1 Chronicles 21
1 And Satan stoode vp against Israel, and prouoked Dauid to nomber Israel.
Sa-tan nổi lên chống lại người Ít-ra-ên, nên xúi giục Đa-vít kiểm kê dân số.
2 Therefore Dauid said to Ioab, and to the rulers of the people, Go, and nomber Israel from Beer-sheba euen to Dan, and bring it to me, that I may knowe the nomber of them.
Đa-vít ra lệnh cho Giô-áp và các tướng chỉ huy quân đội: “Hãy đi kiểm kê dân số Ít-ra-ên từ Bê-e-sê-ba đến Đan, rồi đem bảng thống kê về cho ta biết dân số toàn quốc.”
3 And Ioab answered, The Lord increase his people an hundreth times so many as they be, O my lord the King: are they not all my lords seruats? wherefore doeth my lord require this thing? why should he be a cause of trespasse to Israel?
Giô-áp thưa: “Cầu Chúa Hằng Hữu tăng số dân gấp trăm lần! Tất cả dân không phải là đầy tớ vua sao? Tại sao vua muốn kiểm kê dân số? Tại sao vua gây cho Ít-ra-ên mắc tội?”
4 Neuerthelesse the Kings word preuailed against Ioab. And Ioab departed and went thorowe all Israel, and returned to Ierusalem.
Tuy nhiên, vua bác bỏ lời can gián của Giô-áp, nên Giô-áp ra đi khắp đất nước Ít-ra-ên, thi hành phận sự rồi quay về Giê-ru-sa-lem,
5 And Ioab gaue the nomber and summe of the people vnto Dauid: and all Israel were eleuen hundreth thousande men that drewe sword: and Iudah was foure hundreth and seuentie thousande men that drewe sword.
và trình bảng thống kê dân số cho Đa-vít. Ít-ra-ên được 1.100.000 chiến sĩ có thể cầm gươm và Giu-đa được 470.000 chiến sĩ.
6 But the Leuites and Beniamin counted he not among them: for the Kings worde was abominable to Ioab.
Tuy nhiên, Giô-áp không kiểm kê dân số hai đại tộc Lê-vi và Bên-gia-min vì ông không thích lệnh vua bảo ông làm.
7 And God was displeased with this thing: therefore he smote Israel.
Kiểm kê dân số trong trường hợp này là một tội ác dưới mắt Đức Chúa Trời, nên Ngài hình phạt Ít-ra-ên.
8 Then Dauid saide vnto God, I haue sinned greatly, because I haue done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, remooue the iniquitie of thy seruant: for I haue done very foolishly.
Đa-vít thưa với Đức Chúa Trời: “Con đã phạm tội nặng quá, vì con làm việc này. Bây giờ, con xin Chúa bỏ qua tội ác của đầy tớ Chúa, vì con đã hành động cách điên dại!”
9 And the Lord spake vnto Gad Dauids Seer, saying,
Chúa Hằng Hữu liền bảo Gát, người tiên kiến của Đa-vít:
10 Goe and tell Dauid, saying, Thus saith the Lord, I offer thee three thinges: choose thee one of them, that I may doe it vnto thee.
“Hãy đi bảo Đa-vít rằng: ‘Chúa Hằng Hữu phán: Ta sẽ cho con ba điều. Hãy chọn một trong ba hình phạt, Ta sẽ thi hành điều con chọn.’”
11 So Gad came to Dauid, and sayde vnto him, Thus saith the Lord, Take to thee
Gát yết kiến Đa-vít, và thưa rằng: “Đây là sự chọn lựa Chúa Hằng Hữu dành cho anh
12 Either three yeeres famine, or three moneths to be destroyed before thine aduersaries, and the sworde of thine enemies to take thee, or els the sworde of the Lord and pestilence in the lande three dayes, that the Angel of the Lord may destroy throughout all the coastes of Israel: nowe therefore aduise thee, what word I shall bring againe to him that sent me.
