1 Kings 12

1 And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for al Israel were come to Sheche, to make him king

Rehabeam begab sich nach Sichem; denn in Sichem hatten sich alle Israeliten eingefunden, um ihn zum König zu machen.

2 And whe Ieroboam ye sonne of Nebat heard of it (who was yet in Egypt, whither Ieroboam had fled from king Salomon, and dwelt in Egypt)

Sobald nun Jerobeam, der Sohn Nebats, Kunde davon erhielt – er befand sich nämlich noch in Ägypten, wohin er vor dem König Salomo geflohen war –, da kehrte Jerobeam aus Ägypten zurück;

3 Then they sent and called him: and Ieroboam and all the Congregation of Israel came, and spake vnto Rehoboam, saying,

sie hatten nämlich hingesandt und ihn rufen lassen. So kamen denn Jerobeam und die ganze Volksgemeinde Israels (nach Sichem) und trugen dem Rehabeam folgendes vor:

4 Thy father made our yoke grieuous: now therefore make thou the grieuous seruitude of thy father, and his sore yoke which he put vpon vs, lighter, and we will serue thee.

»Dein Vater hat uns ein hartes Joch auferlegt; so erleichtere du uns jetzt deines Vaters harten Dienst und das schwere Joch, das er uns aufgelegt hat, so wollen wir dir untertan sein.«

5 And he said vnto them, Depart yet for three dayes, then come againe to me. And the people departed.

Er antwortete ihnen: »Geduldet euch noch drei Tage, dann kommt wieder zu mir!« Nachdem sich nun das Volk entfernt hatte,

6 And King Rehoboam tooke counsell with the olde men that had stande before Salomon his father, while he yet liued, and sayde, What counsell giue ye, that I may make an answere to this people?

beriet sich der König Rehabeam mit den alten Räten, die seinem Vater Salomo während dessen Lebzeiten gedient hatten, und fragte sie: »Welche Antwort ratet ihr mir diesen Leuten zu erteilen?«

7 And they spake vnto him, saying, If thou be a seruant vnto this people this day, and serue them, and answere them, and speake kinde wordes to them, they will be thy seruants for euer.

Sie gaben ihm folgende Antwort: »Wenn du heute diesen Leuten zu Willen bist, dich nachgiebig zeigst und auf sie hörst und ihnen eine freundliche Antwort gibst, so werden sie dir stets gehorsame Untertanen sein.«

8 But he forsooke the counsell that the olde men had giuen him, and asked counsell of the yong men that had bene brought vp with him, and waited on him.

Aber er ließ den Rat, den ihm die Alten gegeben hatten, unbeachtet und beriet sich mit den jungen Männern, die mit ihm aufgewachsen waren und jetzt in seinen Diensten standen.

9 And he said vnto them, What counsell giue ye, that we may answere this people, which haue spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke, which thy father did put vpon vs, lighter?

Er fragte sie: »Welche Antwort müssen wir nach eurer Ansicht diesen Leuten geben, die von mir eine Erleichterung des Joches verlangen, das mein Vater ihnen aufgelegt hat?«

10 Then the yong men that were brought vp with him, spake vnto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say vnto this people, that haue spoken vnto thee, and said, Thy father hath made our yoke heauie, but make thou it lighter vnto vs: euen thus shalt thou say vnto them, My least part shalbe bigger then my fathers loynes.

Da gaben ihm die jungen Männer, die mit ihm aufgewachsen waren, folgende Antwort: »So mußt du diesen Leuten antworten, die von dir eine Erleichterung des schweren Joches verlangen, das dein Vater ihnen aufgelegt hat – so mußt du ihnen antworten: ›Mein kleiner Finger ist dicker als meines Vaters Lenden.

11 Now where as my father did burden you with a grieuous yoke, I will yet make your yoke heauier: my father hath chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.

