1 Chronicles 17
1 Nowe afterward when Dauid dwelt in his house, he saide to Nathan the Prophet, Beholde, I dwell in an house of cedar trees, but the Arke of the Lordes couenant remaineth vnder curtaines.
Zodra David zijn paleis had betrokken, sprak hij tot Natan, den profeet: Zie eens; zelf woon ik in een paleis, en de verbondsark van Jahweh staat onder tentdoek!
2 Then Nathan said to Dauid, Do all that is in thine heart: for God is with thee.
Natan zeide tot David: Breng alles ten uitvoer, wat gij van plan zijt; want God is met u.
3 And the same night euen the word of God came to Nathan, saying,
Maar in dezelfde nacht werd het woord van God tot Natan gericht:
4 Goe, and tell Dauid my seruant, Thus saith the Lord, Thou shalt not buylde me an house to dwell in:
Ga aan mijn dienaar David zeggen: Zo spreekt Jahweh! Gij zult Mij geen huis bouwen, waarin Ik kan wonen!
5 For I haue dwelt in no house, since the day that I brought out the childre of Israel vnto this daye, but I haue bene from tent to tent, and from habitation to habitation.
Ik heb toch nimmer in een huis gewoond van de dag af, dat Ik Israël uit Egypte voerde, tot de dag van heden, maar Ik ben rondgetrokken in een tent en tabernakel.
6 Wheresoeuer I haue walked with all Israel spake I one word to any of the iudges of Israel (whome I commanded to feede my people) saying, Why haue ye not built mee an house of cedar trees?
En heb Ik ooit, zolang Ik met alle Israëlieten rondtrok, tot een van de rechters, die Ik tot leiders aanstelde van Israël, mijn volk, gezegd: Waarom bouwt ge Mij geen huis van cederhout?
7 Nowe therefore thus shalt thou say vnto my seruant Dauid, Thus saith the Lord of hostes, I tooke thee from the sheepecoat and from following the sheepe, that thou shouldest bee a prince ouer my people Israel.
Daarom moet ge mijn dienaar David zeggen: Zo spreekt Jahweh der heirscharen! Ik heb u uit de weide gehaald, achter de schapen vandaan, en u gemaakt tot leider van Israël, mijn volk;
8 And I haue bene with thee whithersoeuer thou hast walked, and haue destroyed all thine enemies out of thy sight, and haue made thee a name, like the name of the great men that are in the earth.
en Ik was met u op al uw tochten, en heb al uw vijanden voor u verdelgd. Welnu, Ik zal u een naam schenken, zo groot, als slechts de grootsten der aarde bezitten.
9 (Also I will appoynt a place for my people Israel, and will plant it, that they may dwell in their place, and moue no more: neither shall the wicked people vexe them any more, as at the beginning,
Ik zal een plek vaststellen voor Israël, mijn volk, waar het wortel kan schieten en waar het kan wonen, zonder ooit meer te worden opgeschrikt of door booswichten te worden verdrukt, zoals in vroegere tijden,
10 And since the time that I commanded iudges ouer my people Israel) And I wil subdue all thine enemies: therefore I say vnto thee, that the Lord wil buylde thee an house.
en sinds de dag, dat Ik rechters heb aangesteld over Israël, mijn volk. Ik zal al uw vijanden aan u onderwerpen. Ook kondig Ik u aan, dat Jahweh u een huis zal bouwen.
11 And when thy dayes shalbe fulfilled to go with thy fathers, then will I rayse vp thy seede after thee, which shalbe of thy sonnes, and will stablish his kingdome.
Wanneer uw dagen ten einde zijn, en gij bij uw vaderen te ruste zult gaan, dan zal Ik een van uw zonen tot uw nazaat verheffen, en zijn koningschap bestendig doen zijn.
12 He shall builde me an house, and I will stablish his throne for euer.
Hij zal Mij een tempel bouwen, en Ik zal zijn troon voor altijd bestendigen.
13 I wil be his father, and he shalbe my sonne, aud I will not take my mercie away from him, as I tooke it from him that was before thee.
Ik zal voor hem een vader zijn, en hij Mij een zoon. Nooit zal ik hem mijn gunst onthouden, zoals Ik dat gedaan heb met uw voorganger.
