1 Corinthians 9
1 Am I not an Apostle? am I not free? haue I not seene Iesus Christ our Lord? are ye not my worke in the Lord?
Ne suis-je pas libre? ne suis pas apôtre? n'ai-je pas vu Jésus notre Seigneur? N'êtes-vous pas mon oeuvre dans le Seigneur?
2 If I be not an Apostle vnto other, yet doutlesse I am vnto you: for ye are the seale of mine Apostleship in the Lord.
Si pour d'autres je ne suis pas apôtre, au moins le suis-je pour vous. Car le sceau de mon apostolat c'est vous qui l'êtes dans le Seigneur,
3 My defence to them that examine mee, is this,
et mon apologie auprès de ceux qui me mettent en cause, la voilà.
4 Haue we not power to eat and to drinke?
N'aurions-nous pas le droit de manger et boire à vos frais?
5 Or haue we not power to lead about a wife being a sister, as well as the rest of the Apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?
N'aurions-nous pas le droit de mener partout avec nous une femme soeur comme les autres apôtres, comme les frères du Seigneur, comme Képhas?
6 Or I only and Barnabas, haue not we power not to worke?
Barnabas et moi, sommes-nous seuls à ne pas avoir le droit de nous dispenser de travailler?
7 Who goeth a warfare any time at his owne coste? who planteth a vineyarde, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flocke, and eateth not of the milke of the flocke?
Qui a jamais fait son service militaire à ses propres frais? Plante-t-on une vigne pour n'en pas manger le fruit? Fait-on paître un troupeau sans se nourrir de son lait?
8 Say I these thinges according to man? saith not the Lawe the same also?
Est-ce que je ne vous indique là que les usages du monde? La Loi même ne dit-elle pas la même chose?
9 For it is written in the Lawe of Moses, Thou shalt not mussell the mouth of the oxe that treadeth out the corne: doeth God take care for oxen?
Dans la Loi de Moïse il est écrit: «Tu ne muselleras pas le boeuf qui foule le blé.» Est-ce que Dieu s'occupe des boeufs?
10 Either saith hee it not altogether for our sakes? For our sakes no doubt it is written, that he which eareth, should eare in hope, and that he that thresheth in hope, should be partaker of his hope.
Ne dit-il pas cela exclusivement pour nous? Oui, c'est pour nous que cette parole a été écrite. Elle signifie que celui qui laboure la terre et celui qui bat le blé doivent le faire avec l'espérance d'en avoir leur part.
11 If wee haue sowen vnto you spirituall thinges, is it a great thing if we reape your carnall thinges?
Nous avons semé chez vous la semence spirituelle, serait-ce il beaucoup de cueillir quelque chose de votre temporel?
12 If others with you bee partakers of this power, are not we rather? neuerthelesse, we haue not vsed this power: but suffer all things, that we should not hinder the Gospel of Christ.
Si d'autres se sont donné ce droit sur vous, ne l'aurions-nous pas à plus forte raison? Eh bien, nous n'avons pas usé de ce droit; au contraire, nous supportons tout pour ne créer aucun obstacle à l'Évangile du Christ!
13 Doe ye not knowe, that they which minister about the holy things, eate of the things of the Temple? and they which waite at the altar, are partakers with the altar?
Ignorez-vous que ceux qui font le service sacré sont nourris par le Temple? que ceux qui sont occupés à l'autel sont les commensaux de l'autel?
14 So also hath the Lord ordeined, that they which preach ye Gospel, should liue of the Gospel.
De même le Seigneur a ordonné à ceux qui annoncent l'Évangile de vivre de l'Évangile.
15 But I haue vsed none of these things: neither wrote I these things, that it should be so done vnto me: for it were better for me to die, then that any man should make my reioycing vaine.
Eh bien, moi, je n'ai usé d'aucun de ces droits. Je n'écris pas cela pour que vous m'en fassiez jouir désormais, car j'aimerais mieux mourir que de me laisser enlever ce sujet de gloire.
16 For though I preach the Gospel, I haue nothing to reioyce of: for necessitie is laid vpon me, and woe is vnto me, if I preach not the Gospel.
En effet, ce n'est pas prêcher l'Évangile qui est mon sujet de gloire. C'est une obligation qui m'est imposée et malheur à moi si je ne prêche pas l'Évangile!
17 For if I do it willingly, I haue a reward, but if I do it against my will, notwithstanding the dispensation is committed vnto me.
Ah! si je le prêchais de mon propre mouvement, j'aurais un mérite, mais si je le prêche par ordre, c'est un ministère qui m'est confié.
18 What is my reward then? verely that when I preach the Gospel, I make the Gospel of Christ free, that I abuse not mine authoritie in ye Gospel.
Quel est alors mon mérite? c'est qu'en évangélisant je prêche l'Évangile gratis, de sorte que je n'use pas des droits que j'ai au nom de l'Évangile.
19 For though I bee free from all men, yet haue I made my selfe seruant vnto all men, that I might winne the moe.
Étant libre de tous, je me suis fait esclave de tous, pour en gagner un plus grand nombre.
20 And vnto the Iewes, I become as a Iewe, that I may winne the Iewes: to them that are vnder the Lawe, as though I were vnder the Lawe, that I may winne them that are vnder the Lawe:
Je me suis fait Juif pour les Juifs, afin de gagner les Juifs; à ceux qui sont sous l'autorité de la Loi, je me suis présenté comme étant sous l'autorité de la Loi (quoique je ne fusse pas sous cette autorité), afin de gagner ceux qui sont, sous l'autorité de la Loi.
21 To them that are without Lawe, as though I were without Lawe, (when I am not without Lawe as pertaining to God, but am in the Lawe through Christ) that I may winne them that are without Lawe:
Avec ceux qui ne sont pas sous l'autorité de la Loi, j'ai été sans Loi (quoique je ne fusse pas hors de la vraie Loi de Dieu, étant dans la Loi de Christ), afin de gagner ceux qui ne sont pas sous l'autorité de la Loi.
22 To the weake I become as weake, that I may winne the weake: I am made all thinges to all men, that I might by all meanes saue some.
Pour les faibles, j'ai été faible afin de gagner les faibles. J'ai été tout à tous pour en sauver un certain nombre de toutes les manières.
23 And this I doe for the Gospels sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
Et tout cela je le fais à cause de l'Évangile, afin d'en avoir ma part.
24 Knowe ye not, that they which runne in a race, runne all, yet one receiueth the price? so runne that ye may obtaine.
Ne savez-vous pas que dans les courses du stade tous courent, mais qu'un seul remporte le prix? Courez de manière à le remporter.
25 And euery man that proueth masteries, abstaineth from all things: and they do it to obtaine a corruptible crowne: but we for an vncorruptible.
Ceux qui doivent concourir aux jeux s'imposent de rigoureuses abstinences; et c'est pour recevoir une couronne périssable; nous, faisons de même pour une couronne impérissable.
26 I therefore so runne, not as vncertainely: so fight I, not as one that beateth the ayre.
Pour moi, voici comment je cours: je ne vais pas à l'aventure; voici comment je me bats: je ne frappe pas dans le vide;
27 But I beate downe my body, and bring it into subiection, lest by any meanes after that I haue preached to other, I my selfe should be reproued.
mais je meurtris mon corps et je le rends esclave, de peur qu'après avoir fait le héraut pour les autres je ne sorte de la lice rejeté.