Und nun: hat mein Vater euch ein schweres Joch aufgeladen, so will ich euer Joch noch schwerer machen; hat mein Vater euch mit Peitschen gezüchtigt, so will ich euch mit Skorpionen züchtigen.‹«

12 Then Ieroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me againe ye thirde day.

Als nun Jerobeam mit dem ganzen Volk am dritten Tage zu Rehabeam kam, wie der König ihnen befohlen hatte mit den Worten: »Kommt am dritten Tage wieder zu mir!«,

13 And the king answered the people sharpely, and left the old mens counsell that they gaue him,

gab der König dem Volke eine harte Antwort und ließ den Rat außer acht, den die Alten ihm gegeben hatten;

14 And spake to them after the counsell of the yong men, saying, My father made your yoke grieuous, and I will make your yoke more grieuous: my father hath chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.

er gab ihnen vielmehr nach dem Rat der jungen Männer folgende Antwort: »Hat mein Vater euch ein schweres Joch aufgelegt, so will ich euer Joch noch schwerer machen; hat mein Vater euch mit Peitschen gezüchtigt, so will ich euch mit Skorpionen züchtigen.«

15 And the King hearkened not vnto the people: for it was the ordinance of the Lord, that he might perfourme his saying, which the Lord had spoken by Ahiiah the Shilonite vnto Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat.

So schenkte also der König dem Volke kein Gehör; denn vom HERRN war es so gefügt worden, damit er seine Verheißung in Erfüllung gehen ließe, die der HERR durch den Mund Ahias von Silo dem Jerobeam, dem Sohne Nebats, gegeben hatte.

16 So when all Israel sawe that the King regarded them not, the people answered the King thus, saying, What portion haue we in Dauid? we haue none inheritance in the sonne of Ishai. To your tents, O Israel: nowe see to thine owne house, Dauid. So Israel departed vnto their tents.

Als nun ganz Israel sah, daß der König ihnen kein Gehör schenkte, ließ das Volk dem König folgende Erklärung zugehen: »Was haben wir mit David zu schaffen? Wir haben nichts gemein mit dem Sohne Isais. Auf, ihr Israeliten, zu euren Zelten! Nun sorge (selbst) für dein Haus, David!« So begaben sich denn die Israeliten in ihre Heimat,

17 Howbeit ouer the children of Israel, which dwelt in the cities of Iudah, did Rehoboam reigne still.

so daß Rehabeam nur über die Israeliten, die in den Ortschaften Judas wohnten, König blieb.

18 Nowe the King Rehoboam sent Adoram the receiuer of the tribute, and all Israel stoned him to death: then King Rehoboam made speede to get him vp to his charet, to flee to Ierusalem.

Als dann der König Rehabeam Adoram, den Oberaufseher über die Fronarbeiten, hinsandte, warf ihn ganz Israel mit Steinen zu Tode. Da hatte der König nichts Eiligeres zu tun, als seinen Wagen zu besteigen, um (aus Sichem) nach Jerusalem zu fliehen.

19 And Israel rebelled against the house of Dauid vnto this day.

So fiel Israel vom Hause Davids ab bis auf den heutigen Tag.

20 And when all Israel had heard that Ieroboam was come againe, they sent and called him vnto the assemblie, and made him King ouer all Israel: none followed the house of Dauid, but the tribe of Iudah onely.

Als nun ganz Israel vernahm, daß Jerobeam zurückgekehrt sei, ließen sie ihn in die Gemeindeversammlung holen und machten ihn zum König über ganz Israel; dem Hause Davids blieb nur der eine Stamm Juda treu.

21 And when Rehoboam was come to Ierusalem, he gathered all the house of Iudah with the tribe of Beniamin an hundreth and foure score thousand of chosen men (which were good warriours) to fight against the house of Israel, and to bring the kingdome againe to Rehoboam the sonne of Salomon.

Als nun Rehabeam in Jerusalem angekommen war, bot er das ganze Haus Juda und den Stamm Benjamin, 180000 auserlesene Krieger, zum Kampf gegen das Haus Israel auf, um das Königtum für Rehabeam, den Sohn Salomos, wiederzugewinnen.

