1 Kings 2
1 Then the dayes of Dauid drewe neere that he should die, and hee charged Salomon his sonne, saying,
David approchait du moment de sa mort, et il donna ses ordres à Salomon, son fils, en disant:
2 I go the way of all the earth: be strong therefore, and shew thy selfe a man,
Je m’en vais par le chemin de toute la terre. Fortifie-toi, et sois un homme!
3 And take heede to the charge of the Lord thy God, to walke in his wayes, and keepe his statutes, and his commandements, and his iudgements, and his testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and in euery thing whereunto thou turnest thee,
Observe les commandements de l’Éternel, ton Dieu, en marchant dans ses voies, et en gardant ses lois, ses ordonnances, ses jugements et ses préceptes, selon ce qui est écrit dans la loi de Moïse, afin que tu réussisses dans tout ce que tu feras et partout où tu te tourneras,
4 That the Lord may confirme his worde which hee spake vnto me, saying, If thy sonnes take heede to their way, that they walke before me in trueth, with all their hearts, and with all their soules, thou shalt not (sayd he) want one of thy posteritie vpon the throne of Israel.
et afin que l’Éternel accomplisse cette parole qu’il a prononcée sur moi: Si tes fils prennent garde à leur voie, en marchant avec fidélité devant moi, de tout leur cœur, et de toute leur âme, tu ne manqueras jamais d’un successeur sur le trône d’Israël.
5 Thou knowest also what Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two captaines of the hostes of Israel, vnto Abner the sonne of Ner, and vnto Amasa the sonne of Iether: whome he slewe, and shed blood of battell in peace, and put the blood of warre vpon his girdle that was about his loynes, and in his shooes that were on his feete.
Tu sais ce que m’a fait Joab, fils de Tseruja, ce qu’il a fait à deux chefs de l’armée d’Israël, à Abner, fils de Ner, et à Amasa, fils de Jéther. Il les a tués; il a versé pendant la paix le sang de la guerre, et il a mis le sang de la guerre sur la ceinture qu’il avait aux reins et sur la chaussure qu’il avait aux pieds.
6 Doe therefore according to thy wisdome, and let thou not his hoare head go downe to the graue in peace. (Sheol h7585)
Tu agiras selon ta sagesse, et tu ne laisseras pas ses cheveux blancs descendre en paix dans le séjour des morts. (Sheol h7585)
7 But shew kindnes vnto the sonnes of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be among them that eate at thy table: for so they came to me when I fled from Absalom thy brother.
Tu traiteras avec bienveillance les fils de Barzillaï, le Galaadite, et ils seront de ceux qui se nourrissent de ta table; car ils ont agi de la même manière à mon égard, en venant au-devant de moi lorsque je fuyais Absalom, ton frère.
8 And beholde, with thee is Shimei the sonne of Gera, the sonne of Iemini, of Bahurim, which cursed mee with an horrible curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim: but hee came downe to meete me at Iorden, and I sware to him by the Lord, saying, I will not slay thee with the sword.
Voici, tu as près de toi Schimeï, fils de Guéra, Benjamite, de Bachurim. Il a prononcé contre moi des malédictions violentes le jour où j’allais à Mahanaïm. Mais il descendit à ma rencontre vers le Jourdain, et je lui jurai par l’Éternel, en disant: Je ne te ferai point mourir par l’épée.
9 But thou shalt not count him innocent: for thou art a wise man, and knowest what thou oughtest to doe vnto him: therefore thou shalt cause his hoare head to goe downe to the graue with blood. (Sheol h7585)
Maintenant, tu ne le laisseras pas impuni; car tu es un homme sage, et tu sais comment tu dois le traiter. Tu feras descendre ensanglantés ses cheveux blancs dans le séjour des morts. (Sheol h7585)
10 So Dauid slept with his fathers, and was buried in the citie of Dauid.
David se coucha avec ses pères, et il fut enterré dans la ville de David.
11 And the dayes which Dauid reigned vpon Israel, were fourtie yeeres: seuen yeeres reigned he in Hebron, and thirtie and three yeeres reigned he in Ierusalem.