Ba năm đói kém, ba tháng bị địch quân đánh bại bằng lưỡi gươm, hoặc ba ngày bị lưỡi gươm của Chúa Hằng Hữu hình phạt, tức là ba ngày dịch hạch trong đất nước, và thiên sứ Chúa Hằng Hữu phá hoại suốt cả lãnh thổ Ít-ra-ên. Vậy, vua chọn điều nào, xin cho tôi biết để về thưa lại với Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đấng đã sai tôi.”
13 And Dauid said vnto Gad, I am in a wonderfull strait. let me nowe fall into the hande of the Lord: for his mercies are exceeding great, and let me not fall into the hande of man.
Đa-vít đáp lời Gát: “Ta gặp hoạn nạn lớn. Nhưng bây giờ, hãy để ta sa vào tay Chúa Hằng Hữu, vì lòng thương xót của Ngài thật vĩ đại, xin đừng để ta sa vào tay loài người.”
14 So the Lord sent a pestilence in Israel, and there fell of Israel seuentie thousande men.
Vậy Chúa Hằng Hữu sai trận dịch hình phạt Ít-ra-ên làm 70.000 người thiệt mạng.
15 And God sent the Angel into Ierusalem to destroy it. And as he was destroying, the Lord behelde, and repented of the euill and sayde to the Angel that destroyed, It is nowe ynough, let thine hande cease. Then the Angel of the Lord stoode by the thresshing floore of Ornan the Iebusite.
Đức Chúa Trời sai một thiên sứ đến Giê-ru-sa-lem để hủy diệt. Nhưng khi thiên sứ đang ra tay hành hại, Chúa Hằng Hữu liền đổi ý về tai họa nên Ngài ra lệnh cho thiên sứ: “Đủ rồi! Hãy ngưng tay!” Lúc ấy, thiên sứ của Chúa Hằng Hữu đang đứng tại sân đạp lúa của Ọt-nan, người Giê-bu.
16 And Dauid lift vp his eyes, and sawe the Angel of the Lord stande betweene the earth and the heauen with his sworde drawen in his hand, and stretched out towarde Ierusalem. Then Dauid and the Elders of Israel, which were clothed in sacke, fell vpon their faces.
Đa-vít ngước mắt nhìn, bỗng thấy thiên sứ của Chúa Hằng Hữu đang đứng giữa không trung, tuốt gươm cầm sẵn, tay vươn ra trên Giê-ru-sa-lem. Đa-vít và các trưởng lão đều sấp mặt xuống đất, lấy áo tang phủ trên đầu.
17 And Dauid said vnto God, Is it not I that commanded to nomber the people? It is euen I that haue sinned and haue committed euil, but these sheepe what haue they done? O Lord my God, I beseech thee, let thine hande be on me and on my fathers house, and not on thy people for their destruction.
Đa-vít thưa với Đức Chúa Trời: “Con chính là người đã bảo kiểm kê dân số. Vâng, chính con đã phạm tội, thật đã làm việc ác. Còn đàn chiên này có làm gì đâu? Lạy Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của con, con nài xin Chúa hãy đưa tay đánh phạt con và nhà cha con, nhưng xin đừng để dân Chúa bị tai họa.”
18 Then the Angel of the Lord commanded Gad to say to Dauid, that Dauid should goe vp, and set vp an altar vnto the Lord in the thresshing floore of Ornan the Iebusite.
Thiên sứ của Chúa Hằng Hữu liền sai Gát đi bảo Đa-vít rằng ông hãy lên đây và dựng một bàn thờ cho Chúa Hằng Hữu tại sân đạp lúa của Ọt-nan, người Giê-bu.
19 So Dauid went vp according to the saying of Gad, which he had spoken in the Name of the Lord.
Vậy, Đa-vít vâng lời Chúa Hằng Hữu mà Gát đã nhân danh Ngài truyền lại, và đi lên địa điểm này.
20 And Ornan turned about, and sawe the Angel, and his foure sonnes, that were with him, hid them selues, and Ornan thresshed wheat.
