Zephaniah 2
1 Come together, yes, gather together, you worthless nation—
Raccoglietevi, raccoglietevi, o nazione spudorata,
2 before the decree is issued, before you wither and die like a flower, before the burning anger of the Lord falls on you, before the day of the Lord's anger comes on you.
prima che il decreto partorisca, e il giorno passi come la pula, prima che vi piombi addosso l’ardente ira dell’Eterno, prima che vi sorprenda il giorno dell’ira dell’Eterno!
3 Look to the Lord, all you people of the land who are humble and who follow his commands. Look to do what is right; look to live in humility. Perhaps you will be protected on the day of the Lord's anger.
Cercate l’Eterno, voi tutti, umili della terra, che avete praticato le sue prescrizioni! Cercate la giustizia, cercate l’umiltà! Forse, sarete messi al coperto nel giorno dell’ira dell’Eterno.
4 Gaza will be abandoned, Ashkelon will become desolate, Ashdod will be emptied by noon, Ekron will be ripped up.
Poiché Gaza sarà abbandonata, e Askalon ridotta una desolazione; Asdod sarà cacciata in pien mezzogiorno, ed Ekron sarà sradicata.
5 What disaster is coming to you Philistines, you sea-people who live along the coast and in the land of Canaan! The Lord has passed judgment on you. I will destroy you—there will be no survivors.
Guai agli abitanti della regione marittima, alla nazione dei Keretei! La parola dell’Eterno è rivolta contro di te, o Canaan, paese de’ Filistei! E io ti distruggerò, sì che nessuno più ti abiterà.
6 Your seacoast will become pastures, with meadows for shepherds and sheep pens for flocks.
E la regione marittima non sarà più che pascoli, grotte di pastori, e chiusi da greggi.
7 It will belong to those who remain of the people of Judah. They will graze their flocks there, and the shepherds will sleep in the abandoned houses of Ashkelon. For the Lord their God will be with them and make them prosperous again.
E sarà una regione per il resto della casa di Giuda; quivi pascoleranno; la sera si coricheranno nelle case di Askalon, perché l’Eterno, il loro Dio, li visiterà, e li farà tornare dalla cattività.
8 I have heard the mocking taunts of the Moabites and the scornful derision of the Ammonites who have insulted my people and made threats against their territory.
Io ho udito gl’insulti di Moab e gli oltraggi de’ figliuoli d’Ammon, che hanno insultato il mio popolo e si sono ingranditi, invadendo i suoi confini.
9 Consequently, as I live, declares the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, the Moabites will become like Sodom, and the Ammonites like Gomorrah. Their land will become a place of weeds and salt pits and ruins forever. Those who remain of my people will plunder them and occupy their land.
Perciò, com’è vero ch’io vivo, dice l’Eterno degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele, Moab sarà come Sodoma, e i figliuoli d’Ammon come Gomorra, un dominio d’ortiche, una salina, una desolazione in perpetuo. Il resto del mio popolo li saccheggerà, e il residuo della mia nazione li possederà.
10 This is what they will receive for their pride because they mocked and threatened the people of the Lord Almighty.
Questo avverrà loro per il loro orgoglio, perché hanno insultato e trattato con insolenza il popolo dell’Eterno degli eserciti.
11 The Lord will make them terribly afraid as he starves to death all the gods of the land. Every nation will worship the Lord wherever they are—all around the world.
L’Eterno sarà terribile contro di loro; perché annienterà tutti gli dèi della terra; e tutte le isole delle nazioni lo adoreranno, ciascuno dal luogo ove si trova.
12 You Ethiopians will be killed by the sword.
Voi pure, Etiopi, sarete uccisi dalla mia spada.
13 The Lord will strike the Assyrians in the north and destroy them. He will make Nineveh desolate, a dry wasteland like the desert.
Ed egli stenderà la mano contro il settentrione e distruggerà l’Assiria, e ridurrà Ninive una desolazione, un luogo arido come il deserto.
14 Herds will lie down in the middle of the city. It will become the home for every kind of wild animal. Eagle owls and screech owls will roost on its columns. Their calls will echo through the windows. Rubble will block the doors, and the cedar woodwork will be exposed.
E in mezzo a lei giaceranno greggi e animali d’ogni specie; perfino il pellicano ed il riccio pernotteranno tra i suoi capitelli; s’udranno canti d’uccelli dalle finestre; la devastazione sarà sulle soglie, perché sarà spogliata dei suoi rivestimenti di cedro.
15 This is what will happen to this triumphant city that thought it was so secure. “Look at me!” it said proudly to itself. “There is no city as great as me!” But it has become a desolate place—just a home for wild animals. Everyone who passes by will point their finger and laugh in derision.
Tale sarà la festante città, che se ne sta sicura, e dice in cuor suo: “Io, e nessun altro fuori di me!” Come mai è diventata una desolazione, un ricetto di bestie? Chiunque le passerà vicino fischierà e agiterà la mano.
