< Psalms 78 >

1 A psalm (maskil) of Asaph. Listen to what I have to teach you, my people; hear what I have to say.
Maskiilii Asaaf. Yaa saba ko, barsiisa koo dhagaʼaa; dubbii afaan koo dhaggeeffadhaa.
2 I will tell you wise sayings; I will explain mysteries from the past
Ani fakkeenyaan afaan koo nan banadha; waan durumaa jalqabee dhokfames nan dubbadha.
3 that we have heard before and reflected on; stories our forefathers passed down to us.
Kunis waanuma nu dhageenyee fi waanuma nu beeknu, waan abbootiin keenya nutti himanii dha.
4 We will not keep them from our children; we will tell the next generation about God's marvelous actions—about his power and the amazing things he has done.
Nus waan kana ijoollee isaanii duraa hin dhoksinu; hojii Waaqayyoo ulfina qabeessa sana, humna isaatii fi dinqii inni hojjete, dhaloota itti aanutti ni himna.
5 He gave his laws to the descendants of Jacob; his instructions to the people of Israel. He commanded our forefathers to teach them to their children,
Inni Yaaqoobiif sirna dhaabe; Israaʼeliif immoo seera kenne; waan kana illee akka isaan ijoollee isaanii barsiisaniif, abbootii keenya ajaje;
6 so that the next generation—children yet to be born—would understand and grow up to teach their children.
kunis akka dhaloonni itti aanu beeku, akka ijoolleen amma iyyuu hin dhalatin beekan, isaanis akka ijoollee isaaniitti dabarsanii himaniif.
7 In this way they should place their trust in God and not forget what God has done, and keep his commandments.
Yoos isaan Waaqa amanatu; ajaja isaas ni eegu malee hojii isaa hin irraanfatan.
8 Then they would not be like their forefathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation that was untrustworthy and unfaithful.
Isaan akka abbootii isaanii, akka dhaloota mata jabeessaa fi fincilaa, warra garaan isaanii Waaqaaf hin ajajamnee, akka warra hafuurri isaanii isaaf hin amanamin sanaa hin taʼan.
9 The soldiers of Ephraim, though armed with bows, ran away on the day of battle.
Namoonni Efreem xiyya qabatanii turan; taʼus gaafa lolaa duubatti deebiʼan.
10 They did not keep God's agreement, and refused to follow his laws.
Isaan kakuu Waaqaa hin eegne; seera isaattis buluu didan.
11 They ignored what he had done, and the amazing things he had shown them—
Isaan hojii inni hojjete, dinqii inni isaanitti argisiises ni irraanfatan.
12 the miracles he had performed for their forefathers near Zoan in Egypt.
Inni fuula abbootii isaanii duratti, biyya Gibxi kutaa Zooʼaanitti waan nama dinqisiisu hojjete.
13 He split the sea in two and led them through, making the water stand like walls on either side.
Inni galaana gargar qoodee gidduun isaan dabarse; bishaan sanas akkuma keenyan manaa dhaabachiise.
14 He led them with a cloud by day, and by night with a light of fire.
Guyyaa duumessaan, halkan guutuu immoo ifa ibiddaatiin isaan geggeesse.
15 He split open rocks in the desert to give his people plenty to drink, water as deep as the ocean.
Inni gammoojjii keessatti kattaa dayyaasee bishaan akka galaanaa baayʼatu isaanii kenne.
16 He made streams flow from the stone; water rushing down like rivers!
Kattaa keessaa burqaa burqisiisee akka bishaan akkuma lagaatti yaaʼu godhe.
17 But they repeatedly sinned against him, rebelling against the Most High in the desert.
Isaan garuu gammoojjii keessatti Waaqa Waan Hundaa Oliitti fincilan; ittuma fufaniis isatti cubbuu hojjetan.
18 They deliberately provoked God by demanding the foods they longed for.
Isaan nyaata dharraʼanii, “Fidi” jechuudhaan beekumsa Waaqaa qoran.
19 They insulted God by saying, “Can God provide food here in the desert?
Akkana jedhanii Waaqa hamatan; “Waaqni gammoojjii keessatti maaddii qopheessuu dandaʼaa?
20 Yes, he can strike a rock so that water gushes out like flowing rivers, but can he give us bread? Can he supply his people with meat?”
Inni kattaa rukunnaan bishaan humnaan keessaa burqe; burqaan guutee irraan dhangalaʼe. Garuu inni nyaata nuu kennuu dandaʼaa? Saba isaatiifis foon kennuu dandaʼaa?”
21 When he heard this, the Lord became very angry, burning like fire against the descendants of Jacob, furious with the people of Israel,
Waaqayyo yommuu waan kana dhagaʼetti baayʼee aare; Yaaqoob irratti ibiddi isaa ni qabsiifame; dheekkamsi isaas Israaʼelitti dhufe;
22 for they didn't believe in God and didn't trust him to take care of them.
isaan Waaqa hin amananneetii; fayyisuu isaattis hin amanne.