22 But the worde of God came vnto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

Aber das Wort Gottes erging an den Gottesmann Semaja also:

23 Speake vnto Rehoboam the sonne of Salomon King of Iudah, and vnto all the house of Iudah and Beniamin, and the remnant of the people, saying,

»Sage zu Rehabeam, dem Sohne Salomos, dem König von Juda, und zum ganzen Hause Juda und Benjamin und zu dem übrigen Volk:

24 Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go vp, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: returne euery man to his house: for this thing is done by me. They obeyed therefore the worde of the Lord and returned, and departed, according to the worde of the Lord.

So hat der HERR gesprochen: ›Ihr sollt nicht hinziehen, um mit euren Brüdern, den Israeliten, Krieg zu führen: kehrt allesamt nach Hause zurück! Denn von mir ist dieses alles so gefügt worden.‹« Da gehorchten sie dem Befehl des HERRN und machten sich auf den Heimweg, wie der HERR es geboten hatte.

25 Then Ieroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein, and went from thence, and built Penuel.

Jerobeam aber befestigte Sichem im Gebirge Ephraim und machte es zu seiner Residenz; darauf zog er von dort aus und befestigte Pnuel.

26 And Ieroboam thought in his heart, Nowe shall the kingdome returne to the house of Dauid.

Er dachte aber bei sich: »Das Königtum wird nun wohl an das Haus Davids zurückfallen.

27 If this people goe vp and doe sacrifice in the house of the Lord at Ierusalem, then shall the heart of this people turne againe vnto their lorde, euen to Rehoboam King of Iudah: so shall they kill me and goe againe to Rehoboam King of Iudah.

Wenn nämlich das Volk hier hinaufziehen muß, um im Tempel des HERRN zu Jerusalem Opfer darzubringen, so wird das Herz des Volkes hier sich wieder dem König Rehabeam von Juda als ihrem Herrn zuwenden; sie werden mich dann umbringen und dem König Rehabeam von Juda wieder zufallen.«

28 Whereupon the King tooke counsell, and made two calues of golde, and saide vnto them, It is too much for you to goe vp to Ierusalem: beholde, O Israel, thy gods, which brought thee vp out of the lande of Egypt.

Als der König dann mit sich zu Rate gegangen war, ließ er zwei goldene Stierbilder anfertigen und sagte zum Volk: »Ihr seid nun lange genug nach Jerusalem hinaufgezogen. Seht, dies hier ist euer Gott, Israeliten, der euch aus Ägypten hergeführt hat!«

29 And he set the one in Beth-el, and the other set he in Dan.

Das eine Stierbild stellte er dann in Bethel auf, das andere ließ er nach Dan bringen.

30 And this thing turned to sinne: for the people went (because of the one) euen to Dan.

Dies wurde aber eine Veranlassung zur Sünde; und das Volk ging zu dem einen hin (nach Bethel und zu dem andern) nach Dan.

31 Also he made an house of hie places, and made Priestes of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sonnes of Leui.

Er richtete auch Opferstätten auf den Höhen ein und bestellte zu Priestern beliebige Leute aus dem Volk, die nicht zu den Leviten gehörten.

32 And Ieroboam made a feast the fifteenth day of the eight moneth, like vnto the feast that is in Iudah, and offred on the altar. So did he in Beth-el and offered vnto the calues that he had made: and he placed in Beth-el the Priestes of the hie places, which he had made.

Ferner ordnete Jerobeam ein Fest an am fünfzehnten Tage des achten Monats, das dem Laubhüttenfest in Juda entsprach, und opferte selbst auf dem Altar. Ebenso machte er es zu Bethel, um den Stierbildern zu opfern, die er hatte anfertigen lassen, und er ließ in Bethel die Priester der Höhentempel, die er eingerichtet hatte, den heiligen Dienst verrichten.

33 And he offered vpon the altar, which he had made in Beth-el, the fifteenth day of the eight moneth, (euen in the moneth which he had forged of his owne heart) and made a solemne feast vnto the children of Israel: and he went vp to the altar, to burne incense.

Als er nun zu dem Altar hinaufgestiegen war, den er in Bethel errichtet hatte, am fünfzehnten Tage des achten Monats, in demselben Monat, den er willkürlich zu einem Festtag der Israeliten bestimmt hatte, – als er also zu dem Altar hinaufgestiegen war, um zu opfern,
