1 Chronicles 21
1 And Satan stoode vp against Israel, and prouoked Dauid to nomber Israel.
Satan se tint contre Israël, et il excita David à faire le dénombrement d’Israël.
2 Therefore Dauid said to Ioab, and to the rulers of the people, Go, and nomber Israel from Beer-sheba euen to Dan, and bring it to me, that I may knowe the nomber of them.
Et David dit à Joab et aux chefs du peuple: « Allez, comptez Israël depuis Bersabée jusqu’à Dan, et faites-moi un rapport, afin que je sache leur nombre. »
3 And Ioab answered, The Lord increase his people an hundreth times so many as they be, O my lord the King: are they not all my lords seruats? wherefore doeth my lord require this thing? why should he be a cause of trespasse to Israel?
Joab répondit: « Que Yahweh ajoute à son peuple cent fois ce qu’il y en a! O roi, monseigneur, ne sont-ils pas tous esclaves de mon seigneur? Pourquoi donc mon seigneur demande-t-il cela? Pourquoi faire venir le péché sur Israël? »
4 Neuerthelesse the Kings word preuailed against Ioab. And Ioab departed and went thorowe all Israel, and returned to Ierusalem.
Mais la parole du roi prévalut contre Joab. Joab partit et parcourut tout Israël, et il revint à Jérusalem.
5 And Ioab gaue the nomber and summe of the people vnto Dauid: and all Israel were eleuen hundreth thousande men that drewe sword: and Iudah was foure hundreth and seuentie thousande men that drewe sword.
Et Joab remit à David le rôle du dénombrement du peuple: il y avait dans tout Israël onze cent mille hommes tirant l’épée, et en Juda quatre cent soixante-dix mille hommes tirant l’épée.
6 But the Leuites and Beniamin counted he not among them: for the Kings worde was abominable to Ioab.
Il ne fit pas le dénombrement de Lévi et de Benjamin au milieu d’eux, car l’ordre du roi répugnait à Joab.
7 And God was displeased with this thing: therefore he smote Israel.
Dieu vit de mauvais œil cette affaire, et il frappa Israël.
8 Then Dauid saide vnto God, I haue sinned greatly, because I haue done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, remooue the iniquitie of thy seruant: for I haue done very foolishly.
Et David dit à Dieu: « J’ai commis un grand péché en faisant cela. Maintenant, ôtez, je vous prie, l’iniquité de votre serviteur, car j’ai tout à fait agi en insensé. »
9 And the Lord spake vnto Gad Dauids Seer, saying,
Yahweh parla à Gad, le voyant de David, en ces termes:
10 Goe and tell Dauid, saying, Thus saith the Lord, I offer thee three thinges: choose thee one of them, that I may doe it vnto thee.
« Va et parle à David en ces termes: Ainsi parle Yahweh: Je pose devant toi trois choses; choisis-en une, et je te la ferai. »
11 So Gad came to Dauid, and sayde vnto him, Thus saith the Lord, Take to thee
Gad vint vers David et lui dit: « Ainsi parle Yahweh: Choisis,
12 Either three yeeres famine, or three moneths to be destroyed before thine aduersaries, and the sworde of thine enemies to take thee, or els the sworde of the Lord and pestilence in the lande three dayes, that the Angel of the Lord may destroy throughout all the coastes of Israel: nowe therefore aduise thee, what word I shall bring againe to him that sent me.
ou trois années de famine, ou trois mois durant lesquels tu seras emporté devant tes adversaires et atteint par le glaive de tes ennemis, ou trois jours durant lesquels le glaive de Yahweh et la peste seront dans le pays, et l’ange de Yahweh opérera la destruction dans tout le territoire d’Israël. Maintenant, vois ce que je dois répondre à celui qui m’envoie. »
13 And Dauid said vnto Gad, I am in a wonderfull strait. let me nowe fall into the hande of the Lord: for his mercies are exceeding great, and let me not fall into the hande of man.
David dit à Gad: « Je suis dans une cruelle angoisse. Ah! que je tombe entre les mains de Yahweh, car ses miséricordes sont très grandes, et que je ne tombe pas entre les mains des hommes! »
14 So the Lord sent a pestilence in Israel, and there fell of Israel seuentie thousande men.
Et Yahweh envoya une peste en Israël, et il tomba soixante-dix mille hommes en Israël.
15 And God sent the Angel into Ierusalem to destroy it. And as he was destroying, the Lord behelde, and repented of the euill and sayde to the Angel that destroyed, It is nowe ynough, let thine hande cease. Then the Angel of the Lord stoode by the thresshing floore of Ornan the Iebusite.
Et Dieu envoya un ange à Jérusalem pour la détruire; et pendant qu’il détruisait, Yahweh vit et se repentit de ce mal, et il dit à l’ange qui détruisait: « Assez! retire maintenant ta main. » L’ange de Yahweh se tenait près de l’aire d’Ornan, le Jésubéen.
