1 Corinthians 7
1 Nowe concerning the thinges whereof ye wrote vnto mee, It were good for a man not to touche a woman.
Quant aux points sur lesquels vous m’avez écrit, je vous dirai qu’ il est bon pour l’homme de ne pas toucher de femme.
2 Neuertheles, to auoide fornication, let euery man haue his wife, and let euery woman haue her owne husband.
Toutefois, pour éviter toute impudicité, que chacun ait sa femme, et que chaque femme ait son mari.
3 Let the husband giue vnto the wife due beneuolence, and likewise also the wife vnto the husband.
Que le mari rende à sa femme ce qu’il lui doit, et que la femme agisse de même envers son mari.
4 The wife hath not the power of her owne bodie, but ye husband: and likewise also the husband hath not ye power of his own body, but the wife.
La femme n’a pas puissance sur son propre corps, mais le mari; pareillement le mari n’a pas puissance sur son propre corps, mais la femme.
5 Defraude not one another, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may giue your selues to fasting and praier, and againe come together that Satan tempt you not for your incontinecie.
Ne vous soustrayez pas l’un à l’autre, si ce n’est d’un commun accord, pour un temps, afin de vaquer à la prière; puis remettez-vous ensemble, de peur que Satan ne vous tente par suite de votre incontinence.
6 But I speake this by permission, not by commandement.
Je dis cela par condescendance, je n’en fais pas un ordre.
7 For I woulde that all men were euen as I my selfe am: but euery man hath his proper gift of God, one after this maner, and another after that.
Je voudrais, au contraire, que tous les hommes fussent comme moi; mais chacun reçoit de Dieu son don particulier, l’un d’une manière, l’autre d’une autre.
8 Therefore I say vnto the vnmaried, and vnto the widowes, It is good for them if they abide euen as I doe.
À ceux qui ne sont pas mariés et aux veuves, je dis qu’il leur est bon de rester comme moi-même.
9 But if they cannot abstaine, let them marrie: for it is better to marrie then to burne.
Mais s’ils ne peuvent se contenir, qu’ils se marient; car il vaut mieux se marier que de brûler.
10 And vnto ye maried I comand, not I, but ye Lord, Let not ye wife depart from her husband.
Quant aux personnes mariées, j’ordonne, non pas moi, mais le Seigneur, que la femme ne se sépare point de son mari; —
11 But and if shee depart, let her remaine vnmaried, or be reconciled vnto her husband, and let not the husband put away his wife.
si elle en est séparée, qu’elle reste sans se remarier ou qu’elle se réconcilie avec son mari; pareillement, que le mari ne répudie point sa femme.
12 But to ye remnant I speake, and not ye Lord, If any brother haue a wife, ye beleeueth not, if she be content to dwell with him, let him not forsake her.
Aux autres, je dis, moi, non le Seigneur: Si quelque frère a une femme qui n’a pas la foi, et qu’elle consente à habiter avec lui, qu’il ne la renvoie point;
13 And the woman which hath an husband that beleeueth not, if he be content to dwell with her, let her not forsake him.
et si une femme a un mari qui n’a pas la foi, et qu’il consente à habiter avec elle, qu’elle ne renvoie point son mari.
14 For the vnbeleeuing husband is sanctified to the wife, and the vnbeleeuing wife is sanctified to the husband, els were your children vncleane: but nowe are they holie.
Car le mari infidèle est sanctifié par la femme, et la femme infidèle est sanctifiée par le mari; autrement vos enfants seraient impurs, tandis que maintenant ils sont saints.
15 But if the vnbeleeuing depart, let him depart: a brother or a sister is not in subiection in such things: but God hath called vs in peace.
Si l’incrédule se sépare, qu’il se sépare; le frère ou la sœur ne sont pas asservis dans ces conditions. Dieu nous a appelés dans la paix.
16 For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt saue thine husband? Or what knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt saue thy wife?
Car que sais-tu, femme, si tu sauveras ton mari? Ou que sais-tu, mari, si tu sauveras ta femme?
17 But as God hath distributed to euery man, as the Lord hath called euery one, so let him walke: and so ordaine I, in all Churches.
Seulement, que chacun se conduise selon la position que le Seigneur lui a assignée, et selon que Dieu l’a appelé; c’est la règle que j’établis dans toutes les Églises.
18 Is any man called being circumcised? let him not gather his vncircumcision: is any called vncircumcised? let him not be circumcised.
Quelqu’un a-t-il été appelé étant circoncis, qu’il ne dissimule pas sa circoncision; quelqu’un a-t-il été appelé étant incirconcis, qu’il ne se fasse pas circoncire.
19 Circumcision is nothing, and vncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandements of God.
La circoncision n’est rien, l’incirconcision n’est rien; ce qui est tout, c’est l’observation des commandements de Dieu.
20 Let euery man abide in the same vocation wherein he was called.
Que chacun demeure dans l’état où il était lorsqu’il a été appelé.
21 Art thou called being a seruant? care not for it: but if yet thou maiest be free, vse it rather.
As-tu été appelé étant esclave, ne t’en mets point en peine; mais alors même que tu pourrais devenir libre, mets plutôt ton appel à profit.