Le temps que David régna sur Israël fut de quarante ans: à Hébron il régna sept ans, et à Jérusalem il régna trente-trois ans.
12 Then sate Salomon vpon the throne of Dauid his father, and his kingdome was stablished mightily.
Salomon s’assit sur le trône de David, son père, et son règne fut très affermi.
13 And Adonijah the sonne of Haggith came to Bath-sheba the mother of Salomon: and she saide, Commest thou peaceably? And hee said, Yea.
Adonija, fils de Haggith, alla vers Bath-Schéba, mère de Salomon. Elle lui dit: Viens-tu dans des intentions paisibles? Il répondit: Oui.
14 He said moreouer, I haue a sute vnto thee. And she sayd, Say on.
Et il ajouta: J’ai un mot à te dire. Elle dit: Parle!
15 Then he said, Thou knowest that the kingdome was mine, and that all Israel set their faces on me, that I should reigne: howbeit the kingdome is turned away, and is my brothers: for it came to him by the Lord.
Et il dit: Tu sais que la royauté m’appartenait, et que tout Israël portait ses regards sur moi pour me faire régner. Mais la royauté a tourné, et elle est échue à mon frère, parce que l’Éternel la lui a donnée.
16 Nowe therefore I aske thee one request, refuse me not. And she said vnto him, Say on.
Maintenant, je te demande une chose: ne me la refuse pas! Elle lui répondit: Parle!
17 And he sayd, Speake, I pray thee, vnto Salomon ye King, (for he will not say thee nay) that he giue me Abishag the Shunammite to wife.
Et il dit: Dis, je te prie, au roi Salomon – car il ne te le refusera pas – qu’il me donne pour femme Abischag, la Sunamite.
18 And Bath-sheba sayd, Well, I will speake for thee vnto the King.
Bath-Schéba dit: Bien! Je parlerai pour toi au roi.
19 Bath-sheba therefore went vnto King Salomon, to speake vnto him for Adonijah: and the King rose to meete her, and bowed himselfe vnto her, and sate downe on his throne: and he caused a seate to be set for the Kings mother, and she sate at his right hand.
Bath-Schéba se rendit auprès du roi Salomon, pour lui parler en faveur d’Adonija. Le roi se leva pour aller à sa rencontre, il se prosterna devant elle, et il s’assit sur son trône. On plaça un siège pour la mère du roi, et elle s’assit à sa droite.
20 Then she sayd, I desire a small request of thee, say me not nay. Then the King sayde vnto her, Aske on, my mother: for I will not say thee nay.
Puis elle dit: J’ai une petite demande à te faire: ne me la refuse pas! Et le roi lui dit: Demande, ma mère, car je ne te refuserai pas.
21 She sayd then, Let Abishag the Shunammite be giuen to Adonijah thy brother to wife.
Elle dit: Qu’Abischag, la Sunamite, soit donnée pour femme à Adonija, ton frère.
22 But King Salomon answered and sayd vnto his mother, And why doest thou aske Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? aske for him the kingdome also: for he is mine elder brother, and hath for him both Abiathar the Priest, and Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah.
Le roi Salomon répondit à sa mère: Pourquoi demandes-tu Abischag, la Sunamite, pour Adonija? Demande donc la royauté pour lui, car il est mon frère aîné, pour lui, pour le sacrificateur Abiathar, et pour Joab, fils de Tseruja!
23 Then King Salomon sware by the Lord, saying, God doe so to me and more also, if Adoniiah hath not spoken this worde against his owne life.
Alors le roi Salomon jura par l’Éternel, en disant: Que Dieu me traite dans toute sa rigueur, si ce n’est pas au prix de sa vie qu’Adonija a prononcé cette parole!
24 Now therefore as ye Lord liueth, who hath established me, and set me on the throne of Dauid my father, who also hath made me an house, as he promised, Adoniiah shall surely die this day.
Maintenant, l’Éternel est vivant, lui qui m’a affermi et m’a fait asseoir sur le trône de David, mon père, et qui m’a fait une maison selon sa promesse! Aujourd’hui Adonija mourra.