14 But I wil establish him in mine house, and in my kingdome for euer, and his throne shalbe stablished for euer,
Voor eeuwig zal Ik hem aanstellen over mijn tempel en over mijn koninkrijk, en zijn troon zal vaststaan voor eeuwig!
15 According to all these wordes, and according to al this vision. So Nathan spake to Dauid.
Toen Natan al deze woorden en openbaringen trouw aan David had overgebracht,
16 And Dauid the King went in and sate before the Lord and said, Who am I, O Lord God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?
ging koning David heen, zette zich voor Jahweh neer en sprak: Wie ben ik, Jahweh, o God, en wat is mijn huis, dat Gij mij tot hiertoe hebt gebracht!
17 Yet thou esteeming this a small thing, O God, hast also spoken concerning the house of thy seruaut for a great while, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of hie degree, O Lord God.
Maar ook dit was nog te gering in uw ogen, o God. Ook voor de verre toekomst hebt Gij over het huis van uw dienaar gesproken, en mij, een mens, de toekomstige glorie doen zien, Jahweh, mijn God!
18 What can Dauid desire more of thee for the honour of thy seruant? for thou knowest thy seruant.
Wat kan David dan nog meer tot U zeggen, tot U, die uw dienaar kent?
19 O Lord, for thy seruantes sake, euen according to thine heart hast thou done all this great thing to declare all magnificence.
Jahweh, terwille van uw dienaar, en naar de neiging uws harten hebt Gij gehandeld, en tevens uw dienaar al die grootheid geopenbaard.
20 Lord, there is none like thee, neither is there any God besides thee, according to all that we haue heard with our eares.
Daarom, Jahweh, er is niemand als Gij, en geen God buiten U, juist als onze oren het altijd hebben gehoord.
21 Moreouer what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whose God went to redeeme them to be his people, and to make thy selfe a Name, and to doe great and terrible things by casting out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast deliuered out of Egypt?
En wie kan vergeleken worden met Israël, uw volk? Het is het enige volk ter wereld, dat God kwam vrijkopen, om het tot zijn volk te verkiezen, om U een grote en ontzagwekkende naam te geven, door volken voor uw volk te verdrijven, dat Gij uit Egypte hebt vrijgekocht.
22 For thou hast ordeined thy people Israel to be thine owne people for euer, and thou Lord art become their God.
Voor eeuwig hebt Gij Israël, uw volk, tot uw volk gemaakt, en zijt Gij Jahweh, hun God.
23 Therefore nowe Lord, let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy seruant and concerning his house, be confirmed for euer, and doe as thou hast sayd,
Welnu dan Jahweh, laat voor eeuwig het woord in vervulling gaan, dat Gij over uw dienaar en over zijn huis hebt gesproken, en doe, zoals Gij beloofd hebt.
24 And let thy name be stable and magnified for euer, that it may be sayd, The Lord of hostes, God of Israel, is the God of Israel, and let the house of Dauid thy seruant bee stablished before thee.
Dan zal uw Naam vaststaan en groot zijn in eeuwigheid, en zal men zeggen: Jahweh der heirscharen, de God van Israël, is waarlijk Israëls God, en het huis van David, uw dienaar, is bestendig voor uw aanschijn.
25 For thou, O my God, hast reueiled vnto the eare of thy seruant, that thou wilt builde him an house: therefore thy seruant hath bene bolde to pray before thee.
Mijn God, zelf hebt Gij het uw dienaar geopenbaard: Ik zal u een huis bouwen! Daarom heeft uw dienaar het aangedurfd, dit smeekgebed tot U te richten.
26 Therefore nowe Lord (for thou art God, and hast spoken this goodnesse vnto thy seruant)
Welnu dan Jahweh, Gij zijt God. Gij hebt deze weldaad aan uw dienaar beloofd.
27 Now therfore, it hath pleased thee to blesse the house of thy seruant, that it may bee before thee for euer: for thou, O Lord, hast blessed it, and it shalbe blessed for euer.
Begin dan, van nu af, het huis van uw dienaar te zegenen, opdat het voor altijd bestendig zij voor uw aanschijn. Want wat Gij hebt gezegend, o Jahweh, is gezegend in eeuwigheid!
