1 Kings 12

1 And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for al Israel were come to Sheche, to make him king

Rechabeam ging nun nach Sichem. Denn ganz Israel war nach Sichem gegangen, ihn zum König zu machen.

2 And whe Ieroboam ye sonne of Nebat heard of it (who was yet in Egypt, whither Ieroboam had fled from king Salomon, and dwelt in Egypt)

Davon hörte Nebats Sohn Jeroboam. Er war noch in Ägypten, wohin er vor dem König Salomo geflohen war. Jeroboam saß also in Ägypten.

3 Then they sent and called him: and Ieroboam and all the Congregation of Israel came, and spake vnto Rehoboam, saying,

Nun sandte man hin und ließ ihn rufen. So kam Jeroboam und die ganze Gemeinde Israels. Sie sprachen zu Rechabeam also:

4 Thy father made our yoke grieuous: now therefore make thou the grieuous seruitude of thy father, and his sore yoke which he put vpon vs, lighter, and we will serue thee.

"Dein Vater hat uns ein hartes Joch auferlegt. Erleichtere uns deines Vaters harten Dienst und sein schweres Joch, das er uns auferlegt, und wir wollen dir dienen!"

5 And he said vnto them, Depart yet for three dayes, then come againe to me. And the people departed.

Er aber sprach zu ihnen: "Geht und kommt in drei Tagen wieder zu mir!" Und das Volk ging weg.

6 And King Rehoboam tooke counsell with the olde men that had stande before Salomon his father, while he yet liued, and sayde, What counsell giue ye, that I may make an answere to this people?

Da beriet sich König Rechabeam mit den Ältesten, die vor seinem Vater Salomo zu seinen Lebzeiten gestanden, und sprach: "Wie ratet ihr, dies Volk zu bescheiden?"

7 And they spake vnto him, saying, If thou be a seruant vnto this people this day, and serue them, and answere them, and speake kinde wordes to them, they will be thy seruants for euer.

Sie sprachen zu ihm: "Bist du heute diesem Volke dienstwillig, fügst dich ihnen und gibst ihnen freundlichen Bescheid, so werden sie dir allzeit Diener sein."

8 But he forsooke the counsell that the olde men had giuen him, and asked counsell of the yong men that had bene brought vp with him, and waited on him.

Er aber kehrte sich nicht an den Rat der Alten, die ihn beraten hatten, sondern beriet sich mit den Jungen, die mit ihm aufgewachsen waren und vor ihm standen.

9 And he said vnto them, What counsell giue ye, that we may answere this people, which haue spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke, which thy father did put vpon vs, lighter?

Er sprach zu ihnen: "Wie ratet ihr, dies Volk zu bescheiden, das zu mir gesprochen: 'Mach leichter das Joch, das uns dein Vater aufgelegt hat!'"

10 Then the yong men that were brought vp with him, spake vnto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say vnto this people, that haue spoken vnto thee, and said, Thy father hath made our yoke heauie, but make thou it lighter vnto vs: euen thus shalt thou say vnto them, My least part shalbe bigger then my fathers loynes.

Da sprachen zu ihm die Jungen, die mit ihm aufgewachsen waren: "Also sprich zu diesem Volke, das zu dir gesprochen: 'Dein Vater hat uns ein schweres Joch auferlegt; mach du nun unser Joch leichter!' So sprich zu ihnen: 'Mein kleiner Finger ist stärker als meines Vaters Lenden.

11 Now where as my father did burden you with a grieuous yoke, I will yet make your yoke heauier: my father hath chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.

Nun denn! Mein Vater hat euch ein schweres Joch auferlegt. Ich aber will euer Joch noch härter machen. Mein Vater hat euch mit Peitschen gezüchtigt. So will ich euch mit Skorpionen züchtigen.'"

12 Then Ieroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me againe ye thirde day.

Am dritten Tage kam nun das ganze Volk zu Rechabeam, wie der König gesagt hatte: "Kommt am dritten Tage wieder zu mir!"

13 And the king answered the people sharpely, and left the old mens counsell that they gaue him,

Da fuhr der König das Volk hart an; denn er hielt sich nicht an den Rat der Alten, die ihn beraten hatten.

14 And spake to them after the counsell of the yong men, saying, My father made your yoke grieuous, and I will make your yoke more grieuous: my father hath chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.

Er sprach nach der Jungen Rat zu ihnen: "Mein Vater hat euch ein schweres Joch auferlegt. Ich aber mache euer Joch noch schwerer. Mein Vater züchtigte euch mit Peitschen. Ich aber züchtige euch mit Skorpionen."

15 And the King hearkened not vnto the people: for it was the ordinance of the Lord, that he might perfourme his saying, which the Lord had spoken by Ahiiah the Shilonite vnto Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat.

Also gab der König dem Volk keine Gehör. Denn so war es vom Herrn verhängt worden, damit er sein Wort bestätigte, das der Herr durch den Siloniten Achia zu Nebats Sohn Jeroboam gesprochen hatte.

16 So when all Israel sawe that the King regarded them not, the people answered the King thus, saying, What portion haue we in Dauid? we haue none inheritance in the sonne of Ishai. To your tents, O Israel: nowe see to thine owne house, Dauid. So Israel departed vnto their tents.

So sah ganz Israel, daß der König ihnen kein Gehör schenkte. Da gab das Volk dem König diesen Bescheid. "Was haben wir gemein mit David? Wir nehmen keinen Anteil mehr am Isaisohne. Zu deinen Zelten, Israel! Nun schau nach deinem Hause, David!" So ging Israel zu seinen Zelten.