23 Even so he commanded the skies above and the doors of heaven to open,
Inni garuu samii gubbaatiif ajaja kenne; balbala samiis ni bane;
24 and he made manna rain down on them to eat, giving them bread from heaven.
akka isaan nyaataniif mannaa gad roobseef; midhaan samiis isaaniif kenne.
25 Human beings ate the bread of angels; he sent them more than enough food.
Namoonni buddeena ergamoota Waaqayyoo nyaatan; inni waan isaan nyaatanii quufan ergeef.
26 He sent the east wind blowing across the sky; by his power he drove the south wind.
Inni akka bubbeen baʼa biiftuu samii keessaa bubbisu godhe; bubbee kibbaas humna ofii isaatiin oofe.
27 He rained down meat on them as plentiful as dust; birds as numerous as sand on a beach.
Foon akkuma awwaaraatti, simbirroota barrisanis akkuma cirracha galaanaatti gad isaaniif roobse.
28 He made them fall right in the middle of their camp, all around where they were living.
Innis akka isaan qubata isaanii keessatti naannoo dunkaanota isaaniitti gad harcaʼan godhe.
29 They ate until they were full. He gave them the food they longed for.
Isaanis nyaatanii quufan; inni waan isaan dharraʼan isaaniif kenneeraatii.
30 But before they satisfied their appetite, while the meat was still in their mouths,
Garuu utuu isaan nyaata dharraʼan sana hin quufin, utuma nyaanni sun afaan isaanii keessa jiruu,
31 God became angry with them and he killed their strongest men, striking them down in the prime of life.
dheekkamsi Waaqaa isaanitti dhufe; innis isaan keessaa warra jajjabeeyyii galaafate; dargaggeeyyii Israaʼelis ni fixe.
32 Despite all this they went right on sinning. Despite the miracles, they refused to trust him.
Isaan waan kana hunda irra darbanii cubbuu hojjechuutti fufan; dinqii isaattis hin amanne.
33 So he snuffed out their futile lives, bringing them to an end in terror.
Kanaafuu inni akka barri isaanii faayidaa malee darbu, akka waggoonni isaaniis sodaadhaan dhuman godhe.
34 When he began killing them, the rest came back to God in repentance, praying to him.
Yeroo Waaqni isaan ajjeese kamitti iyyuu, isaan isa barbaaddatan; isaan ammas fedhiidhaan gara isaatti deebiʼan.
35 They remembered that God was their rock, that God Most High was their Savior.
Akka Waaqni Kattaa isaanii taʼe, akka Waaqni Waan Hundaa Olii Furii isaanii taʼe yaadatan.
36 They flattered him by what they told him, but they were only lying.
Isaan garuu afaan isaaniitiin isa saadan; arraba isaaniitiinis isa soban;
37 Deep down they were not sincere, and did not keep the agreement they had with him.
garaan isaanii isaaf amanamaa hin turre; isaan kakuu isaatiif hin amanamne.
38 But being compassionate he pardoned their guilt and did not destroy all of them. He often held back his anger—he did not pour out all his fury.
Inni garuu araara qabeessa waan taʼeef, cubbuu isaanii ni dhiiseef malee isaan hin fixne. Inni yeroo yerootti aarii isaa ittifate; dheekkamsa isaa hundaas hin kakaafne.
39 He remembered their mortality—that they were like a puff of wind that would not return.
Innis akka isaan nama duʼa hin oolle, qilleensuma darbu kan deebiʼee hin dhufne taʼan yaadate.
40 How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, giving him grief in the desert!
Isaan hammam gammoojjii keessatti isatti fincilanii gammoojjii keessattis isa gaddisiisan
41 Again and again they provoked God, causing pain to the Holy One of Israel.
Isaan ammumaa amma Waaqa qoran; Qulqullicha Israaʼel sanas ni aarsan.
42 They did not remember his strength when he rescued them from their oppressors,
Isaan humna isaa yookaan guyyaa inni itti diinota isaanii jalaa isaan baase hin yaadanne.
43 performing miracles in Egypt, doing wonderful things on the plain of Zoan.
Guyyaa inni itti biyya Gibxi keessatti mallattoo isaa, kutaa Zooʼaan keessatti immoo dinqii isaa argisiise isaan hin yaadanne.
44 There he turned their rivers and their streams into blood so that no one could drink from them.
Inni lageen isaanii dhiigatti geeddare; isaanis burqaawwan isaanii dhuguu hin dandeenye.
45 He sent flies among them to destroy them, and frogs to ruin everything.
Innis tuuta tisiisaa kan isaan balleessu, fattee isaan barbadeessu itti erge.
46 He gave their crops to locusts; everything they worked had for was taken by locusts.
Midhaan isaanii ilmaan hawwaannisaatiif, buʼaa dadhabbii isaanii immoo hawwaannisaaf kenne.
47 He destroyed their vines with hail, and their fig trees with freezing rain.
Muka wayinii isaanii cabbiidhaan, harbuu isaanii immoo dhaamocha hamaan dhaʼe.
48 He handed over their cattle to hail and their flocks to lightning bolts.
Loon isaanii cabbiif, horii isaanii immoo bakakkaaf dabarsee kenne.
49 He poured out on them his fierce anger—rage and hostility and anguish—sending a band of destroying angels against them.