25 And King Salomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and hee smote him that he dyed.
Et le roi Salomon envoya Benaja, fils de Jehojada, qui le frappa; et Adonija mourut.
26 Then the King sayd vnto Abiathar the Priest, Go to Anathoth vnto thine owne fieldes: for thou art worthy of death: but I will not this day kill thee, because thou barest the Arke of the Lord God before Dauid my father, and because thou hast suffered in all, wherein my father hath bene afflicted.
Le roi dit ensuite au sacrificateur Abiathar: Va-t’en à Anathoth dans tes terres, car tu mérites la mort; mais je ne te ferai pas mourir aujourd’hui, parce que tu as porté l’arche du Seigneur l’Éternel devant David, mon père, et parce que tu as eu part à toutes les souffrances de mon père.
27 So Salomon cast out Abiathar from being Priest vnto the Lord, that he might fulfill the wordes of the Lord, which he spake against the house of Eli in Shiloh.
Ainsi Salomon dépouilla Abiathar de ses fonctions de sacrificateur de l’Éternel, afin d’accomplir la parole que l’Éternel avait prononcée sur la maison d’Éli à Silo.
28 Then tidings came to Ioab: (for Ioab had turned after Adoniiah, but he turned not after Absalom) and Ioab fled vnto the Tabernacle of the Lord, and caught hold on the hornes of the altar.
Le bruit en parvint à Joab, qui avait suivi le parti d’Adonija, quoiqu’il n’eût pas suivi le parti d’Absalom. Et Joab se réfugia vers la tente de l’Éternel, et saisit les cornes de l’autel.
29 And it was tolde king Salomon, that Ioab was fled vnto the Tabernacle of the Lord, and beholde, he is by the altar. Then Salomon sent Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, saying, Goe, fall vpon him.
On annonça au roi Salomon que Joab s’était réfugié vers la tente de l’Éternel, et qu’il était auprès de l’autel. Et Salomon envoya Benaja, fils de Jehojada, en lui disant: Va, frappe-le.
30 And Benaiah came to the Tabernacle of the Lord, and sayd vnto him, Thus sayth the King, Come out. And he sayde, Nay, but I will die here. Then Benaiah brought the King worde againe, saying, Thus sayd Ioab, and thus he answered me.
Benaja arriva à la tente de l’Éternel, et dit à Joab: Sors! C’est le roi qui l’ordonne. Mais il répondit: Non! Je veux mourir ici. Benaja rapporta la chose au roi, en disant: C’est ainsi qu’a parlé Joab, et c’est ainsi qu’il m’a répondu.
31 And the King sayde vnto him, Doe as he hath sayd, and smite him, and bury him, that thou mayest take away the blood, which Ioab shed causelesse, from me and from the house of my father.
Le roi dit à Benaja: Fais comme il a dit, frappe-le, et enterre-le; tu ôteras ainsi de dessus moi et de dessus la maison de mon père le sang que Joab a répandu sans cause.
32 And the Lord shall bring his blood vpon his owne head: for he smote two men more righteous and better then he, and slew them with the sword, and my father Dauid knew not: to wit, Abner the sonne of Ner, captaine of the hoste of Israel, and Amasa the sonne of Iether captaine of the hoste of Iudah.
L’Éternel fera retomber son sang sur sa tête, parce qu’il a frappé deux hommes plus justes et meilleurs que lui et les a tués par l’épée, sans que mon père David le sût: Abner, fils de Ner, chef de l’armée d’Israël, et Amasa, fils de Jéther, chef de l’armée de Juda.
33 Their blood shall therefore returne vpon the head of Ioab, and on the head of his seede for euer: but vpon Dauid, and vpon his seede, and vpon his house, and vpon his throne shall there be peace for euer from the Lord.
Leur sang retombera sur la tête de Joab et sur la tête de ses descendants à perpétuité; mais il y aura paix à toujours, de par l’Éternel, pour David, pour sa postérité, pour sa maison et pour son trône.