Ọt-nan xây lại, chợt thấy thiên sứ. Bốn con trai của Ọt-nan đang ở bên cạnh liền đi trốn.
21 And as Dauid came to Ornan, Ornan looked and sawe Dauid, and went out of the thresshing floore, and bowed himselfe to Dauid with his face to the grounde.
Lúc ấy, Ọt-nan nhìn thấy vua liền ra khỏi sân đạp lúa, rạp mình cúi chào.
22 And Dauid saide to Ornan, Giue me the place of thy thresshing floore, that I may builde an altar therein vnto the Lord: giue it me for sufficient money, that the plague may be stayed from the people.
Đa-vít bảo Ọt-nan: “Ngươi hãy nhường cho ta khuôn viên sân đạp lúa này, ta sẽ trả đúng giá tiền, để ta xây một bàn thờ cho Chúa Hằng Hữu ngõ hầu Ngài ngưng tai họa cho dân.”
23 Then Ornan saide vnto Dauid, Take it to thee, and let my lord the King do that which seemeth him good: loe, I giue thee bullockes for burnt offrings, and thresshing instruments for wood, and wheat for meate offring, I giue it all.
Ọt-nan đáp: “Muôn tâu, xin vua cứ thu dụng sân đạp lúa này mà sử dụng theo ý muốn. Tôi cũng xin hiến thêm các con bò dùng làm tế lễ thiêu, các dụng cụ đập lúa làm củi, cùng lúa mì để dâng lễ chay. Tôi xin hiến dâng tất cả.”
24 And King Dauid saide to Ornan, Not so: but I will bye it for sufficient money: for I wil not take that which is thine for the Lord, nor offer burnt offrings without cost.
Nhưng Vua Đa-vít bảo Ọt-nan: “Không đâu! Ta chỉ muốn mua đúng giá. Ta không muốn lấy của cải của ngươi, để dâng lên Chúa Hằng Hữu. Cũng sẽ không dâng một của lễ thiêu mà chẳng tốn kém gì.”
25 So Dauid gaue to Ornan for that place sixe hundreth shekels of golde by weight.
Vậy, Đa-vít trả cho Ọt-nan 6,8 ký vàng để mua miếng đất.
26 And Dauid built there an altar vnto the Lord, and offred burnt offrings, and peace offrings, and called vpon the Lord, and he answered him by fire from heauen vpon the altar of burnt offring.
Rồi Đa-vít xây một bàn thờ cho Chúa Hằng Hữu, dâng tế lễ thiêu và tế lễ bình an. Đa-vít kêu cầu Chúa Hằng Hữu. Chúa liền đáp lời vua bằng cách giáng lửa từ trời xuống bàn thờ dâng tế lễ thiêu.
27 And when the Lord had spoken to the Angel, he put vp his sworde againe into his sheath.
Rồi Chúa Hằng Hữu ra lệnh cho thiên sứ thu gươm vào vỏ.
28 At that time when Dauid sawe that the Lord had heard him in the thresshing floore of Ornan the Iebusite, then he sacrificed there.
Bấy giờ, khi nhận thấy Chúa Hằng Hữu đã nhậm lời, Đa-vít liền tiếp tục dâng tế lễ tại sân đạp lúa của Ọt-nan, người Giê-bu.
29 (But the Tabernacle of the Lord which Moses had made in the wildernesse, and the altar of burnt offring were at that season in the hie place at Gibeon.
Trong khi đó, Đền Tạm của Chúa Hằng Hữu mà Môi-se đã làm tại hoang mạc và bàn thờ dâng tế lễ thiêu vẫn còn để trên nơi cao tại Ga-ba-ôn.
30 And Dauid could not go before it to aske counsel at God: for he was afraide of the sworde of the Angel of the Lord.)
Nhưng Đa-vít không thể đi đến đó để tìm kiếm Đức Chúa Trời, vì vua khiếp sợ thanh gươm của thiên sứ của Chúa Hằng Hữu.
