< 1 Chronicles 12 >

1 These also are they that came to Dauid to Ziklag, while he was yet kept close, because of Saul the sonne of Kish: and they were among the valiant and helpers of the battel.
And these [are] those coming to David at Ziklag, while shut up because of Saul son of Kish, and they [are] among the mighty ones, helping the battle,
2 They were weaponed with bowes, and could vse the right and the left hand with stones and with arrowes and with bowes, and were of Sauls brethren, euen of Beniamin.
armed with bow, right and left handed, with stones, and with arrows, with bows, of the brothers of Saul, of Benjamin.
3 The chiefe were Ahiezer, and Ioash the sonnes of Shemaah a Gibeathite, and Ieziel, and Pelet the sonnes of Asinaueth, Berachah and Iehu the Antothite,
The head [is] Ahiezer, and Joash, sons of Shemaab the Gibeathite, and Jeziel, and Pelet, sons of Azmaveth, and Berachah, and Jehu the Antothite,
4 And Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a valiant man among thirtie, and aboue the thirtie, and Ieremiah, and Iehaziel, and Iohanan, and Ioshabad the Gederathite,
and Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty one among the thirty, and over the thirty, and Jeremiah, and Jahaziel, and Johanan, and Josabad the Gederathite.
5 Eluzai, and Ierimoth, and Bealiah, and Shemariah, and Shephatiah the Haruphite,
Eluzai, and Jerimoth, and Bealiah, and Shemariah, and Shephatiah the Haruphite;
6 Elkanah, and Ishiah, and Azariel, and Ioezer, Iashobeam of Hakorehim,
Elkanah, and Jesiah, and Azareel, and Joezer, and Jashobeam the Korahites,
7 And Ioelah, and Zebadiah, the sonnes of Ieroham of Gedor,
and Joelah, and Zebadiah, sons of Jeroham of Gedor.
8 And of the Gadites there separated them selues some vnto Dauid into the holde of the wildernesse, valiant men of warre, and men of armes, and apt for battel, which coulde handle speare and shielde, and their faces were like the faces of lyons, and were like the roes in the mountaines in swiftnesse,
And of the Gadite there have been separated to David, to the fortress, to the wilderness, mighty men of valor, men of the host for battle, setting in array buckler and spear, and their faces [are as] the face of the lion, and as roes on the mountains for speed:
9 Ezer the chiefe, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third,
Ezer the head, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third,
10 Mishmanah the fourth, Ieremiah the fift,
Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth,
11 Attai the sixt, Eliel the seuenth,
Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh,
12 Iohanan the eight, Elzabad the ninth,
Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth,
13 Ieremiah the tenth, Macbannai the eleuenth.
Jeremiah the tenth, Machbannai the eleventh.
14 These were the sonnes of Gad, captaines of the hoste: one of the least could resist an hundreth, and the greatest a thousand.
These [are] of the sons of Gad, heads of the host; the least [is] one of one hundred, and the greatest, of one thousand;
15 These are they that went ouer Iorden in the first moneth when he had filled ouer all his bankes, and put to flight all them of the valley, toward the East and the West.
these [are] they who have passed over the Jordan in the first month—and it is full over all its banks—and cause all [those in] the valley to flee to the east and to the west.
16 And there came of the children of Beniamin, and Iudah to the hold vnto Dauid,
And [some] from the sons of Benjamin and Judah came to David at the stronghold,
17 And Dauid went out to meete them, and answered and sayde vnto them, If yee be come peaceably vnto me to helpe me, mine heart shall be knit vnto you, but if you come to betray me to mine aduersaries, seeing there is no wickednes in mine handes, the God of our fathers beholde it, and rebuke it.
and David goes out before them, and answers and says to them, “If you have come to me for peace, to help me, I have a heart to unite with you; and if to betray me to my adversaries—without violence in my hands—the God of our fathers sees and reproves.”
18 And the spirit came vpon Amasai, which was the chiefe of thirtie, and he said, Thine are we, Dauid, and with thee, O sonne of Ishai. Peace, peace be vnto thee, and peace be vnto thine helpers: for thy God helpeth thee. Then Dauid receiued them, and made them captaines of the garison.
And the Spirit has clothed Amasai, head of the captains: “To you, O David, and with you, O son of Jesse—peace! Peace to you, and peace to your helper, for your God has helped you”; and David receives them, and puts them among the heads of the troop.
19 And of Manasseh some fell to Dauid, when he came with the Philistims against Saul to battell, but they helped them not: for the Princes of the Philistims by aduisement sent him away, saying, He will fall to his master Saul for our heads.
And [some] from Manasseh have defected to David in his coming with the Philistines against Israel to battle—and they did not help them, for by counsel the princes of the Philistines sent him away, saying, “He defects with our heads to his master Saul.”
20 As he went to Ziklag, there fell to him of Manasseh, Adnah, and Iozabad, and Iediael, and Michael, and Iozabad, and Elihu, and Ziltai, heads of the thousands that were of Manasseh.