Inni ergamoota badiisa fidan isaanitti erguudhaan aarii isaa sodaachisaa, dheekkamsa isaa, dallansuu isaatii fi rakkoo isaanitti gad lakkise.
50 He sent his unrestrained anger against them; he did not spare them from death, handing them over to the plague.
Inni aarii isaatiif daandii qopheesse; lubbuu isaanii dabarsee dhaʼichatti kenne malee duʼa isaan hin oolchine.
51 He struck down all the firstborn of Egypt, the first to be conceived in the tents of Ham.
Hangafoota Gibxi hunda, ilmaan jalqabatti dhalatanis dunkaana Haam keessatti dhaʼe.
52 But he led out his people like sheep, and guided them like a flock in the wilderness.
Saba isaa garuu akkuma nama bushaayee bobbaasuutti achii baase; akkuma hoolaas gammoojjii keessa isaan geggeesse.
53 He led them to safety, and they were not afraid. He drowned their enemies in the sea.
Inni nagaadhaan isaan geggeesse; kanaafuu isaan homaa hin sodaanne; diinota isaanii garuu galaanatu liqimse.
54 He brought them to the border of his holy land, to this mountainous land that he had conquered for them.
Innis gara daarii biyya isaa qulqulluutti, gara biyya gaaraa kan harki isaa mirgaa fudhateetti isaan galche.
55 He drove out the heathen nations before them. He divided up the land for them to own. He settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.
Inni ormoota isaan duraa ariʼe; lafa jaraas dhaala godhee isaanii qoode; gosa Israaʼelis dunkaana isaanii keessa qubachiise.
56 But they provoked God Most High, rebelling against him. They did not follow what he had told them.
Isaan garuu Waaqa qoran; Waaqa Waan Hundaa Oliitti fincilan; ajaja isaas hin eegne.
57 Just like their forefathers they turned away from God and were unfaithful to him, as twisted as a defective bow.
Akkuma abbootii isaanii duubatti deebiʼan; amanamuus ni didan; akka iddaa micciiramaattis jajalʼatan.
58 They made him angry with their pagan high places of worship; they made him jealous with their idols.
Isaan iddoowwan sagadaa isaanii kanneen gaarran irraatiin isa aarsan; waaqota isaanii tolfamoodhaanis hinaaffaadhaaf isa kakaasan.
59 When God heard their worship he became furious and he totally rejected Israel.
Waaqnis yeroo isaan dhagaʼetti akka malee dheekkame; guutumaan guutuuttis Israaʼelin gate.
60 He abandoned his place at Shiloh, the Tabernacle where he lived among the people.
Innis iddoo jireenya isaa kan Shiiloo keessaa, dunkaana inni namoota gidduu dhaabbate sanas ni dhiise.
61 He surrendered the Ark of his power, allowing it to be captured; handing it over into enemy hands.
Humna isaa boojuutti, ulfina isaa immoo harka diinaatti dabarsee kenne.
62 He handed over his people to be slaughtered by the sword; he was furious with his chosen people.
Saba isaa dabarsee goraadeef kenne; handhuuraa isaattis akka malee dheekkame.
63 Their young men were destroyed by fire; their young women had no wedding songs.
Dargaggoota isaanii ibiddatu fixe; durboota isaaniitiifis sirbi heerumaa hin sirbamne;
64 Their priests were killed by the sword; their widows were unable to mourn.
luboonni isaanii goraadeedhaan dhuman; niitonni dhirsoonni irraa duʼan immoo booʼuu hin dandeenye.
65 Then the Lord woke up as if from sleep, as a warrior sobering up from drinking wine.
Gooftaanis akkuma waan hirribaa dammaquutti, akkuma goota sababii wayiniitiin iyyuuttis dammaqe.
66 He defeated his enemies, striking them on the back, causing them everlasting shame.
Inni diinota isaa rukutee duubatti deebise; qaanii bara baraa keessas isaan buuse.
67 He rejected the descendants of Joseph, and did not choose the tribe of Ephraim.
Dunkaanota Yoosef ni tuffate; gosa Efreemis hin filanne;
68 Instead he chose the tribe of Judah, and Mount Zion which he loves.
inni garuu gosa Yihuudaa, Tulluu Xiyoon kan jaallatu sana ni filate.
69 There he built his sanctuary, high like the heavens, on earth that he made to last forever.
Mana qulqullummaa isaa akka samii ol dheeraatti, akka lafa bara baraan hundeesseettis ijaare.
70 He chose his servant David, taking him from the sheep pens,
Inni Daawit garbicha isaa ni filate; dallaa hoolotaa keessaas isa waammate;
71 taking him from caring for the sheep and lambs to be a shepherd to the descendants of Jacob—God's special people, Israel.
akka inni saba isaa Yaaqoobin, handhuuraa isaa Israaʼelin tiksuuf jedhee hoolota tiksuu irraa isa fide.
72 Like a shepherd, he took care of them with sincere devotion, leading them with skillful hands.
Daawitis garaa qajeelaadhaan isaan tikse; ogummaa harka isaatiinis isaan dura buʼe.