22 For he that is called in the Lord, being. a seruant, is the Lords freeman: likewise also he that is called being free, is Christes seruant.
Car l’esclave qui a été appelé dans le Seigneur est un affranchi du Seigneur; de même, l’homme libre qui a été appelé est un esclave du Christ.
23 Yee are bought with a price: be not the seruants of men.
Vous avez été achetés un grand prix; ne vous rendez pas esclaves des hommes.
24 Brethren, let euery man, wherein hee was called, therein abide with God.
Que chacun, frères, demeure devant Dieu dans l’état où il était lorsqu’il a été appelé.
25 Nowe concerning virgines, I haue no commandement of the Lord: but I giue mine aduise, as one that hath obtained mercie of the Lord to be faithfull.
Pour ce qui est des vierges, je n’ai pas de commandement du Seigneur; mais je donne un conseil, comme ayant reçu du Seigneur la grâce d’être fidèle.
26 I suppose then this to bee good for the present necessitie: I meane that it is good for a man so to be.
Je pense donc à cause des difficultés présentes, qu’il est bon à un homme d’être ainsi. —
27 Art thou bounde vnto a wife? seeke not to be loosed: art thou loosed from a wife? seeke not a wife.
Es-tu lié à une femme, ne cherche pas à rompre ce lien; n’es-tu pas lié à une femme, ne cherche pas de femme.
28 But if thou takest a wife, thou sinnest not: and if a virgine marrie, shee sinneth not: neuerthelesse, such shall haue trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.
Si pourtant tu t’es marié, tu n’as pas péché; et si la vierge s’est mariée, elle n’a pas péché; mais ces personnes auront des afflictions dans la chair, et moi je voudrais vous les épargner.
29 And this I say, brethren, because the time is short, hereafter that both they which haue wiues, be as though they had none:
Mais voici ce que je dis, frères: le temps s’est fait court; il faut donc que ceux qui ont des femmes soient comme n’en ayant pas,
30 And they that weepe, as though they wept not: and they that reioyce, as though they reioyced not: and they that bye, as though they possessed not:
ceux qui pleurent comme ne pleurant pas, ceux qui se réjouissent comme ne se réjouissant pas, ceux qui achètent comme ne possédant pas,
31 And they that vse this worlde, as though they vsed it not: for the fashion of this worlde goeth away.
et ceux qui usent du monde comme n’en usant pas; car elle passe, la figure de ce monde.
32 And I would haue you without care. The vnmaried careth for the things of the Lord, howe he may please the Lord.
Or je voudrais que vous fussiez sans préoccupation. Celui qui n’est pas marié a souci des choses du Seigneur, il cherche à plaire au Seigneur;
33 But hee that is maried, careth for the things of the world, how he may please his wife.
celui qui est marié a souci des choses du monde, il cherche à plaire à sa femme, et il est partagé.
34 There is difference also betweene a virgine and a wife: the vnmaried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy, both in body and in spirite: but shee that is maried, careth for the things of the worlde, howe shee may please her husband.
De même la femme, celle qui n’a pas de mari, et la vierge, ont souci des choses du Seigneur, afin d’être saintes de corps et d’esprit; mais celle qui est mariée a souci des choses du monde, elle cherche à plaire à son mari.
35 And this I speake for your owne commoditie, not to tangle you in a snare, but that yee follow that, which is honest, and that yee may cleaue fast vnto the Lord without separation.
Je dis cela dans votre intérêt, non pour jeter sur vous le filet, mais en vue de ce qui est bienséant et propre à vous attacher au Seigneur sans tiraillements.
36 But if any man thinke that it is vncomely for his virgine, if shee passe the flower of her age, and neede so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them be maried.
Si quelqu’un juge qu’il exposerait sa fille au déshonneur, si elle passait la fleur de l’âge, et qu’il est de son devoir de la marier, qu’il fasse comme il veut, il ne pèche point; qu’elle se marie.
37 Neuerthelesse, hee that standeth firme in his heart, that hee hath no neede, but hath power ouer his owne will, and hath so decreed in his heart, that hee will keepe his virgine, hee doeth well.
Mais celui qui, sans y être forcé, étant maître de faire ce qu’il veut, a mis dans son cœur une ferme résolution, et a décidé de garder sa fille vierge, celui-là fait bien.
38 So then hee that giueth her to mariage, doeth well, but he that giueth her not to mariage, doeth better.
Ainsi celui qui marie sa fille fait bien, et celui qui ne la marie pas fait mieux.
39 The wife is bounde by the Lawe, as long as her husband liueth: but if her husband bee dead, shee is at libertie to marie with whome she will, onely in the Lord.
La femme est liée aussi longtemps que vit son mari; si le mari vient à mourir, elle est libre de se remarier à qui elle voudra; seulement que ce soit dans le Seigneur.
40 But shee is more blessed, if she so abide, in my iudgement: and I thinke that I haue also the Spirite of God.
Elle est plus heureuse, néanmoins, si elle demeure comme elle est: c’est mon avis; et je crois avoir, moi aussi, l’Esprit de Dieu.