In his going to Ziglag there have fallen to him from Manasseh: Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zillthai, heads of the thousands who [are] of Manasseh;
21 And they helped Dauid against that bad: for they were all valiant men and were captaines in the hoste.
and they have helped with David over the troop, for all of them [are] mighty men of valor, and they are captains in the host,
22 For at that time day by day there came to Dauid to helpe him, vntill it was a great hoste, like the hoste of God.
for at that time, day by day, they come to David to help him, until it is a great camp, like a camp of God.
23 And these are the nombers of the captaines that were armed to battell, and came to Dauid to Hebron to turne the kingdome of Saul to him, according to the worde of the Lord.
And these [are] the numbers of the head, of the armed men of the host; they have come to David at Hebron to turn around the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the mouth of YHWH.
24 The children of Iudah that bare shield and speare, were sixe thousand and eight hundreth armed to the warre.
The sons of Judah, carrying buckler and spear, [are] six thousand and eight hundred, armed ones of the host.
25 Of the children of Simeon valiant men of warre, seuen thousand and an hundreth.
Of the sons of Simeon, mighty men of valor for the host, [are] seven thousand and one hundred.
26 Of the children of Leui foure thousande and sixe hundreth.
Of the sons of Levi [are] four thousand and six hundred;
27 And Iehoiada was the chiefe of them of Aaron: and with him three thousande and seuen hundreth.
and Jehoiada [is] the leader of the Aaronite, and with him [are] three thousand and seven hundred,
28 And Zadok a yong man very valiant, and of his fathers housholde came two and twentie captaines.
and Zadok, a young man, a mighty man of valor, and of the house of his father [are] twenty-two heads.
29 And of the children of Beniamin the brethren of Saul three thousande: for a great part of them vnto that time kept the warde of the house of Saul.
And of the sons of Benjamin, brothers of Saul, [are] three thousand, and until now their greater part are keeping the charge of the house of Saul.
30 And of the children of Ephraim twentie thousande, and eight hundreth valiant men and famous men in the housholde of their fathers.
And of the sons of Ephraim [are] twenty thousand and eight hundred, mighty men of valor, men of renown, according to the house of their fathers.
31 And of the halfe tribe of Manasseh eighteene thousand, which were appointed by name to come and make Dauid King.
And of the half of the tribe of Manasseh [are] eighteen thousand, who have been defined by name, to come to cause David to reign.
32 And of the children of Issachar which were men that had vnderstanding of the times, to knowe what Israel ought to doe: the heades of them were two hundreth, and all their brethren were at their commandement.
And of the sons of Issachar, having understanding for the times, to know what Israel should do; their heads [are] two hundred, and all their brothers [are] at their command.
33 Of Zebulun that went out to battel, expert in warre, and in all instruments of warre, fiftie thousande which could set the battell in aray: they were not of a double heart.
Of Zebulun, going forth to the host, arranging battle with all instruments of battle, [are] fifty thousand, and keeping rank without a double heart.
34 And of Naphtali a thousand captaines, and with them with shielde and speare seuen and thirtie thousande.
And of Naphtali, one thousand heads, and with them, with buckler and spear, [are] thirty-seven thousand.
35 And of Dan expert in battell, eyght and twentie thousande, and sixe hundreth.
And of the Danite, arranging battle, [are] twenty-eight thousand and six hundred.
36 And of Asher that went out to the battell and were trained in the warres, fourtie thousand.
And of Asher, going forth to the host, to arrange battle, [are] forty thousand.
37 And of the other side of Iorden of the Reubenites, and of the Gadites, and of the halfe tribe of Manasseh with all instruments of warre to fight with, an hundreth and twentie thousand.
And from beyond the Jordan, of the Reubenite, and of the Gadite, and of the half of the tribe of Manasseh, with all instruments of the host for battle, [are] one hundred and twenty thousand.
38 All these men of warre that coulde leade an armie, came with vpright heart to Hebron to make Dauid King ouer all Israel: and all the rest of Israel was of one accorde to make Dauid King:
All these [are] men of war, keeping rank—they have come to Hebron with a perfect heart, to cause David to reign over all Israel, and also all the rest of Israel [are] of one heart, to cause David to reign,
39 And there they were with Dauid three dayes, eating and drinking: for their brethren had prepared for them.
and they are there, with David, three days, eating and drinking, for their brothers have prepared for them.
40 Moreouer they that were neere them vntill Issachar, and Zebulun, and Naphtali brought bread vpon asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, euen meate, floure, figges, and reisins, and wine and oyle, and beeues and sheepe abundantly: for there was ioy in Israel.
And also those near to them—to Issachar, and Zebulun, and Naphtali—are bringing in bread on donkeys, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen—food of fine flour, fig-cakes and grape-cakes, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep, in abundance, for joy [is] in Israel.
