother.
কোমরের চারপাশে চট ঝুলিয়ে ও মাথার চারপাশে দড়ি বেঁধে তারা ইস্রায়েলের রাজার কাছে গিয়ে বলল, “আপনার দাস বিন্হদদ বলছেন: ‘দয়া করে আমাকে বাঁচতে দিন।’” রাজামশাই উত্তর দিলেন, “তিনি কি এখনও বেঁচে আছেন? তিনি তো আমার ভাই।”
33 Now the men tooke diliget heede, if they could catch any thing of him, and made haste, and sayd, Thy brother Ben-hadad. And he sayd, Go, bring him. So Ben-hadad came out vnto him, and he caused him to come vp vnto the chariot.
লোকেরা এটি ভালো লক্ষণ বলে মনে করল এবং তৎক্ষণাৎ তাঁর কথা ধরে বলে উঠেছিল, “হ্যাঁ, আপনারই ভাই বিনহদদ!” “যাও, তাঁকে নিয়ে এসো,” রাজামশাই বললেন। বিন্হদদ যখন বের হয়ে এলেন, আহাব তাঁকে নিজের রথে উঠিয়ে নিয়েছিলেন।
34 And Ben-hadad sayd vnto him, The cities, which my father tooke from thy father, I wil restore, and thou shalt make streetes for thee in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will let thee goe with this couenant. So he made a couenant with him, and let him goe.
“আমার বাবা আপনার বাবার কাছ থেকে যেসব নগর ছিনিয়ে নিয়েছিলেন, আমি সেগুলি ফিরিয়ে দেব,” বিনহদদ প্রস্তাব দিলেন। “আমার বাবা যেভাবে শমরিয়ায় বাজারঘাট বসিয়েছিলেন, আপনিও দামাস্কাসে আপনার নিজস্ব বাজারঘাট বসাতে পারেন।” আহাব বললেন, “একটি সন্ধিচুক্তির শর্তস্বাপেক্ষে আমি আপনাকে মুক্ত করে দেব।” অতএব তিনি বিন্হদদের সঙ্গে একটি সন্ধিচুক্তি করলেন, এবং তাঁকে যেতে দিলেন।
35 Then a certaine man of the children of the Prophets sayd vnto his neighbour by the comandement of the Lord, Smite me, I pray thee. But the man refused to smite him.
সদাপ্রভুর বাক্যানুসারে ভাববাদী সম্প্রদায়ের মধ্যে একজন তাঁর সহচরকে বললেন, “তোমার অস্ত্র দিয়ে আমাকে আঘাত করো,” কিন্তু তিনি রাজি হননি।
36 Then sayd he vnto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voyce of the Lord, beholde, as soone as thou art departed from me, a lyon shall slay thee. So when he was departed from him, a lyon found him and slew him.
অতএব সেই ভাববাদীমশাই বললেন, “যেহেতু তুমি সদাপ্রভুর কথার বাধ্য হওনি, তাই যে মুহূর্তে তুমি আমাকে ছেড়ে যাবে, একটি সিংহ তোমাকে মেরে ফেলবে।” সেই লোকটি চলে যাওয়ার পর মুহূর্তেই একটি সিংহ তাকে পেয়ে মেরে ফেলেছিল।
37 Then he founde another man, and sayde, Smite mee, I pray thee. And the man smote him, and in smiting wounded him.
সেই ভাববাদীমশাই অন্য একজনকে পেয়ে তাকে বললেন, “দয়া করে আমাকে আঘাত করো।” তাই সে তাঁকে আঘাত করে তাঁকে ক্ষতবিক্ষত করে তুলেছিল।
38 So the Prophet departed, and wayted for the King by the way, and disguised himselfe with ashes vpon his face.
তখন সেই ভাববাদীমশাই সেখান থেকে চলে গিয়ে পথে দাঁড়িয়ে রাজার আসার অপেক্ষা করছিলেন। তিনি মাথার পাগড়ি দিয়ে চোখ ঢেকে ছদ্মবেশ ধারণ করলেন।
39 And when the King came by, he cried vnto the King, and said, Thy seruant went into the middes of the battel: and beholde, there went away a man, whom another man brought vnto me, and sayd, Keepe this man: if he be lost, and want, thy life shall go for his life, or els thou shalt pay a talent of siluer.
রাজামশাই যেই না পথ দিয়ে পার হয়ে যাচ্ছিলেন, সেই ভাববাদীমশাই তাঁকে ডেকে বলে উঠেছিলেন, “আপনার এই দাস আমি যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রের মাঝামাঝি চলে গেলাম, এবং কেউ একজন আমার কাছে একজন বন্দিকে নিয়ে এসে বলল, ‘এই লোকটিকে পাহারা দাও। যদি একে খুঁজে পাওয়া না যায়, তবে এর প্রাণের পরিবর্তে তোমার প্রাণ যাবে, অথবা তোমাকে এক তালন্ত রুপো দিতে হবে।’
40 And as thy seruant had here and there to do, he was gone: And the King of Israel said vnto him, So shall thy iudgement be: thou hast giuen sentence.
আপনার এই দাস যখন এদিক-ওদিক একটু ব্যস্ত হয়ে পড়েছিল, লোকটি উধাও হয়ে গেল।” “তোমাকে ওই শাস্তিই পেতে হবে,” ইস্রায়েলের রাজা বললেন। “তুমি নিজেই নিজের শাস্তি ঘোষণা করেছ।”
41 And hee hasted, and tooke the ashes away from his face: and the King of Israel knewe him that he was of the Prophets:
তখন সেই ভাববাদীমশাই তাড়াতাড়ি তাঁর চোখের উপর থেকে পাগড়িটি সরিয়ে ফেলেছিলেন, এবং ইস্রায়েলের রাজা চিনতে পেরেছিলেন যে তিনি ভাববাদীদের মধ্যেই একজন।
42 And he said vnto him, Thus saith the Lord, Because thou hast let goe out of thine handes a man whom I appoynted to dye, thy life shall goe for his life, and thy people for his people.
তিনি রাজামশাইকে বললেন, “সদাপ্রভু একথাই বলেন: ‘তুমি এমন একজন লোককে মুক্ত করে দিয়েছ, যাকে মরতে হবে বলে আমি স্থির করে রেখেছিলাম। অতএব তার প্রাণের পরিবর্তে তোমার প্রাণ যাবে, তার লোকজনের পরিবর্তে তোমার লোকজন যাবে।’”
43 And the King of Israel went to his house heauie and in displeasure, and came to Samaria.
বিষণ্ণ-গম্ভীর ও ক্রুদ্ধ হয়ে ইস্রায়েলের রাজা শমরিয়ায় তাঁর প্রাসাদে চলে গেলেন।