16 And Dauid lift vp his eyes, and sawe the Angel of the Lord stande betweene the earth and the heauen with his sworde drawen in his hand, and stretched out towarde Ierusalem. Then Dauid and the Elders of Israel, which were clothed in sacke, fell vpon their faces.
David, ayant levé les yeux, vit l’ange de Yahweh se tenant entre la terre et le ciel, et ayant à la main son épée nue, tournée contre Jérusalem. Alors David et les anciens, couverts de sacs, tombèrent sur leur visage.
17 And Dauid said vnto God, Is it not I that commanded to nomber the people? It is euen I that haue sinned and haue committed euil, but these sheepe what haue they done? O Lord my God, I beseech thee, let thine hande be on me and on my fathers house, and not on thy people for their destruction.
Et David dit à Dieu: « N’est-ce pas moi qui ai dit de faire le dénombrement du peuple? C’est moi qui ai péché et qui ai fait le mal; mais celles-là, ces brebis, qu’ont-elles fait? Yahweh, mon Dieu, que votre main soit donc sur moi et sur la maison de mon père, mais non sur votre peuple pour sa ruine. »
18 Then the Angel of the Lord commanded Gad to say to Dauid, that Dauid should goe vp, and set vp an altar vnto the Lord in the thresshing floore of Ornan the Iebusite.
L’ange de Yahweh ordonna à Gad de dire à David de monter pour élever un autel à Yahweh sur l’aire d’Ornan, le Jébuséen.
19 So Dauid went vp according to the saying of Gad, which he had spoken in the Name of the Lord.
David monta, selon la parole de Gad qu’il avait dite au nom de Yahweh.
20 And Ornan turned about, and sawe the Angel, and his foure sonnes, that were with him, hid them selues, and Ornan thresshed wheat.
Ornan, s’étant retourné, vit l’ange, et il se cacha, lui et ses quatre fils: Ornan battait alors du froment.
21 And as Dauid came to Ornan, Ornan looked and sawe Dauid, and went out of the thresshing floore, and bowed himselfe to Dauid with his face to the grounde.
Lorsque David arriva auprès d’Ornan, Ornan regarda et il aperçut David; sortant aussitôt de l’aire, il se prosterna devant David, le visage contre terre.
22 And Dauid saide to Ornan, Giue me the place of thy thresshing floore, that I may builde an altar therein vnto the Lord: giue it me for sufficient money, that the plague may be stayed from the people.
David dit à Ornan: « Cède-moi l’emplacement de l’aire, et j’y bâtirai un autel à Yahweh; cède-le-moi pour sa pleine valeur en argent, pour que la plaie se retire de dessus le peuple. »
23 Then Ornan saide vnto Dauid, Take it to thee, and let my lord the King do that which seemeth him good: loe, I giue thee bullockes for burnt offrings, and thresshing instruments for wood, and wheat for meate offring, I giue it all.
Ornan dit à David: « Prends-le, et que mon seigneur le roi fasse ce qu’il trouvera bon. Vois, je donne les bœufs pour l’holocauste, les traîneaux pour le bois, et le froment pour l’oblation; je donne tout cela. »
24 And King Dauid saide to Ornan, Not so: but I will bye it for sufficient money: for I wil not take that which is thine for the Lord, nor offer burnt offrings without cost.
Mais le roi David dit à Ornan: « Non! Mais je veux l’acheter contre sa pleine valeur en argent, car je ne prendrai pas ce qui est à toi pour Yahweh, et je n’offrirai pas un holocauste qui ne me coûte rien. »
25 So Dauid gaue to Ornan for that place sixe hundreth shekels of golde by weight.
David donna à Ornan un poids de six cents sicles d’or pour l’emplacement.
26 And Dauid built there an altar vnto the Lord, and offred burnt offrings, and peace offrings, and called vpon the Lord, and he answered him by fire from heauen vpon the altar of burnt offring.
Et David bâtit là un autel à Yahweh, et offrit des holocaustes et des sacrifices pacifiques. Il cria vers Yahweh, et Yahweh lui répondit par le feu qui descendit du ciel sur l’autel de l’holocauste.
27 And when the Lord had spoken to the Angel, he put vp his sworde againe into his sheath.
Et Yahweh parla à l’ange, et celui-ci remit son épée dans le fourreau.
28 At that time when Dauid sawe that the Lord had heard him in the thresshing floore of Ornan the Iebusite, then he sacrificed there.
En ce temps-là, David, voyant que Yahweh l’avait exaucé dans l’aire d’Ornan, le Jébuséen, y offrait des sacrifices.
29 (But the Tabernacle of the Lord which Moses had made in the wildernesse, and the altar of burnt offring were at that season in the hie place at Gibeon.
Le tabernacle de Yahweh, que Moïse avait construit au désert, et l’autel des holocaustes étaient en ce temps-là sur le haut lieu de Gabaon.
30 And Dauid could not go before it to aske counsel at God: for he was afraide of the sworde of the Angel of the Lord.)
Mais David ne pouvait pas aller devant cet autel pour honorer Dieu, parce qu’il avait été terrifié par l’épée de l’ange de Yahweh.