17 Howbeit ouer the children of Israel, which dwelt in the cities of Iudah, did Rehoboam reigne still.

So blieb Rechabeam nur noch König über die Israeliten, die in Judas Städten wohnten.

18 Nowe the King Rehoboam sent Adoram the receiuer of the tribute, and all Israel stoned him to death: then King Rehoboam made speede to get him vp to his charet, to flee to Ierusalem.

Da sandte der König Rechabeam den Fronmeister Adoniram hin. Aber ganz Israel steinigte ihn zu Tode. Der König Rechabeam selbst hatte noch rasch auf seinen Wagen springen und nach Jerusalem fliehen können.

19 And Israel rebelled against the house of Dauid vnto this day.

So fiel Israel vom Davidshause ab bis auf diesen Tag.

20 And when all Israel had heard that Ieroboam was come againe, they sent and called him vnto the assemblie, and made him King ouer all Israel: none followed the house of Dauid, but the tribe of Iudah onely.

Als aber ganz Israel hörte, daß Jeroboam zurückgekehrt sei, sandten sie hin und ließen ihn zur Versammlung rufen. Da machten sie ihn zum König über ganz Israel. Niemand hielt mehr zu Davids Haus als allein der Stamm Juda.

21 And when Rehoboam was come to Ierusalem, he gathered all the house of Iudah with the tribe of Beniamin an hundreth and foure score thousand of chosen men (which were good warriours) to fight against the house of Israel, and to bring the kingdome againe to Rehoboam the sonne of Salomon.

Rechabeam kam nun nach Jerusalem. Da sammelte er das ganze Haus Juda und den Stamm Benjamin. 180.000 erlesene Krieger, zum Kampfe gegen das Haus Israel, um das Königtum für Salomos Sohn Rechabeam zurückzugewinnen.

22 But the worde of God came vnto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

Da erging Gottes Wort an den Gottesmann Semaja:

23 Speake vnto Rehoboam the sonne of Salomon King of Iudah, and vnto all the house of Iudah and Beniamin, and the remnant of the people, saying,

"Sprich zu dem Sohne Salomos Rechabeam, dem König von Juda, und zu dem ganzen Hause Juda und zu Benjamin und zu dem übrigen Volke so:

24 Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go vp, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: returne euery man to his house: for this thing is done by me. They obeyed therefore the worde of the Lord and returned, and departed, according to the worde of the Lord.

'So spricht der Herr: Zieht nicht hinauf und kämpft nicht gegen eure israelitischen Brüder! Kehrt alle heim! Durch mich ist es so gefügt.'" Sie hörten auf das Wort des Herrn und kehrten heim nach des Herrn Wort.

25 Then Ieroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein, and went from thence, and built Penuel.

Jeroboam baute nun Sichem auf dem Gebirge Ephraim aus und wohnte darin. Dann zog er von dort fort und baute Penuel aus.

26 And Ieroboam thought in his heart, Nowe shall the kingdome returne to the house of Dauid.

Jeroboam aber dachte bei sich: "Jetzt kann die Herrschaft wieder an Davids Haus zurückfallen.

27 If this people goe vp and doe sacrifice in the house of the Lord at Ierusalem, then shall the heart of this people turne againe vnto their lorde, euen to Rehoboam King of Iudah: so shall they kill me and goe againe to Rehoboam King of Iudah.

Zieht dieses Volk hinauf, Schlachtopfer im Haus des Herrn zu Jerusalem darzubringen, dann fällt das Herz dieses Volkes wieder ihrem Herrn zu, Rechabeam, dem König von Juda. Dann bringen sie mich um und kehren wieder zum König von Juda Rechabeam zurück.

28 Whereupon the King tooke counsell, and made two calues of golde, and saide vnto them, It is too much for you to goe vp to Ierusalem: beholde, O Israel, thy gods, which brought thee vp out of the lande of Egypt.

Da beriet sich der König. Dann machte er zwei goldene Kälber und sprach zu jenen: "Lange genug seid ihr nach Jerusalem hinaufgezogen. Hier, Israel, ist dein Gott, der dich aus Ägypterland geführt hat."

29 And he set the one in Beth-el, and the other set he in Dan.

Das eine stellte er zu Betel auf. Das andere tat er nach Dan.

30 And this thing turned to sinne: for the people went (because of the one) euen to Dan.

Dies ward Anlaß zur Sünde. Das Volk zog vor das eine bis nach Dan.

31 Also he made an house of hie places, and made Priestes of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sonnes of Leui.

Auch machte er ein Höhenhaus und bestellte aus des Volkes Vornehmen Priester, die nicht zu den Levisöhnen gehörten.

32 And Ieroboam made a feast the fifteenth day of the eight moneth, like vnto the feast that is in Iudah, and offred on the altar. So did he in Beth-el and offered vnto the calues that he had made: and he placed in Beth-el the Priestes of the hie places, which he had made.

Auch stiftete Jeroboam am fünfzehnten Tage des achten Monats ein Fest wie das in Juda. Er selbst stieg zum Altar hinauf. Ebenso stiftete er ein solches zu Betel, um den Kälbern zu opfern, die er gemacht hatte. Zu Betel stellte er auch die Priester für die Höhen an, die er gemacht hatte.

33 And he offered vpon the altar, which he had made in Beth-el, the fifteenth day of the eight moneth, (euen in the moneth which he had forged of his owne heart) and made a solemne feast vnto the children of Israel: and he went vp to the altar, to burne incense.

Er stieg nun zu dem Altar hinauf, den er in Betel gemacht hatte, am fünfzehnten Tage des achten Monats, in dem Monat, den er sich selbst allein erdacht hatte. Und er stiftete für die Israeliten ein Fest. Eben stieg er zum Altar, um zu räuchern.
