1 Chronicles 10
1 Then the Philistims fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled before the Philistims, and fell downe slaine in mount Gilboa.
Orang Filistin berperang dengan orang Israel. Mereka bertempur di pegunungan Gilboa. Banyak orang Israel tewas di situ, dan sisanya termasuk Raja Saul dan putra-putranya melarikan diri.
2 And the Philistims pursued after Saul and after his sonnes, and the Philistims smote Ionathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua the sonnes of Saul.
Tetapi mereka disusul oleh orang Filistin dan tiga orang di antara putra-putra Saul dibunuh, yaitu Yonatan, Abinadab dan Malkisua.
3 And the battel was sore against Saul; and the archers hit him, and he was wounded of the archers.
Pertempuran amat sengit di sekitar Saul, dan ia sendiri kena panah-panah musuh sehingga luka.
4 Then sayde Saul to his armour bearer, Drawe out thy sworde, and thrust me thorowe therewith, lest these vncircumcised come and mocke at me: but his armour bearer would not, for he was sore afraid: therefore Saul tooke the sword and fell vpon it.
Maka kata Saul kepada pemuda yang membawa senjatanya, "Cabutlah pedangmu dan tikamlah aku supaya jangan aku dipermainkan oleh orang Filistin yang tak mengenal TUHAN itu." Tetapi pemuda itu tidak mau menikam Saul karena ia sangat takut. Sebab itu Saul mengambil pedangnya sendiri dan merebahkan dirinya ke atas pedang itu.
5 And when his armour bearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise vpon the sworde, and dyed.
Ketika pemuda itu melihat bahwa Saul sudah mati, ia pun merebahkan dirinya ke atas pedangnya, lalu mati.
6 So Saul dyed and his three sonnes, and all his house, they dyed together.
Maka meninggallah Saul bersama ketiga putranya, dan dengan itu berakhirlah juga dinastinya.
7 And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley, sawe how they fledde, and that Saul and his sonnes were dead, they forsooke their cities, and fled away, and the Philistims came, and dwelt in them.
Ketika semua orang Israel yang tinggal di lembah Yizreel mendengar bahwa tentara Israel telah melarikan diri, dan bahwa Saul serta putra-putranya sudah tewas, mereka lari meninggalkan kota-kota mereka. Lalu orang Filistin menduduki kota-kota itu.
8 And on the morrowe when the Philistims came to spoyle them that were slaine, they found Saul and his sonnes lying in mount Gilboa.
Besoknya ketika orang Filistin datang untuk merampoki mayat-mayat, mereka menemukan Saul dan ketiga orang putranya sudah tewas di pegunungan Gilboa.
9 And when they had stript him, they tooke his head and his armour, and sent them into the land of the Philistims round about, to publish it vnto their idoles, and to the people.
Mereka melepaskan baju perang Saul, dan memenggal kepalanya, lalu membawanya pergi. Kemudian mereka mengirim utusan ke seluruh negeri Filistin untuk menyampaikan kabar baik itu kepada bangsa dan dewa mereka.
10 And they layd vp his armour in the house of their god, and set vp his head in the house of Dagon.
Baju perang Saul itu disimpan di dalam sebuah kuil mereka, dan kepalanya digantung di dalam rumah Dagon, dewa mereka.
11 When all they of Iabesh Gilead heard all that the Philistims had done to Saul,
Ketika penduduk Yabes di Gilead mendengar apa yang telah dilakukan oleh orang Filistin terhadap Saul,
12 Then they arose (all the valiant men) and tooke the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sonnes, and brought them to Iabesh, and buryed the bones of them vnder an oke in Iabesh, and fasted seuen dayes.
orang-orang yang paling berani di antara mereka pergi mengambil jenazah Saul dan putra-putranya, lalu membawanya ke Yabes. Mereka menguburkan dia di bawah sebuah pohon besar, kemudian mereka berpuasa tujuh hari lamanya.
13 So Saul dyed for his transgression, that he committed against the Lord, euen against the word of the Lord, which he kept not, and in that he sought and asked counsel of a familiar spirit,
Saul meninggal karena ia tidak setia kepada TUHAN, dan tidak mentaati perintah-perintah-Nya. Ia tidak minta petunjuk dari TUHAN, melainkan dari roh-roh orang mati. Karena itu TUHAN menghukum dia dan menyerahkan takhtanya kepada Daud anak Isai.
14 And asked not of the Lord: therefore he slewe him, and turned the kingdome vnto Dauid the sonne of Ishai.