34 So Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada went vp, and smote him, and slewe him, and he was buryed in his owne house in the wildernesse.
Benaja, fils de Jehojada, monta, frappa Joab, et le fit mourir. Il fut enterré dans sa maison, au désert.
35 And the King put Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada in his roume ouer the hoste: and the King set Zadok the Priest in the roume of Abiathar.
Le roi mit à la tête de l’armée Benaja, fils de Jehojada, en remplacement de Joab, et il mit le sacrificateur Tsadok à la place d’Abiathar.
36 Afterwarde the King sent, and called Shimei, and sayde vnto him, Buylde thee an house in Ierusalem, and dwell there, and depart not thence any whither.
Le roi fit appeler Schimeï, et lui dit: Bâtis-toi une maison à Jérusalem; tu y demeureras, et tu n’en sortiras point pour aller de côté ou d’autre.
37 For that day that thou goest out, and passest ouer the riuer of Kidron, knowe assuredly, that thou shalt dye the death: thy blood shall be vpon thine owne head.
Sache bien que tu mourras le jour où tu sortiras et passeras le torrent de Cédron; ton sang sera sur ta tête.
38 And Shimei sayd vnto the King, The thing is good: as my lord the King hath sayd, so wil thy seruant doe. So Shimei dwelt in Ierusalem many dayes.
Schimeï répondit au roi: C’est bien! Ton serviteur fera ce que dit mon seigneur le roi. Et Schimeï demeura longtemps à Jérusalem.
39 And after three yeres two of the seruants of Shimei fled away vnto Achish sonne of Maachah King of Gath: and they tolde Shimei, saying, Behold, thy seruants be in Gath.
Au bout de trois ans, il arriva que deux serviteurs de Schimeï s’enfuirent chez Akisch, fils de Maaca, roi de Gath. On le rapporta à Schimeï, en disant: Voici, tes serviteurs sont à Gath.
40 And Shimei arose, and sadled his asse, and went to Gath to Achish, to seeke his seruantes: and Shimei went, and brought his seruants from Gath.
Schimeï se leva, sella son âne, et s’en alla à Gath chez Akisch pour chercher ses serviteurs. Schimeï donc s’en alla, et il ramena de Gath ses serviteurs.
41 And it was tolde Salomon, that Shimei had gone from Ierusalem to Gath, and was come againe.
On informa Salomon que Schimeï était allé de Jérusalem à Gath, et qu’il était de retour.
42 And the King sent and called Shimei, and sayde vnto him, Did I not make thee to sweare by the Lord, and protested vnto thee, saying, That day that thou goest out, and walkest any whither, knowe assuredly that thou shalt dye the death? And thou saydest vnto mee, The thing is good, that I haue heard.
Le roi fit appeler Schimeï, et lui dit: Ne t’avais-je pas fait jurer par l’Éternel, et ne t’avais-je pas fait cette déclaration formelle: Sache bien que tu mourras le jour où tu sortiras pour aller de côté ou d’autre? Et ne m’as-tu pas répondu: C’est bien! J’ai entendu?
43 Why then hast thou not kept the othe of the Lord, and the commandement wherewith I charged thee?
Pourquoi donc n’as-tu pas observé le serment de l’Éternel et l’ordre que je t’avais donné?
44 The King sayde also to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickednes whereunto thine heart is priuie, that thou diddest to Dauid my father: the Lord therefore shall bring thy wickednesse vpon thine owne head.
Et le roi dit à Schimeï: Tu sais au-dedans de ton cœur tout le mal que tu as fait à David, mon père; l’Éternel fait retomber ta méchanceté sur ta tête.
45 And let King Salomon be blessed, and the throne of Dauid stablished before the Lord for euer.
Mais le roi Salomon sera béni, et le trône de David sera pour toujours affermi devant l’Éternel.
46 So the King comanded Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada: who went out and smote him that he dyed. And the kingdome was established in the hand of Salomon.
Et le roi donna ses ordres à Benaja, fils de Jehojada, qui sortit et frappa Schimeï; et Schimeï mourut. La royauté fut ainsi affermie entre les mains de Salomon.
